[Q] Messed up my Samsung Google Nexus S while updating

i had android gingerbread on my phone and wanted the ICS . .
i downloaded the ICS update file , switched off my phone
then switched it on with (Power + vol. up) combination and chose install update from sd card
it installed and i chose 'reboot system now' .. . .but now it wont reboot and phone is like it doesnt have a battery
please help me !

it might have happened because i unplugged its USB from comp. while it was updating , not sure though

Try flashing a different rom, that's what I do when I get problems.

i managed to do exactly as above till step 12 , i lost it after that
how do i setup fastboot and get those images from ?
help out a noob please !

For fastboot, you basically need to follow the first part on this thread:

It basically setting your machine with the proper drivers for Nexus S and installing SDK tools so that you can use fastboot and install bootloader, boot and recovery.

Are you using a i9023? Are you sure you didn't update to ICS with it and just can't see it because the backlight bug in that release? If that is the case, it is possible you just didn't clear your cache before upgrading.

phone actin up since update really need help

hey peeps,im a noob in this whole Android thingin..always been a fan of ios till i got sick and tired of jailbreakin..
my problem is 2 days ago i updated to cm10 by Kang evry thing was fine whit the updating went smooth.
but, after it reboots i want to start an app and the phone freezes for a few seconds and reboots.
i tryed to get in fastboot or recovery mod but it wont work..pressing the buttons and all it does is vibrate and start the os.
cant see if debugin is turned on cuz it wont let me enter any app.
my pc wont recognize adb it tells me something bout adb server is old but i updated evrything thru sdk.
not even the ruu is detecting the phone no more.
been seasrchin now since 2 days to find a resolution.but couldnt maybe someone here got or had the same problem.
my pc detects it as massstorage adb interface and android phone ....im running windows7
all i want is to get back in fastboot or recovery or something just to bring my phone back to normal life.
if someone can help me whit adb its cool too...

To go to fastboot/bootloader
Power off your phone.. Then remove battery, reinsert it, and then press the volume down and power button together.. That will take you to bootloader
Then select recovery and enter it.. Restore your backup if you have one.. Or fresh install the ROM again.. Don't forget to do the complete wipe before flashing the rom... Not super wipe.. But wipe from recovery.. If using cwm - factory reset
If 4EXT recovery - wipe/format- format all partitions except sdcard

adb dont find device and always show something bout old server even though i updated sdk.
reinstalled all drivers tru htc sync ,pda net ,superoneclick ...
but it wont let me in the system of the device..

Ganeshp, Quick question, why not SuperWipe ? I've been away for a while and in the past SuperWipe was a MUST do between ROMs. I went from Stock 3.33 WWE to CM10 via a SuperWipe, it seemed to work fine. However, I have seen similar comments to yours since in so much as SuperWipe shouldn't be used. So I'm guessing there must be a reason.

superwipe doesnt have device checks ..its dangerours ..and its incompatible with AOSP ROMS ....lot of AOSP/CM9 roms say that superwipe is incompatible..besides superwipe is redundant ..recovery can very well take care of wiping

you cannot go to bootloader? @[email protected] first time im seeing this ..my wild guess is you are not removing the battery and reinserting it..which is quite crucial for the bootloader to pop up during the process...
as long as usb debugging is not checked ..adb wont work ..and your only option is to go to bootloader (how? -> ive explained you before)
and use fastboot commands

[i removed batterie put it back in pressing volume down + power and it just reboots in normal mode..no fastboot whit the 3 android skaters.
damn...like i said 2 days ago evrything was fine shouldnt have put this cm10 on it i guess...
now i got the phone sayin for the first time after awhile that its in usb mass storage...then it freezes and reboots again
im bout to throw this phone out of the window..

Still cant get anything to work...i really Need help i cant use warranty Cut Off cm10 that i got on the phone.pc dont recognize the phone only as mass storage.ruu cant Update gives me error Code 170 and like i Said thursday EVERY thing was Fine.

ok to tell u guys excatly what i did.
i downloaded cm10 from kang and flashed it via cwm evrything was fine.
then the phone rebooted normal.
i wanet to go to settings and set usb debugin on on,here is were the problem started.
soon as i press setings it freezes and reboots i tryed it over and over.
i cant get into fastboot,recovery,hboot,bootloader etc..
my phone is only listed as mass storage device on my pc running win7.
even got ubuntu on the pc duallboot mode and there its not at all recognized.
i want to know if my phone is bricked...since it still starts but it wont let me open any apps..whit out freezing and restarting again....
normaly the phone says that its in mass storage mode but not even that is showin up when connected to pc...
tryed to get in download mode but the wire trick is not working.
i would even take the phone to the shop but since cm10 is booting i dont got no warranty on the phone no more.
can somebody help me i really love ma phone and all its functions dnt want to buy me a new one...
and yeah power button volume button thing i did a couple hundred times now....
i even tryed to install stock ruu but it just shows me error 170....and yes i been up on google searchin...but noone really can help me whit this sh***
im really bout to slam this phone against the wall if there wqasnt so many documents and pictures on it...

