[Q] Phone won't boot pass cyanogenmod logo screen - HTC Sensation

I was trying to add and remove some files in the fonts section of my phone. I replaced a file from a file that was online and put the original file into my sd card then changed the new file's permissions, then I rebooted my phone... It won't go pass the cyanogenmod logo and I would like to know if I can somehow go thru recovery mode, find those files and change them back?
If I can't what are my options?
Please help!

Thank u for your quick reply...
I'm new to this but, re-flashing will wipe everything in my phone besides the sd card right?
If so, I would like to avoid that if i can... as I do not have a back up of my contacts and a few other things that maybe automatically saved onto the phone's internal memory. Is there any other way?
Thanks!

Hi,
Flash the ROM again without wipe.
This will only put back all the system files and the ones you deleted.
Your apps, settings and data will be untouched.

Telepathically, haha cool....
Ok I don't have the sd card with the original cyanogenmod 9 ROM zip file i used but, would either of these work properly?

Or do I need to do more digging as to which one is the right one?
Thanks

Hi,
It is important to find the original ROM.
If you use a different ROM there may be a risk of wiping your data and settings.
Using the original ROM will make sure everything stays as it is.
Check in about phone.
It should tell you the ROM build number.

I would like to look into the about section of the phone but since it will not go pass the CM logo I dont know how, unless there is another way.
However, I did notice the CM logo says cyanogenmod 9 when it stops booting up. Does anyone know if the 9.0 & the 9.1 logo looks exactly the same or the shown 9.0 is the ticket?
Thanks.

Something to ponder over: Do a full nandroid backup.
Pickup any CM version higher than the one you had (10/10.1/10.2).
Flash it over your previous installation without wipe.
This way if it does delete your data, you can alwasy go back. Otherwise you have a better os. Win win.

I was thinking the sammmme thing! Ha! This might be a good time to back up my stuff and to learn how to do a nandroid backup as well.... And possibly have a better OS. Like u said, win win.
If I have any probs I will be back.
Oh yea question, I'm unclear about the firmware and kernel. Wouldn't that need to be matched up or updated with the newer CM version?
Thanks.

You have s-off and the latest hboot.
So, you should be fine to install any CM 10

Ok cool, thanks.
I took a nandroid backup on recovery mode.
Looks like CM 10.1.2, jellybean 4.2.2 is going to be my choice. I hope this work! :good:
I found this thread that says I will need to flash gapps and Goo.im repo too, do I need both?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115520
Thanx
[edit]
Nevermind after reading 15 pages on that thread I found the answer on the second post of this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181751
Looks like I don't need gapps or that other one since I'm updating from the same base.

Thank you everybody for your help! The upgrading to CM10 worked and I didn't lose a thing. I had to change my apn setting because my Internet/data and mms wasnt working, and had to delete & reinstall a few apps because of the "unfortunately <app> has stop working" error kept popping up.... Other than that, everything so far is good. I pressed the thanks button for each of you.

[Q] recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation link not working

Hi there,
I am working through the Guide to Unlocking your Sensation and the link to recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation is not working.
Is there another place I can download the file?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lizzie.
Edit:
Looks like someone updated the MultiUpload Link. Thanks guys!
You may download it from here: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/ Just search for ....pyramid.img and flash from fastboot.
But I suggest you to get the latest v 5.0.2.0. Works fine in every aspect.

Make sure you are connected to the internet via mobile or wifi. Then go to Rom manager. Open the app and press Flash ClockworkMod recovery and the bottom should list your old one and the phone will flash the new one automagically

Edit : WrongForum ....
may i ask how to flash the .img file?
I'm using the guide to S-OFF etc...
It states to use recovery v5.0.0.8.
A file called PG58IMG, I cant find this, I've S-OFF'd and I'm looking to update and then use recovery.
What's the best file? Does it need to be the Zip file?

I have uploaded CWM 5.0.2.0 here: http://www.axifile.com/en/EC384AC809
MD5: 85b5f10c9afe33fb50396bd5f54bc7de
I just flashed it on my phone and it seemed to work fine, I was on 5.0.2.0 and still am ;-)
I uploaded and downloaded it and it's the same MD5 as the one on my phone that worked.
Just rename to PG58IMG.zip boot up from scratch (Power and Vol -), vol + to flash. When it wants to reboot after flashing pop the SD-card out and rename it after booting.
I came across this, it might be abit outdated but I'm guessing it'll work fine.

Will all my data be on the phone?
I guess by checking System settings etc I can see if it's worked.

