If you have money to buy a new one whithout selling Nexus S, keep it, it's a good phone, develpoment dosent seam to be stoping anytime soon. I could upgrade now if I sell mine but I prefere to wait and upgrade whithout selling it

what rom would you recommend? i like a rom that i can put a theme on. and one that's good on battery life. i would like a 4.3 rom but idk how stable those are. i was looking at the avatar rom. but it says "crespo". what does that mean. sorry i'm a noob lol

Crespo is the name codename of Nexus S, Avatar is cool for costumisation but not that god with performance, search for HellyBean roms or Slim Bean roms, they have the best balance between features and performance (Helly Bean has some glitches that the creator will fix in 1-2 weeks, depending on how long his vacation is)

i wanted to download slimbean but i'm confused on which to download lol i'll try hellybean.

Keep it. This is my 3rd Nexus S 4G. I just seem to cant get rid of it.

Keep it, if the hw is enough for your needs.
I installed this 4.3 ROM, very stable, have used it for 3-4 weeks now.
Have tried different 4.3 roms but all others have had problems with the camera and other stuff.
Try it:

It's old by phone standards, but it's a good audio player compared to much newer ones, and because of google's suport of it untill 4.1 the roms that have later versions of JellyBean still work preety smooth. If you have money then buy a new phone but the man that started this thread vas asking us if it's still a good phone and it is, now if you compare it to the note 2, nexus 4 and phones like this well then it's not case it's 2 generations behind them, but it's still the best single core out there

Keep it, I'm new to android phones and I just got this phone, Nexus S and I'm very satisfied with it. Though at first I've had a problem with the battery life, I've managed to come along to having a stable one which is fixed with installing the latest version of CM and voila, everything for me is smooth... not much of a bug I guess.
BTW, I have a CM 10.2 Nightly ROM.

I was thinking of upgrading to a Nexus 4 since my Nexus S was running real slow, but after discovering the Hellybean ROM, it has brought new life to my phone and I think I'll hang on to it for quite some time to come! Like an earlier poster mentioned, the latest 4.3 release needs some major fixing, but version 4.2 works great!

Depends on taste......CM7 i think has better performance, but Miui is the must have anyone that loves to customize there phone. it lets you change everything piece by piece but it has no app drawer unless you use a launcher to get it back otherwise all your apps will just be on the front pages.
there both great, but cm7 still has my vote on sheer smoothness and tweaks. but again i loved "ee"'s themes for Miui so who knows

It is very "iPhonish" when you first use MIUI; throw a lancher on it, though, and it's back to business as usual. Very slick, very smooth, very customizable (if that's a word). Oh, and it's based on CM 7.1 sources. I've tried all sorts of ROMs on my Inspire, but I always end up going back to MIUI, it's just too damn nice. Getting a SR soon, and I'd love to see a MIUI build for it.

I agree with this. Almost every aspect of MIUI is iPhone ripped. Throwing a launcher over top of it kind defeats the purpose of MIUI (IMHO).
I have used MIUI and it had horrible battery life, right up there with CM7. Personally I would never use MIUI or CM7 ever again (on one of my phones).
That being said
I have MIUI on my daughters phone because she loves the iPhone and since I am giving her my Captivate for Christmas and she really wants an iPhone, I decided to put MIUI on it to ease the pain. LOL
agreed,
women seem to love miui though......hence why i am trying to put it on my old cappy to give to my GF.
but am having issues with the drivers.
i dont mind CM7, with the right kernel the battery drain is not that bad......but yes it can get annoying to have plug your up to the wall every couple hours as a preemptive strike on your phone dying.

Considered selling your HOX for a Nexus 4?

Well, have you? I have. I know I can get at least $325 for it if not the full $350.
I feel like it's a bit of a downgrade but I'd like other opinions. (vanilla is looking pretty nice with JB so distant still)

Vanilla android. Which is a big difference over stock. I have a Nexus 7 and I love the UI.
More battery and more RAM.

Cm10 is pretty close to vanilla. If that's your only reason for switching then so be it. I have one reason why I won't switch. And once that is remedied I'm going to nexus permanently.

Not that performance is not already enough on the ONE X but doesn't the Nexus 4 have a quad core S4 and a significantly more powerful GPU. This makes it about twice as fast as the HOX already and it has a bigger battery and vanilla android and will get the newest Android OS'.
My biggest concern is storage size at 8GB or 16GB isn't much and it just doesn't look as nice as the white HOX.
The fact that it's made by LG turns me off. The HOX is awesome in its own right and I think Sense is great in terms of usability. HTC has come a very long way with refining Sense into what it is now (remember Sense 2.0 and 2.1? *shudder*).
I've had the Tegra 3 version of the HOX, sure the 'benchmarks' said it was better, but in actual usage, the dual-core S3 spanked it. On top of that, LTE! Only time I will ever get a Nexus device is if it is from HTC though.
I'm buying one, but I'm not selling my HOX.

I can recommend it. Been runny nightly builds for about 2 months now, never had any major problems (the occasional reboot or something) but everything works great.
I considered switching, but like the verge review pointed out, the lack of LTE is a hard thing to drop. Stock 4.2 would be really nice, but I bet it'll be available soon (either AOKP or CM10) and I'll just keep my superfast LTE.
No.
Please stop these alternate phone threads.