Hi,so as the title above, after i reboot into recovery from the phone,my phone suddenly death..no power,pc recognize as hsusb qdown,canot boot into flashmode n fastboot mde.charging also useless because no LED.
After i left charging for 1 day,red LED start to glow but just for 15 second only then turn off.is there any chance i could get my SONY XPERIA L back to live????

before the problem exist,i use CARBON ROM including its kernel.i try to update the Cwm recovery to v6.0.4.8..yes,i manage to update,then when i reboot to recovery,sudenly my phone wont even ON.can u help???please

I guess you've flash another kernel...for now every cwm is v6.0.4.8..

[KERNEL][ROM] FXP Cyanogenmod 11 (SGP2xx)

Hi Guys,
i am happy to annouce that the Xperia Z2 Tablet, recieves Unoffical CM11 weekly built's by The Free Xperia Project-Team, available on there Site www.fxpblog.co
I don't take any Credits, i just thought about posting the good News for everyone to see.
Things needed:
Root
Unlocked Bootloader
Recovery
Flashing Procedure for CWM:
1. Reboot to Recovery or at Start up press Volume-Up (CWM) till the Recovery shows up.
2. back a complete Backup of your actual Rom (optional)
3. go to Mounts and storage.
4. format: cache, system, data.
5. go in advanced in the Menu and wipe "Dalvik Cache"
6. Install zip from sdcard (Internal Storage) or sdcard1 (MicroSD)
7. Choose the downloaded zip-file named like example: "FXP327-CM11-20140706-UNOFFICAL-castor" and make sure you have the right build for your device. (there is castor, for LTE version and castor_windy for the Wifi Version) and install it
8. I recommend to use the Paranoid Android Google apps package also know as "PA-Gapps"
9. Install the Latest PA-Gapps for Kitkat reapeat Step 7 just with the PA-Gapps.
10. Reboot to System.
You should now have everthing installed and working.
For any Problems with the Installation or the ROM itself, Qoute me and i will try to help you

Thanks for posting this. Really looking forward to CM11 on my Castor Windy. The file size for castor windy is about 100 megs smaller than the lte castor. Do we know why? Ill take the plunge and test shortly. Will report back.

I'd assume because the LTE version has to support LTE antenna and software and schtuff.

It is still at least 64MB smaller than the pollux windy ROM-
which should be similar in size.
I have had no luck booting the kernel boot.img contained in the
castor_windy ROM zip file on a sgp51x.

This is a Problem in the cm Device tree e.g System ui is missing or settings apk
I wrote a pm to alex1911 how to fix it
After He add this it will work (I have build the Rom by myself some days ago and i fix it there)

Well, I did exactly as advertised, but my device is now in a bootloop. No idea what's gone wrong.
Very curious what's gone wrong here. No idea right now.

Ah so the ROM as uploaded currently is broken, and that's why my device (see post above) is in a bootloop.
Well, I feel stupid now.

Yeah my SGP512 will only get into bootloop if I flash the castor_windy. I felt stupid before as if I was doing something wrong, but now I know it's not user error :highfive:

Weird though, since I can't even get back into cwm - nor can I end the bootloop with the power button (I time holding volume-down to get into fastboot and end the bootloop like that).
EDIT: In fact, "fastboot devices" lists nothing when I do that. So, the way I have to end the bootloop is to connect it to my PC via USB, press volume-down when the devices powers down, and then I hear the device connected sound from Windows. If I then do nothing, the bootloop continues after a while. If I issue "fastboot devices", I get nothing. Yanking out the USB cable shuts the device down.
So strange.

EXACT same thing happened to me. I had to hold down the little red button under the big top flap, then hold up volume while plugging into my pc. I couldn't get into recovery either without flashing a stock ftf and reinstalling recovery. Flashtool is a life saver.

So you pressed/held the red button while in the loop, then pressed/held volume-up while pluggin it in?
I'm downloading Flashtool right now, so that should be a decent starting point. What is the stock ftf (ROM I imagine?)?

You don't need to Flash complete ftf in flashtool exculde all except Kernel (you don't need wipe Data)than Flash the Kernel and Boot into fastboot and Flash doomloards stock kernel

I saw the bootloop as well.
I went back to doomlords rooted stock kernel with CWM.
Then reflashed one of my earlier stock ROM backups.
Out of habit one of the first things I do with new HW
is to take a few full backups from the recovery after
the device is rooted and has a custom recovery.
The unusual thing with the Sony devices is that the recovery
shares the kernel image - so you have to pay attention
to both the kernel version and the ROM version.

So how did you get back into CWM? I can't seem to get back into CWM at all.

