I ordered my my first Android phone from Handtec which is 8GB version so i planed to get 16GB MicroSD for storage.
I don't know what is the Best for the G. S i9000 in term of Speed.
my range is around $100.

i have a class 6 16gb which i upgraded from class 2 and read times were better on my Omnia II, large movies played smoother, and ofcourse transfering files to the class 6 was faster, the brand ive got is Trancend...
im not sure if there are faster classes.. but class 6 should be under $100

yup thats the one im using, im not sure about sandisk,
but before my purchase i read reviews on benchmarks and Transcend vs A-Data were the fast ones at the time.

Sandisk is considered as one of the best producers of memory cards. I personaly have Transcend 8GB class6 so far no issues.

I think the comments about movies playing more smoothly above is likely untrue, probably the result of what the user expected to see, as the read speeds are essentially the same regardless of class rating.
When do people feel a class 6 32GB card will be available?

If you want a 32Gb card I'd get one now, rather than wait. I'm loving mine, finally I can have my whole music collection on my phone with a little room to spare! As I mentioned, outside of big transfers to the card, the Class rating doesn't really affect in-phone performance.

Seeing as the 32GB MicroSD is a Class 2 only at the present, how do you find read/write times?
I'm seriously looking to obtain one myself.

I realize you don't have your i9000 yet and that you are using the 32GB card with another phone but besides the read/write times I mention above, what about basic operation such as Movie Recording?
What concerns me is if the 32GB Class 2 card is not going to be fast enough for the i9000's 720p video recording.
For SD cards, the class rating is the same as the write speed in Mbytes. i.e. Class 2 = 2MB/s, Class 10 = 10MB/s etc.
Although like most users I got better speeds than that when I loaded it in a card reader.
Recording in 720P is the only concern area I have, I suspect it won't be fast enough for that... But then I won't need to use my internal 8GB for anything will I, so I'll just record to that...

Yes, I'm happy with these type of results TravUK.
I never believe them though because there are so many non-related tests that can effect the results.
I always look at real results.

Yes, I agree the 720p does look as if we will be asking too much of the card.
However, I rather like the idea of Internal Memory. I simply forgot all about that.

The SanDisk ultra 16GB(class 4) writes in 15MB/s. It's even faster than Kinston class 10.
I would wait for 32GB ultra from Sandisk. I'm getting the 16GB ultra for now, as internal memory is 8GB+2GB ROM...

Not all cards conform to this rule. It really does differ card to card.
The Sandisk Ultra is indeed a much quicker card, despite it only having a Class 4 rating.

But I was confused to, it turns out that it's a known mystery that Sandisc don't claim the higher classes. I almost got the inferior Kingston for a significantly larger price. As seen above, the Ultra is also better when only small bits of data is used, so there you go... I hope this helps!

It supports it, yes. But in my opinion class 10 is a bit overkill for the day-to-day things you do with your phone. A friend of mine had a class 10 8gb card and bought a class 6 16gb card. He said he noticed no difference..

Yup yup, like m4dm4n said, it's physically about four times to big to fit in the Desire. Wrong card type.

Can you prove that with any benchmarks or is it just your imagination?
Class 10 means it's capable of writing 10MB/s. Apps2SD is mostly about reading data and I'm pretty sure you wont get much difference in speed between class 4 and class 10 in reading on a phone.
Also I'm afraid that the phone/app itself might not be able to write that fast.
I would spend the money on class 2/4 32GB card and have all my music with me.
I just recently bought the Patriot 32gb microSDHC class 10 card and after careful troubleshooting I found that it was the cause of my screen not waking up and random crashes. Perhaps older class 10 cards would work, or maybe it's the mix of 32gb with class 10? I'm getting the sandisk 32gb class 2. Hopefully that will work better.
I didn't know they make 32gb class 10. If the card makes your phone buggy that is surely not because its class 10. Maybe you should get the card replaced?

I use A2SD+ and its way faster than the shipped class 2
I bought a kingmax 16 gb class 10 and im very happy with the performance. I use DHD rom with data2ext and its very fast. Plus the mounting time or should I say preparing sd card time during the startup is much much faster compare to me previous class 2 memory card. If u have the money go for class 10. Otherwise class 6 will do fine.

