[Q] Phone turning off (unroot branded phone) [Solved] - HTC One SV

I have my HTC Ones SV rooted, with TWRP Recory. Yesterday my phone turned off few times when I was using Mobile Data. Today I can't turn wifi on and when I try to turn Mobile Data on phone turns off. I was using Saturn III Rom, but with Stock (T-Mobile.pl branded) it's the same story.
Any advice? And btw, how can I unroot my branded software and lock bootloader for warranty?

Strange. Is the sdcard broken at all or only for the phone? Wierd, indeed.

I formated SD Card and it works on PC and phone (no data has been lost). Still have some issues with phone, freezes on boot screen after restart :/
Seem like the problem is back (even without SC Card). Also I don't have wifi now (tries to turn on, but doesn't work).

I have similar problems, same ROM, but to me it looks like a SOD (screen of death) because i have to reinsert battery to power it on again... i believe it might be a side effect of internal memory/sdcard swap... usually happens to me when i take a picture and dropbox wants to sync/upload it. If my screen stays on, everything is ok, but when it goes off it's off
old.splatterhand, is it possible that it's related to sdcard swap, or am i jumping to conclusion ? Reason behind my conlusion is an odd behavior of some apps (some freeze, some crash), seems like that they prefer phone's internal memory.
Is there an easy and painless way to change back to default internal/sdcard arrangement ?

I don't know if this could be the reason. Some SOD's with dropbox picture upload i had too, but on stock rom, without swapped storage. Thought it came from intensiv testing i always do. Didn't think, someone else has this too. But its long ago, as it happened the last time. There were some updates in dropbox since last time it happened to me, maybe its related that the SOD's are gone for me.
But yes, there is an easy way to swap back storage to default, then you can try it, if problem is still there.
Go to this thread, download htc_one_sv_fstab_orig_JB.zip and flash in recovery:

Yep, i gave up that idea... Too many apps are already stored on sdcard, so it would take me too much time to move them around, especially because internal memory cant store more than 1/3 of them...
I believe that my problems lie in S4 Camera app and not in internal memory switch or dropbox... That saddens me, because S4 Camera app produced much better pics than the stock Sense camera
I dont know why and how those freezes happen, but it happens after taking the picture, when screen turns off. When phone freezes, picture (file) gets corrupted and unreadable.
I also remember one time happening when gallery (S4) remained opened and phone screen turned off.
While i had dropbox auto-sync enabled it happened more often, but turning it off didnt make the problem to go away, rather it made it happen slightly more rarely.
ps. sorry to OP since it seems i went little bit offtopic :S

Hmm, thats odd. But i have no idea to help you atm.

Captivate Plauged by Media Scanner Problem?

Hi Guys,
I've had the Att Galaxy S Captivate phone since December and it's been both a dream and nightmare. The phone is phenomenal when it's working but I've been having issues with them from the first phone.
Basically I've been through 4 yes 4 Captivates with the same issue. Let me first just say that I've kept them in pristine condition! The stupid things still have the original plastic on them! Either the phone is in my pocket or sitting on a table charging! None of them have ever seen the ground nor moisture of any kind including sweat!
The problem is basically this:
I'll be on a phone call or using the browser, then the phone will softly vibrate like I've provided a user input, the little bar will say External SD card removed. After that the screen will black out with the 4 soft keys still staying lit. Then the phone comes back up to it's lock screen and says Media Scanner running and it's an endless cycle after that.
Basically it's resetting but without the Galaxy S logo or the ATT logo in an endless cycle.
I read somewhere on
I don't have an SD card inserted nor do I have any suspicious applications. Hell the only things I have are Facebook, GasBuddy and Email synced.
I've done numerous hard resets, gotten a new sim card and 4 phones! Has anyone else had anything like this?
I take it your running the stock ROM?
In which case you have two options:
Get a new phone, or install a custom ROM.
Mikey's pretty much spot on with this one. Try a custom rom if you are stock. If not, go back to stock. Eliminate software as the cause first. If.it persists, new phone time.
Sent from my Oops it just shutdown again.
try removing your apps and see if it goes away, if it does put your apps back one at a time wait a few days to see if the problem returns between adding your apps if you get the problem without apps, do you have an external sd card if so, remove it and see if the problem returns, if it does, get a new phone.
csmeance,
Please reply if, and when, you solve the problem. I had virtually the same thing happen twice within 20 minutes, removed the battery and rebooted and haven't had it happen again.

