Dungeon Hunter 4 on Shield - Shield Q&A

Hi I downloaded DH4 from Amazon app store. It works on Nvidia Shield but the graphic setting are stuck on Very Low. I tried to change it to low but it crashed and when I try to go higher it doesn't work. I'm sure the shield can do better than very low settings seeing as it the latest graphic card inside. Any ideas on how to get a better quality version of it working on Shield?

I'm having the same issue I have contacted Gameloft support about several issues including this, interestingly they have now removed dungeon hunter 4 off the playstore through the shield.... so hopefully a newly updated version will be released soon.

jolly good
Will be good to see. I'm currently trying to Root device so I can get proper controller support and be able to use SD cards to store games ETC
hopefully my driver issue will be rectified soon

DH4 back on google play
DH4 is back up on Google Play... still not controller savvy

are you guys able to select high settings now?

I'm only seeing low and very low as options. This is the first I've ever installed the game.
Emailing Gameloft now...

Im playing gangster vegas on my shield with Tincore mapped keys, I downloaded a mod from xda to enable high graphics and it works really smooth, i hope there is a mod for DH4. Will try after i download it.

Any luck?
Any luck tweaking the graphics?

sadly haven't found any mod for the graphics

New update
A new update as of today says the game supports Moga controller use so it may be possible that the shield will work with it. Not sure about graphic settings or anything yet. Hopefully there is some early optimisation already but havent been able to download yet.

dungeon hunter 4 has supported moga since a long time. Iv been using it with moga. Im 90% sure we wont have high graphics ever on shield or any tegra devices. unless its a hack

bummer
that's a shame. Would be nice. Currently rinsing the ass out of Asphalt 8. Great little arcade racer but the IAP's are just a little harsh as it takes ages to earn cash normally and the design of the game is so tight in terms of what is included in the 69p app price and what is extra.
Such a shame as if they charge $4.99 for the game and didn't add the "buy buy buy" scheme the game would be one of the best racers I've played on a mobile device ever.
Don't mind the grind but it is losing points for being so money orientated.
EDIT:
Just downloaded it, it runs on VERY HIGH GRAPHIC settings with full controller support on shield from Google Play now woohoo!

Nice finally the decided to support a tegra chip properly wow, but where is the offical gangstar vegas version ?

This is very new to me, I thought this was basically a console and didn't think it would have graphics settings

DH4
Cool game..great graphics...just wish it wasn't a money pit game.

well..gameloft is one of the rare companies that needs graphics settings because they tend to have the best graphics in their games, and given that android is like a windows pc with many configs, its good they do this.

Where are the games?

So I've had my phone for a couple weeks now, I was hearing all this buzz about how awesome Android is now and how far it's come so I just took the plunge. The phone has been fun to use and explore as far as widgets are concerned etc... but if I would ever make this my full time device it would have to do everything that my other phone (iPhone4) does. This brings me to the games... so far on the market all I've seen are pretty shoddy looking atari or nintendo looking games, where are all the graphically intensive and/or beautifully designed games in the market? How do I find games that actually take advantage of the GPU in my phone (Galaxy S)?
Gameloft has bunch of 3D games like Avatar and Assiasin's Creed for Android on their website, I can't post links so just google it or go to Gameloft.com and go to their Android section.
Also, emulators

Why don't you go buy a dumb flip phone and supplement it with a PDA? Oh, maybe because you want one device to do multiple things? Imagine that. With phones like the Epic out, phones are starting to pack some pretty nice GPUs - you shouldn't dismiss gaming just like that.
To the OP: Check out Gameloft's stuff like someone else mentioned, they really are top of the line, but they refused to list their games in the marketplace. SNESoid, NESoid can run SNES/NES games. There's also some decent paid games in the Marketplace, you can usually find a demo or Lite version to try. With more people flocking to Android, more developers will start creating fleshed out games other than Bejweled clones (hopefully).

I wonder why people say garbage like oh get a PSP if you want to play games, Or if you want to use a navigation system get a gps, etc. I for one buy a device so I can do it all with one device. Or else I wouldn't buy it. End of point.
oh if you want a phone buy a land line phone instead it works better??? Logical I think not!

