I created a system with a data partition of only 300 MB, not thinking that I will use it so much, and now I want to increase the size to at least 1 GB. Is there any way of doing that without losing the ROM installed and the data on it ?

not possible but there is a work around.. backup rom, delete old partitions, make new ones, restore backup.

My Galaxy SL has 2GB internal memory and 32GB External.
When trying to set up avast! anti-theft I ran into a problem with lack of space in the system partition.
What I'd like to do is to make as much use as possible of the external SD for applications etc and use the internal storage just for system stuff and anything else that needs to be in the internal storage.
I would welcome any advice on how best to go about this.
Thanks in advance.
Eventually freed up space in system partition by moving audio stuff out.
The space allocated for the partition is 322MB.
Need to find a ROM that gives a larger partition or find some way of increasing the size.
try moving your few apps to sdcard.
I dont think we can increase the size of app partition.

Have used Apps2SD and Link2SD but didn't gain very much.
There are something like 140 unmoveable apps on the phone, quite a few of which cannot even be uninstalled.
Guess I'll have to weed out unused apps.
Strikes me as strange that so little is allocated for SYSTEM partition.
install the titanium backup and goto apps section in it.
look for those apps which are in red color (means they are on system partition) long press on them and then use convert to user app. (make sure you don't convert all apps just covernt apps like live wallpaper, swype, etc)
make sure to takw backup before converting it.
I too have system partition of 337 mb only.

So, i'm debating between two ROM's right now, i've played with one for about a month and a half and i'm starting to test the other one. i'm curious, once i decide which ROM i want to use, how can i permanently delete all the apps on the old rom? i want to make sure that i have enough storage on my internalSD card so that i dont run out of space. Is there a way to make sure all the data/files from the old rom get deleted?
Thank you in advance for any help

Just wipe data in recovery and it'll delete those apps.

Yes. You can restore to go back to exactly where you were.
Perfect! Ill keep my backups on my externalSD cars and my computer and just do a factory reset to delete everything. Thank you both so much. You rock!!!!:victory:

ha-ha i know i probably shouldn't worry about my storage so much, but i do wish they would bring back the apps2SD feature. I've heard though that its just Samsung because of the way they format it.

It's anything with ICS up.
This is the situation, I've created 500mb System partition, 500mb Data partition and 300 mb Cache partition for system 3 on BMM to try out a ROM and see if It was fit for me to use as daily.. The thing is it is fit for my daily use but the partitions I've made are quite small. Is there a way I could make a backup, destroy the partitions, create bigger ones and restore my data so my phone would be the same but with more space?
How big do you think the cache partition should be?
Hi,
Since one or two months I have noticed that my TWRP backups were taking a lot of space (More than 3 Gb), my old backups with all my apps installed were around 1,5Gb and 2Gb.
Yesterday I did a factory reset to installa Lollipop, just after installing it the size of the data partition was right (Very small, no apps installed). I just reinstalled all my apps and the size grow again, how can I check my files in the data partition? I don't have ANY game installed, I had FIFA 15 before factory resetting, but I didn't reinstall it. Another factor could be Play Music All Access.
Can someone please help me?
Best regards.

Cannot open the system data subfolder.
Finally could use that program, looks like now with android lollipop using ART, the size of the data partition is a lot big!
TWRP should exclude the art cache when backing up..
Hi all, I've been having an issue with TWRP in that my backup size is huge. The data partition takes up about 8gb compressed and over 14 uncompressed. This is an absurdly large amount, does anyone know why it is this big? I tried clearing a lot of apps and space but the difference was negligible.
Also, managed to get just enough space to run a backup but deleting more than I'd have liked to, but then the backup keeps failing because i get the "createTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255".
Can anyone help me address my issues? This is the last step i have before flashing a new rom.
I'm running TWRP 3.0.0 on my D850 with CloudyG3 2.2
My backup is also above 8 gb.that's normal.
Try to create at least 10 gb before restoring.use otg to have backup on flash drive.it would help you.
