[Q] A700 Ghost touches - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

Hi,
i have a courious Problem, mainly posting here in hope some have already opened up their A700 and know a bit more about the hardware.
I had to open up mine to repair the usb/Power port at the bottom. (no problems there now - and yes i was carefull while opening - i used the maintenance guide that was posted here for the A700)
My Problem now is: after I put it back into the case, I now have the following issue:
while in landscape no touches are recognized.
Landscape mode UPSIDEDOWN - most touches are recognized but with some ghost touches.
Portraitmode has issues as well.
First i thought maybe its some stress on the screen because a cable was pressed on it so i open up the device again and testet it without the cover:
without Cover:
i have some ghost touches in every mode (landscape, upsidedown, portrait)
i tested with the phone tester apk.
anyone has an idea what can cause this error? - since i already had the screen replaced very early after i bought it i'm reluctant to pay 300€ again for a new screen (since its unlocked...)
any of you hardware wizzards have an idea? could it be a broken connection on the digitizer/cable that i damaged by accident? Though i only opened the backplane and disconnected the usb/powercable from the mainboard and reattached it.
much appreciated
thanks
cheers
Buster

landscape mode often shut down and auto flip

hello to everyone,
i would like to expose the problem that afflict my htc touch pro aka raphael, often when i have to write and i switch on the built-in keyboard the procedure seems to go correctly, the landscape flip, the keyboard lits and everything gonna fine until while digiting few digits the keyboards unlit, the screen flips in normal mode and never return to landscape, but the keyboard after few instants returns lit.
i know that probably, not surely, it's a hardware fault, like a fake contact, but opening the phone, the fast contact seems to be in good state, i placed a tap of insulation scotch to make sure that the connector, on the sliding moment doesn't go out from the socket on the board; the conductive mylar seems all connected on the whole surfaces and now i'm breaking my head and that effect annoy me too much and i'm near to practicin' the throwning phone sports...
maybe someone of you had thesame or a similar problem and solved it?
i precise that the phone is a de-brandized one, there is no more warranty cause i bought it by 2nd hand and the problem wasn't present 1 month ago..
any suggestion?

Help needed - HTC Touch Pro2 Verizon sliding hardware keyboard's problem

I have searched the internet, YouTube and this forum before I decided to post, so please help me.
The sliding hard keyboard on my HTC Touch Pro 2 Verizon only works and functions correctly when I open slide it half way horizontally. This means I can only use half the numbers of the buttons on the keyboard.
I intend to disassemble and have a look at all the flex cables, connections but everything works fine if I just slide the keyboard half way.
So I guess there must be a problem with the connections or sensor devices of the phone when the keyboard is slided fully.
My question is:
Where exactly should I look at when I disassemble the phone?
How much do I need to disassemble to be able to access the place that may cause the problem? (I’m afraid of disassembling everything.)
Hopefully, what kind of cleaning or fixing connection parts when the keyboard is fully slided I can do on my own at home?
…………………………….
If I slide it fully horizontally or move the upper part of the phone (screen) upwards after maximum sliding (as the phone designed for), the following problems happen:
1. the touch screen does not work or reacts strangely, sometimes it hangs, no reactions. The send, start, return, light, stop/power buttons on the phone’s upper part don't work correctly.
2. Worse, This sometimes causes black blank screen + hang and I have to remove the battery then power the phone on again.
The backlights and functions of all the buttons + keyboard still work. I bought it secondhand so no warranty, no replacement parts available in Vietnam.
I’m using Mighty rom: WM 6.5 - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87), Radio 1.88.07WV.
1. Try to Hard Reset it.....
Problem Solved.... Congrats....
If Not....
2. Your Flex Cable is damage... Replace it....
Flex cable comes along all the SMDs.... i.e you don't need to solder any part...
Replace it as describe in Service Manual and change it...
Try to Buy it from online shopping websites

[Q] Ghost touches (especially in dock) with TF700t. How to fix this?

