Sorry, /cache is empty

If you take this OTA, it's very likely you will not be able to root or restore root...

Is you firmware version 10.6.1.14.10 now?
Would you be willing to try the Motochopper tool and let us know if it still works?

I've just updated it. It seems one of the bugs Bluebox Security Scanner reported is patched. No idea what else have been changed.

What firmware version are you on? You did confirm having root by running an app that requires it like Titanium Backup?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 4

I don't think motochopper works on this update.

Just installed the update and used OTA Rootkeeper to restore root. Titanium Backup is able to get root and Root Checker Basic shows root is enabled. Attached is a screenshot of the system info after the update.

I think this is a minor update and the driver versions are not as new as the 10.6.1.27.1 update they did for the TF300T. That has wifi on version.7.2.1.50 and Bluetooth on version 11.38.
I won't be using this update as CROMi-X is already beyond it

Sure am glad to hear that it's NOT stopping root, whew!
Sometimes it's good to know you're wrong! :good:

I'm thinking it's time to unlock and flash your ROM. I don't think ASUS will be doing many more updates for the Infinity and the benchmarks on CROMi-X are pretty amazing.:good:

Call me a hopeless romantic, I still think that we will at least receive an Android 4.3 update for our tablet, if not the rumored Key Lime Pie in October. Since the new Infinity is still not out yet, the tf700 should still be the flagship product of ASUS (the new Nexus 7 is a Google device after all). Even HTC with its terrible track record of updating devices has updated its One X to Android 4.2.2, I see no reason why ASUS stops pushing out updates for our tf700.

I hope there wil come some updates
Im on cromi 4.7 now it is usable bevor it was horrible

That's great. Unfortuantely for me, OTA Rootkeeper was unable to restore my root. Motochopper also does not work anymore. Am I screwed?

Asus have blocked the motochopper exploit in this update.
To regain root without unlocking (obviously that's the easy option) is downgrade from the Asus Website, apply root with motochopper, use ota root keeper, temp unroot, upgrade via OTA and reapply root from voodoo ota......

You are the second person (I know of) not able to restore root after that update. It worked for most people.
Can you state step-by-step what you did?
Maybe we can identify why it didn't work for you..
Did you backup or protect root before you updated?

1. While rooted on 4.2.1 (previous build), I started OTA Rootkeeper and verified all checkboxes were checked.
2. Pushed the button to Protect root.
3. Let OTA update run.
4. Started OTA Rootkeeper and pressed Restore root, getting the msgs "root su restored" and "Superuser granted to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper".
5. When I refresh the status, the "Device rooted" and "Root permission granted" boxes are still unchecked. Root Check also says device is not rooted.
Did I miss a step? I thought it was pretty easy to follow but maybe I thought it was supposed to be too easy?
Oh, if it matters, when I start Rootkeeper, the "/system supports root protection" and "Protected su copy available" boxes are checked.

[Q] Razorclaw Root - OTA safe?

Hi,
I just rooted my transformer using the Razorclaw 1-click app. Great work, REALLY great work.
Question though... is this root method OTA update safe? Will future Asus OTA firmware updates fail because of it? If not, will Root access survive it (I have to assume not based on past experience on other devices)
Thanks for the input.

I used BRk's Root Toolkit so I cannot speak for Razorclaw. I think with most or all rooting methods you have to udate manually or unroot. I am able to download the updates but it fails on install. So, I have been installing the update manually using CWR. Ususally one of the devs will post the modifed file within a couple of days.
All of the updates I've seen from asus so far will chmod all of the files in /system/xbin and /system/bin to 0755, which will remove the setuid bit from anything. I see no reason asus would change that in the future.
Hi, I just rooted my Transformer with the Razorclaw root, but I feel really paranoid and there's an OTA update available, if I haven't flashed any other recovery, can I install the update. The notification is annoying me and I'm really paranoid about trying it myself, can I just install the update and go on with having an unrooted transformer? Please answer.