If you're changing ROMs did you Superwipe before flashing?
If you Superwipe all data/apps on the phone will be zapped, the SD card should remain intact.

Erm, I've only gone from stock to ARHD 4.1.13 so far...
All I did was S-OFF, CWM Recovery and flash the ROM on.
I haven't done anything else yet.

Yes, that was my exact feeling. I mean if you get a brand new £250 phone, then your not going to mess around with it, are you? No. You are going to try and get the prefect amount of information and clarity so you know you won't mess up.

In the ARHD (mike's) thread there is a SuperWipe script in the downloads. Use that when changing between ROM flavours, or if recommended by the dev when changing versions. E.g., VI from 2.0.0 -> 3.0.0 required a SuperWipe.
MAKE sure you take regular Nandroid backups before/after you changing anything.

That's precisely it, I've had my Sensation for a while now and want to get the full user-experience from it. I know it is irritating for you guys to have to answer the same Q&A's over and over again, I did try reading everything but with so many answers and so many flavours it's a bit overwhelming.
I might write a guide from a noobs perspective (for noobs) on what to do...

Oh right ok, well I've been advised to change my recovery to EXT4, which I'll do tomorrow. Nandroid backups, is that when I go into HBOOT and choose Recovery? That's a good idea. So when I do go to update my ROM to ARHD 6.xxx for ICS I'll use Superwipe to clear out my app etc... So by using recovery I'll keep my app data/saves etc?

Do you have a backup of your previous version?
If yes restore it and check if it works, otherwise download a previous version, wipe all partitions and flash it. Report back what happens.
As a sidenote, it's an unwritten law (to be honest it is written hunders of times inside the general section) to never pull the battery, before try press and hold vol+ and vol- and push the powerbutton till it reboots, just as a hint for next time.

Ans : You pulled the battery.
Can you connect to adb? If you can, read the following guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284196
Post the result of the output after you enter while booted into recovery
Code:
adb shell
dmesg | grep mmc0
Paste a screenshot of the result. We'll know then, whether your eMMC survived the battery pull, or succumbed to it.
Fingers crossed!!

Well, I've read it of course and followed.
amidabuddha says in this guide, that only one of the methods should be applied.
So, firstly I managed to restore from backup.
wipe cache is working as well...
"If the size of the partition says <null>..." Mine isn't - shall I do this anyway?
4EXT recovery says: cache fs:ext3 size:300MiB free:232.1MB
And - shall I try the method 3 with Factory Reset - will it give some more advantages?
_______
Done the factrory reset, after that cache is free: 265.4MB

If you can enter recovery, do a full factory reset, cache and dalvik wipe, and try flashing a new ROM. Try Reaper or Endymion. See if that helps you boot up.
P.S : Are you Revolutionart s-off or HTCdev Unlocked? ('coz you'll have to flash the boot.img separately in case its the latter) Can you post the details you see on the bootloader screen?

Don't fool around just yet. If you're S-off, and running a custom ROM normally, you don't have to worry about what hboot you have right now. Just keep using your phone normally.
You're full of adrenaline right now... so you may be feeling a little adventurous, but close this thread, go have a drink, and forget about all this right now - there is no need for you to muck around with the hbbot. Come back to this later and read all guides you can to understand more about hboots, RUUs, misc_version, CID, goldcard etc. This will further your understanding of how things interplay with each other on our device.
Right now, you just need to celebrate.
No more dev today. Kapish?

Well, only a moderator can close a thread.
You can rename and edit the title easily though (One of the perks of being the OP!!). Go to the first post, and click on EDIT. When the edit window opens, there is an option at the bottom that says GO ADVANCED. Click on that. Now it will present you with the thread title as editable.. Add the prefix [SOLVED] before the title of your thread. Click SAVE CHANGES, and you're done!

[Q] AT&T One X Stuck In Endless Bootloop after Stock RUU Flash

Hi All,
I know this might sound like a redundant topic to you all (since there are many discussions about this on here) but after having gone to MANY threads on forums, MANY different websites and trying MANY different things to correct this, to no avail, i'm still stuck!!! :crying:
I am on Evita...running:

I've relocked the device, flashed stock RUU (via fastboot), erased the cache, factory reset, wiping from TWRP recovery.....NOTHING is working!
All the phone does is boot to the "HTC quietly brilliant" screen, hang for a few moments then restart.
Any help someone can provide, would be greatly appreciated! This is my kid's phone and he's bugging about wanting to get it back. Thanks!:good:

Hang on. You'll need to provide more information, saying you've tried many things could mean anything. What exactly have you tried with this phone? I'm assuming it has been unlocked and rooted in the past? Does it have SuperCID?
Also, you said you flashed an RUU via fastboot, but an RUU is an exe file which runs by itself so flashing via fastboot isn't correct. Where did you get this alleged RUU and how did you run it?
@ted77usa
Just wait a minute, we need to properly identify what has been done to this device before going any further.

