I just tried my shield with Waze and it doesn't seem to ever find my location. Is anyone else having the same issue or know how to fix the issue?

I just checked my GPS, and it works fine...I don't know what Waze is though. pretty good GPS, i'm sitting inside a lab room, and it was still able to get my location pretty good, looks like dead on.

Google Maps has a tendency to work magic for getting GPS to work. I think it helps calibrate it, which speeds it up. Just a guess...

I think its A-GPS. records your last position and can use that, combined with the system time, some hope that you haven't moved, a bit of trigonometry, a list of existing satellites in orbit and some black magic to guess which satellites are above you at that moment in time and speed up obtaining a lock (as it no longer has to ping for existing satellites, it just presumes that they are there and if your system time is correct and the device hasn't moved then its quite reliable. A hot start if you will.
Google maps also supports location detection via WiFi (it actually looks up your external IP and makes a guess on your location from that, did place me in detroit once, I am actually in cambridgeshire england). Lets say it was to locate you via wifi, I believe it can use that location data as starter info for A-GPS. Which may then give Waze a kick up the derriere.
Or it could just be black magic entirely.
I use Waze all the time but never tried it on shield. Maybe it isn't supported. Ill give it a try today and let you know how it goes

So my GPS was working fine for its limited use over the past few weeks that I owned the Inspire.... Now I'm having a rough time.
I downloaded a geocaching app called c:geo and was getting very erratic location locks on coordinates (it would tell me a cache was over 200 feet away when it was literally right on top of me).
Then, yesterday, while trying to use the GPS with google maps in my car, it continually lost signal, and would often not be able to reconnect.
This is rather troubling to me, as the GPS seemed to be working fine as of earlier last week.
exchange it
Update: Just went outside and stood with the GPS and it kept searching for GPS in google maps... I think I might be returning this and getting another.

Try downloading Fasterfix from the Market.
So this is quite weird... after downloading GPS status, I was noticing that I was getting NO satellites... I leave the app on for awhile, just fiddling around with things, and out of nowhere I get a fix on 7 (in my house).
I take the phone out to a nearby cache and it's accurate within 4 meters... ?_?
Don't return the phone yet. Do to settings>location the the very last option listed should let you reinstall / recover the locations app/ Doing this fixed mine perfectly. Also remember some cases interfere with the gps antenna
Went ahead and returned it anyway, may as well while I'm still in the 30 day period. New GPS works like a charm, at first.
Also I was not using a case.

For future reference, where is this exactly?
All I see in Settings > Location is
-Use Wireless networks
-Use GPS Satellites
-Phone Finder
That option appears in some of the DHD roms and not available in the stock AT&T rom.
I'm sorry if this is addressed somewhere, but I couldn't find anything solid while searching. I use my G2x every day with SportyPal Pro for my bike rides. I am currently running stock 2.2.2 with root and am having some difficulty attaining an initial GPS lock. It seems like when I go to launch any GPS app, it will not get a lock. To get it to work, I have to open GPS Test, select tools, and clear out the A-GPS data. After doing this, it looks almost instantly and will keep a lock forever.
The next day, however, I must do the same thing, and this happens nearly 100% of the time. The funny thing to me is when I open GPS Test, it will show a strong signal from a lot of satellites, around 7-9, but it doesn't use these signals to find the lock. Again, after resetting the A-GPS data, it works every time almost instantly.
I have just dealt with this but it is getting more frustrating. Today, GPS Test wouldn't load, just kept showing a blank screen and force closing eventually, even after fix permissions, clear data, uninstall and reinstall. Only after another reboot, would GPS Test even load. I can't explain because I don't know well how the inner software works, but the GPS seems to have a hard time relocating itself when using the cached A-GPS data. Any fixes that anyone knows of, or things I could try?
Thanks a lot in advance.

When you launch the app and go to the satellite view screen, press menu, and it is one of the options.

Sadly, I am having the same problem
I think I'm having the same problem too: I can pick up plenty of satellites (more than the 3-4 required for a lock), and they turn green, but I don't actually get positioning data available.

Well, I guess if you are seeing the same problem, it could be a software failure. Why can't Android phone makers release a phone with GPS that works out of box? Do they not test these things? Hopefully the Gingerbread update addresses this issue.
I have GPS issues often as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I don't have this problem but I have heard of others that do. My device locks in literally 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I have to say it's the best GPS I have ever used.
I think this problem is an android issue not hardware. I have to load gps test on my vibrant before being able to get a lock also. Wont lie the lock time on this phone is considerably longer but when finally does lock its strong and accurate.
via LG G2x
It takes me forever to get a GPS lock too. However, once it finally gets one, it's fairly strong and accurate.
Gps is way crap now.my vibrant beats the crap out of it... I'm getting like 40000 feet accuracy. It eventually works itself out but still crap..
In gps status in tools deleting the a gps stuff it takes a long time (5 seconds) vs my vibrants agps data. Vibrants clears instantly almost like the lg remembers too much causing conflict....
I cant find my location via gps in google maps. In the gps status app, it appeard to be locking as fix/sats shows 3/3. Ive cleared agps data and also tried to download agps data. Does anyone experience a similar issue? Any suggestions as what elsd i can try?
I dont think its the hardware because it did work the last time i tried about 2 weeks ago. Since then I tried to use a location spoofing app (that has since been uninstalled and mock locations disabled).
On the O2X the mongs at LG left out the gps.conf file, adding it manually sped up lock time no end. I guess it's possible they did the same on the G2X?
I actually exchanged a G2x yesterday that was having problems with GPS
Regardless of whether it was on stock or not, rooted or otherwise, my phone would not find any more than 4 satellites, and would never lock. Factory resets did nothing. My fiancee's phone, however, would find 8 or more within 10 seconds when both phones were set right next to each other. Both phones had a 4/05 manufacture date.
Because of that, I was pretty sure my issue was hardware, as I was never able to get the GPS to work properly. The phone they gave me yesterday (4/12 manufacture date) does seem to work ok, though the screen bleeding a bit worse (but that doesn't bother me *that* much)
ok guys i been seen that the new beaseband jul1511 suppost to fix the gps and some other have web problems or something.
i need help is it the rom that im using or my phone is bad?
i am running CM7 124 and my gps give me a accuarred location when im on wifi
but still navigation takes a while sometimes not to work it stays on searching for gps
but when im on tmobile network it give me a few blocks away from my location
and sometimes navigation still search for gps but in the map it gives me right where i am.
ok i did the gps fix from gps.conf but didnt help so i went back to where it was.
its getting on my nerves but i was wondering if it was the rom fault or my phone.
and about the web not working? mine works fine
first lock usually takes about 5 minutes or so, if you leave the gps on then its usually instant for about a full day or so. if you turn the device off then on later it takes about 2-3 to relock. tested on both tmobile and google supl servers.
thank you man. it dever did work when i was inside my house but as soon i went outside it picked up the right location fast. and navigation fast

