I bought the glass and the casing. Has anyone successfully removed the LCD from the glass so that ONLY the glass can be replaced? I'm going to attempt it for giggles next week and could use advice.
There is a post about teardown of both the HD and the HD MAXX in the General section. Not sure if your specific question is answered there, but it's a good place to start. Hope this helps.

Ok, here is what I found. It IS possible to seperate the LCD from the glass digitizer but it is VERY difficult and the LCD needs to be on a no static/clean surface(100% dust free). I took mine apart and successfully repaired it but DO NOT recommend trying it as the process is incredibly delicate and the LCD will more than likely break.

So I'm going to attempt to replace my digitizer for my inc 2 tomorrow morning and I wanted to see if there's anything that I should know before hand. Basically my screen is cracked from.when I dropped it and I have a replacement screen and I found a pretty good tutorial video on YouTube on how to do it. Kind of a sidenote I called a place that does this locally to me and they said that for the inc 2 since the lcd and the screen are glued together which they are that I should have bought a new lcd screen as well even though the one I have now is fine and that one small bend would destroy it. Quoted me 189.99 to fix it and I promptly hung up. So any help is appreciated and sorry if this is the wrong forum
If there glued together you might wanna try a heat gun or hair dryer. That usually loosens up the adhesive and then just put the new one in its place

I have and plan on using a heat gun
Verizon only charges $50 to replace a phone where the only problem is a cracked screen, even if you dont have insurance. I know that that doesnt directly answer your question, but might save you some hassle.

I just want a new glass. My digitizer works perfect so anyway I can just get the glass? I don't wanna spend 200 bucks for a screen and a digitizer. I just want a new glass. Is it possible?
I haven't seen them separately. Not sure though

I haven't seen just the class but you could buy one with a fried digitizer and then just use a heat gun to remove the glass.

I sent mine in to Samsung and they replaced the glass/digitizer for $145.00
I suspect they sent me a whole new phone tho.
Found just the glass on ebay for $20
Ok, so I found the glass only as well but am not sure if that can be replaced without buying a digitizer too. I have a couple deep scratches but nothing is cracked. I just want to replace the glass. Can this be done? Is it glued to the digitizer? I have not been able to find a "How to" showing just replacing the glass.
Thanks for any info.

I replaced with $15 glass from ebay. I used a hair dryer. The whole glass is glued to the display, so it took several hours. Maybe a heat gun would work better. I also chipped a polarized sheet that was between the display and the glass. Touch screen still works, but not as well as it did because of the slight space between screen and glass, if I squeeze it down again and turn the screen off and back on it works fine for a little. Probably would use better glue or something next time.
I just cracked my skyrocket screen and I am trying to decide on what my choices are. Does anybody know if just the glass or glass + digitizer can be replaced without having to replace the whole display?
Does anybody have a good guide for replacing the screen (I've found some videos and stuff but not really a full guide).
Thanks for your help!
I am in the same boat. From what I can gather, a heat gun can be used to loosen the adhesive between the glass and LCD. The problem is I can't find a single vendor or person offering a screen/digitizer ONLY. I found one person selling the glass alone and I dint think that will be enough. It seems to be all or nothing. Incidently, the glass is only twenty bucks. Where the hell do you come up with a digitizer then? My phone still works fine except in phone calls. Some cracks in the glass near the sensor area have it thinking its next to your head I think.

I just bought the glass off ebay, but finding someone with a heat gun and who knows what they're doing... Another story.
My digitizer works, can we get anyone to confirm that you cannot remove the digitizer from the old glass and install onto new glass? I don't want to pay $160 just for the glass screen!
And on a side note, it was the first time to drop my phone, and I swear my captivate could have handled twice the height of the drop.

I found a vendor in California with a white assembly. I.just buying it and doing the replacement myself. 170 is a lot but I can't find a digitizer anywhere and I'm afraid that without that the glass is pretty but useless. If I'm wrong , let me know. I would love to save the money

I live in Texas but I will send it to you if you really can - without a replacement digitizer. I will even donate. But only if you can really do it, I don't want my phone to be the guinea pig!

Did you ever get a response to the glass and digitizer dilema? I am in same boat with samsung skyrocket I727.
Took it all apart and now don't know how to seperate glass from digitizer?
There's a post a few down from this with someone that replaced his screen, maybe he can help.
I also vaguely remember another post some time back about this.. with maybe even a video. I'll check later.

hello, so I dropped my phone and the screen is badly cracked. I'm comfortable with replacing it but I'm wondering if I should just replace the digitizer as the LCD looks ok except two discolorations at points of impact. I'm curious if they could be just due to the pressure from the broken screen or do you guys think I should just replace Tue LCD? Could those discoloration be permanent damage to the. LCD? Obviously,if I can avoid spending extra on the LCD I'd rather do that.
Thanks for any and all advice.
You will need both

Well, at least it'll be slightly easier since I won't have to pry the LCD from the digitizer.
Been there. I ordered my digitizer thinking I could do it. There is adhesive all across the screen. Lightly heated and gently pried apart. But no luck. Ended up destroying the lcd . Had to order the screen LCD pack. Working great now.

Just out of curiosity, is the at&t one x compatible with the S720E lcd and digitizer? I thought the S720E was the quad one x

Is it possible change only glass, by my self, at home. I plan to buy spare part from this link:

It's possible, the display glass is glued to the digitizer. And unless your good with a heat gun I wouldn't try it, you could end up breaking the digitizer
There are several posts that talk about it, just search

Does that mean I will have to apply a screen protector over the glass?

you need to buy the glass and digitizer as a whole unit and replace it. Replacing the whole unit is not hard.
A screenprotector is a good investment nevertheless.
