So my fiance has had this phone for 2 years, she FINALLY let me root it. I have a SGH-T679, flashing for that is simple, i am able to get a custom recovery flashed via the stock recovery.... On this device it says to flash a custom kernel. to get a custom recovery. im having trouble with this on the stock rom. Everytime i have tried to flash a kernel, for instance basic with a twist, the phone will NOT reboot. idk if im missing something or what, if at all possible can someone help me out so i can get this done for her. like i said on my device flashing is extremely simple, on that all i have to do is wipe rom via cwm or twrp, flash rom and gapps (plus other goodies) and reboot. this phone you apparently cannot do this. Please help me out.
Also I should note I do have root on her device, and when I did try heimdall the device was stuck on boot animation. Left it there for 20 mins.

flashing on this is also extremely simple you just have to flash the custom kernel on stock GB with SGS kernel flasher then you have the CWM you know and love
Yes I am, so when I thought it was a boot freeze it wasn't it just takes forever to restart because of the config it has to go through. Thanks for all the help. Maybe I will try to tackle the ROMs for this device

i flashed over to beanstalk from stock GB with custom recovery <-----you can choose any other 4.2.2 but make sure its Aries build...they simply flash like normal then it reboots by itself back into newer CWM recovery then finishes the flash then you have to manually go into recovery after first boot to flash over the gapps....most roms in the Development threads have the how to install and the proper downloads
So I can flash a 4.2 over stock. I already know gapps and all that. Any wipes need done?

NO, NO, NO! It's one thing to do this, alot have, it's another to not read threads or research it.
NEVER flash CWM from an app, you HAVE TO flash via NVflash.

This is a must for the g2x. If you use from manager it only fake flashes clockwork mod recovery and makes you unable to flash roms.
Typical way to achieve root on the g2x is to.
1. Nvflash cwm
2. Create a nandroid backup.
3. Flash a rom that has root.
Don't bother with rom manager or super one click.

Just as a quick question. Does wiping the system, wipe ANY of my data? Like does it only wipe the existing ROM? Ive been confused of it since the first time i flashed a ROM

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and get back to you. I don't think it had to do with the wipe as I always ran a wipe script before installing. I thought it had to do with the kernel.... (don't have a clue though)
I'll flash the clockwork via nvflash, and get back to you, thanks.
EDIT:
IT WORKS. NVFlash the recovery, make sure to change the command if you have a different version you plan to flash/

you definitely want to do that. do you have a nandoid backup of your original system? if your phone breaks, that is the only way to revert it back to original for an exchange (unless ofcourse you take a hammer to it).

I think so. Catch is that I don't know if doing that will actually update anything, the whole problem is that ROM manager doesn't flash it properly/to the right place. The only thing to do is make a nandroid and try it out and if ti doesn't work, then reflash with NV flash and you're good.

Hey guys,
Finally got around to working on my phone. I have a question. I've been following this guide here to the letter. But I skipped step 1 as I thought rooting was only for 2.2 Froyo G2x owners as mine's already been updated to 2.3. Do I still need to root it to flash CWM while I'm logged into my phone??
Thanks in advance!!
If flashing cwm via nvflash doesn't work then you'll need to root first, it's been quite some time since I last did this, but I'm pretty sure all you need to do is flash cwm using nvflash and then install the rom of your choice

One last question. Can I install roms and kernels from rom manager, or do i do both from cwm?

I honestly never tried to install roms, or kernels, from rom manager, I think you need to buy the premium app to be able to do so. Either way, it's always safer to flash from cwm since you can wipe everything you need to from there (ie. cache, dalvik cache, system, and data) which is very important when flahing different roms, and kernels

Just to reiterate, on this particular phone it's not the best idea to flash with rom manager at all. Always go with cwm.

Super One Click has been updated with a new exploit that can root the G2X Gingerbread without flashing CWM Recovery. Get the new version of Super One Click and root it that way. Or flash CWM Recovery and then flash my root zip.

ICS for G2x is a work in progress. I believe CM team is working on it.
I used the CWM to install CNA b4.zip, the Codename Android package.
Now all my phone does is boot into a menu that says:
install wipe
backup restore
mount settings
advanced reboot
How do I get into ICS?

sounds like he lost root. You will probably need to use heimdall one click to get back to kj6. Use the one I packaged that can be found here.

Then flash to ICS and then to the rom you want.
I had this happen to me when I tried to flash CNA b4. No matter what I did I could not get out of recovery when trying to flash. I thought for sure I would have to go back to stock but I just fully wiped and reinstalled AOKP with no problems. It may have been a bad download or something but I had that issue as well.
When do I flash a mod in the flashing process? After the ROM, obviously... Do I need to boot the phone up at all before flashing a mod?
Thanks for the patience when you answer. I looked but didn't see my question asked before... I know it's a noob question.

Hmm, I always prefer to flash them separately. When I used to flash mods, I would flash the rom, boot to make sure it runs ok (aka no crazy force closes), then flash the mod. I'm sure that you can flash both at once but I rarely did on my last phone.

This right here. It honestly is hit or miss though. Sometimes I would have zero issues flashing the rom , kernel, and mod all at once back to back. Other times u would be in hell doing that. I have honestly noticed best performance flashing the ROM clean (complete wipe) the. Rebooting... once the ROM settles I go back to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik flash the kernel. Reboot and once that settles, I do the same thing as the kernel. Recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flash mod and fix permissions. Then boot and done. May seem redundant but it works best for me and I get zero issues
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I flash rom, kernel, restore data if wanted, flash mods, flash themes all at once with TWRP with no problems. Never have fixed permissions. If have to fix permissions you flashed something that UID didn't match. Usually happens when flashing over data.
I've only had problems when I flash ROM then MOD before booting up once.
Thanks so much!

Okay so i ran synergy rom for a bit, loved it and worked good.
I tried flashing CS SG3 ROM
I couldn't get it to boot all the way up, i tried everything odin back to stock and retried, wiping system , everything.
still couldn't get it to boot all the way up so i gave up and ended up going to GALAXY MOD It worked perfectly and i loved it.
But today I tried flashing release 15, it also will not boot up. But when going and flashing release 14.1 again it works perfectly.. does anyone know what my issue is or how to fix it? I'm so confused... do they have something similar that could possibly be the issue?
Galaxy mof has problems booting on its newest release if you want to flash rls15 be sure to use cwm touch recovery and pick developer's choice not custom
If you do choose custom be sure to put force gpu rendering.

The only thing I can think of is not wipeing?
You can always try a dirtyy flash between ROMs. But if it doesn't fully boot.
Try wiping cache and dalvik cache.
You can also fix permission just to be safe.
Also. Maybe make sure you are on latest CWM? or TWRP.