Make sure to hold the tiny red button at least until it buzzes 3 times. Make sure you're not plugged in while doing this. This basically just turns the tablet off. Then I hold up volume while plugging in to my computer. Just look around on the forums/google for any SGP511 or SGP512 ftf file.

I couldn't either. I had to hard power-off with tiny red button under the bigger top flap. Then hold up volume while plugging into my computer, then flash new ftf in flashtool, then re-install CWM.

Alright, thanks a million. I couldn't find a ftf specifically for the SGP512, but according to this comment a specific SGP511 ftf will work as well.
I'm guessing Flashtool is pretty self-explanatory (it looks pretty straightforward), but if not, I'll be back .

Well, I must have done something wrong.
So, I got Flashtool to recognise the device exactly as you said. However, Flashtool didn't have an option for showing/opening ftf files, so I disconnected the device. I then Googled the exact procedure (and felt like an idiot), found it, and wanted to reconnect the device.
No luck. All I get now is a blue light when I press volume-up and connect it via USB. Flashtool recognises nothing. I also turned it back on into the bootloop, pressed the red button, and tried again - no luck. Any ideas?

Guys,my phone gets a problem,a massive problem,so when i press power button it just show a green led light,when i hod it same result a green light shows and disappear and again shows,it have 46 percent battery when this happend but i plug it to charger result like i hold power button,cant enter recovery same like i press power button,fastboot mode is gone when i hod volup and plug to pc it goes on flash mode,flash mode is now have two buttons volup works and vol down works too.i am try to install .75 fromware with newflasher,its installed but my phone still bricked,i install .34 too and it dosent unbrick my phone too.
Please help me because i cant find a way to fix it,oh and i try yo use sony companion but it dosent install on my pc.

this has happened to me last night i have 22 percnt battery charge my phone, i have turn off my phone because i want to enter again recovery because im doing some installing zip, when i press power then vol down, it was off so i was thinking it was booting into recovery but it wasnt turning on pressing power nothing going recovry nothing, i panic i get my original sony charger then plug it in, after a while it turn on with a battery indicator, i charge it about 60% then tried turning on the device, and magic it turned back to life, i wasnt sure what was happening but next time when ur going to recovery make sure phone is turned off then go from there dont go, turn off while its turning off press power + vol down please dont do this

2 hour on charging but nothing.

Im haved carbon rom ,then im going to recovery flash turbo rom flash magisk reboot device(after im go to rom change log i found that root deleted on that version i installed),so boot animation shows up but device turn off i again press power bottun again boot animation shows up and device turn off do that again and same result.so after 3 time im try to going to recovery mode but i found that my phone is bricked.

Oh I see did you have. Clean installation? I mean did u wipe everything before flashing turbo latest tomorrow? Because it needs to have a clean flash Coz of a high sec update and no dirty flashing as posted to his thread,

Im never do a dirty flash always clean flash.
Hope some buddy know how i must fix my phone

I recently fixed a bricked XZP with Flashtool, get the latest stock firmware from Xperifirm if you dont have on hand an older hackable firmware from XperiFIX
in Xperifirm setting, set it to extract firmware automatically once downloaded to speed things up,
In flashtool/Tools/bundles/Create, select source folder (your downloaded extracted firmware)
in device "double click" & select your phone model from the list.
branding: add as your download example, custom_uk
version: firmware version copy & paste from download
copy all files from file list to firmware content & click create
this will build a .ftf flash tools file which can then be flashed to your bricked device
just follow the prompts in flashtool....
worked for me,

I already haved 3 ftf file i instaled all of them with flashtool nothing change i still have a bricked phone.its look like im so unluckyor others dont experince my problem.
Im hating sony now i never will buy a phone and im gonna tell every body to do not buy a sony phone.im using y3 now and if my phone dosent fix thats gonna be my phone unitl it die.

Guys really no way for me? Im realy upset to why i dont bought a lg phone .because lg has a tool wich i relive my dead g3 with that why sony dosent have a tool like that?

Hey guys I mentioned some thing when i flash rom with flash tool it in somewhere of flash log its said battery stats not found,i domt know it same for others or not can somebody test it and give me result.
Please if someone of you know a proffesional sony developer please give me his id to talk with him.

How give me a deep solution.
Edit flshimg normaly firmware dosent fixy problem.i dont know what the hell going on my phone it just have flashmode no more and when try any other thing just notification led turn green and off.

Ofcourse i have and flashed .34 amd .75 frimwares with both neflasher and flashtool but none of them fix my problem.is it something that dosent change when we flash stock frimwares.

Lol. Sony phones are really hard to brick. You really can't brick a Sony phone even if you intentionally wanted to. I've even had a failed flash (phone disconnected while flashing) and was still able to flash using flashtool.
Anyways, I know this has been said before, but what happens after you flash using flashtool? Did you check all the boxes for a full wipe?
BTW, bad mouthing a phone just because you can't solve your problem won't help you.