All tests on phone are with running DATA2SD script, so please note they would be higher on clean stock rom (as DATA2SD script is constantly using card). That is why I insist class 10 is must have if you want to get good performance over DATA2SD ROM.

kl_arnet: of the cards you tested, which would you recommend for speed/performance vs cost as the best "bang for your buck" ?? I am returning a Patriot LX Series 8GB Class 10 (PSF8GMCSDHC10) as I could only achieve an average of 2.5 for write speeds using StarBurst 1.2.1. The read speeds were fantastic at greater than 12. But the write speeds made the phone a bit too laggy, so I have reverted back to my stock 8gb samsung class 2 and Modaco R9 until I can find a decent class 6 or class 10 card that will have guaranteed decent write speeds in StarBurst.

Both USB Adapters are really small and you can show off with MicroSD card literally going under the USB plug.

I've paid 125 PLN that is about 40 $ at internet shop (be careful on ebay as they sell chinese cheap fake crap from dealextreme.com). Card is doing very well especially if you compare speed and price to Kingston or SanDisk.
Speed:
I'm not professional IT technician so I was really surprised that home made benchmark went better than Kingston's (usually overboosted) found on benchmarking site.
Performance:
StarBurst with Siebre's dedicated DATA2SD runs smoothly, especially after last Siebre's dalvik2nand update.
Long Story Short:
I'm happy with cheap genuine ADATA Class 10 16 gb card.

Trying to clear something up - I will be getting a 32GB SDHC Card but wondering about which particular one to go for. There is the SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Card which is listed as Class 2 but theres varying opinions about the actual speed of it compared to cards that are a higher class for example the Lexar 32GB microSDHC Card which is a Class 10.
I'm trying to find out how much of a difference the Class 10 makes to the Class 2 if any because I have read on quite a few different sites the SanDisk Class 2 is just as fast reading and writing?

If it's class 2 it means it has minimum read/write speed of 2MB/s, while class 10 is 10MB/s.

Prices vary here in the UK significantly depending on which retailer so I wouldn't feel bad.

Would be nice to hear from anyone who has that Lexar card that could confirm if its any good or not.
Sandisk usually deliver more than promised, so a class 4 could be performing like class 6 or even class 10. On the other hand if it performs just like class 4, you can't return it claiming there is something wrong with it. Anyway if i could spare the money for these cards I'd probably go for the SanDisk and hope for higher speeds - their quality is unmatched.

Careful when buying Sandisk, I have read there are many counterfeit items sold very cheap on eBay. Those probably are the cards that were rejected by Sandisk (didn't pass QC).
I've always bought genuine SanDisk from reputable places, have this one coming from play.com. I know what your saying about eBay I would never use that place or market type sellers as they are bad news. I was debating the Lexar but too many bad reviews put me off. I haven't heard of that Patriot brand before here in the UK, there's so many though.
I know the SanDisk one I've ordered is class 2 but many people say it performs like class 4 due to SanDisk build. There reliable too that's really why I went for that one, should do the job fine.

If the speed of 32gb Sandisk was just as good as a class 10 card, then sandisk would label it as class 10. You might be able to see a class 2 card with read/write speeds of above 10mb/s but that doesn't mean that it's as fast as a class 10 card. The class of the card only shows the MINIMUM sustained read/write speeds of the card and has nothing to do with the peak speeds.
My patriot 16GB class 10 is significantly faster than my older 8GB transcend class 6 card, here are some speed comparisons using SD-Tools:
Class10 Patriot - Class6 Transend
As you can see even the class 6 reached over 10mb/s mark, but if I start copying large amount of smaller files (mp3 for example) the speed of the class 6 card plumets to 6mb/s while the class 10 card stays at around 10mb/s.
I have a SanDisk class 2 (8GB), write speed is 7MB/s and read speed 14MB/s.
That's faster than class 6!

Lexus 32GB Class 10
I have a Lexus 32Gb Class 10 in my DHD - I swapped it from my SanDisk 32GB Class 2.
It seems faster and so far if anything has had fewer problems than the SanDisk. It is also cheaper in some places than the SanDisk.
What is the best brand/class to go for?