Except Gameloft that begins to bring its Iphone hits to Android, there are few 3D games on our favorite platform.
Few days ago, I played Asphalt 5, that's not a bad game, because Gameloft proposed some free demo versions on its website (not avalaible n the market)
You can also try some good games you can find on the market like Speed forge 3D or Replica Island (not in 3D but a very good game).
At least you can try emulators (gensoid, gameboid...)

Best tool for the job is the simple summary. I for one am glad that the entire market isn't dominated by games.. With all of the porn and sound boards there wouldn't be any actual useful apps left.

A question about Gameloft's games; I downloaded Dungeon Hunter, love it!
aTrackDog tells me there's a more up-to-date version than what I have, but I can't access it from the market.
Are their games auto update? Or do I need to do it manually?

When I try to play a Polar Bit game like Wave Blazer or Asphalt HD, etc., the controls are completely out of control. Other games like NFS Shift, and the Gangster games from Gameloft, appear as if they will load, then half the screen has ghost like cars and people.
Is this something that will clear up with Gingerbread or will we likely have to wait for Honeycomb (which I have read has been written for the Motorola tab with almost identical hardware to our G pads) ?
Has anyone found any games besides Angry Birds that res up properly to a 10 inch screen ?
Thanks in advance.
I could actually be the game, or a firmware issue or both. Some games work fine, some do not probably as they coded for a smaller phone screen that's in portrait mode by default.
I wouldn't recommend this tablet for gaming, yet. Too many issues that may not be worked out until the app makers start developing for tablets. You could also call CS to complain, so that way they know it's an issue (I've done this a few times, myself).

Not sure I agree that the G is not good for gaming. Angry Birds, Mini Squadron, Steambirds, Quake series, PSX and the down the road releases of Dreamcast and N64 emus have no equal with Tegra 2.
If solely for Android games and especially Gameloft games, 100% agree.
I used to think the sensor was screwed up in the tablet. More I play with things the more I believe it is the way the games were coded. They were not made to work on a tablet in landscape mode. Some developers did a better job then others and may have thought ahead.
Raging Thunder is a good example. Raging Thunder 1 has to be driven with the tablet sideways. Raging Thunder 2 works fine. Seems to me something may have been learned about how things should be coded between game 1, and game 2.
If the G sensor was bad no game would ever work. Since there are games that do work I tend to lean towards the game being broken, and not the sensor in the tablet.

Labyrinth works perfect so I'm convinced its the games themselves
I wouldn't recommend it for gamers yet because some games don't work. But agree that, when they do work, they work very well. Angry Birds, for example, is a game I almost wish didn't work.
But since it's hit or miss, it's not something I would recommend to a gamer. I figure that this will work itself out as more Tegra 2 devices are released.
I just figured that some of the games i saw working on the galaxy tab in the vzw should be working on this tablet as well but there were some issues with them not working. anyway i hope can create a database of games that work well somwhere on the forums and sticky it

OnLive Users, please share your experience on the PLAY.

I recently found OnLive, a cloud based gaming app that is on multiple platforms, including android. At the moment, they have titles such as Assasins Creed II and Brotherhood, SplinterCell Conviction, Homefront, and many others. Their volume isnt as big as Valve's Steam, but it has been recognized by the Steam community.
Some basic pros:
-No need to download your games, their on the cloud.
-Their game selection is expanding.
-You can play a demo before you buy.
-No fee for having an account, but there is one for a membership.
-Analogs are compatible on the PLAY.
Some cons:
-You cant play offline.
-You have too keep up with your bills to play.
-No mods in games.
-Less variety of games compared to steam (which doesnt support android).
-Games are about retail price moat of the time.
- A lot of data is used streaming your game.
when i last used used it, it was very slow and lagging all the time on my wifi broadband (30Mb)
I've no problems with it. I've only 2,5 meg broadband. Sometimes it's pixelised a little but work like a charm.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
What? OnLive is out for like 6 months, XDA members went over it. Yes, it's as good as it was before.
It never connects on my wifi broadband (10mb)
It work's great for me. I only do the demos because the majority of the games I own on Xbox and I can't afford to pay twice for a game. I use it for a cool factor to show console games on a phone that no one has heard of at the parties I throw.