I have the stock rom on the phone, no alterations what so ever! The only thing I've done in common on all 4 phones is sync my email and facebook.

I've only used factory software on the phone and done numerous hard resets with tech support, and in one instance is made the problem happen right after it turned on without any sort of reason!

Like I said, I have the factory ATT apps and then an updated facebook one. As well I have that gas buddy app which I got with my 3rd phone since a friend suggested I use it to save some money!
NO external SD card used at all, hell I haven't even plugged it into the computer for anything!

I've done that a few times with my first 1st and it would help for a day or two and reoccur over and over.
Multiple phones with a problem regarding external SD card makes me think something is wrong with your SD card, try formatting or a different card.

But I'm not putting in an SD card! Only thing that goes into the new phone is the battery and SIM chip!
Maybe it's referring to the internal SD card
Got a new phone from ATT so I'll wait and see what happens with this one...
are you using the stock samsung wall charger? Using chargers that provide less than 1000mA current make the phone think it's being used by a computer as a USB device. When the phone is removed from the charger, it then rescans the SD cards,etc...
Download RescanMedia, disable media scanning until you need to use it. FYI, you must have USB debugging enabled to use RescanMedia.
Maybe that will help you.
Umm well.. u're saying that u're syncing the Email on all 4..
If u're syncing to Exchange, maybe it propagates some kind of a "bad" certificate on your phone making it do silly things?
This has happened with 4 phones? Why don't you insert an sd card and see if that does it? Or go to settings and mount/unmount sd card?
Four phones with the same fault is highly suspicious. Focus on the things that are common to all phones. I would start with the sim

I already have gotten 2 new sim cards and am going to get another one today. I got the 5th one a few days ago and put the 2.2 update from Samsung and Att on it. Today the same thing is happening. I'm going to make a video of it and send it to att and samsung. This is getting ridiculous...
I'm using the stock charger and the ATT stuff only. I've noticed though with the 2.2 update, the phone will vibrate twice quickly, then once, then freeze and shut off and restart. With 2.1 on all the other phones, it would just restart without any sort of vibrate/tone.
Also this is with it off the charger and on the charger. It doesn't matter at all.
Just as an aftertought, the only thing that I have done in common is talked on the phone while it's been on the charger. When I do this the phone gets VERY hot and I end up using the speaker phone function. Is it normal to do this on the capitvate? I know my old Tilt 2 used to do the same.
Update: Called up ATT and they said to get another new sim, they think it might have been corrupted somehow with the captivate update. I'm going to grab a new one!
When they send you a new phone, do you get a new battery too? You said it gets really hot, maybe there's something wrong with that.

Sleep of death (SOD)

I've had about a half a dozen mytouch 4gs that will get stuck in sleep mode. What I mean is I turn the screen off and put it in my pocket, and next time I try to turn it on its unresponsive. Power button doesn't work and no lights on buttons or led. I have to remove the battery to get it to turn on. This doesn't happen all the time, but about 3 to 6 times a day.
Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this?
Stock ROM? I have noticed the exact same issue on some Z ROMs.
Yeah stock rom on all of them. I just loaded virtuous fusion 1.0.6 on this one to see if it was a problem with the stock rom and it turned off 3 times yesterday.
I upped the cpu frequency when the screen is off to 386 as I've heard elsewhere that it helped someone with a different phone but same problem. We'll see.
Someone else said to switch to wcdma only and another said to flash the newest radio. I'll try those next if this doesn't work.
Go into spare parts, change your animations to fast. Also turn off any screen on/screen animations. I was having the same issue, but now I am on RoyalGinger 2.1 (amazing ROM) and I have not had the issue for about a week now.

Didn't work. It just froze up on me again. Guess I'll try wcdma only.
Well switching to wcdma only didn't work either. I'm thinking about flashing a new radio as this seems to happen when driving from place to place.
Does it have anything to do with SD card? I read at some places since the system accesses SD I/O.

I've tried tried multiple sd cards.
New radio didn't work. Did it to me twice in 30 minutes. Should I try a different one? I dont want to flash too much as I have the M4G2DE serial. Maybe I should just keep returning phones until they send me a good one.