I've had 9.0 Write and 170.6 Read on my Lexar 16Gb Class 6

I just enabled a2sd, on my HTC Desire, and I have moved the cache and the data (In-short Everything) to the SD card so now 208Mb free out of 218Mb. I have the stock SD card, it's class 2. So after I moved the data to the SD I feel that applications take like 3-6 seconds to open sometimes less and sometimes more. I was wondering what SD class I should buy?
I am not interested in SD cards by their price or storage. My only concern is fast random access. Because as far as I have red till now, you may get a class 10 SD card and get disappointed because still the performance will be slow and it maybe even slower than the class 2 card I use now. So if I am not wrong, and what I should check in an SD card is the random access please tell me your suggestions for my new SD card, and if possible the random access speed of your suggestion.
Well I was researching for a MicroSD card and decided on the 32GB SanDisk MicroSD card which I paid £24.99 and free delivery in the UK, although I paid £5 for postage as I wanted it fast!!
I would say this is exactly what I found, perfect card and not had any issues with it at all! It's a class 4 but like you say, random read / writes are most important!

Consider only class 4 or class6 cards. With class 10 there is speed writing large files but because of that the random access writing of small files is very slow. Class 2 cards on the other hand are "just class 2 cards". Class 4 is good but for desire for the most speed comes from a class 6 card. Even if you want to record 720p video you need a class 6 card. I have had a class 4 and the video was laggy.
I'm using class 2 and class 10 SD card on my devices. both ROMs using X2SD and class 10 really faster.
I am using A-data 16gb class 10 card with no problem
I'm using an 8GB class 6 working well here with app2sd. and also with mounted EXT4 1gb partition.

Dang, that's quite a citation. I ordered a 16gb Class 10 last week because it was the same price as the Class 6s I was seeing--looks like I didn't get as great a deal as I thought.

My best choice at the moment is the Kingston 8Gb Class 10.
Please note that these are benchmarks performed with a limited test on a different hardware and design on a PC, and not inside your phone.
as i posted somewhere else, i really don't feel any speed advantages between a class 6 16gb and a class 10 32gb card, so save your money :-D
but if you often use it to share big files, then it's better to buy a higher class card, because the transfer rate is better

As far as I know, many of the higher class cards have been produced by biasing performance to continuous read/write speeds, for use in camcorders/cameras etc so they can record ultra HD or burst capture etc. HOWEVER, for use in a phone, which needs greater random read/write access they can suffer compared to a regular class 4 which is a better balanced card. There is a lot of this going on in the HTC Mozart pages here on XDA, where I've been spending time (had a Mozart, ROM'd it and gave it to my girlfriend, she loves it).
Many people have tried different 32gb/16gb cards, different classes from 2-10 and the results have been surprising. WP7 seems to be unusually fussy about the cards that will actually work with it, and the only card guaranteed to work everytime is SANDISK which says a lot about the quality, and people have been finding that performance with a Class 4 SanDisk card is better than performance with a supposed Class 10 card by another manufacturer such as Integral, Transcend etc or even Samsung and Kingston.
In the end I bought a 32gb SanDisk Class 4 off Amazon, for a lot more than they are on eBay at around £28, apparently there are loads of near-fakes on eBay (only way I could guarantee it was genuine- the chinese are using genuine 4gb SanDisk cards and then re-branding and re-coding them as 32gb, the card thinks it's a 32gb, reports that it's a 32gb card but obviously runs out of room and has errors as soon as you try to put stuff on it).
I am more than happy with my new class 10 Samsung 16GB card, I have been using it with the new Aurora ROM (version 5) and it is a beauty! I previously had the original-packed 4GB class 2 card, it was an absolute nightmare - I really can't tell why it took me so long to get over it and buy the new one.
I am using Samsung Class 6 8Gb card. Seems good right now
I have tried Transcend Class 10 Card but I think its not compatible as the phone constantly reboot, and sometimes it says SD Card Error.
I have a card class 6 and is very fast!

