[UPDATE] Rooted US Transformers 9.2.1.11(US) to 9.2.1.17(US) - Eee Pad Transformer Android Development

Typical stuff, I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device. That being said much love to Roach2010 and KTWombley for their work which led to my insignificant contribution.
Long story short this update is for the US version of Asus Transformer TF101. This upgrade applies to those who are running stock firmware that is rooted.
If you removed any stock applications or did anything to your stock installation this will fail.
I tested this update on my own tablet and my daughters who happens to have the keyboard dock and all was good. US only but if anyone wants to forward me other packages I would be happy to add them.
Try at your own risk.

I guess i need CWM to flash this?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Can someone please post a step by step for running this update? been a while since I rooted and want ICS
thanks in advance... I rooted but left things unmodified
do I just flash the update like any other rom?

Yeah you can flash over.
I installed OTA Rootkeeper and made a backup of my root, then I flashed the zip like anything else. After I the update was finished, I went back into OTA Rootkeeper and noticed that I no longer had root so I used the app to restore my root and voila, all updated and rooted.

I flashed this via CWM and it all went well.
How do I remove the message in my notifications? Also, OTA (even with root keeper) doesn't seem to work with CWM installed.

Is there a ww version of this update?

Hi,
kookooktchoo, thanks for the info about OTA root-keeper!!! Unfortunately I didn't read the rest of your post, I too flashed this update and lost root. lucky I had installed and backed up my root using it.
thanks a lot !!!

Go into your apps in settings, find DMClient, then clear the data and cache, then you will get no more notifications about updates.

I think it will appear later this week.

You can still use ViperMod primetime option 1 to root after the flashing the update. Just did it myself .

Works perfect.. I did not lose root either..

Anyone know a way to get this to not check a current app? I only changed the SystemUI and cant find my backup of the original. It hangs on that. I tried the rooted+stock full version of the first ICS release but it apparently didnt blow away my ASOP SystemUI because its still failing.

No reboots or hangs so far. Good stuff.

Update the new firmware using the normal route. Still rooted after the update. No problem at all.

Worked great for me. Thanks!

The OTA kept failing on me so I tried this and it worked great.
For an 8MB update it took a little longer than I expected to flash (+5 mins).
Apparently this doesn't fix USB mounting of internal and removable storage on PC though. I was hoping it would. Guess I'll search out the separate fix. I know I saw it around here some where.

Update failed
Doesn't work for me, update says:

Today's OTA...

Anybody has a way for people that are not unlocked and cannot receive OTAs to get todays stability update? Grrrrr i'm pissed that such a great tablet has such annoying issues!
Yep, same here.. I'm in Canada as well
I haven't been able to unlock and get OTAs, still!

Download the update file from here, create the "cache" folder in sdcard root and place the "dlpkgfile" in there then restart your device.I didn't tested this and i'm not sure it will work and also please keep in mind that if the file is from an "US_SKU" and you have an WW_SKU the update is not possible.
BTW,there's already a thread on the new OTA so why starting a new thread?
EDIT: Just checked that file and is from the US_SKU OTA so will only work for US versions.
alright thanks. Any other way for us to update?
Yeah it won't install on my tab, and I've no way to redownload it, so I can't confirm if that'll work for US skus either. I've been waiting to hear back from somebody to see if it does in fact work for their devices.
[EDIT] it's failing because of my build.prop. Make sure everything is at default before you attempt it

Considering your tablet is not unlocked, afaik there's no other way to update beside waiting for the update to be uploaded to Asus site. For those having an unlocked device maybe someone will make an update.zip to be used with a custom recovery.
Update went fine for me. I'm rooted but have not applied any of the build.prop tweaks yet.
Sure seemed like a big update since all my apps had to re-optimize. Disappointed no jelly, but it would be nice to know what has been fixed.

Hello, I just got the update on my Tf700 but when i try to install it i get an android guy with his chest open. I am rooted but not unlocked.
Maybe I messed with my buildprop? if so how do i get back to default so i can apply the update
thanks!
To those who have problems unlocking or updating... Unfreeze your CMClient and DMClient. I tried unlocking mine and couldn't unlock it. I realized the clients were frozen so I turned them back on and unlock works.
how do you update when you are rooted and unlocked?
Anybody in canada actually get the OTA notification or is this a US only update (for now)?

Try opening your Superuser or SuperSU first, whichever you use. OTA Rootkeeper couldn't restore full root for me until I did that, then it worked correctly.

This is probably why most rooted devices are not receiving OTA, i can verify that I have a US sku, am rooted, locked (unlocking the bootloader prevents OTA), and cmclient and dmclient are NOT frozen (apparently only DMclient needs to be working but i can't verify this). The OTA install worked perfectly for me....manual install from external sd should also work for those of you who are rooted AND unlocked (i used this same process to manually install the last update)....unzip update to external sd, turn off tablet, restart in recovery mode (hold power and volume down until white txt appears in upper left corner), once you are in recovery let go of volume down and press volume up until you see the lovely little android update character thing. The OTA update should then take care of itself.
All the best.
Edit: I can only verify that the manual install works with stock ROM, I have no idea what will happen if you have flashed a custom ROM
No luck here. Neither CMclient or DMclient are frozen. It appears to start the update but then I get dead Andy and when I hit the power button I get:

[Q] Rooted Jelly Bean. Need Advice

So somehow my tablet updated. Now I'm on Jelly Bean but it appears to still have root still and lucky for me I backed up root in case it isn't. My question is should I try to get back to ICS or should I just unlock and get a ROM? What I really want is a functionly tablet but unlock the bootloader is last option. So what should be my next course of action be?
EDIT: wait can Jellybean even unlock the bootloader?

