Since it's pretty quiet here, I thought I might as well share something for others who are looking for a cut-price tablet with a HD display just for general magazine reading & occasional gaming. Got my A700 for about £135 (used), cheaper than an iPad2 (used ones go for £200+) - for the main aim of reading magazines, general web browsing and watching youtube videos + play a few games here & there. I'll be primarily comparing the A700 and the iPad 2 since they are of the same price range.
FYI, I'm still on stock but with the Acer bloatware & Acer Ring all disabled. Launcher is also replaced with Nova Prime.
Magazine reading: 4.5 stars out of 5 for me here due to the HD screen but 1/2 star deducted due to the Zinio app on Android having reduced features compared to that of the iPad (i.e. automatic downloading of issues & low-res magazine covers in the library) and also the 16:9 ratio leaves alot of blank space for the magazine.
Comparing the text sharpness (taken on camera at night so it was abit blurry but you can see how sharp the text is compared to the iPad2, the pixels on the iPad2 are also apparent at this point):

}
Comparing the screen size (note how the iPad2 shows abit more on-screen real estate):
Web Browsing: 3.8 out of 5 stars for me due again to the 16:9 ratio leading to most webpages looking a bit narrow compared to the iPad 2 in portrait mode and it gets worse in landscape mode as alot of the screen is taken up by the address bar & on screen buttons (the experimental quick controls in the stock browser is interesting but there's a slight lag for it to appear leading to me to tapping a few times for it to appear). Some lag is also apparent when opening multiple tabs which seem to be worse on Chrome rather than the stock browser, so I'll be sticking to the stock browser for now.
YouTube Videos: 5 out of 5 for me here. HD videos play perfectly smooth on YouTube and the 16:9 ratio is the key factor here. 720p MP4 videos also play perfectly fine on the A700.
Gaming: 3.8 out of 5 here. I happen to have amassed alot of games over the years and during the early excitement with my HTC One X and I have to say the HD screen makes some games look super low-res e.g. RipTide GP while others like Shadowgun THD & Dead Trigger on Ultra High Quality still runs really well for short periods until it got hot. Unfortunately, for some reason Google Play won't let me install Mass Effect Inflitrator!
Overall I think at current prices the A700 is definitely a buy!
Cons: Though not really Google's fault (could at least let us sort by "designed for tablet" apps) but the developers, the tablet app scene on Android really has to change to be competitive with the iOS though. Facebook on the tablet looks horrible!
On-screen button placement. As a right hander, I would much prefer the buttons to float to the right side in landscape mode, especially the back button so my thumb can reach it when I'm holding it in landscape mode while watching videos.
Google keyboard for tablet needs some drastic redesign. The 16:9 ratio really makes typing a frustration in landscape mode. I'm thinking of Swiftkey tablet but the phone version I had seems to slow down my phone over time & I wonder it would be the same here.
Multitouch gestures like iOS's 4/5 finger swipe to move from app to app is sorely missing here as well.

Alright! My new game has launched! Check it out at the Android marketplace here
So here's the skinny: Tetris Attack meets Bust-a-Move, inasmuch as the clearing and complex combos/chaining function. The gimmick here is that each piece is 2-sided, flippable. You have a lot of control over the gameboard, it gets quite intense once you get used to how it plays.
Here's the other skinny: People don't like to pay for stuff on Android. So we've made this game in two versions: $1.99, and Free. Both are identical, except the Free one has ads (and content unlocks as you play). The kicker? Play the Free version for 10 cumulative hours, and after that not only is all the content unlocked, but the ads will be removed permanently. It will be exactly the same as the $1.99 version. No one has tried this method before, so let's see if it works.
I think those who try this game will have a hard time putting it down, it's done very well on "that other platform" and we have gone to considerable lengths to make this version much more polished. It's quite simple at first, but play for a few minutes and see if you don't get sucked into it as well. Please give it a try and give impressions in this thread - thanks, and enjoy!
That makes sense...after 10 hours, the $1.99 has been (in theory) made up from the advertising (though who ever clicks on those banners, at least intentionally?). Then after the cost of the game was covered by the advertising, why not make it full and legal? Plus you garner customer satisfaction by basically giving away a full game for free. I wish more ad-driven apps would go this route!
Edit: Oh, and grabbing it now, thanks!
Looks good, will give it a try. Nice idea about removing the ads after a certain time played.
Novel concept

