What speeds are you getting? i.e if you bought one and would care to post benchmarks i would be interesting.
I think it would be good to have an idea what every one getting in their note 8 using very similar cards and how much gain there is to be had from a jump and if even our device is even capable of utilizing the full potential.
I have the Sandisk class 10 64 Gb ultra (formatted ex fat with 8KB cluster size) and the Here are my benchmarks results averaging over 3 iterations. (the numbers seem absurd to me)
Benchmarks using A1 SD Bench (longer thorough test setting)
External SD Card : Read : 15.7 MB/s ; Write 8.04 MB/s
Internal : Read: 38.77 MB/s ; Write 18.11 MB/s
I'll try some other sd testing/ benchmarking tools too , just to make sure of consistencies.

Thanks,
The benchmarks might give good idea to be selective in what to move to external SD so any speed bottlenecks do not affect app performance.
Some gamers could definitely experience some lag but not most average apps.

well, current firmware I am on Note 8.0 Wifi is stock 4.1.2, so until I get official update (hopefully soon) 4.2.2, we will have move to SD feature, then I will see how well it works...after all, I am not planning to use my note 8.0 for heavy gaming, but awarage games probably do fine moving to SD I guess...it is all about saving some space on internal sd card since damn Samsung fills out bunch of stuff and only give you 7-8 GB available free space on 16GB tablet...stupid if you ask me...

Nice! It's still kinda expensive for me, I might bite when it drops to the $50 range. The card I'm running now is doing pretty good-
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Micro...&qid=1377427608&sr=1-1&keywords=sandisk+64+gb
SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter
Samsung microSDXC UHS-I Class 10 64 GB
I bought a Samsung card in Poland microSDXC UHS-I Class 10 64 GB for about $ 70 and I must say it works very well in Note 8.0 and my phone Galaxy SII. Note the formatting shows 58.53 GB
Finally, I have no problem with the fit of my music and not have to constantly shift her to listen to the other.
And even movie everyone will fit.

Still contemplating on the SD card extreme.. Any luck with the benchmarks for note 8?

Greeting.
I ordered my my first Android phone from Handtec which is 8GB version so i planed to get 16GB MicroSD for storage.
I don't know what is the Best for the G. S i9000 in term of Speed.
my range is around $100.
appreciate your input.
i have a class 6 16gb which i upgraded from class 2 and read times were better on my Omnia II, large movies played smoother, and ofcourse transfering files to the class 6 was faster, the brand ive got is Trancend...
im not sure if there are faster classes.. but class 6 should be under $100
thanks Ferdimage.
I found this Transcend 16GB Micro SDHC Flash Card with SD Adapter Model TS16GUSDHC6 from newegg.com
it cost $68.99, is this what you're talking about?
so, i out this on the list.
i need opinion on the Sandisk brand.

yup thats the one im using, im not sure about sandisk,
but before my purchase i read reviews on benchmarks and Transcend vs A-Data were the fast ones at the time.
Will consider it,
Thank you.
Sandisk is considered as one of the best producers of memory cards. I personaly have Transcend 8GB class6 so far no issues.
Ordered this "Kingston 16GB Micro SDHC Flash Card w/2 Adapters Model SDC10/16GB-2ADP" which is Class 10.
from newegg.com : $98.99 with free shipping.
I think it's good.
I think the comments about movies playing more smoothly above is likely untrue, probably the result of what the user expected to see, as the read speeds are essentially the same regardless of class rating.
When do people feel a class 6 32GB card will be available?
No indication from Sandisk yet ASAIK.
If you want a 32Gb card I'd get one now, rather than wait. I'm loving mine, finally I can have my whole music collection on my phone with a little room to spare! As I mentioned, outside of big transfers to the card, the Class rating doesn't really affect in-phone performance.

Seeing as the 32GB MicroSD is a Class 2 only at the present, how do you find read/write times?
I'm seriously looking to obtain one myself.
EDITED:
I realize you don't have your i9000 yet and that you are using the 32GB card with another phone but besides the read/write times I mention above, what about basic operation such as Movie Recording?
What concerns me is if the 32GB Class 2 card is not going to be fast enough for the i9000's 720p video recording.
For SD cards, the class rating is the same as the write speed in Mbytes. i.e. Class 2 = 2MB/s, Class 10 = 10MB/s etc.
Although like most users I got better speeds than that when I loaded it in a card reader.
Recording in 720P is the only concern area I have, I suspect it won't be fast enough for that... But then I won't need to use my internal 8GB for anything will I, so I'll just record to that...

