Lost my android desktop - General Questions and Answers

Hi, yesterday I installed link2sd app and removed an app called Samsung homepage or something like that. That app is the desktop of my mobile.
Now I can't go to menus, or my desktop... Well, now I can't do anything!! How can i solve this problem?
My device is SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5893i.
I thought in reset/re-install the firmeware, but i don't know how...

Do a factory reset. You can find how to do it on youtube. I can't post the link to the video, yet.
It tells you how to do it, step by step.

[Q] questions about root

I've been reading here at XDA, I can find the instructions - no problem.
However, in the WIKI there are a few things I don't understand.
The problem also is that all the posts assume you know what's going on and they start in the middle of a thread.
Then there's advice to use Odin, not to use Odin, use this, don't use this.
Some say unmount the SD card, some make no mention of SD card.
Then there's different backups. I've seen Titanium mentioned.
There's advice to get the latest drivers from Samsung - The phone isn't even in the dropdown list of phones, and the letters for the model don't match.
There's the custom ROM advice. Since there aren't many for this phone as yet - and all you want to do is remove crap, what do you look for?
I have to get rid of that stupid Doubletwist and airsync before I toss the phone!
Z
It is rather confusing isn't it...
In a simple answer....
Find the SuperOneClick zip file in one of those threads in the Dev forum & root the phone. Then go get TitaniumBackup ( Pro Recommended ) & you can remove the bloatware. I'd recommend the Pro Version so you can freez the apps you don't delete.
That's what i did on my SGS4G ( and i am not a experianced modder myself )
One problem. I downloaded superoneclick and NET can't find the runtime file.
I'm using XP and ver 4 of NET. I turned off NOD32 and Online Armor.

Uninstalled NET 4 and put in 3. I can open the file, but NOD32 keeps quarantining RAGE. Says it's a trojan.
I don't really want a custom ROM - but would like some more information on Titanium Backup. The Market won't download to the phone, but going to the market on the phone will let me download.
Thanks,
Zuben

Let it scrub the RAGE file, you need the other one actually to make it work
Which one? PSneuter?
Also some confusion about the Samsung driver. I also have a Galaxy 3. I downloaded Kies and the driver. I downloaded the new driver (did not install it)and stuck it in a folder named Samsung on the Desktop. Kies is in the Samsung folder in programs and I assume that the original driver is in there, too. The driver is listed in Add/Remove programs.
I can either delete Kies or rename that file to something else, and stop Kies from running. So there's 2 drivers, and I suspect they are the same.
Since I can't send a download from the Market on the PC to the phone, I have to download from Market on the phone. I can't install Titanium unless I root, but can I get to Titanium from the phone if I do root?
Thanks

I use linux... so i have no idea what Kies is or does..

So which phone are you trying to Root? Samsung Galaxy 3 or Samsung Galaxy S 4G? If your rooting the S 4G you can find the drivers here http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...728034640796/SGH-t959_Vibrant_USB_Drivers.zip
I have no experience with rooting with XP but I assume it would be essentially the same steps.
If your looking to do stuff on your Galaxy 3 then please go to this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=868
and do your research over there.
It’s not that difficult to root the SGS 4G Phone. The first thing you need to do is make sure your phone is communicating with your computer. Install the Samsung USB drivers.(make sure you have the right drivers for your O.S. either 32bit or 64bit) In your phone go into Settings/Applications/Development and make sure you check “USB debugging”. Connect your Tethering cable to your phone. On your home screen you should see “USB Connected” popup on top of your screen. You should be able to press USB connected button from the drop-down menu on the home screen and see the external SD card on the computer now. If that works then Turn off USB storage. (leave “USB debugging” checked) Open NOD32 application from your system tray. Go to Settings and select “Temporarily disable antivirus,” put your password in if prompted. Then Download SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse, expand the file and go to SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse Directory. Run the SuperOneClick App. When it opens don’t change anything and just click “Root” and let it run. It should say rooted when done. Then go to the Market on your phone and get Titanium Backup and install it. It will ask for SuperUser permission and accept that on your phone. If that fails press “Problems” button, Then “Get Busybox”. Install the new Busybox. You may have to close and reopen Titanium Backup again. I would say to download and install ClockworkMod after rooting and before getting Titanium Backup, Except ClockworkMod currently does not work for the SGS 4G Yet. So, skip that step for now. You should be able to backup your phone after this.

This is good information, but what about for Mac users? I was previously able to root my Samsung Vibrant just by installing the update.zip file via CWM. Should Mac users wait for this course or can we make it happen now?
Also, what's the benefit of rooting right now? Just to remove bloatware? There's no custom roms yet, right?
Look at the Unix instructions about associating the USB ID with the Mac. I haven't tried it, but I suspect that is the missing step.
Update: Nope -- According to Google, http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html#setting-up
Setup your system to detect your device.
* If you're developing on Windows, you need to install a USB driver for adb. If you're using an Android Developer Phone (ADP), Nexus One, or Nexus S, see the Google Windows USB Driver. Otherwise, you can find a link to the appropriate OEM driver in the OEM USB Drivers document.
* If you're developing on Mac OS X, it just works. Skip this step.
* If you're developing on Ubuntu Linux, you need to add a rules file...