thanks for checking it out, everyone!
I was initially rather concerned about the negative impact the ad banners would have on the experience (I hate in-game ads.. like, HATE HATE them) but to my surprise when we stuck them in, they didn't hardly register. I think it is to do with the game design as well, you seldom look at the top of the screen in this game (usually focus on middle and bottom because of how it plays) so it really wasn't very distracting to me.
Yeah this is really just a big experiment. I really just want to get my name out there and get some nice download numbers. The only way that can happen is if people like my game (I think it's a very good game, once you get to know it) and people see that and embrace it. I guess I will find out soon enough, eh..!
sounds awesome love the beta never got a chance to reply back definitely will dl this
well, it's been a hectic day. Reddit took to the game and we've been getting a lot of downloads for sure.. a couple other nice articles popped up giving us some decent exposure as well. Wonder what tomorrow will bring
here's a youtube of the original (lower-tech) iPhone version from last year. Starts out pretty easy going but gets quite hairy about 0:25 in
Display is broken on my mates Samsung I5801, displays everything but the bottom bar, which is just black with the score text overlayed. Game still plays but you can't see what tile is next.

Hello everyone ,
I wanted to share with you our new android VR browser : NOMone VR Browser
It is a side-by-side android browser that enables you to surf the normal internet pages/content while wearing vr glasses. You can use it also for online streaming, reading manga, watching your favorite videos as if your in a cinema! or even working anywhere without laptop/desktop (just your mobile, keyboard and mouse!).
For devices with Gyro sensor, you don't even need the keyboard and mouse. Just slightly move your head( like gaze based apps), put on your earphones and use its button for clicking/ dragging.

The browser is still undergoing heavy development (like making compatible VR keyboard in the next release isA, theater mode for 360 videos and other cools features ), but it's perfectly usable now.
Let me sum up the main current features:
=================================
Gyroscope based pointer. Move your head and use your earphones/handsfree/controller media button to click. You can perform continuous scrolling by dragging to the top/bottom of the screen. You can also use other configurations (like a USB keyboard/mouse using OTG cable, or a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, or bluetooth keyboard/mouse).
From the options menu, use the calibration settings to get the ideal configuration for your cardboard or VR glasses for optimum VR/3D experience.
Bookmarks. Before putting your phone into the cardboard, open all the links you need and add them to bookmarks. This way you won't have to remove it to type url. Do this until the VR keyboard is ready (in next release if Allah wills).
If you have a small screen, try decreasing the browser scale (in calibration settings) to show more content in the same area.
A basic ad pop up blocking is in place to give you less hassle while browsing.
If you have a bluetooth VR controller, use the mouse mode (press "Fn + D"). You can drag continuously by holding left click down and using the analogue stick.
Opening local video files (From the gallery/file manager. Android 5.0 & 5.1 only. will work on all 5.0+ in next release isA).
Keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+tab, ctrl+shift+tab, ctrl+t, ctrl+shift+t, ctrl+w, ctrl+r, esc).
Sign up for a Cloud 9 IDE account. Happy coding.
Install X11VNC and connect to your remote machine using NOVNC.
Install a local server, like Palapa Web-server and install your tools. Now, control everything from the browser.
Known Issues:
-- The normal soft-keyboard is not fit for VR browsing.
-- Can't use the gyroscope cursor to type.
Coming up next:
-- VR keyboard.
-- Theater mode (for 360 degree immersion and more video formats support).
-- Save/Load tabs from last times.
-- Most frequently visited launch screen.
-- Lens correction.
-- Mixed reality mode (have the browser in front of you, but see the camera feed when looking to the sides).
We think the VR Browser is a great idea, but we need you support and feedback to improve it and make everyone's experience a great one. Kindly try the application and tell us what you think.
Thanks a lot for your time and effort in advance