Try another rom although it sounds like an app. Can't be the phone on that many of them. You only one reporting this problem so has to be something you are putting on phone.

both phones are doing this on stock. no apps installed
My friend had 8 replacements through verizon before he got a good one. So try a couple more times maybe. I know it is really inconvenient but honestly the GS3 is the best Android on Verizon right now (arguably atleast) and they probably won't let you trade up to a Razr HD Maxx which is the only one I would recommend.
I'm having the same problem apparently. I just bought this phone used and activated it monday night. That night, i plugged the phone into the charger while i slept and the phone shut off overnight. Phone wouldnt turn on with the power button - required a battery pull to restart.
Going through tuesday, the phone worked fine. However, in the evening, the phone was idle for a few hours, and when I went to check it before going to bed I found it had powered off again! Required another battery pull to restart...plugged it into the charger, and went to sleep. When I woke up, I again found (for the third time) that the phone had powered down, and required another battery pull to restart.
Going into wednesday, phone is working fine. Then I leave it idle in the afternoon for a few hours during work, and when I get ready to drive home, I find it is again powered down, requiring a battery pull to restart (fourth time in less than 2 days).
Now I go to visit verizon, and the rep tells me (after I think he was looking through some company forums for answers) that I should try clearing the cache from every app, since maybe the data was corrupted during my OTA update to JB (which i installed monday night), and some app was causing this problem. So I do that, and the same thing happens again overnight...battery pull etc...
I'm figuring next I'm going to do a factory data reset, possibly tonight. This is supposed to be my sister's christmas gift! Hah...trying to work the bugs out before tuesday. Any thoughts?
Starting a post with I'm not crazy sound like something a crazy person would say.... just saying.... But I agree with the earlier post that it could be app or rom based and only effecting the screen. These are the options I see you having:
1. Try freezing any apps you've installed one at a time and see if it stops
2. Make nandriod and try another rom and then come back if that doesnt fix it
3. Try this thread to clear everything and upgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
-This method formats internal and external sd card AND bumps you up to rooted JB in the process. Use VRBLK3.
4. Get a replacement phone

These options might work for the OP, but only #4 could work for me since i'm not rooting this phone (its for my sister). If I find a fix for my issue, i'll post here.
Are you guys using an sd card? If so it might be a corrupt file that the system goes over and gets stuck on, messing the cell up. Did you try making a backup on pc, formating your card (fat32) and putting you stuff back on it? Or take the card out and see if you get the same problem without it. If you're going thru all the replacements then its gotta be something that you use in common with all of em. GL!

[Q] Phone auto factory reset?

Phone was on stamina mode for the rest of the night, using the picture button to take quick snaps and put it back in my pocket. Next thing I knew, my phone reset and asked me to choose a language.. it ended up wiping all data, pics, etc. and the SD-Card completely formatted as well.
Unfortunately didn't back up all of my pictures... but will be more conscious about backing up data next time.
My question is, although it's not Xperia Z3 specific, what could've caused the auto-factory reset to occur? Corrupted SD card? Corrupted files?
Never heard this happen. Are you sure someone/you did not use device manager from a computer to remote erase accidentally?
Yes, checked the activity and no phone wipes were recorded.

Must have somehow gotten to the factory reset menu on the phone by accident. Did you lock it before putting in pants?
Definitely
I was abusing that physical camera button on the phone a lot, I'm thinking it would be crapped out because of that. There is definitely a bit of lag when you use it, especially when you have a lock screen enabled.

Lag might be due to triple tap to zoom, some Z3s camewith it enabled by default, mine was off.

Hi,
I've had the same problem with my Z3. Had it a couple 1-2 week after rls and auto factory reset happend every 3-4 day. Damn annoying . I've been using my old S4 while it is at some repair thing. Got it back now and they say it's nothing wrong with it.
Anyone know why this happends?

Same thing happened to me as well. Whats worse is i had auto pic backup running but considering i had been on a cruise it disnt back anything up. Doubly worse my sdcard was encrypted so i dont think there is a way to recover. If anyone has an idea how to recover lwt me know. I have lots of kid pictures i want back!
BTW mine happened coming out of ultra power saving mode.