I had issues with my Asus TF700t that quite often it did not react on touch gestures.
And on the home screen the "change backround" dialog opened sometimes without any touch on the device.
This happend very very often when it was in the dock, but also without the dock (less occurence).
Now i know that the reason are ghost touches. By the usage of touch test apps (e.g. "Simple Touchscreen Tester" oder "Yet Another MultiTouch Test") i realized the ghost touches.
This touches are recognized always on the same coordinates. The multitouch test app detects 4 fingers on the same y-axis.
When the tab is in the dock and i open it completely to the maximum the two bolts from the dock are pressing very strong to the background of the screen glass. This is causing the ghost touches.
I opened the tab and tried to find what could be wrong (especially on the area where the touches are detected).
Anyhow i could not find anything. The only thing i noticed was the on the y-axis of the ghost touches the screen is fixed on the left and the right.
I check everything else closed the case ... but the ghost touches are still present.
Any idea how to fix the issue??? Who else realized the same issue???
Attached some screen shots from the touch test apps.

Sounds like you have a digitiser hardware issue to me. Had the same on my Surface RT. Only fix was to get it replaced.
Yeah, I just got mine back from warranty digitizer recalibration.

Another TF700T here that just returned from RMA with digitizer repair. Went very smoothly for me and I have a TF700T that again works extremely well.
Do they replace parts or just recalibration? Is it possible to so this myself?
I have unlocked bootloader and i do not know if they will repair it without any problem. Any experience on this?
Hi,
First, sorry for my english...
Second, I have same problem since saturday 24 august with my TF700T. Buy november 2012.
I tried to updated to android 4.2 But it didn't solve my pb.
I try "Multi Touch test" app and I observed same problem than mr_cg. Thanks for your good description "Ghost touch"
Ghost disappear when i unplug and re-plug dock, (some time two or three time) but just for some second ...

If you are root, you can perhaps try this app:
ILITEK Touch Utility
or
(less chance i think, it did for S2,S3) TouchScreenTune
Me i am not root, but if it is working for you, perhaps i will try to be.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the hint. I tried the apps, but both do not solve my issues.
ILITEK ... descriptions sounds good, but unfortunately not working (i get always "access denied" even i have root for sure).
TouchScreenTune ... Based on description it should be also good tool to reduce/improve situation with ghost touches. Anyhow ... it is not working with TF700t.
I am just thinking if i should open the case again???
If with root permissions you don't find solution ... I think i should call Asus support for my first RMA..
snif snif.
Thanks for your return. I win a lot of time.
Same issue
I'm having the same issue here, but only when docked. Seems like I'll stop using the dock since I am out of waranty because I unlocked the bootloader ...:S
I've been having a similar issue very badly on the right side of my screen, it was practically unusable. I am also out of warranty because I'm unlocked. What I did to make it at least somewhat usable was go into the build prop and change my max touch screen events from 200 to 4, and changed my touch sensitivity from .001 to 1 (this setting may have only been available on CROMI. Anyway, now my touchscreen doesn't work on the right side, however it does work everywhere else, and most importantly I can still use the tab as a laptop in its dock. It's a bumm it doesn't work right, but it's better than a total loss!
Sorry guys, it is a failed design problem due to connection to the touch screen. see my post in the "so i took it apart" thread.
Cost me a ruined lcd screen to figure it out

What a great thread! Thanks, I've posted this elsewhere but having just send my TF700 back to ASUS I now have a pretty good idea of what might have been wrong with it. Here's what I posted and what I've told them anyway. I've overlooked the Ghost touches unfortunately, so I will let them know that (if they don't already)......any comments welcome...
Asus Transformer S/N D20KAS016975
I've struggled with this tablet since purchase in April this year, not being at all familiar with tablets I did not know whether it was just me, the general setup, or the tablet itself at fault. Most certainly the performance is not satisfactory. I have done three 'Factory Resets' and numerous Soft Resets.
Intermittently, the tablet will scroll and flash through various apps, when I open it. Originally File Manager would open itself up, then I got the feeling the Weather app would upset things. Sometimes a browser would make it do the same. Then I tried various Launchers, but the best of them (I think) sometimes shows the menu unannounced. Same thing, on and off until I intervene.
It is also prone to do this just sitting open by itself.
Clearing the caches sometimes fixes this. Sometimes this will stop by itself, other times I need to either close the lid, press the lock button, or turn it off. Then it will be OK.
At times Gmail will scroll randomly through the accounts, messages, labels etc.
Every browser I've tried will sometimes shut itself off, especially if I try to type something into a message box, usually when I've spent some time doing this!
Occasionally I can feel a slight tingling sensation when I'm lightly touching the back of the screen.
One other thing: When left overnight the mouse doesn't work and the tablet needs to be turned off and on again for the mouse to work. I also think the screen doesn't turn off sometimes (can see a light).
At other times the whole thing works just fine.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Grant

Tablet arrived back this morning and seems all OK. Report indicates they replaced the LCD panel (new) & replaced the touch controller board (also new). And did various tests. Good service I think, no fuss. I'll let you know how it's going in a few days.