I love using onlive, one because its all cloud gaming...so I can play most of my games on my pc and then if I'm going somewhere and it has wifi (I rarely use my data *only 2 gb.a month*) then I can continue where I left off....or if I'm planning iny from.my pc to my laptop.
The only thing I dislike about the Play and onlive is the lack of L3 and R3 physical buttons OR touch screen buttons, and for most of my games, like Dues ex and AvP, it gets hard to play....but the play is Awesome for.Assassins creed games, (I've got 2 and brotherhood) and orcs must die....I think the only mistake I've made is buying dawn of war 2 when i first found onlive 3 months ago...
But the advantage is that you can always find other players for multiplayer games ( Homefront ftw, even though I don't have it, I'm.waiting for somekind of sale where it will be at or below $10....which is when I have bought my games lol)

It drove me to buy the OnLive console(which kicks ass), but on Xperia Play I'd always thought it suffered from input lag.
Recently upgraded our router to something newer/more oriented towards gaming and now the input lag is drastically decreased; it's actually quite practical now! What I also like is that I don't always have to be confined to WiFi. In places where I have a good HSPA+ connection, I can play without being bound to a router! It's no replacement for having games that can be played without an active internet connection, but being able to play full-blown Assassin's Creed games and the REAL Street Fighter IV:AE make this quite a winner for me.
My one persisting qualm is the L2/L3/R2/R3. There is absolutely no L3/R3 whatsoever, and L2/R2 takes over the volume buttons. What they really need to do is just have L2/L3/R2/R3 as virtual touch buttons near the bottom of the screen.
If you get it, check out a lesser-known game called A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda. Amazing game!

Yeah, I agree with you on the R and L 3 buttons. I wish for some games though that we had the ability to flip the l2 l, r2, and the l1and r1 buttons/triggers around.....I sent onlive an email about that at the end of march and they said they would look into it.

Works great for me.
BUT:
- A lot of games are too dark.
- A lot of games are unsuitable for the Play's buttons. ie. they need more.
- A lot of games don't suit a small screen. For example, the ball in Virtua Tennis is tiny & moves too fast for small, handheld gaming.
The controls suck basically, mainly because of the lack of l2, r2, l3, r3. The touchpads are also quite crap for these games :/

from the preview I saw, it definitely beats gamelofts 2.5d ds-ish port. Yes, I bought a console hit for my former DS, and regretted it again after getting CoD4, so horrible.
So the general theme is thatyou have to have fairly good Wi-Fi to enjoy w/o lag. Also, is it true that OnLive's servers go down from time to time, I've heard things like this on other forums and want to confirm whether or not it is common. I want to try i .t, but I want to know that it is convenient before I attach my identity to anything else and forget.

I've only ever disconnected from onlive when my internet has effed up....you have to have a marginally good wifi to have it look good, but onlive normally tells you first if you have connection issues. And you can.use aCC or DC to buy a game and then delete the card off your account, so nothing is permanent.