I'm wanting to root the 4G. The Galaxy3 was bought unlocked so it doesn't have the crap on it. Like I said, the ROM seems to be ok, it's just the stupid bloatware.

[Q] Device ID Help

Is there any way to get my NT's Device ID without using the app in the Android Market?
My NT is unrooted and I've been happily sideloading apps using ADB. I've never had access to the Android Market, but was going to set my Chrome browser up to so that I could download to my computer. I need the Device ID for that. All the searching I've done has told me to download the app from the Android Market to get it, but that's obviously a problem for me since I can't download from the market yet. Is there another app somewhere that would do this or some other method that I'm missing that doesn't involve using the market. ADB gives a 16 digit Device ID, but I don't believe that's the right one. Any help would be appreciated and rooting is not an option for me right now. Thanks.
Not sure what your 'NT' is.
These instructions don't work?
http://codekiem.com/2012/02/24/apk-downloader/
(difficult way)
I'm sorry, my NT is a Nook Tablet. I really meant to post in that section, but had a few to many windows open on the computer and I accidentally posted in the basic Q&A section. Total newb mistake.
Those are the instruction I'm following basically, but I don't believe I can use the "difficult way" since it's not a phone.

[Q] Problems with M755 Kid

Hello,
I bought for my kid Q-MAX (unknown brand) M755 KID tablet. It seams to be the same as the one by the Beneve brand.
1. Google Play starts with the window "no connection". I tried removing cache, installing new one from the apk, changing the date and time, location, but nothing works.
2. Then I found solution that requires root. I tried towelroot but it does not work on the device. For another rooting methods, I need to enable USB debugging and root it from PC. I have found oneclickroot.
3. Unfortunately, Windows does not recognize my tablet. It displays that it is M755 KID (i can transfer files, but there is a yellow triangle with a ! in the device manager).
I even tried factory reset (I added my account several times), but that does not work either.
Help? I do not know where to go next.

Yellow triangle in device manager, means drivers are not installed, could try installing generic adb drivers
see [Guide] Install drivers for any device using Pdanet by droidiser
Universal Naked Driver Solves Your ADB Driver Problems on Windows
There are several root methods here. http://www.xda-developers.com/root/
Google Play starts with the window "no connection". Check time zone, time and date.
Because there is not a specific forum for your device, this thread will be moved to general/help
I did manage to install the drivers in the meantime. It has rockchip chip, so somebody here: arctablet.com/blog/forum/firmware-development/rockchip-released-an-easy-driver-installer/[/url] gave the link to the drivers that work. Generic drivers don't.
I tried framaroot, oneclickroot, kinga root, towelroot and some more, all without success.
I did set date and time and time zone, but that does nothing. Automatic or manual, clearing cache...nothing - no connection.
The solution I have found is to write into hosts file: 127.0.0.1 localhost, but when I read that file, it has exactly that in it, so that does not work either. Maybe if I would delete the file, but I cannot gain root access.
So I am completely stuck.

Most android devices are rootable by one or both these options.
These are made by Chinese devs, not open source, so whether they are safe or not is Unknown.

How can I 'fix' root problem on galaxy note 10.1? (Gt n8010)

Hi, I rooted my galaxy note 10.1 a while back, and all worked perfectly. However, I recently wanted to update my tablet as some games started to require a newer version of android. I tried to unroot my device first using an app that claimed to easily unroot my device. After running the app, superuser was removed. However, my tablet would no longer connect to google play, and just kept saying unable to get a reliable connection. I downloaded the Root Checker app, and it said my tablet was still rooted. I tried to download a superuser apk but it would not work. I tried connecting to a pc to reroot all over again. The problem is, no PCs will recognise my device and so I cannot go through the rooting procedure. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate the help. Thank you very much.
Download the Samsung Drivers. Or use a different USB Slot that's what I did with my N8010. Or on you pc go to: Start Menu > Control Panel > Programs > and look for something called 'Samsung Mobile Drivers' or something by that name. Then uninstall the Drivers plug your N8010 back in and let it re download the drivers. Hope this helps

Connecting Nexus 7 To Windows 10 Laptop After Root

Hi there. I don't know if this the right place to ask my question but I couldn't find a section that seemed to fit my question. Sorry if it's the wrong place!
I have no experience with rooting devices but I wanted to try and install Android 7 on my Nexus 7 tablet so I watched a video on how to do it. I have successfully managed to install Android 7 and the tablet boots up and works fine but it refuses to connect to my PC.
I want to install the Google Play Store app but I can't get the apk file onto the tablet. I've tried e-mailing it to myself but the tablet won't save the file. What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks
Nicky

For the connecting to PC, it sounds to me like you're not opening USB options to enable MTP when you connect the device to PC.
As,for the app not saving from your email. Go to system settings>applications>(your email app), open the app info for your email app, then tap the permissions option, then enable permission to storage.