[UPDATE] Rooted US Transformers 9.2.1.11(US) to 9.2.1.17(US)

Typical stuff, I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device. That being said much love to Roach2010 and KTWombley for their work which led to my insignificant contribution.
Long story short this update is for the US version of Asus Transformer TF101. This upgrade applies to those who are running stock firmware that is rooted.
If you removed any stock applications or did anything to your stock installation this will fail.
I tested this update on my own tablet and my daughters who happens to have the keyboard dock and all was good. US only but if anyone wants to forward me other packages I would be happy to add them.
Try at your own risk.

Can someone please post a step by step for running this update? been a while since I rooted and want ICS
thanks in advance... I rooted but left things unmodified
do I just flash the update like any other rom?
Yeah you can flash over.
I installed OTA Rootkeeper and made a backup of my root, then I flashed the zip like anything else. After I the update was finished, I went back into OTA Rootkeeper and noticed that I no longer had root so I used the app to restore my root and voila, all updated and rooted.
I flashed this via CWM and it all went well.
How do I remove the message in my notifications? Also, OTA (even with root keeper) doesn't seem to work with CWM installed.
Is there a ww version of this update?
Hi,
kookooktchoo, thanks for the info about OTA root-keeper!!! Unfortunately I didn't read the rest of your post, I too flashed this update and lost root. lucky I had installed and backed up my root using it.
thanks a lot !!!

You can still use ViperMod primetime option 1 to root after the flashing the update. Just did it myself .

Works perfect.. I did not lose root either..
Anyone know a way to get this to not check a current app? I only changed the SystemUI and cant find my backup of the original. It hangs on that. I tried the rooted+stock full version of the first ICS release but it apparently didnt blow away my ASOP SystemUI because its still failing.
No reboots or hangs so far. Good stuff.
Update the new firmware using the normal route. Still rooted after the update. No problem at all.
Worked great for me. Thanks!
The OTA kept failing on me so I tried this and it worked great.
For an 8MB update it took a little longer than I expected to flash (+5 mins).
Apparently this doesn't fix USB mounting of internal and removable storage on PC though. I was hoping it would. Guess I'll search out the separate fix. I know I saw it around here some where.
Update failed
Doesn't work for me, update says:

[Q] can i use voodoo ota root keeper if i manually update to .29

so i know that i can root it at .17, use the app to keep root, update to .29, and use the app to get root back.
but how do you update it? does it matter if i update it manually (download the file from asus support website, unzip to sd card, install the sd card and an exclamation mark will appear,... [like they say in their website])
do i have to update over-the-air?
and what if after i buy it, the version is .29 out of the box? how can i root it?
another question is what case and screen protector do you use for this tablet? i found a lot of brands but i don't know which one is the best to use
thanks
you can update via ota. just make sure you use voodoo to temporarly unroot your transformer and make sure you aren't using a modified build.prop. if for some reason your tf300t is already at .29 you can just downgrade following the instructions in the development section, it's pretty simple.
i use my device naked. no screen protector. i do use an ipad case for when i'm not using it.

any thoughts? manually update?

You won't get the OTA update since you unlocked. You will need to update manually and re-root flashing a zip with CWM. Check this thread for more info.
Note:
That's if you lose root when updating manually.

If you install CWM or TWRP (recoveries) you will be able to flash ASUS updates and flash a zip that gets you root access, if you do lose root when updating.

[Q] Lost root after latest firmware update

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about the recent firmware update (build 10.6.1.15.3) for the TF300T. I had root before the update and all was well in the world and then I saw the update notification. I checked voodoo to make sure I had root backed up and I did. I performed the update and now no root and voodoo is not restoring it. I fired up adb and found su binary and busybox are missing from bin and xbin It appears asus decided to overwrite my system directory in this update and wipe out all those files that I so carefully placed to gain root access.
I think I am now officially stuck unrooted. :crying:
Unfortunately unlocking the bootloader is not an option for me for work related reasons. If anyone has any other information about this update or how I can restore root, please help!
Otherwise you would be wise to stay away from this update if you are currently locked and want to keep root.
This might help you:
[JB ROOT] motochopper works! (Root JB 4.1.1 & 4.2.1 with locked bootloader!)
And a little searching might find it even quicker than asking!
Someone just confirmed it is still working with the latest upgrade.
Would have been surprised, if Asus had broken it that quickly.