Yes, I'm happy with these type of results TravUK.
I never believe them though because there are so many non-related tests that can effect the results.

Yes, I agree the 720p does look as if we will be asking too much of the card.
However, I rather like the idea of Internal Memory. I simply forgot all about that.
Nice one.
I think class 4 should be sufficient as my hd canon camera recording using class 4 SD card

The SanDisk ultra 16GB(class 4) writes in 15MB/s. It's even faster than Kinston class 10.
I would wait for 32GB ultra from Sandisk. I'm getting the 16GB ultra for now, as internal memory is 8GB+2GB ROM...

Speed Class Rating
The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for SD Cards, defined by the SD Association. It is equal to 8 Mbit/s, and it measures the minimum write speeds based on "the best fragmented state where no memory unit is occupied"
The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:
* Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
* Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
* Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
* Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)

Not all cards conform to this rule. It really does differ card to card.
The Sandisk Ultra is indeed a much quicker card, despite it only having a Class 4 rating.
Yeah, I am not making it up. Here are the Swedish benchmarks:

This one is for 16GB Sandisc ultra class 4:

I am almost a bit offended that you actually lectured me with Wikipedia, lol!
But I was confused to, it turns out that it's a known mystery that Sandisc don't claim the higher classes. I almost got the inferior Kingston for a significantly larger price. As seen above, the Ultra is also better when only small bits of data is used, so there you go... I hope this helps!

What's the speed of yours when copying files over USB? I get like 5MB/s max. I wonder if mine is faulty.

I have the same card also. My readings are very strange with SD Tools. I can run it and get as low as 4MB/s read and 18MB/s write. When I run the test again immediately it can go as high as 9.7MB/s read and 36MB/s write. I can keep doing it over and over and every time is a different reading. I've tried to do this after rebooting, I've tried it on different roms (AOSP and Sense) and still the same thing. I've tried SD Booster and it didn't help much either.
so it seems that the results of this app maybe not reliable, or there is another something that affect on the results.
Anyway it does not appear to benefit from this test.
thnx very much
Can't you people see that it does not matter which class you have. Because Dhd can't write faster than 5–9 mbs even if you have class 10.
So put whichever you like to use you will get the same speed. I have both a class 2 and a class 10 and I get theI same result.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
I'm really suspicious, I wonder if it's reliable, cause I got results that was better the first time.
I don't know if it's reliable or not, but I did 3 tests on my DHD, AR 6.3.1 mod, quite a few apps installed, half-full SD card a KINGMAX 16GB Class 6 which i bought 2 days ago. My previous card was a SAMSUNG 8GB Class 2 (the one that came with the phone).
What's interesting to note is that, after doing the first test I thought to myself "hey, why not overclock the cpu from 1.1GHz to 1.6GHz?" and so the second test went better than expected. Then I went from 1.6GHz to 1.2GHz and I got slightly better results than the 1.1GHz. See for yourself:
1.1:
1.6:
1.2:
Coincidence much? Or working as intended?
Notes: Both cards are SDHC. OC has been done with Daemon Controller. 1.1=1152000. 1.2=122880. 1.6=1612800.
Even without over clocking you will get a different result every time u run the test, even if u do it back to back. I think the test is full of **** and shouldn't be relied on.

Yes.
I'm using it since 2 weeks.
You can read all about it here:

Sd tools?
I'm extremely dubious about the results obtained from SD tools. I recently bought a 16GB, class 10 Samsung card and got to testing it. I got almost identical results for the 16GB card as I did for the 8GB, class 2 card that came with phone, but I did notice a difference in the time each card took to complete the test so I timed them.
8GB Class class 2: write 87 seconds, read 27seconds.
16GB Class 10: write 51 seconds, read 7 seconds.
So going by time took the class 10 is a lot faster but not according to the figures from SD tool results. Maybe someone else could try and post their results. I know this is off topic but if SDtools doesn't give accurate results none of these posts are any good.

