[Q] Getting Back Into Rooting... - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have been out of the rooting scene for about 1.5 years now. I'm sure a lot of things have changed since then and I need a quick catch up. I wanted to see where I could find a rooting tutorial for the HTC One X (AT&T). I plan on using the stock HTC ROM with a rooted phone. I'm getting out of choosing a custom ROM and just want to stick with the HTC stock ROM for now.
Currently I have the following specs...
- Android Version: 4.0.3
- HTC Sense Version: 4.0
- Software Number: CleanROM Standard 2.2
- HTC SDK API Level: 4.11
- HTC Extension Version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_4
- Kernel Version: 3.0.8-01155-gca24d1e, [email protected] #1, SMP PREEMPT
- Baseband Version: 0.16.32.09.01_3_10.79.32.08L
- Build Number: 1.85.502.3_R2 CL63811 release-keys
- Browser Version: WebKit/534.30
A few big questions...
1) What is the latest OS for the HTC One X (AT&T)? Is 4.2.2 Out? Will it ever come out (if it's not already)?
2) Is there anything I should worry about losing in an upgrade to the latest OS?
3) Is there a thread to walk a user through the rooting process for my phone?
4) Should I worry about S-Off (not sure I use it now or will in the future)?
5) Should I worry about SuperCID (what is it used for)?
6) Is it possible to hack the WiFi tether so that it bypasses the carrier lock to provide free WiFi tether? (Like the hack for the Samsung Galaxy S4)

First we need your bootloader details, go into bootloader and post the first few lines. To get into bootloader, hold power and volume down at the same time, keep holding until it reaches bootloader.

Oh by the way, this should have been posted in the q&a section.

On it! Thanks for the quick reply btw.

Ok now I can answer your questions:
1) The latest official release is 4.1, but 4.2 is supposedly coming soon.
2) You needn't worry about losing any functionality.
3) This is the root method you should use for your firmware version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296
4) Once you have root s-off is a good idea, then you'll be able to RUU to the latest which is required for aosp ROMs.
5) Once you have root, you'll need to get SuperCID so you can unlock your bootloader at htcdev.
6) There are third party apps which can do WiFi tethering, or you can use a non-at&t ROM to bypass it.

By the way, here is the method to get SuperCID so you can unlock your bootloader:

You must get root first.

So this page is titled "[ROOT] 1.85 - New, working method - ACT NOW, MAY NOT LAST FOREVER!"
What is 1.85? That's not talking about the version of Android is it?
Also, do I still need to do this if my phone is already rooted?

No, that's your firmware version. Different root methods exist for different firmware versions, with each new release HTC usually plugs the exploit from the last version.

So is mine currently 1.09.0000?
And im guessing that 1.85 is the latest right?

Your hboot is 1.09 and your firmware version is 1.85

Ok so the build number is the firmware version right?
If that's true I don't get why I need to upgrade my firmware or re root for that matter. .. I'm a bit confused now. :l sorry for being so lost in all this. ..

Sorry I thought you looking for root because you asked for a rooting tutorial. You can just flash a stock ROM from the Android Development section.

For the record (please correct me if I'm wrong) I'm under the impression that a "ROM" is referring to the "OS" or Android installation that is currently on the phone. For example "ROM" could mean any of the three... 1) Stock install of HTCs 4.0.3 version of android 2) Stock install of HTCs 4.1 version of android 3) Custom install of CleanROM version 4.03 of android.
I just wanted to confirm that all I needed to do is update the ROM with the new stock ROM that's out (Android 4.1). Looking at all the forums I'm worried about updating the ROM due to issues with the security patches by HTC etc. I don't exactly understand the in's and out's of the rooting/unlocking/bootloaders/s-off/supercid process/apps but I do know the basics of how to root my phone when I get it from the store. My main concern is bricking my phone. So in saying that, you knowing what I currently have on my phone (what's installed and I'm running based on my previous posts and pictures). Do you think all I have to do now is just obtain the 4.2 HTC ROM and install it on top of what I have done? Do I need to re-root because of some HTC security patch? Also, is the HTC ROM (4.2) I'm looking for stock or a custom ROM? I'm guessing a custom one.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP!!!

