hello to all guys,
as the title I'm looking for an app that can save my initial position and after that to be able to get me back to the starting point. everything only with gps WITHOUT internet connection.
I seek offline because for example my father goes to mushroom in the woods and it often happens that there is no internet connection.
thanks to all
Try locus

That's partially true: I've just come back from a trip to Oslo where I used all the time Locus Free with offline maps of oslo donwloaded and an imported KML map with points of interest. Worked like a charm!
The only thing you have to do is download maps of the areas you need before using it.
Or u can try navfree from play store work quite good

I'm using both Papago and Sygic.
Papago is more accurate but consume more power. Sygic is less accurate and less power usage.

what are the best GPS apps for the android OS? not social networking location based apps but those that deal more so with logistics, tracking, mapping, driving directions, etc.
You may want to add details about what you want to do with the app.
Do you need offline (cached) maps?
Is finding a POI (store, restaurant, hospital) important?
Spoken turn-by-turn directions?
Will you be using the app for remote locations with few or no roads (hiking, etc.)?
Do you want to be able to save tracking data?

i'm looking for the most downloaded apps for pretty much all of what is listed above, but specifically i'm looking for tracking apps that would allow someone to track speed, location, time, direction, all the real life meta data related to something like a car or truck moving down a road or highway. i'm trying to gather market research and the project i am working on doesn't really employ POI as a main selling point.
Have a look at oruxmaps for android... DAM fine in my opinion... Use it for both work and pleasure and fits ALL my outdoor needs....

is there anyway to search the android market place from a computer or do i need to do it from an android phone? http://www.android.com/ does not have a search query or i just can't find it...
also, any reviews for these websites with regards to searching for apps and the information contained on them? http://www.androlib.com and http://www.andbot.com/

sheeeit the first thing i did was google it. got the info, needed more. will continue to research.
any other leads?
try Navigon (Navteq maps)
Anyone know of any free software that allows you to enter a destination gps coordinates. The software will then give the direction to that point and distance and log the gps points along the route taken (like a cookie crumb trail). I don't need it to be overlaid on a map but better if it was. I was thinking something like a hiking app would be ideal but I need this to work anywhere in the world without a data connection (therefore no maps or maps stored on the phone).
Hoping to use it when I go on holiday abroad. I would configure all the points of interest from home before I leave and use the software to get to my destination whether I travel by taxi or by other means.
My searching in the market has been unsuccessful so far.

With out data its pretty hard to find.I'm using my track but this one needs data connection. Good luck
Update : try wisepilot (save maps on sdcard)

Can't check at the moment, but Ulysse Gizmo may help. It's more a GPS/Compass app, but you can add way points via a map. Possibly you could add way points at home with a connection, then just use the compass offline for navigation to the points?
As I said I can't check, wife's gone out with my phone. Might be worth a look though.
So destination by coordinate and offline maps..
Hm..

Exactly. Once coordinates have been added. There shouldn't be any need to have a data connection as it will only use gps and compass to navigate to those coordinates. Perfect for when abroad as roaming data charger are a rip off.

google maps 5 can cache data, so you just cache the places you want to go, then you're good. you can also add your own waypoints right?
I'm not sure someone already posted about this app in the X10 topics. I've just found out from other forum.
Navit free offline navigation app which is not really user friendly but working great on my X10i.
Totally free!!! ;-)

Google map is great I used to use it. However you still need to use data connection for first initial route. It's ok when you are in metro area but when you are hiking or no data connection area you can't use it unless you have a big network coverage and huge data limit roaming.
With Navit offline navigation you don't need to use data connection at all. That's the only one different thing.
Cheers!!!

Maps allows you to download regions for offline use.
You can't use turn by turn navigation with that Google offline map. Hopefully we can use it later.
If Google offline map can use turn by turn navigation would be great.

Well, at least G-Maps is available for the whole world, not just specific part of the map !
Hello, i have been searching for a accurate tracker so my family can know where we all are all the time. I needed it to not only run on GPS but Wifi and 4g as well to give a general location. I need it to have adjustable update control as well. I tried Google latitude but it never updates and i tried life360 and it is very inaccurate on location tracking even with GPS on.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Take a look at anti-theft apps. I use Cerberus (Play store, Developer website) on my phone, for anti-theft purposes. You can log on to their site to track & view location on a map. It seems accurate, & pulls location data quite quickly, so I suspect it does use wifi in addition to GPS.
Thanks friend, im looking for something that would show my whole family on the map on my phone. Any thoughts!

Maybe go enterprise? Here's one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=p46.GPSTracking.Android
I have been using this software since January 2013
However, I am posting this now because they have recently updated their software...
Its way, way better than it was before... its a must try
Its a completely Free GPS software that allows you to navigate offline maps
including turn by turn directions for any map in the world... for real...
you just download the map you want to your device and your done!
this means you don't use any data at all while navigating
this goes for walking, bicycling or driving etc...
This is a must-have even if you have an unlimited data plan
for when you make long trips or travel abroad...
It's Called Navmii Navfree... it's available at the play store
You can choose from 2 Different Versions:
1- Navfree USA (For USA, Canada and Mexico)
or
2- Navfree World (For the rest of the world!)
I hope you all enjoy this software as much as I do... Cheers M8s

I am sorry I
thought they had all world maps in Navfree World
hi, thanks for share..
can we add map to this gps?
It's not fully offline. Only UK users can do offline address search, otherwise you need internet connection. Decent for users with data connection though

I really appreciate your input m8
I am in Toronto Canada
been using it since january 2013...
and I did not have data on my plan till last month...
I was able to navigate offline just by browsing the offline map and tapping a spot
and clicking route here... and it worked amazing completely offline...
but you are correct it won't do an address number search without data
cheers m8