GPS typically doesn't work inside unless you are near a window. It detects satellites orbitting the earth so the receiver needs a clear view of the sky.
My Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 has starting acting strangely this morning with anything to do with location services.
Only started this morning when I went to show a colleague the Waze app. Said my current location is Haworth, Yorkshire!?! I am actually at Watford Junction station Hertfordshire! Lol!
Even tried Google Now navigation and said 212 miles to home!!! So it remembers where I live?
I have never been to Haworth, let alone being there now.
Have tried rebooting phone, indoors and outdoors, turning off all location services and it is still showing wrong location?
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried in a completely different location, or go into Location settings and set it to Device only to force GPS and wait for a fix. It might just be your phone is defaulting to Wi-Fi location, and a new access point has appeared near to you that used to be in North Yorkshire!
Regards
Phil

Tried device GPS only, and not GPS/data/wifi, and picking me up fine. GPS on its own, mobile network on its own, both work fine, but not the 2 together?
It is very strange as it only started happening this week and only when I go into the mess/break room at Watford Junction station. And always Haworth! But now, as soon as I step out of the door, it sorts itself out within a minute or 2. But it does happens every time I go into there now! There is a wifi signal at work, but cannot pick it up in the mess room, so can't be that interfering?
It is not a biggy as not as if I need a satnav to drive my train! lol! And to see the weather, I look out of the door (no windows!)
Hello,
my GPS doesnt work since like over 2 years. I cant find any satelites and my Google maps cant navigate me. I tried everything. Any fixes apps like GPS test or GPS Toolbar. Also i disabled the auto optimation for Apps Like GPS Test, Maps, Google play Services etc..
Also i changed my hardware with a new GPS Module. Still doesnt work. So i think its a Software Problem.
I think the reason is, that i deleted the gps.conf file. Is it possible, that someone can sent me his file?
Its normaly safed on /system/etc/gps.conf.
Im from Germany. Best settings would be from europe.
Im using the Rom TeamExyKing 9.0 Version v19.
Thanks in advanced for any help!

I think your misunderstanding what GPS means.
It doesn't mean that you should be located by GPS satilite only and continously. It's now just a general term for your location on the planet.
Your phone is located by several different methods, cell tower, WiFi, and GPS. GPS satilite location requires a clear line of sight between you and the satilite which is very difficult to maintain, however GPS satellites do know the exact location of cell towers so your exact location (with 5 meters) can be triangulated from your proximity to cell towers. You are never being tracked satelite to satelite.
Does that make sense?

You need to calibrate your device when Google maps is functioning and its better to do this in a city with plenty of cell towers. Maps can be very off in rural areas.

Have a look here https://www.techrepublic.com/article/faster-gps-locking-on-your-rooted-android-device
Also the same file in your uncles phone will work in your S7
the stockrom comes without a gps config file or at least its not in system/etc, you didnt delete it ..
i guess that has something to do with the samsung location service and touchwiz bullcrap in general .. ill unpack a twrp system image today and try to search through the files , maybe its just in another folder or was renamed or both...
why ? i just got this samsung phone 2 weeks ago, and compared to my old sony z3c from 2014 the gps is really crappy , i could get a 1.5 meter fix on my sony even in the deep forest
but can only get a 7 meter fix on the samsung under clear sky and on top its also shifted a few meters, so i never walk on the sidewalk but through the buildings beside it in the maps app...

that doesnt exist in my rom (stock 8.0)
but theres a gps.xml in system/vendor/etc/gnss
there you can enable gallileo at least (although i think i have to also add xtra servers in gps.conf) today we had thunderstorms here in germany so i couldnt test my gps but it finds SOME gallileo sattelites at least (from my window)
i thought disabling baidoo would grant me some accuracy (becasue baidoo is on the other side of the world basically and they only come in weak) .. but after disabling it ,i had complete set off by 30 meters from my window , maybe my system needs some ...
i couldnt test it , but there seems to be lot of customization when using gps.xml and gps.conf correctly together. but i couldnt find any faq !?!
what i wanna know is: where exactly is the gps sensor on the s7 .. is it the small hole on the upper side of the phone ?

So i think i dont get any more answers. I still have the problem and it doesnt get better. So i think i have to be with that issue, that GPS doesnt work.
I will have the Samsung Galaxy s7 one more year and Change to a New Smartphone.