Yeah a ROM is the OS for the phone, whether it be stock or custom. You won't lose root, your bootloader won't be locked, installing a ROM only touches that partition of the memory.
There is no official 4.2 ROM that's been released by HTC yet, there are plenty of 4.2 aosp ROMs available though. Just to be clear, only ever download ROMs from XDA, and more specifically, from within this forum you're posting in.
To make it easier...
In the Android Development section you'll find stock and custom Sense ROMs. These only go up to Android 4.1 version.
In the Original Android Development section you'll find the aosp ROMs. These go right up to Android 4.2 and even 4.3 versions.

That was a perfect way to sum it up! I guess the route I prefure to take is the pure android. ;] So at this point do I need to do anything before installing my aosp rom?

In order to run the latest aosp ROMs you'll first need to update your hboot/firmware. And, in order to do that you'll first need to get s-off. And, in order to do that we first need to make sure you have SuperCID. This sounds like a lot but it's all relatively easy to do.
First things first. If you don't already have adb/fastboot installed on your pc you need to get that. And make sure you have the latest HTC drivers installed too. Once you've got all that put your phone in bootloader, connect to pc and wait for it to say fastboot usb on the phone display. Open a command prompt from within your fastboot folder. Now you want to give this command to make sure fastboot can see it properly:
Code:
fastboot devices
It should return your device serial number, if it doesn't your drivers are not right. If it does your can now enter this command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
If it returns your CID as 11111111 it means you have SuperCID, if not you'll have to get it by looking here.
Next is s-off which you can find here.
Once you have done that you can download the 3.18 RUU here. This is really easy to do, you just put your phone in bootloader, connect it, and run the exe program. Just make sure you don't have any other programs running, and make sure screen saver and hibernation are turned off.
Once the RUU is complete your phone will be completely stock, including recovery. So you'll need to install TWRP again. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone. And you're ready to flash whatever you want.

Everything worked great! I have everything updated and I'm now using HTC's latest version. So on to getting my AOSP ROM. Which one should I get? What's the most used/best out there? Is there a PURE Android release that has not been altered? Such as the one found on the latest Google phone (Nexus 4 - Running Android 4.2.2)?

Nothing is totally pure Android for this phone, but if you want the closest to stock either try CM10.1 (which is android 4.2.2) or CM10.2 (which is android 4.3). In my experience, CM10.2 is much more stable so I'd look there first. There's plenty out there to try!

Awesome
Asking which ROM is best/favorite is actually against the rules here on XDA so I can't really answer that, and it really comes down to personal preference.
But...
The closest to pure Android would be Cyanogenmod (cm10.1 = Android 4.2 and cm10.2 = Android 4.3), or AOKP. To be honest though all aosp ROMs are pretty much visually the same, they all look like stock Android. Other ROMs like Carbon, PAC, Rootbox, Slimbean all have the same pure Android look as Cyanogenmod and AOKP, but they have more customization features.
My suggestion would be to flash a few and see what you like best. Have fun!

Getting files on my SD card via fastboot
OK quick question. How would I get files on my sd card (cm-10.2-20130821-NIGHTLY-evita.zip) so that I can install the ROM?

Put your phone into recovery, connect to pc, select mount from recovery menu then mount usb storage. It'll show up on your pc as a removable drive so you can copy the ROM across.
One thing I forgot to mention is that you need to flash a gapps (Google apps) package zip directly after the ROM when using aosp. You can find the gapps package here, use the table at the top of the page to find the appropriate package for cm10.2.

Help with restoring back to stock???

