IMHO CM has run its course and is of little use with the current generation of phones anyway. Even the original founder has all but abandoned it. I doubt it will ever return to prominence.

I can't stand the hardware key lights. They do have plans to add the advanced settings menu once again correct?

That guy sounds like a Gnome developer - "Need to remove functionality, lest it confuses the user"

This is kind of ridiculous. The reason they removed functionality was to get the builds up. They're adding it back, along with newer features. Cm is still the overall best thing you can run on your device.

That's good to hear

A) You can't return to prominence when it never left that state to begin with. It is ubiquitous already, and hasn't stopped because of some behind the scenes drama. CM is almost synonymous with Android now.
B) "Of little use with the current generation of phones"? You mean how phones with 2GB of RAM and quad core processors still can't manage to run a simple flash game without lag? Or scroll through a home screen with content on it without noticeable lag? CM fixes that.

Not really what this is about but I like aokp type roms / pa / or just anything with a lot of customization. I'm running cm now and like it but just wish it had more stuff to tinker with....more options

Development will be glorious

All of the complaining aside. If you arent part of solution... *ahem*
In due time Development will begin and we will have lots of fun.
Until then, if you aren't satisfied with su, chainfīre, app freeze, etc - just suggestion - return the phone.
No one holding a gun forcing you to keep. (at least I don't think lol)

No phone/carrier/OS/etc is perfect. You WILL run into issues and complaints no matter what carrier or phone you go to. Fact of life.

+1 ... I am really liking my skyrocket
Agreed. It's taken a few days to adjust to the screen size, but I am really enjoying it. I wanted to get the OG SGS2, but I'm on a bussiness plan and can't get it through Best buy, so I was stuck with it. Overall I'm pleased with it so far.
I too am in love with the phone and the switch from the SGIIS. I look forward to some custom ROM's. Speed is great, screen is simply amazing.
We just need our own forum...

Is there a way to "run" Android 1.0 on the GS3? I was thinking it would be cool and throwback..! :cyclops:

exactly my point!
If even doable many many man hours of work for a port just for two minutes of play time. Can't see it being doable.
I play Nintendo but on my jb phone. Sounds like a big under taking. About as bad as a sense rom.

If you are on an AOSP rom that has Theme Chooser, perhaps there is a classic android theme out there that you can use. In addition, you can use a launcher that appears like the classic android launcher. This way it's relatively less work and the feeling is more or less the same,

I still play nintendo. Emulators don't quite do some games justice.
A more apt analogy would be "Do you still run Windows 95?"
The theme idea is probably best, you get a nostalgic look, but keep the stability and functionality of 4.1 or whatever you're running.
I wonder how many people could be nostalgic for something that is only 4 years old though?

"The phone doesn’t have a home button, a slider-based lock screen, a "settings" tile, or an app switcher toggle. Instead, a user accesses these functions by swiping various edges of the screen."
Reminds me a lot of the BB10 gestures. Did anyone have a look on mashable where they gave 10 people a BB10 to use to figure out very basic things like unlocking and finding apps?
Let's just say the UX may take some getting used to, that being said if the value proposition is there I think people will be willing to go the extra mile for a new experience.

Google are becoming Apple, every new update they've done something to restrict the freedom of the platform or make you jump through several menus to get to what used to just be there, kinda like Windows 8 lol.
After using Symbian on the 808, I just think Android is so far behind it in terms of functionality, Nokia let you do anything, they don't care, though they ditched it now so why should they lol. I wish they didn't ditch it now though and I wish the 808 had newer specs because the browser is so slowwwwww!

With ads forming a big revenue for some many developers Google was contemplating it for a while. I guess it will soon be side loaded ad blockers only. I hope they allow update to older already present ad blockers.
I was using AdAway. AdAway is available in, and even receives updates through the F-Droid app store, so that's what I'll use for the time being.

Ads are part of how they earn money on this _free_ OS and the hundreds of _free_ quality apps in the store.

Yes I actually wrote that down then deleted it again before I posted.
I understand removing from Play as long as those of us somewhat more techminded can still sideload...

Samsung Vs Android

Are you Pro Samsung, or are you Pro Android. I ask this question, because of Samsung's future plans with their Tizen OS. I'm sure everybody knows about this OS. But I'm not sure any of use fully understand what Samsung is going to be doing with it. And what it will mean for Android running on their devices in the future... I don't really see this OS being a threat to Android. But with Samsung's notable market share in the Android landscape, and uninformed consumers. Can it get a strong hold on some of Androids market share.

No it won't android has been out for a while and fixed nearly every bug and tweaked it and made it faster and tastier I think it would be a while until Tizen could actually go head to head with android and ios.

I'd love to have a phone with "easy" hardware, on which one could install Android, Tizen or Ubuntu at will, so one can try and choose the one wich fits better his own needs.
I'm not really interested in Tizen... I kind of wanted to see where people stand on the issue... Samsung has been the top Android OEM, but are we for Android, and just choose Samsung devices, or are we with Samsung, that just so happens to be using Android... And when the time comes, will we stick with one, or the other, Samsung with Tizen, or Android... I kind of also like to see what people think of Tizen... I'm not really sure what to think of the OS. I'll be staying with Android, I know that much...

More afraid of Samsung staying with Android but going the way of Amazon. They want the money from the ecosystem. Wouldn't be surprised if in the future you have to pick a kindle phone, Samsung phone, or Google phone depending on where you want your content and apps to come from. Google Play subscriptions / apps? Amazon subscriptions / apps? Samsung subscriptions / apps? etc
That's why we have XDA

Remember the viability of the OS is almost totally dependant on the catalog of apps. BlackBerry OS 7 & 10 were very functional and secure OS'es but lost their appeal in the market because of the lack of apps. The same could be said for Windows Phone 8 which is much easier to control on the corporate level than either iOS or Android. But IT groups are too scared to give out the phones due to app envy complaints. Tizen could be the second coming but if it doesn't have a catalogue of a 100k apps day one it won't go anywhere.