As discussed many times over the last few weeks, the OTA update of JB unroots your tablet. It might still look like you have root, but you don't, no matter if you backed it up or not. Currently the only way to get root back is to unlock the bootloader and follow the JB rooting guide. I completely skipped the rooting step, and went straight to installing a custom rom right after flashing the twrp recovery. Also, there is pretty much no way to go back to ICS, so I wouldn't even bother trying.

Could you elaborate on how there appears to be root and tablet isn't actually rooted?
I ask because I updated to JB through the debugfs method after a failed OTA update, together with the SuperSU+OTA Rootkeeper method. I don't see any signs of not being rooted since I can successfully run Titanium Backup, SwitchMe, etc.

I did retain root with OTA rootkeeper (only when used with SuperSU) after update, and I'm not unlocked.
But I'd also like to hear what j21blackjack has to say about this, so you may want to hold on to your horses for a bit.

Device does not update through OTA

This doesn't seem like a common problem, but I found a few people who got this issue.
My TF700 have been on 4.0.1 and it does not upgrade to 4.1 JB even though it has been released for a week. I have then used the custom method to force update to 10.4.4.16 - JB. However, I know 4.4.18 just came out and I am afraid it still would not update OTA.
Anyone has a solution for this??

Yup checking for update has nothing
Before I upgraded to 10.4.4.16 the device was totally stock, and it just does not update for the longest time.
Since I had updated to 10.4.4.16, I have then unlocked, rooted. No mod, no system app freeze.
Still no update notice for 10.4.4.18

I had something kinda weird happen just now.
I originally unlocked and rooted the moment I got the tablet, and manually installed 10.4.4.16. Everything works great.
I just finished manually updating to 10.4.4.18 and after a reboot, it said I have a system update available, which was 10.4.4.16.....
[/doublerainbowvoice] Does this mean I still got an OTA even though I'm unlocked and rooted?

So I've rooted (the day it came out, so before the first update) and can't update anymore. It'll fail when attempting and reboot me. It wouldn't be an issue but I don't like getting popup reminders about the update. I've searched around but haven't found this issue and am hoping I don't have to reflash the stock rom to update again, I'd also like to keep all my stuff you know. Hopefully someone knows a solution. Unroot, install update, reroot.
How to Unroot:
Thanks shabbypenguin for posting this.
You can manually unroot your Droid by using a root file manager program (such as root explorer) and mountsystem as R/W. Then delete the following:
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/bin/su
and if it has it
/system/xbin/su

Hey there, I had the same problem. Rooted, unrooted, frozen, deleted, restored, couldn't get anything to get JB to work. Eventually just gave up and flashed to stock. Used the amazing Utility presented here
just make sure to gain root access before going to the JB update. there is no present method for getting root on fresh phone with JB update.

Hey guys, I have a question about this update,
My friend has the S3 for whom I safe- rooted, debloated and whatnot. Now that this update came, my friend tried to update but to no avail. She is adamant about the fact that Verizon definitely has something important hidden in the update, despite me trying to tell her otherwise, and figured that she couldn't install the update because she was rooted.
Naturally, I fully unroot her entire phone, uninstall root-only apps, and try the update, but it doesn't work. When the phone reboots for installation, the installation bar loads for a bit, hangs, then just says "error" and does not update.
Anyone know what the problem could be? Normally I wouldn't care so much, but if Android 4.4 is actually coming to the S3 then I don't want her not to have it, and I can already tell it's not going to work if this update doesn't either.
Thank you so much in advance.

Some of the bloatware you removed likely had to be present on the phone in order for the update to take place. Unless you are sure someone is never going to go back to stock without flashing an ODIN tar image and wiping their phone clean, best to just freeze bloatware with Titanium Backup. That way you can just unfreeze it in order to go back to full stock. Unless you have a list of the bloatware you removed and can somehow sideload them back in, you will unfortunately have to flash her phone to full stock VRUCML1 and wipe it clean.

Ah, I see, next time I'm around her I'll re-root it and backup all her stuff with titanium backup, flash the VRUCML1 and factory reset, then restore everything and see if it works.
Strangely enough, when the same update for my Verizon Note 2 came out, I was able to update while rooted even though I unsinatalled theexact same system apps I did on her phone. How strange.
Nonetheless, thank you so much.
I have a question for you all. I took the OTA update for 4.3 when it came out but after that I rooted my gs3 Verizon phone again successfully. Now I also took this last update and now lost root on my phone. I tried to reroot the phone but it fails now. There error I get on safestrap is something about the addresses not being able to be found. Can anyone help me reroot my phone so my apps like titanium will work again?
Thanks

Ok, since I'm not doing the update, how do I get rid of this nagging reminder popping up that I need to update?

I was able to maintain root on the OTA update by having OTA Survival Mode checked on SuperSU.

Looks like the link is broken. I searched the forum and came up empty. Anyone know what the link should've been or how to disable this junk?

I have not yet updated to this new patch yet, am I still able to install saferoot as directed on the thread for it or do I need to do something special first?