Hey Guys!!!
I've been looking around for a straightforward tutorial on how to flash back to stock.
If anyone could point me to the right thread that would be helpful, I'd would just like to set everything back to normal since I need to send the phone back.
I just want to know what the process is, like 1. Relock Bootloader 2. Flash Stock T-Mobile ROM 3. Flash Stock Recovery, something to that effect, so if any of you can point me to the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys:fingers-crossed:
!!!!!!--UPDATE---!!!!!!!!
So it worked everyone like a charm, so much thanks to baseballfanz, jdizzle316, and Senzune
So here's the breakdown on what I did, and again !!! This is for TMOUS and I tested with the 1.84.531.2 software !!!!
1. Re-locked the bootloader
- You can use the All in one tool from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
- Or boot into fastboot and enter fastboot oem lock
2. Reboot the phone, check everything is ok
- no need to go back to bootloader or recovery
3. Boot back into bootloader
4. Go into fastboot
5. Run TMOUS RUU, go through the process and then just let it run, don't touch anything
- I found it from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744177&page=3
- If anyone needs another dropbox link let me know
6. Once it's all set you'll be back in the bootloader and all you have to do is just reboot the phone
And again thanks everyone for the help :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Are you on stock but rooted ROM or a custom ROM?

I'm on Trickdroid like you are it seems, so I think that's considered custom no?
Just lock the bootloader and run the T mobile RUU
Use the all in one root kit in order to lock your bootloader(this can be found in the development section)
Once you bootloader is locked, download the TMOUS RUU, also found in the development section. This is an exe file you run on your pc.
Boot your phone into bootloader, then choose fast boot. Attach your phone to the USB connected to your PC and then run the ruu and from then it will take your device to completely stock.

Ok great
Now not sure if either you or baseballfanz have read anything about this on the forums, but I've downloaded both:
- RUU_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.53.531.16_Radio_0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L_release_262073_signed

You need to check in your settings which one applies to your device - at least I hope that's the way to decide which one to use. I have an RUU downloaded myself, just incase I ever do decide to get a custom ROM (waiting for a JB one which actually works). I found the proper one by checking which one has the same Baseband version, which in the stock ROM is found under About > Software information > More.
Since you seem to be on a TMOUS version of the One S, I believe it to be highly likely the 1.84 one is the way to go, as most updated to that version, including custom ROMs. You'd have to check that at Software number, I believe, if that's not altered by the custom ROM.

What exactly is involved in installing a custom ROM on a stock Sensation?

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a noob but I'm completely new to the idea of installing custom ROMs so was wondering if someone wouldn't mind explaing what exactly is involved in installing a custom ROM (bruce2728's CM10 ROM) onto a completely stock HTC Sensation?
So far from everything I've read I need to root and S-OFF my phone as well as unlock the bootloader and back up the stock ROM (for warranty purposes) before I'm able to install a new ROM. Am I missing anything here?
So far I've tried to unlock the bootloader but can't even download the software from htcdev.com because the website keeps logging me out as soon as I log in...
Anyway I've read through a few forums and articles on how the whole process works but I'm finding it very confusing because there seems to be multiple ways of doing each part and the files you seem to need vary depending on exactly which version of the Sensation you have.
Anyway if someone wouldn't mind explaining each step or linking me to somewhere that does I would greatly appreciate it
In terms of which model of Sensation I have, HTC have told me that its an open version handset thats been customized in France if that makes any difference. And here's my current software info:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense Version: 3.6
Software number: 3.33.401.6
Kernel version: 3.0.16-g31a4fc7 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT

Hi,
There is an huge amount of good information in my sig(☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺)
My suggestion would be :
ganesh or kgs for root and s-off
You have 3.33 firmware,so you would then be good to go.
Thanks for the info
So if I follow the steps on this page I will have S-OFF, unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device so all I would have left to do would be to install the actual ROM correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
And if so what is the best way to go about installing the ROM afterwards?
EDIT: After reading through that page again I realized that there seem to be two completely different tools, you can use. Do you have to use both of them or just one?
i.e. could I just use the 'new one click root tool' on my phone while its completely stock then would I be able to install a new ROM on straight after?