For those that dont want to click on the links the choices are:
Sandisk 32GB Class 4
SanDisk 32GB Ultra Class 6
Lexar 32gb Class 10
Samsung 32GB Class 10
Some say class 4 for max random reads/writes which is better for our devices and some say class 10 has max sustained reads and writes
Havent heard much on the ultra...
I currently use the Sandisk 32gb cl 4. Works well.
But before this I had a 16gb class 10 Patriot which was a tad bit faster on the load, but I need the space more than the speed at this point lol.
That Sandisk Class 10 you have listed in your links is a Class 6.
The Samsung one is the best of the lot. Class 10 continuous speed and benchmarks similar to the Sandisk Class 4 for Random R/W. I just received my 32 GB Samsung a few days ago.
edit: I couldn't find much info on that Sandisk 32GB Mobile Ultra (class 6). With the right hardware, the read can go up to ~30 MB/s but write is ~8 MB/s. I couldn't find any benchmarks on random r/w. If I had to guess, I would say that based on Sandisk's reputation - it should have good random r/w.
I benched my Samsung with SD Tools in my Sensation (~25% full, so not optimal).
Write: 9.4 MB/s, Read: 25.9 MB/s
I agree with k0zmic. All are good cards and you can't go wrong with any of those.
All are good cards IMO, can't go wrong with any.
Comes down to price and whether you transfer big files back and forth enough to warrant Class 10 speeds for £10 more.
Im thinking lexar or samsung
Is the samsung worth the extra cash?

Yeah I think I did read somewhere (might have been on the back of the Ultra packaging) that it has better random r/w speeds.
Can you do a speed test with the Samsung with file sizes of 1MB and below? I'd like to see how it stacks up. I think it's comparable to a Class 4 card of the same size from what I've seen in other threads so it's a solid card.

personally I will go for lexar one, as it is the leading profesional card for digital camera. however every micro sd card is different so you cant expect to get the same speed from every single one, the class 10 or 6 or 4 indicate that the minimum speed is 10mb/s 6 and 4 mb/s respectively
After seeing the chart above I think im gonna grab a samsung, thanks guys!

That's a nice SD card (thinking of picking one up for my camera or camcorder)...
But it won't work in our Sensations since it's a standard SD card.

Just received my Lexar 32 GB Class 10. Was choosing between Samsung Class 10, Lexar Class 10, and SanDisk, but went with Lexar after reading a bunch of reviews. Lexar has been in business for a while.

I'm using 16 GB class 6 version and it was quite good deal for me. Speed is really good and price is friendly. I'm dissapointed with sandisk after my very expensive pendrive died after one year of using....

I have but they are just too expensive
It's a Class 4, but thought I'd post it anyway in case someone wanted it. $18 is a damned good price.

Nice find.
I ended up buying the Class 10 as my other card died for some reason.
Amazon also has cards for real cheap. Around the same price as frys. Their 64 gbs got real cheap too (70 bucks now). Might try to pick them up soon.
if Fry's like Micro Center? I have never been to Fry's but hear about 'em a lot.

From what I understand, the higher the class, the faster the card.

Yes. I always go with the statement "the class is about the speed of the card". So you want the highest class possible. I suggest, in a mobile phone, so you don't really experience any lag when playing music stored on the card, you'll want to have a class 6 or higher. I always go for a class 10, if I can.

I've had 2 cheap sd cards die on me...
Exact same symptoms both times... First notice that some of my installed (on SD) apps are showing up with a shadow icon after a re-boot, fixable with a dismount and remount of the card, then it happens to more of the apps, then within a week or 2 the sd card reports itself as "blank or unformatted" Once it got to that point they couldn't be formatted by any device I have...
From first symptom to dead card was about 3 weeks or so total both times.
I'll cough up the extra for a decent card this time.

From what I understand, the phone hardware and/or rom may limit how high a class can be used. On my old HTC Aria running CM7 there was no point buying anything higher than class 6 (I used a 4 with no problems). I don't know if the skyrocket or ICS have the same issue. Still, you're not likely to notice much of a difference at class 6 or higher (depending on how you use it).

