First try different headphones with different amount of pins/connectors or length of the connector just to make sure that all the pins are connecting like they should.
I had a similar problem with my tablet and I found out that not all headphone jacks are identical but differ in length etc and some didn't work that well with the tablet cos they never went deep enough to the headphone socket.
To adjust the headphone volume check out MobileUncle Tools engineer mode options.

[Q] Increasing Bluetooth Volume on Nexus 5

Hi,
I have a rooted Nexus 5 that I use for music with bluetooth headphones. I've applied the headphone volume boost from XDA which has worked a treat for wired headphones, but I'm wondering whether it is possible to do a similar volume boost of the bluetooth audio output. Any ideas?
Thanks!

+1 I'm looking for the same thing. The max volume on Bluetooth speaker is always 10% softer than if you plug a wire into the aux input without Bluetooth. I wonder if there is a way to boost the volume so that it matches the volume attained from a direct aux wire.

I would try to see if there may be a Xposed module that may help or if you can use a compatible kernel with volume boost. Viper Audio may also help since raising the settings within equalizer to boost vocals/bass/etc if you'd like to try as well.

I suffer from hearing loss (too many Metallica and Korn concerts back in the day) - because of this so-called handicap, I'm interested if there are any solutions or even alternative, suggested wireless earbuds that would accommodate my needs.
The earbuds I currently have are Plantronics Backbeat Go 2 - excessively low volume.

There is nothing that can be done. The volume for Bluetooth is not controlled via kernel as other sounds are. The limitation is hardware unfortunately.
I too have plantronics back beat go and they are very low. Other BT buds may be a little louder but don't expect miracles.
The only thing you can do is go wired. Sorry to break this to you.

[Q] What do I need to edit to increase AUX volume?

Ok, so I did have a big explanation on this, but my university wifi of course decided to disconnect as soon as I hit the submit button and I lost everything. Anyway, I know you can edit the mixer_paths.xml file to increase headphones volume. On the G3 you could also increase AUX volume. I don't see that option in the Nexus 5's mixer_paths files. I'm wondering if it's called something else and I'm just missing it. Any other methods to increase AUX volume are also appreciated. Thanks!
What are you calling auxiliary volume?

Auxillary volume is the volume in something like a car with an AUX setting (which is what I have). It should have very little or no relation with the volume out of headphones. At one point on my G3 I had the headphones volume incredibly loud while the AUX volume was relatively low. After editing the file and increasing the AUX volume, it became louder. I don't see something like that in the Nexus 5's mixer_paths.xml, so I assumed it either doesn't exist or it's called something else.

Thanks for clarifying. I don't understand how the G3 did this as its all from one socket. Anyway as far as I know, its just one volume on this phone (and every phone I personally have had). I use the 3.5mm jack a lot so I think you're good.

Yes, it's definitely just one socket, but the G3 could tell whether or not it was headphones or an AUX cable and adjusted its volume according to that. I'm not sure if the Nexus 5 does that, but my current volume isn't too too bad. I'd prefer it slightly louder, but it's not a big deal.

I generally think the headphone volume is pretty low on this device. If you're rooted I can highly recommend viper4android. We have a thread with flashable zips in the n5 themes and apks section

It's definitely very low. I have increased it and installed Viper and it's a good deal better. I rarely need to turn it all the way up.

X2 Headphone Socket

Has anybody noticed that a standard headphone plug does not fit all the way into their headphone socket?
I have tried several headphones and none go all the way in. I have never experienced this on a phone before.
I use Beats Solo and from my Lg G Pro2 Headphones, all works without a Problem.
in my x2 all headphone jack fits well. there must be some problem in ur set or u can try pushing slightly harder.

I pushed a little harder and was delighted to hear the "click" when the jack went all the way in.
Thanks

Headphone jack not working.

Hello everybody!
First I would like to apologize for my bad English, I hope you understand me anyway.
My headphone jack does not work anymore. I do not think that it is a defect, or that there is dirt in it.
My BLN-21 is gerootet, is it possible that I have deleted an app which is responsible for recognized whether the headphones is connected?
I reset the device to factory, but it did not help.
Thanks in advance!

Just bought a Honor 6X (or Huawei GR5 2017 as it's called here in Asia), and found that the headphone jack didn't work at all when connecting certain headphones, and even when connecting a pair of otherwise working headphones through a Y splitter.
Installing SoundAbout and selecting "Headphones" for media audio did the trick...

I have a friend who owns a 6X and he never needed to do anything for the jack to work. Just plug and play.

How to increase subwoofer level only?

Hi guys,
I want to raise the volume level only for my subwoofer, but increasing the sub level in the equalizer results in a higher level for all speakers which sounds terrible.
I have the standard MTCD head unit and connected my active subwoofer to the corresponding ports. I also tried Malaysk ROM and updated MCU, but it remains the same.
Hopefully somebody can help

In amplifier app. All the way to the right.
I've found the sub level setting on the amplifier app panel does nothing for me. I change the settings on the amp unit itself. I did use the sub-out on the unit as using any other line-out from the unit resulted in poor audio.

ok, use the gain knob on the amp which drives the subwoofer impractical, but works...

This is exactly my problem and the reason why I'm asking here.
Chaning the level in Equalizer App simply doesn't change anything.

I know this won't be too helpful but I have no issues with this function on my PX5 unit, I installed a small sub the other day and I'm able to fully control the level using the far right slider on the EQ.
What might be of assistance is when I was installing the unit into my car, all of the break-out wires that plug into the back of the unit that give you your USB, Phono-in/Phono-out, SUB etc..... there are a couple of these that can be mixed up and potentially plugged into the wrong port.
I know, I did it......
I might be way off the mark but it's worth a look.

yeah u're right, but still...if the volume for all speakers change when moving only the sub slider, then there's something fishy there with the unit.
never heard of this effect, it either worked on the sub only or not.

Or probably the subwoofer is not plugged in to the right cable.

If the rear breakout connectors are plugged into the wrong port, we have no idea what effect that might have. It could be nothing, or it could be bridging something that sends a funky signal back into the unit.
It's worth eliminating this as a potential issue so that you can troubleshoot further.
Ok first. It should not be a problem if u change the settig for all speakers becouse.... Ur ampfiler has a high pass filter and low passt filter... So if u set more power on low it shold just come to the subwoofer if ur amp is setting right with the filter... The had unit send the low to all speakers but ur amp should just pass this to the subwoofer.
U need check.
1. Did u use chich connectors or just normal kabels
Booth are possible
2. Have ur amp right configuration with high pass low pass filter...
3. Is ur subwoofer right connected to the amp???
U can connect the sub to front or back chinch the sound is everytime the best if ur filter in the amp right configuration.... It dossent metter which port on head unit the signal comes from...
Maybe doing @7floor's sound mod would help ? It will certainly improve the sound quality.

You need a HU that is able to set the crossover. It's on the hardware level. You need another HU or ROM.