Honor/Huawei phones, especially the flagship models, have kind of made a name for themselves as tech "beasts", jam-packed with the latest technology, cutting-edge hardware, almighty cameras, and fancy designs. I've been using Huawei or Honor phones for several years now, but I'd never call myself techy, and sometimes I'm still a bit daunted by all the advanced tech they announce – okay it sounds super cool, but I won't be needing all that in my life.
That said, for the things I do use my phone for (like taking photos), I'm a bit of a perfectionist. When something doesn't quite turn out the way I want it to, I'll keeping playing around with the settings until the result is exactly how I'm imagining it.
As it turns out, a lot of this "beast" tech was made for people just like me (perfectionists who want things to be just that little bit better) and it's much easier to find and use than I imagined. Here's a couple of super useful features I discovered on the recently released Huawei Mate 20 and Honor Magic 2. I think everyone should play around with them:
Wide angle photography
I'm not a pro photographer, but I love taking pictures – it's a nice way to preserve memories, otherwise I'd forget about all the fun things I did last month! I often find, though, that the camera's view is too small, and I can't fit everything I want in an image. Especially when I'm shooting landscapes, or really tall or wide buildings.
I've tried using panorama to get around this issue, but I always find the stitching is a bit uneven and parts of the photo look really distorted.

OK, so this example isn't quite so bad because I corrected it with some post editing like I do with a lot of my photos (did I mention I was a perfectionist?) But if you've ever tried shooting a street or a narrow stream, or even just try googling "panorama distortion", you'll know what I mean.
Anyway, this is why I'm super thrilled with the new wide-angle lens! As its name suggests, you can see a wider angle of view through it, i.e. you can fit more into the frame. It shows up as "0.6x" on the interface – basically because it's like zooming out to under 1x, as opposed to zooming in to 2x or 5x.
Here're some images I took on a recent trip to China, so you can see what I mean:
https://m.qpic.cn/psb?/V102Zqsi23qjkg/NLxuo5.y1WekWwD7xZ2Q9n.KuqVKdHxcULVy8mH3if0!/b/dFIBAAAAAAAA&bo=NgPWBDYD1gQRBzA!&rf=viewer_4
I know it looks incredible, and even seemingly undoable. But this is real magic – you can see how much more view is included under a wide angle lens. It's really useful for landscapes and architecture, when the scene is too broad or when you can't go too far from the subject. It can actually be used for street photography and portraits too, if you know how. Google it for inspiration, and then you've just got to try it, play with the camera. You might be surprised by how professional the results look!
As I mentioned, it's way quicker and easier to use than panorama too. One touch on the screen will do the trick:
Wrong phone.
Honor V20 isn't capable of ultra wide shots
I don't think the OS / UI is running at 60fps when in 60Hz display mode, if you look at the smoothness of the UI vs the smoothness of 60fps video mode they are two completely different beasts, 60fps video mode just looking through the viewfinder without recording is extremely smooth and fluid, yet the UI is horribly stuttery and juddery, I'm certain Samsung has set the UI to something like 24fps to cause the stutter and make 120Hz look amazing
Take for example gaming on a 60Hz PC monitor with vsync enabled and locked at 60fps, it is very smooth, if the framerate matches the refresh rate you get smooth graphics, if they don't match you get the stuttering and so on
Also I remember my S9 being far smoother than one I recently bought from eBay, I'm certain they've updated it to run at a lower framerate, I could almost swear on it, also I have owned iPads that were super smooth @60Hz
What do you think? Has Samsung purposely messed with 60Hz devices / modes to improve the look of their 120Hz displays?
I think the same, I have used 60hz devices before and they never looked that choppy. Maybe they're using like 30/45 hz instead, but the weird thing is, battery life is barely better at "60hz" than at 120
Interesting. I wonder if there's a way to test this..
Almost impossible to find an app that can display the UI FPS, found this one which seems to think the FPS is all over the place on my S9