[Q] a very serious problem i think (can't even recovery)

hi guys, i already searched for a thread of someone with the same issue, but i haven't found anything on the whole internet (maybe it's just because i'm nervous as sh*t)... please let me know if i did wrong
the problem is: yesterday i was using regularly my Nexus 5, but suddenly i wasn't able to turn it on again. Just like a second before i was using it, and then it won't wake up. Now it is still turned off, i can't wake it up in any way, i tried every combination of keys, i tried holding on the power button for more than a minute, i tried pushing it hard, i tried everything. The only thing i'm able to do is plugging it on the charger, then it goes on a bootloop with the word "google" and a small vibration (just as it's like to turn it on) and then after a second the screen becomes black again, and this happens continuously untill i unplug it (i tried even for 2 hours and it still do like that). It is just like it wants to wake up, but then it is turned off, and on, and off, and on...
when he does like that i tried holding the vol down button just to try to enter the recovery mode, but even when i achieve to enter it, it still turn off so i can't decide what to do. Every guide i read on the web tells me to backup, then to erase all data, or something similar... but the problem is that i can't even access recovery mode, so that i'm not able to do anything if the phone is turned off completely.
i already called for the warranty, i have a completely stock phone so it's not a problem and i think they will change my phone, but i'm really worried this will erase all the data i have in my sd, and i would like to know if there's a way to copy what's inside the memory of the phone without turning it on
sorry guys but i'm really depressed, i've bought the phone on january... not even a year and i've wasted 350€
So, first question have you tried plugging into a computer? You may be able to pull some files off.
Second, was any of your stuff backed up using cloud storage, such as google drive? If not... You have my sympathy.
What app(s) were you running when it "Died"?[Edit: Died]
So you are completely stock, no root, no custom recovery, no nothing?

1) yes i tried: it does the same as if i plug it into the charger (google and vibration for a second, then turned off again, repeatedly). I can't access the data from my pc with the way i was used before (i could copy data only if the phone was on)
2) i use dropbox, google drive, and others, but not with the syncronization (i decided when and what to upload) so there's a lot of things that now aren't accessible and i'm scared i'll lose
3) well i wasn't using anything when it died... i think the cronometer was running, maybe whatsapp... recently i downloaded ePSXe for android with a couple of ROMs, but for a whole week or two i never had problems using it
4) yes completely stock, the only thing i did was abiliting the developer options (but a looong time ago, and i never changed them, i was only curious). With my old smartphone i used to play a lot with custom roms, but now i wanted to keep my nexus clean at least until the end of the warrancy
news from the google service: they told me some procedures to do, any of them work. They told me that their warrancy works like that: first they will send me another nexus 5 (not new, only a refurbished one) for the price of a new phone, then i have to send them my old phone. When it arrives, they will refurbish it, and they will give me back my 350€.
I really think that's not very fair... first because i don't want a phone that somebody used before me, and i don't want to give my phone to someone else
second because they don't really care that i lost all my data... after all this mess i will only obtain a phone that isn't new, and without my data! just like if google erased all my data for nothing.
please guys at least tell me if there's a way to recover all the data i've lost. You know: i have a 16gb flash storage full of data in my hand that i want to copy on my pc, there should be a way!
sorry for the anger

i also read a forum in the country i live (italy) and it seems to be a frequent problem these days... a lot of guys who have a 9-10 months old phone accuse the same issue, and the only solution seems to be the motherboard substitution (or the google warancy phone substitution). Google told me they will give me a refurbished phone, but i know sometimes they have scratches, they are not perfect, so why do i have to trade my phone for another one that could not be new? i know they used to send new phones in the early days... Do you guys have experience in that? have you ever send you nexus5 to google? what did they do?

You get a refurbished one because too many people have RMA'd for silly reasons like loose power buttons, speaker hole size and screen light bleed. So blame them.
Usually a refurbished device should be near-perfect; those who have gotten ones with damage are just unlucky; and you can just call Google again anyways.

i think i'll see if i can get my phone fixed with the LG warrancy in a LGcentre in my town, at least they will tell me if i have to throw my phone away... then i'll use the google warrancy.
to me it sounds as your storage corrupted, not power button. if it was power button, youd be able to get it booted, then it would bootloop. if it is the storage that corrupted, an rma would be best.