Sorry, I didn't give full details. Yes, the phone has been rooted, unlocked and running CM10.1 fine for several months. All of a sudden, it got into this weird bootloop. So, I tried doing some of the tricks that people have posted about relocking the bootloader and flashing the stock rom via fastboot. That didn't work so I tried running the RUU...that didn't work. I went back in and tried a factory reset from the bootloader...nothing. I did a erase cache from fastboot and fastboot flashing the boot.img...still doing it. I went into TWRP recovery and wiping Delvik, Cache and Factory Reset....again, still stuck in bootloop.
Sorry to be lengthy but I'm trying to retrace as many steps as possible for you guys.
Ok, just to be clear, you ran the full RUU exe file?

Stupid question.....
I just had a thought. I have the same exact HOX as my son. It's rooted, unlocked and running same CM10.1 rom as his was and it's running fine. Could I try backing up from my phone's clean nandroid file? So, it ends up just acting as a mirror of my phone?
Yes, you can create a backup on your son's phone using TWRP, copy the backup to a pc, copy it to your phone, and restore the backup. Being that you're s-on though you'll need to manually flash the boot.img from that ROM using fastboot. Do you still have a copy of the ROM zip?

Yes, I do. I always keep a copy of the rom on my phone for emergencies. Now, the other question is, my phone is running 1.85. The messed up phone is running 2.20 (both S-ON). Will it not work or...coming from a nandroid backup, does that not matter? Never tried doing a mirror before...
The firmware version that either phone is on won't make a difference as the backup tool can't touch that partition.

So, I need to just make sure the phone is back to being rooted, unlocked and running TWRP, then mount it and load the nandroid to the SD card. Should I do backup from fastboot or TWRP?
Do you think it will throw it out of that bootloop? I've spent two days on this and I'm ready to be done!
Add long as you have TWRP installed it should work just fine. You have to do the backup using the backup tool in TWRP. When you create the backup on your son's phone you will find it on the sd card at TWRP/backups/serial number, you need to put it in the same file tree on your sd card.
Whether or not it's going to solve your problem I'm not sure, but anything is worth a shot.

Well, I've got the phone loading into TWRP 2.5.0.0 and when I try to do a wipe Delvik, Cache and Factory Reset...it's telling me it can't find the SD Card.
"E: Unable to mount '/sdcard'
E: Unable to mount storage"
Phone says it's still CID: 11111111
Bootloader: Unlocked.
Any clue how to get the phone to read/write to the SD Card so I can back up to a nandroid?
Did you mention doing a factory reset from bootloader? If so, you'd corrupted the sd card and you'll need to format it using Windows before you can use it. Also, you'll need to flash TWRP 2.6 because 2.5 is full of bugs.

I did! Thanks for remembering. :good:
Any special way I should format the sd card when I do it on Windows? Thanks for the tip on 2.6!
It should come up as fat32 as the default, if not just make sure you format it to fat32 and that's it. It'll probably take twenty minutes or so.

Got it! Flashed 2.6 in getting ready to back up from my phone's nandroid. Fingers crossed!:fingers-crossed:
After I back up from my nandroid in TWRP, should I flash the boot.img from fastboot?
Yes you'll need to flash the boot.img afterwards, good luck.

How can I get it to see my nandroid backup? I have it installed inside the TWRP folder just like it would be on my phone but when I go to Restore, it shows nothing on my sd card. wtf?? I think I'm getting one step closer and another hurdle arrises!! ugh...
Thanks for your help btw, timmaaa!! :good:

[Q] Oh no what have I done?!