Hi,
I gave you 2 guides for you to choose from.
The one you chose is from ganesh, and if you follow all of that, then, that is all you have to do.
Once you are rooted and s-0ff,then,just place the ROM of your choice on the sd card ,choose it in recovery and run it.
I forgot to mention the custom recovery.
In the list of guides I gave you, look for one by joaquinf.
In that thread you will find 3 methods to install 4EXT recovery.
again choose the best method for you and install it.
then, you will be good to go.

Do you have to use both of them or just one?
i.e. could I just use the 'new one click root tool' on my phone while its completely stock then would I be able to install a new ROM on straight after?

hmm it seems you are getting confused with some terms ..ill try to explain them briefly
ROOT: its a feature of ROM ..when you have root ..you can completely control the ROM ..you can remove even system apps (the apps that came by default) and change internal stuff
SOFF: it unlocks the complete internal partition of sensation ..that means you can modify any thing anywhere ...thus you can install custom roms, custom recoveries, bootloader, radio etc etc
HTC-DEV: its a feature provided by HTC ..which unlocks some partitions which are quite enough for installing custom roms and custom recoveries ..but during custom rom installations you need to do couple of extra steps to get it completely working
now ..by default all partitions of internal memory are locked .. thus to ROOT your phone ..we need to have unlocked system partition ..which can be attained by HTC-DEV unlock or SOFF (so the one click root requires either of them as per-requisite)
now if you want to decide what to do ..do check this post
Ok so I started using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
And I got to the point just after where you have to do the wire trick. Now in the cmd screen I just get a message saying "open device manager and check adb and/or fastboot drivers!! Resetting connection....1.....2...." Over and over...
Any ideas as to what I've done wrong? I made sure that the HTC drivers were installed before I started the process
Ahhh crap. After having a look around the forums and on youtube etc as well as trying to install adb through the android SDK and still not having any luck (the ControlBear program ended up freezing aswell) I decided to close the ControlBear program but now whenever I try starting my phone it just loads into a black screen with the menu bar... I hope I haven't completely ruined my phone...
Nevermind, I finally manged to get it S-OFF and rooted
I managed to do a factory reset which enabled me to use my phone properly again so then I restarted the S-OFF process again after rebooting my computer and what do ya know, it works!
Thanks so much guys
Now I just need to work out how to get 4EXT working and then install CM10

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a noob but I'm completely new to the idea of installing custom ROMs so was wondering if someone wouldn't mind explaing what exactly is involved in installing a custom ROM (bruce2728's CM10 ROM) onto a completely stock HTC Sensation?
Baseband version: 11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M
Build number: 3.33.401.6 CL391535 release-keys
Browser version: WebKit/534.30

For me, coming from Stock 2.3.3 ROM w/ 2.6... firmware:
I had to Root and S-OFF: Simple enough, I used the Revolutionary tool.
Install a recovery program: Once again, simple enough, you can download ClockworkMod Recovery from the Play Store and it will install it.
IMPORTANT: I originally didn't know I had to update Firmware to a newer one. I tried installing the ROM with 2.6.... and it just bootlooped after language selection. Make sure your firmware is adaquate.
Make a backup (if you want)
Then install the ROM and GApps if needed!

[Q] AT&T HTC One X(L) HBOOT and CyanogenMod

So I'm probably asking a question that's been asked many times before.. I have the dreaded HTC One X from AT&T. I keep getting references toward the XL, and mine seems to fit the profile as a dual core LTE phone. Anyways, I am dealing with CWS_001 CID and HBOOT 1.14 and would like to upgrade my OS to either stock Jelly Bean or CyanogenMod (this would be my preference) or if someone has a BETTER suggestion than I am open to a better mod. I have seen a few really catchy ones like MAXIMUS that I wanted to try. I have achieved unlocking, rooting, and S-OFF on this device already. After those processes.. my phone downloaded a large system update from AT&T which was Jelly Bean. It will not allow it to install. I presume this is because my device isn't actually approved for that update and something I did in this whole process triggered the server into believing I should have gotten it..
So is there a way for me to update my HBOOT for CyanogenMod or some other form of an upgraded version of Android?
I am currently running:
Android Version 4.0.4
Sense Version 4.0
Software Number 2.20.502.7.710RD
SDK API Level 4.23
Kernel 3.0.8-01558
Anyone out there able to point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I originally started with TWRP as I had used the all in one tool for alot of the process. I then performed the the S-OFF and just now flashed Clockwork because I had read of others with TWRP 2.5 issues installing ROMs. Even in clockwork I can't install the Jelly Bean update on my ICS phone so I'm assuming there is a step I don't know of and cannot find anything for it. Thanks for responding!