I actually did that. I temp unrooted before I updated which in hindsight might have been part of my issue. Anyways, I am going to be using motochopper to reroot but my tmp directory thinks it is a file now :silly:
I am currently downloading the asus firmware file so I can manually update (even though i am already on 4.2.1) and that is suppose to re-write my system directory so my tmp directory will be restored and I can push all the needed files. I will report back with how it goes.
[UPDATE] I was able to apply asus firmware manually (which factory reset my device in the process) then ran motochopper successfully. I backed up root with voodoo and this time updated firmware OTA without temp unrooting. After the update was applied, I restored root with voodoo and all is well now! Thank you everyone for your help

Firmware Upgrade?

Hello, I am just wondering if any of you guys received a firmware upgrade recently.
I upgraded to this firmware which I believe was built early this month and it seems like it can't be rooted and my Google play keeps on crashing.
I did some searches and there seems to be no results regarding tf700 and this build. Anyone?

Looks like they are doing a new release for the TF700 which is not unexpected seeing as they just did one for the TF300 and ME301 as well. The same problem exists on those two devices. Asus have closed the root loophole motochopper has been using. As of now there is no known root method other than unlocking.
What waste of their time...instead of fixing things like the lag, on screen keyboard output and browser compatability they get all paranoid about someone fixing it for them...

So, does anyone have a changelog for this or know if it's possible to keep root with Voodoo OTA and this update?
On the other hand, I may be sending my tablet to ASUS for repairs. If they update to this firmware, does factory reset revert to an older version I can root without unlocking?
Thanks!

I have sent mine in for digitizer repairs...so I'm sitting here worried about the same thing...I hope they don't flash my stuff..as of this moment, I don't think there is a way back.
Motorola did this to me with a Photon 4G phone right before they said they wouldn't be updating the OS beyond 2.3 they OTA'd my phone so I can't put a ROM on it. Guess what, no mo moto for this dude and now there won't be any more Asus either, pretty soon I won't be buying anything but I'll have a lot of money!

Dont't know what exactly
Apply OTa fine, go to Vodoo to restore Root
/system supports root protection and Protectected su copy available checked
click Restore root get messages ok but no more check and device not rooted
I don't temp un-root because i never do it for previous OTA..
Downgrade in .8 OK
Root motochoppper OK
Restore App and config with TB OK
Now i just have to OTA again and cross fingers ..

In cases like this temp unroot usually helps.
Bad update
Hi to all,
I´ve just update my TF700T to the latest firmware JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801 but all goes wrong.
First, every app I´ve installed has been stopped, no one works. Every time that i want to launch an app, appears the message "sorry, the XXXX app has stopped...", the same with a lot of processes: "sorry, the process XXXX has stopped"
Second, I try to fixit rebooting the pad, but evrery time I reboot it, or shut off and then power on it, is the same: "android is updating/upgrading: optimizing nn applications of mm"
What should I do, i´m desperate my TF700T is unusable.
I´m root, not unlocked. I activate the survival mode in the SuperSu app to try to mantain the root.
Thank you very much in advanced.
update:
I made a cold reset, wipe data and nothing works. Now I can´t enter on the system, because when I need to configure my google account, i receive a message the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
I also try made a RCK, but i got the android with the red triangle with the exclamation inside.

I got this error when mine upgrade to 10.6.1.14.10, too...
I managed to fix this by following "Alternative Firmware update Method" in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28374043&postcount=1
You may download 10.6.1.14.8 from Asus web site, downgrade the device, root it if you want to, and then apply OTA upgrade again.