I've had a Class 2, 4, and 6 (w/UMS-1) micro SDXC cards. They were all retail packaged Sandisk. On 4 different Galaxy phones (Galaxy U, S, SII, SII Skyrocket) and one external usb reader, the transfer speed was 3.8MB-4.5MB when transferring large files. Classes didn't seem to matter on the Galaxy phones or the usb reader I had. Looking at the results of my test, I'm glad I didn't buy a 64GB micro sdxc Class 10 for double the price as it is telling me that I probably won't be seeing any speed improvements with it. I think part of the reason why it is so slow is that I'm transferring from a USB external to my USB plugged in device. But that is almost always going to be the case with me.
It would be nice to see UMS-1 compatible Galaxy phones in the future.
Tempted to get a 32gb one. I keep having to delete image backups when testing out 5 different ROMs at the same time :silly:
I had an issue with my Skyrocket and SD Cards a month or so back. The phone would take 4-5 seconds to wake up when I pressed the power key. I had a class 4 16GB Wintec MicroSD in there. When I took the MicroSD out, the phone jumped right back to normal.
Has anyone else had this problem, and more importantly, has anyone else using a Class 6+ MicroSD noticed lag time between waking the device and the display coming on? I might have to go get myself a Class 6 (if not Class 10) MicroSD if everyone's had good luck thus far.
20 Read // 11 Write via USB Adapter
23 Read // 14 Write via Samsung S3 @300mb
Format to exFAT and you get +1-2mb~ Write.

You need to re-run that SD card test app and change the path from sdcard to external sd card. That test ran on the internal sd card memory for the phone and not the external card. (another hint is it shows total memory size is 11GB)

YEah I was wondering how you got much higher spees than I did hahaha.
Max write is 13/mbs and I was hitting 10 consistantly. Max read is 24 and I couldn't get higher than 20-20.5

Yeah the USB Adapter benchmark was giving 20/11 so I was surprised when my bro sent me his benchmarks and it was higher (I was thinking it was the benchmark itself) but I guess I overlooked the internal SD.

Same price as frys.
I am confused, whether to get (prices in INR):
Samsung Evo Plus 256GB -/2899
SanDisk Extreme 256GB -/3105
SanDisk Ultra 256GB -/2337
Also, does the Poco X3 Pro support or benefit from A2 sd cards?
Go for Sandisk Extreme, I guess is a good choice. And yes, all android phones with API level 28 (android 9) supposed to support it. I have this one in my phone, is not A2 but I love it.

Sandisk has a long guarantee, with the extreme micro sds i guess 10 years. And yes, i had a defect micro sd from sandisk (could not be written on it nor delete files. I had to send them an individual card number (very small with laser written?? and a piccture of the destroyed card (murdered it with sissors) and i got a new one. Very good service. i think the extreme variant ist the fastest. If you consider the long guarantee, i think the higher price will result in higher profit

The SanDisk Ultra offers 10years and Extreme has got lifetime warranty!
You are pefectly right... What could be better than a lifelong guarantee??
Jup. SanDisk do have some pretty nice warrant. I've also replaced 2 broken cards. 128gb and 64gb back in the days.
They actually shipped back 2 different packages... They were huge for such a small card ^^
But Samsung isn't bad either.
Speed mostly isn't limited by the Card but by the reader of the smartphone or the software.
A1 SD card bench. Read 41 Write 17
SD card Test:
Write: 17

Thanks for the info. Did also test the speed in crDroid 7.12 (A11) on Poco X3 Pro 8/256 GB with the same App.
Internal Memory:
487 MB/S Write 1348 MB/s Read
Removable SD (in my case SanDisk Ultra 256 GB Class10 U1) exfat:
30 MB/S Write 74 MB/s Read
I measured the speed on the version with a 732 processor (the card readers in the devices are the same). I could not get more than 90/50 megabytes for reading / writing from a sandisk extreme card. I came to the conclusion that installing cards on this platform better than the mass Ultra Sandisk or Samsung Evo is a waste of money.

Indeed happy with the speed of Internal Memory and with the 8/256 GB version there is a lot.
I think UFS 3.1 256 GB in this price class is top value (paired with good CPU).
SD should be used as backup drive and for storage of files not opened often, like Music, Movies, etc.
@AIIIOT what app is that?
Looks pretty useful.

You're telling the truth. But, I answered the question about the memory card. There is no point in wasting money on the expensive one. The device is not the fastest card reader.