You need stock recovery to allow the installation of an OTA. It can be extracted from an OTA zip file.
In short, since you are S-OFF.
1. Flash 3.18 ATT RUU.
2. Flash recovery. I have always used TWRP and had good luck.
3. Save latest CM 10.1 (or other ROM) to your SDCARD.
4. Boot to recovery and flash ROM.
5. Profit!
Thanks alot, to both of you!
I used the RUU and after a few small errors was in fact able to update to HBOOT 2.14 and Android Jelly Bean. The rest should be a cake walk. I'm truly appreciative of how quickly and intelligently you guys helped me out. Thanks again.
Just wanted to thank you guys again.
Over the past 3 days, I have made a successful transition from a crummy stock device on an outdated Android 4.0.4 OS to ViperXL 3.2.8 with the latest ElementalX kernel and I could not be happier.
Could not have done it without you folks!

[Q] i want to update my at&t htc one x

I have my at&t htc one x on 4.0.4, bootloader locked, hboot 1.14.0002 S-on
evita pvt ship. i bought from amazon used, how can i update from 4.0.4 to a higher firmware and if i try use software update it searches for a bit then i get error what can i do?
Do you want to stay stock or install custom ROMs? The two processes will be very different so I need to know which way you want to go before advising you.

Also, do you have adb/fastboot installed on your PC? If not you're going to need that, Google search "xda minimal adb and fastboot" and the first result should be a thread that details how to install it easily.

If you want to update to the latest "official" firmware, you can download the RUU at the following webpage, and follow the directions where it says "Manual system update instructions":
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/news/
This will update you to Jellybean 4.1.1, which is the latest that has been released for the AT&T version.
Be aware this will wipe any date on the phone, so backup anything you want to keep.
EDIT: As timmaaa advised below, CID needs to be verified before running the above RUU. If SuperCID is present with s-on, running the RUU will brick the device.
Hang on, we need to check his SuperCID status before he runs a jb RUU, the phone is used. We don't want a brick on our hands.

Very true. I assumed that since the phone is still bootloader LOCKED, that its bone stock (I also missed the word "used" when I read the OP). But its possible the previous owner changed the CID, but either botched the BL unlocking or didn't get that far.
I've edited my previous post accordingly, to make sure the OP doesn't damage his phone.
Yeah, previous owner could have also spoofed the bootloader text to say locked instead of relocked.
OP, get adb/organised as per my first reply and then we can check out your situation before proceeding.

Huh? That makes absolutely no sense. If you want help please do the following:
1- Don't hijack this thread, we're already helping someone else here. Please repost your question in my q&a thread.
2- Tell me exactly what you want to achieve.
3- Tell me your bootloader details.
4- Tell me any other relevant information.
5- Do all this in clear and legible English, and be specific.
PS. There are no such things as a 'sid lock' or 'sloff', as I've said above please post in clear English using terms that actually exist.

ok im going to try super cid do i need to root my phone 1st and i want stock unless custom is more better and stable.
Stock ROM is stable but so are custom ROMs, plus you get better features with custom ROMs. Before you do anything though you need to decide whether you want to use a stock ROM or a custom ROM. The two processes will vary greatly. Have you installed adb/fastboot like I suggested earlier?