Me too. LG phones feel and look cheap. They've gotten better recently, but still not up to par with HTC or even Samsung. I'd be interested in a new Nexus phone, but not from LG.
Weren't they talking at one point about 4 or more Nexus devices coming out by years end?
now that i have had a chance to red some reviews i think im going to pass on this
but im going to stick with my HOX and see what comes out in the new year

Thought about it, but I couldn't live without LTE. HSPA+ in San Diego is a laughable joke. A lot of times I can't even stream music when I am driving.

No worries. ICS is no JB that's for sure, and truth be told ALL the awesome options available to the Blaze should be tried out! That's the great thing about having such options - you can start choosing based on preferences as opposed to basic functionality. I'm a smali hack at best - I would consider the other tinkerers for the Blaze to be far more qualified of a "developer" title than I really - so folks should really make sure to test the various waters as you never know what you might be missing!

Well single core to dual core, NFC, slightly larger screen, 4g 42mbps, larger capacity battery, and adreno 220 are things that I would consider better. At my dad's house near Minneapolis I can pull 20+mpbs on 4g...
But at the end of the day, you still are running android and that's not going to change much... and if you liked sense than you will likely not like TW. No guarantee that you also wouldn't like aosp either (my wife doesn't - she prefers sense). My wife has a sensation 4g and I see a major difference between her phone and my blaze. I prefer the blaze, because of those features listed (and access to the sd card without having to dissemble the phone to get to it) and I prefer TW (using TW5 launcher) to any sense rom. Sense just seems bloated to me and the Blaze just seems to be more responsive.
But hey, they're just phones and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can like whatever they choose to like

I've been really happy with mine as well. To be honest this is the longest I have ever owned a modern smartphone. My previous phones would last 6-8 months before I got bored.
As much as I want the One... I honestly wouldn't mind skipping a generation and hanging onto this until it dies.
With s off and development getting even better the one xl is pretty fun.
With my setup the battery life is very much improved! JB Sense roms rock.
I am thinking of changing the housing to the one x+ housing since mine is getting beat up. It's going to feel like a brand new phone

Yeah the all mighty Odin. Thanks to that program and kernels with injected cwm, flashing Roms was a blast. I probably will NEVER see an UNBRICKABLE MOD in future Samsung devices. IMO its the best phone in terms of hacking.
GPS was horrible on that phone, though. I couldn't get a lock that would stick for 6 seconds lol, whereas my One X didn't break a sweat. And I'm glad I took a chance with HTC. I was getting tired of the blue-ish white on s-amoled screen

also a huge odin fan!!
tons of one clicks, and non one clicks are fun
Although I wore out more then one back door from battery pulls on my captivate LOL
Lol yeah. My wife gps sucked too...it got so bad i had to use my iPhone 3gs at times lol

For a while I kept coming on to xda and checked out the cm10 thread but was so concerned about bricking and didn't have money to buy an unsubsidized phone, but when I finally decided to root, I got the vanilla-ish experience I really wanted and it has only gotten better with cm10.1 and roms like the one I'm on now, xylon.

Realistic, and yet crushingly depressing. Might be time to jump ship...

I'm on the same boat. The specs inside are making my thirsty 5" palms sweat. I'll be ordering white variant next week or week afterwards.

This isn't entirely true. Android KitKat was designed to use less power. It can technically be used on some of the oldest android devices.

I have to agree, we'll definitely see 4.4 on our device sometime in the near future. Probably not an official update from HTC, but in the form of aosp for sure.

You know as well as I do that official support for our phone is finished. We won't see 4.3, let alone 4.4. And with all the problems 4.3 roms are having, the wait for anything 4.4 will be even worse.

Because of the lower power usage we never know.
I agree it is probably over but we have some great developers here.

I don't doubt that we'll see 4.4 custom roms eventually. But it's going to take awhile. There's basically no chance of anymore support from HTC. They won't even give us 4.3.

i wish if we had some STABLE ROM for 4.3
forget sense AOSP would also do good!
:crying::crying::crying::angel:
as faar as 4.4 is concerned its optimized for Devices with lower memory (so it has to be fast) and there are a few observable changes in UI as well (no more stock HALO BLUE color) so i would really love to have it!

Just because CM is almost unusable recently it doesn't mean other ROMs are necessarily the same. Slimbean (4.3) is perfectly stable, in fact I've been using it for weeks and I haven't encountered any issues at all. I'd actually class the ROM as being almost perfect. The only reason it loses points in my mind is because it doesn't have a screenshot tile, other than that I can't fault it at all. I'm actually seriously surprised more people aren't using it, maybe they just aren't aware it's there.

i admit the fact even i was unaware of SLIMBEAN being 4.3.
in fact i was going to give Beanstalk a try cause its an OFFICIAL NIGHTLY and your signature also mentions it :good:
for the screenshot i believe there are aftermarket apps so that will be no issue for me!
secondly i had this thing in mind!?
does any AOSP rom have a battery saver option where the device goes to sleep!?
cause that really helps me!
I forgot my signature still said that, changed back to Slimbean now lol. As far as I know there's no battery saver tool built in to aosp, you can use an app like Tasker to cut data connections etc while the screen is off though.

Well couldn't help myself this morning, looks like I'll be shuffling over to the Nexus 5 forums soon! Thanks for the good times guys, HTC One XL has been a blast.