Grant,
Was your tablet still under warranty? Did they charge anything? I wonder if they redesigned the digitizer connection or just put a new screen which will wear out as well. The digitizer connector runs along the bottom left of tablet screen. Same area is being pressed when you close dock, which wears it out.
You can go to developer settings and enable "show touches" (lowers tablet performance) then press on the bottom left edge of the screen, roughly 1/3 point of its length, and see if you get the ghosts to appear.

Yes, still under warranty (problem was there from day 1 although I didn't realise it at the time) and no charge. See attached pdf Customer report. Shows replacement Led panel, & controller board. No sign of ghost touches so far, and really working well actually. Early days yet, but I also note elsewhere in these forums someone mentioned their tablet not working properly 'upside down'. I neglected to mention it earlier but upside down isn't as funny as his respondents made out. I use mine often lying on the couch watching TV, with the tab upside down. Reason I mention it now is that mine acted up in those circumstances too. Anyway, that's fixed too.

[Q] Phantom Input

I am having issues with my Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH-I353. Over the past few months this problem has been increasing in severity. My screen is detecting "phantom inputs". These inputs are rapid, horizontal movements in the top 1/3 of the screen. These movements render the screen unresponsive, and will register as touches to any screen item in that zone. Turning the screen on and then off stops the movements but only very temporarily. Some days this problem is minimal, while others my phone is nearly impossible to use due to the frequency of these inputs. These inputs occur in the same exact spot every time, and at the same spot that other people have reported, so I can rule out screen scratches or smudges. I created a .gif of the inputs after I turned on "show touch inputs" in the developer options.
I've seen others with this problem online, but no one has narrowed down if this is a software or hardware malfunction. Here are some of my possible problems:
1. Hardware: Possibly a loose cable? Malfunctioning Screen? Possible fix - taking it apart and putting it back together.
2. Software: Screen needs re-calibration of some kind (too sensetive?), would this be possible?
3. App running in the background that overrides touch inputs and is somehow creating this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Other info: Problem started on stock 4.1.2, Verizon SCH-1535
Now on stock 4.3, rooted with xposed modules.
Phone was purchased new in Fall 2012.
No water damage.

Samsung S4 S-sview/ Black Lockscreen flickering Issue (Fixed)

Hi Guys,
I was really frustrated with my Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 as it was continuously flickering the black lockscreen (with Time date) whenever I was on data usage. There were many users who have reported the same for S4 worldwide as well as Note. but none of them confirmed to give any valid resolution to the same.
http://i.imgur.com/HnMb5Ov.jpg?1
There is also a few videos of the same issue.
The issue is obviously with the magnetometer placed near the Volume Down Key and I tried almost all suggestions over google. The one that finally worked is obviously not from my brain !! But this post is for people not to get misguided by other fixes and to document a valid resolution to the issue.
So no credits to me.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
Disabling Sview/ Proximity Sensor/ Air View options from settings. -No Help
Changing ROM doesn't show the Black screen but somehow the sceen gets locked randomly.
Screen/ Motherboard replacement - No Help
Fix:
VERY Simple..
Open your back cover. On the back side, there is a screw just near the Volume Down Button (named L1). Seems this screw gets magnetized somehow in the viscinity of the magnetometer.
Try the one that works for you:-
1. Open the screw, then insert it back but keep it loose. Dont make it too tight. Test and see if it works for you.
2. If the above doesnt work, open the screw completely and dont insert it back. In its place you can try to insert a brass screw if you have or else keep it like that. Test if this works.
3. Still not working? Open all the screws, open the body. Put back the body, insert all the screws just not the L1 one. Dont make the other ones too tight. Test now.
Trust me I have tried everything, none worked. I didnt want to go to Samsung Service centre, so thats your wish. But some users reported they were of no help. Mine worked flawlessly in the last step and seems the issue is gone. So gove it a try and press thanks if I have helped you.