no i didnt get get adb or fastboot i dont know were to get it and ok i'll do custom rom.
ok im roothing and it says * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

i was using a one click rooting software i deleted it i now have
onexrootattnew.zip but that doesnt want to root it either really and truly i jus wanted to update my software cuz my phone wifi range is seriously low to the point that i have to be right new to a router or 5ft away to catch signal and my bluetooth range basically is 1ft so i wanted to update to fix my problem
There's only one way you can get root. The first thing you need to do is stop getting information from other sites, they don't properly distinguish between firmware versions, and even phone models. Everything you need is here on XDA, it's the only comprehensive Android modification site available.
Click the Everything Evita link in my signature and bookmark that thread, everything you need is compiled in that thread. In that thread navigate to the root section, find the 2.20 root method. Follow the instructions in that thread and you'll have SuperCID. Then you can go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader. Once you have an unlocked bootloader you can install Superuser to root your current ROM, or you can install a custom ROM. If you need help installing a recovery or ROM just click the How-To Guide For Beginners link in my signature.

thanks man i will try it out will get back to u by 2morrow.
my bootloader is unlocked so i can get any custom rom?
Technically, yes. But your phone still needs some updating before you can stay on a custom ROM. Your steps will be as follows:
1. Install TWRP recovery.
2. Install root via SuperSU.
3. Get s-off via Facepalm.
4. Run the 3.18 RUU (this returns your phone to stock but it's essential because this is the step that updates everything)
5. Install TWRP recovery again (official TWRP 2.6 for Sense 5 ROMs and aosp ROMs lower than 4.4, or modified TWRP 2.6.3.0 for 4.4 aosp ROMs).
6. Update firmware via 2.15 firmware package (this step is only necessary if you're planning on installing a Sense 5 ROM). You'll find it in the first post of this thread along with instructions.
7. Install whatever ROM you like.
8. Enjoy.
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

ok ill let u know when im done
Have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature for detailed instructions on some of those processes.

Just uninstall whichever root app is present on the ROM (Superuser or SuperSU), voila, you're 100% stock.

thankx
thanks for your help but I guess I won't be able to installed ota anymore? though I don't think there be any coming to the phone anymore
Why do you think that? If the phone has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery (which you'd need to flash a nand) you shouldn't take an OTA anyway. If you want to go completely back to stock you need to get s-off so you can run the last Telstra RUU (1.89 I think), lock your bootloader, and take every OTA to get back up to date.

my mobile data wont work
Hi,
so after weeks and days of suffering and trying to install any rom on my HTC One XL only telestra works, even CM wont boot I get into boot looping...
So after I installed telestra my mobile data wont work, I tried on my own find out what is the problem, even I tried to downgrade my phone to froyo so I can install RUU and I couldn't downgrade because adb wont push file to my device one file go through and the other won't... It's says permission denied.
I am here asking for you help please I am so desperate, I am trying to do this all by own so I don't need to pay 20 euros to some services.
I am looking for how to fix this mobile data problem and why I am getting permission denied in adb push file, I was following this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904

Hang on...
Firstly, you tried to downgrade the phone to Froyo? This device has never had Froyo on it, the earliest version of Android that it came with was Ice Cream Sandwich. So what on earth did you try to flash to your device??
Secondly, the other thread that you link to isn't for this phone, it's for the HTC Droid Incredible.
Mate, it seems as if you've been attempting to flash firmwares and exploits from other devices onto this phone, it's a wonder you haven't bricked the thing! ROMs, kernels, radios, firmwares, exploits, etc, are only compatible for the device that they were developed for, they're not interchangeable. This is our device section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
Do not, under any circumstances, wander outside of that section and its sub-forums for anything or it's only a matter of time before you have an expensive paperweight.
Now, what recovery do you have on the phone?
PS. You should edit that image asap, it shows your IMEI, that's something you should never post publicly.
Ty for help and your time first.
I edited photo in paint but you need to edit your post too because picture is still there.
My phone is HTC One XL, xda wont accept this when I enter my device.
Well it's a wonder I didn't throw my phone into the wall.
So everything was fine on this phone until battery started to dry out fast, it's started to lag and everything was slow, clean master, battery doctor didn't help, factory reset few times didn't help.
Then I tried to install CM with this instructions ( I can't link it but when you enter in Google how to install CM on HTC One XL it will pop out wiki ) but my phone wouldn't boot any CM for my phone known as "evita", it would stuck at boot looping.
I have access to recovery. bootloader, fastboot and everything so still it isn't a brick.
I have this recovery img TWRP 2.7.0.8. but if needed I can change it into ClockworkMod 6.0.4.8.
I don't have many experiences in rooting android but I learned some basic commands in cmd with fastboot and adb.