I currently use the Sandisk 32gb cl 4. Works well.
But before this I had a 16gb class 10 Patriot which was a tad bit faster on the load, but I need the space more than the speed at this point lol.
That Sandisk Class 10 you have listed in your links is a Class 6.
The Samsung one is the best of the lot. Class 10 continuous speed and benchmarks similar to the Sandisk Class 4 for Random R/W. I just received my 32 GB Samsung a few days ago.
edit: I couldn't find much info on that Sandisk 32GB Mobile Ultra (class 6). With the right hardware, the read can go up to ~30 MB/s but write is ~8 MB/s. I couldn't find any benchmarks on random r/w. If I had to guess, I would say that based on Sandisk's reputation - it should have good random r/w.
I benched my Samsung with SD Tools in my Sensation (~25% full, so not optimal).
Write: 9.4 MB/s, Read: 25.9 MB/s
I agree with k0zmic. All are good cards and you can't go wrong with any of those.

Yeah I think I did read somewhere (might have been on the back of the Ultra packaging) that it has better random r/w speeds.
Can you do a speed test with the Samsung with file sizes of 1MB and below? I'd like to see how it stacks up. I think it's comparable to a Class 4 card of the same size from what I've seen in other threads so it's a solid card.

I'd go with the Samsung, from what I have read the Lexar doesn't have very good speeds with small random file sizes.
I have the lexar one it's super fast and I don't worry about space :thumbup:

I'm not sure how to test with sizes 1MB and below but here's a crystaldiskmark result with the 50 mb option (I emptied the card, but it benched quicker before I had)

Wow, those are very good random speeds. I may look into getting a Samsung card. My SanDisk class4 is almost that fast in random, but is only class 4 speeds when loading the card up with info.

personally I will go for lexar one, as it is the leading profesional card for digital camera. however every micro sd card is different so you cant expect to get the same speed from every single one, the class 10 or 6 or 4 indicate that the minimum speed is 10mb/s 6 and 4 mb/s respectively

That's a nice SD card (thinking of picking one up for my camera or camcorder)...
But it won't work in our Sensations since it's a standard SD card.
Fry's had the samsung microsd card for ~36$ USD Shipped a couple days ago.

Just received my Lexar 32 GB Class 10. Was choosing between Samsung Class 10, Lexar Class 10, and SanDisk, but went with Lexar after reading a bunch of reviews. Lexar has been in business for a while.

I'm using 16 GB class 6 version and it was quite good deal for me. Speed is really good and price is friendly. I'm dissapointed with sandisk after my very expensive pendrive died after one year of using....

Go for Sandisk Extreme, I guess is a good choice. And yes, all android phones with API level 28 (android 9) supposed to support it. I have this one in my phone, is not A2 but I love it.

Sandisk has a long guarantee, with the extreme micro sds i guess 10 years. And yes, i had a defect micro sd from sandisk (could not be written on it nor delete files. I had to send them an individual card number (very small with laser written?? and a piccture of the destroyed card (murdered it with sissors) and i got a new one. Very good service. i think the extreme variant ist the fastest. If you consider the long guarantee, i think the higher price will result in higher profit

They actually shipped back 2 different packages... They were huge for such a small card ^^

Thanks for the info. Did also test the speed in crDroid 7.12 (A11) on Poco X3 Pro 8/256 GB with the same App.
Internal Memory:
487 MB/S Write 1348 MB/s Read
Removable SD (in my case SanDisk Ultra 256 GB Class10 U1) exfat:
30 MB/S Write 74 MB/s Read
I measured the speed on the version with a 732 processor (the card readers in the devices are the same). I could not get more than 90/50 megabytes for reading / writing from a sandisk extreme card. I came to the conclusion that installing cards on this platform better than the mass Ultra Sandisk or Samsung Evo is a waste of money.

Indeed happy with the speed of Internal Memory and with the 8/256 GB version there is a lot.
I think UFS 3.1 256 GB in this price class is top value (paired with good CPU).
SD should be used as backup drive and for storage of files not opened often, like Music, Movies, etc.

You're telling the truth. But, I answered the question about the memory card. There is no point in wasting money on the expensive one. The device is not the fastest card reader.