Hi folks.
I'm in a tough situation with my sensation. Firstly I should mention that I am totally new to the cell modding scene and only heard of rooting, s-off etc a few days ago. Anyway, I was given this phone in a locked state and followed a guide on this site to root it and s-unlock it. All went well and I was able to unlock it so it would run on the network of my choice. Anyway the problem starts when I got a automatic update option to a newer version of software. I went with it and after installation I got stuck at the green on white "HTC" screen. At first I thought; "No worries,I'll just use the recovery feature to roll back to when I first installed". Whoops, no good! Entering recovery just sends me to a screen where the Android dude has a weird polygon spinning in front of him and then I get stuck at the HTC screen again. So I tried a factory reset and I get the same problem.
So basically I seem to be soft bricked with very limited options. I just want any form of android running again so if anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Let me know if you need any more details.

do you have a custom recovery installed?
flash 3.33 universal firmware from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
follow the instructions to the letter
and before flashing check md5 sums(important)
after that flash stock rom(if you want) or any custom rom custom recovery
for stock rom link in my signature
my thought is that the update installed ics rom but your hboot version is stiil on gingerbread
that's why your rom couldn't boot at all
also if you have custom recovery in any case the update would never applied

Hey man first of all, thanks for taking time to help
Umm yeah custom recovery... I wish I could give you a definitive answer but the truth is I did multiple mods to the phone that night and all of them were new to me. I was following a detailed guide from this (excellent) site and in the process have become pretty confused about what I actually did. EEP. I know, right!!!
Anyway onto the matter at hand, can you tell me how to check the md5 sums? I see the numbers and letters there but I'm not sure what to do with them.

since you can't boot to OS and check from there the md5 sums download md5 checker and install it to pc
with md5 checker choose the firmware.zip and it will display you a row of numbers and letters(md5 sums)
check it with the one from the download link and see if it matches
if it matches then it is good to install it
if it shows you a different md5 sums then redownload 3.33 universal

Its 2am here in New Zealand and i'm having trouble concentrating so I think i'll leave it for now and try again after a good sleep. Thanks for you help. I'll let you know how I get on :fingers-crossed:
Right so I tried those steps this morning and made some serious progress. The md5 sums checked out and I was able to install the new 3.33 firmware. I also have access to the recovery console again. The problem I'm having now is rather then getting stuck on the HTC screen when I boot up, I'm instead stuck in a boot loop where it gets to the HTC screen and starts again. I've tried clearing the cache and dalvik as suggested in that link but that didn't seem to make a difference.

don't worry just flash from recovery an ics or jb rom or even the flashable stock rom(link in my signature)

Ok thats done and seems to have worked. Is there a particular JB or ICS ROM I should be looking at? There seems to be a few options. I'm thinking of going with a ICS one simply because its newer. I was looking at this one ...

Do you think that would be suitable?

Ok I took your advice and went with viperS. Installed easy and no trouble booting. Only problem now is my prepaid simcard is causing it to crash. With simcard out I have no troubles but with simcard in, after I enter my sim pin, I get this message... "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". When I push ok the message disappears and reappears about a second later. Any ideas? We seem to be getting very close to full functionality again!!

Ok thank you. I had already tried wiping the cache and dalvik after reading about others having a similar problem. I'll try reloading the ROM after work though, Cheers.
Ok I wiped everything and downloaded and installed the ROM again after checking md5. Still the same problem though. I wiped the cache and dalvik again just in case but still coming up with the same issue. I read somewhere to clear the phone and sim cache under the app settings so I tried that too but still failure...Is it time to try a different ROM? If so could you recommend another good one please. It would be a shame though cos this viper one is really slick.

[Q] Help: stucked TAMPERED LOCKED S-ON

Hi guys, a few day ago my One SV had some problems, rebooting itself and runs very slowly; so i tryed to do something like root it, but not knowing what i'm doing 'cause i don't have much time.
Probably installing a wrong rom, now I'm stuck in the bootloader with S-ON Tampered, Locked, and Security Warning flags.
The phone stuck with htc logo, i only manage to go into bootloader, pdanet gives me sync error, twrp recovery doesn't work anymore.
Is there something I can do now?

As long as your device is Locked, you can't flash a custom recovery.
So unlock your device at htcdev.com, flash Twrp recovery and flash back a working rom.
Use a Android 4.1.2 rom, otherwise you will have problems with noisy sound.

How do you mount the sd?
At least pull it out of your device and put it into your PC and copy needed files in this way.
One thing i could not solve earlier (because of bad internet connection): did you already install the Android 4.2.2 update or what was your software running on your device before? Thats important to give you the right rom for your firmware!
I'll give you the links anyway:
4.1.2 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254384
4.2.2 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512742
Rumrunner & moonshine are confirmed working for your hboot, but which you should use at least also depends on your previous software.

Maybe it's a motherboard problem, what do you think?
Thanks

I don't know the name of the tool (i'm at work), but you will find it with google search, i think.
In recovery this is not a problem, its only to check on your pc, if the downloaded file is the same as the upload.