I've edited the image out of my post. Your phone probably boot looped after installing CM because you didn't flash the boot.img via fastboot afterwards, am I right? Because you're s-on and have firmware equal to or higher than 1.14 your phone can't flash the boot.img during a ROM flash in recovery, this means you need to do it manually with fastboot after flashing the ROM. I have detailed instructions in my guide thread (link in my signature).
You need to run an RUU which will take the device back to stock and hopefully clear up the issues you've been facing. In order to run an RUU you first need to get s-off (and SuperCID if you don't already have it). In order to get s-off you need to first flash the Kickdroid 5.0 ROM (Rumrunner s-off has the highest success rate on this ROM).
1. Flash Kickdroid (don't forget to flag the boot.img afterwards too).
2. Go to the Rumrunner site and get s-off.
3. Check your CID:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
3b. If it's anything other than 11111111 you need to change it:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
4. You can now run whatever Evita RUU you want, and leave the device stock for a couple of days to see if your problems persist. What variant is the phone? At&t? Rogers? Telstra? Hong Kong?
Transmitted via Bacon
I did everything what it's says on rumrunner s-off page before I tried to install CM
well I would link to you what steps I was following but I am junior member so I can't, as I said write in google how to install cm on htc one xl and you will get wiki page and there will be steps which I followed.
How could I install then telestra if I didn't was s-off?
I am very tired now but I will answer to you some basic question you asked.
I am on vodafone variant or in my country (Croatia) it's vip, so when I get some sleep I need to install Kickdroid (well in the morning I guess I would figure out what flag the boot.img mean), and after Kickdroid I can install any RUU I want but need one for vodafone am I right? something like this? RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_Vodafone_CH-DE_2.41.166.1_Radio_0.20os.32.09.10_2_10.113.32.28L_release_280222_signed
I found that on this page AndroidRUU, and when I bought my phone it was on German lang.
And if I manage to install Kickdroid and then RUU I will try to give a chance and see if it work normally but if not I can install again Kickdroid and have that rom? And I can install some kernel but for now I don't know what kernel is and I don't understand do I need to install kernel or not? Oh man ty for your time and explanation I need to take some time and to figure all of this and to install properly .
Forget about whatever you did or didn't do in the past, it didn't work and there's no point wondering why right now because I've laid out a plan for you to move forward. Install Kickdroid, get s-off with Rumrunner, and run an RUU. You don't necessarily have to run a Vodafone RUU, you can run any Evita RUU, but yes the one you mentioned is compatible. You absolutely must get s-off before running any RUU though or you will brick the phone. Follow the steps I mentioned before exactly and you should be ok.
Just realised I missed some of your questions. If you want use Kickdroid as your ROM you definitely can, it's a very good ROM. It's a bit hard to describe what a kernel is briefly, but put simply it's a separate level of firmware that controls how the software or OS (and you) interacts with with hardware. You don't need to flash a kernel, every ROM zip contains a kernel already, otherwise the phone wouldn't operate, it wouldn't even boot up. There are custom kernels available that allow a bit of extra tweaking, like overclocking (or underclocking) the CPU, undervolting, sound tweaks, and various other much more complicated tweaks.

Language
Hello how to add the Russian language in the system??? Maybe they cut. If there is a rom with a full range of languages and the last update, I need a rom without mods!