OnLive : input lag
Persistent Input Lag
*my internet speed is 105mpbs/10mpbs
*have tried 3 wireless N routers (no channels overlapping)
-playing Street Fighter is grueling
-playing Batman is ok.
=I really wish it worked without the lag.
{EDIT} as a top edit I'd like to remind people that your connection no matter how fast will still create input lag in your games. That's a server issue cause by how the data / input is sent and received. If you want more info on it, check into NVIDIA and GAI KAI. Gai Kai has better visuals but the frame rate for some reason takes a dive...
{/EDIT}
I've used the system since August, and I'm a happy customer!
At first the visuals were very muddy looking (arkham city looked really bad) but after the following update the devs must have changed something because the colors are more vibrant.
The control lag is passable, even when playing some pretty intense games. I have split second on there (and the play pack) and I've gotten numerous 1st place trophies once I got used to the latency. It's not bad at all it's just not perfect because it's not 1:1 (it's really close though).
When I got it in august of last year I thought to myself "boy I wish this had xperia play support" and what to my surprise not a week later I didn't have to use the game keyboard lol
Here's my pros and cons in a TLR
PRO's
-you're playing PC-quality games on your phone
-full Xperia Play optimized (even the volume buttons count as the shoulder buttons though it is a little awkward)
-hundreds of games to choose from and recent ones
-the price point of some games is astounding. I got a few games for only $2 you just need to look at sales frequently.
-graphics have improved dramatically since I've used the service
-the lag in controls is passable (more in CON's)
-you can view other people playing the game and there's a FREE 30 min trial with almost every game
-did I mention it's PC games on your phone?
CON's
-you can't play any 2k games on the phone right now (no bioshock, borderlands)
-the lag in FPS's is tough. Even games like splinter cell where you have to aim your gun in a tight spot it's tricky. Possible but it's a pain when it's not 1:1. I couldn't even play FEAR 2 or 3 it was death up the butt
-battery drain LOL
right there's really not many bad things about it. However the release date for the games varies though Batman: AC came out pretty soon after it's actual release.
Also Wifi and LTE are preferred and I didn't put it as a con because for me I can play on 3G as well. It's fast enough in my area, I'd use speed test to see if it is fast in your area. If you're speed test can consistently hold around 150+ KBps then you're golden.
Borderlands is on onlive lol...
The assassin's creed games are perfect for the play. Only con I have is lack of l3 and r3 buttons, even on the screen would be fine.

Yes I e-mailed NamcoBandai telling them about this issue with that game on Shield, also going to call them on Monday about it, hopefuly they will issue an update to make the game work on Shield or give me a refund. I was wondering if any other Shield owners who has this game on their Shields were having the same crashing at the loading screen problem. All my other games play perfectly on my Shield including other NamcoBandai games that I've purchased for my Shield, so it has to be the game itself not my Shield. In the past I played TNA Wrestling Impact on my old Nexus 7 Tablet and never had any problems like this.

In the future, test a game/app as soon as you buy it. If it doesn't work, you can get a refund by uninstalling via the play store app, as long as it's under 15 minutes from purchase time.

[Q] Lost boy with a Nvidia Shield

So!
I finally own the Nvidia Shield.
I bought it mainly for emulators. I'm not interested in streaming PC games (I don't have a compatible graphics card in my PC).
I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted it.
My first reaction is that the Nvidia Shield is almost TOO powerful. Will there ever be an app, or game or emulator to max it's potential?
I'm not saying it's most powerful thing ever and that it will never be topped, but powerwise it feels a bit avant-garde for a handheld console.
I got a little disappointed when I tried Reicast.
It runs fine, but there's too many graphical glitches for it to be playable IMO.
No disrespect towards the developer. He has done and is still doing amazing work on the app, but I was hoping it would be more playable.
I have no doubt that if development continues, Reicast will run flawlessly on the Shield.
What fun is there to do with the Nvidia Shield?
Anything I should give a try? Emulator wise or just some Android game that is fun to play?
Will it ever be able to run a PS2 or Gamecube emulator on it's own, not streaming from a PC?
Well I've had two since launch date and love the shield still on bench scores out preformed the note 3 and as far as ps2 and GameCube or any emulator its not so much about the power of the device your trying to run it on as it is how well the person that coded the emulator did on coding it for our device and android because if for say you could put a ps2 disc in the shield and it was coded for ps2 it would run ten times better then the old ps2 hardware get me? A lot of people don't understand how that works so I just wanted to clear things up also game wise portal is coming soon to shield I love mc4 a lot and mapped mc3 and love it as well there's lots of shield supported games just gotta browse also some ouya games will work fine on shield sorry this is so long just wanna help anyway I can
You should Google something like: cool thing to do with Android. You have a rooted Android device so you can do anything you want, it's nearly unlimited potential.
It's a good device to use as a dedicated HTPC connected to the TV, you can control it using bluetooth or using another Android phone via DroidMote. Considering it have USB OTG you can connect a harddrive to it and use it as a DLNA server. It make a decent offline GPS as well.
PS. It won't be powerful enough to emulated PS2 (well).
