Only AOSPAndroid Phones Lag Free - General Topics

In my experience (which is limited) the only lag free user experience I've had with any Android phone is in an aosp or aokp rom. Does any manufacturer make an out of the box lag free Android phone? I find even freezing bloat does little to cure lag. what are your thoughts?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

if you want a lag-free phone starting off look for a nexus ... that's pure android there no more tweaks than that

I'm vzw so will probably never have another shot at a Nexus or G. E. phone. Can't leave until wife's contract up plus I want to keep unlimited data. Are Nexus really lag free?

Nexus S sluggish?

Do you guys find the nexus s to be sluggish specially within the browser? I find that the nexus S struggles with web pages that have lots of pictures or media content specially with the flash plugging set to on all the time. I haven't root or anything since I bought my phone from bestbuy to try it out the second time the first time the GPS was crappy but this time around its much better anyways does performance improve with custom roms? I want to root and put a custom but I'm afraid best buy won't take my phone back since my carrier is really at&t and having a phone with no 3g sucks balls

First, Gingerbread doesn't use hardware acceleration in the web browser. Second, turn flash to On Demand..that should speed things up some.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
If that is the case then why in all the previews/reviews I see the galaxy S 2 browser performance so smooth even surpassing the iPhone. Isn't the galaxy 2 running gingerbread?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Try Firefox or opera mobile, they're much faster when it comes to loading pages with lots of pics and vids.
I'm using opera mobile, and it's my favourite so far among all the browsers. Firefox is good but it does not support flash.
Dolphin HD 5 looks promising, but still in beta, gotta wait for the official release.

just an off topic question, why didn't you just buy an at&t nexus s? i've found some for as low as $548 shipped (assuming you paid full price @ best buy). Also since you're only using 2G on your Tmo version, at&t should be charging you regular 3G rates.

That is a modified browser apk. The Galaxy S browser is reportedly smoother than the Nexus S as well..small tradeoff for a pure Google experience and they're supposedly working on it for future release.

it is not enabled in stock gingerbread, however samsung has enabled hardware acceleratio in its browsers ( sgs1 and sgsII ).
For the time being, the only application making use of gpu acceleration is opera. (Not the mini version). you could give it a try.
cheers/
+1 on using Opera Mobile. It's nice and speedy.
Because I wanted to try out the nexus s before plugging the money for it, atleast buying it at best buy I'm able to return the phone no questions asked. Also I'm not really sold on android yet since my main phone is the iPhone 4 but I'm getting bored with it at the moment. So far android has impressed me but I'm still getting used to the interface and I do find it a bit quirky at times. In some cases the phone feels smooth and at other times it feels a bit sluggish so that's why I asked if putting a custom rom makes the phone smoother or just gives it additional functionality.

Question
When I do decided to get the at&t version of the nexus s are all GSM roms compatible with it or they have to be specific for i9020a model?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Mine seems to be incredibly zippy. Turning plugins to Demand mode worked wonders for me. My phone loads flash intensive sites as fast as most computers I've used, including flash videos like those on newgrounds. This is also my first Android phone, so there's a tiny chance that I'm exaggerating a little, seeing as how I'm coming from the pain that which is WinMo 6.5.

I hate lag!

I have noticed that my phone is extra laggy since gingerbread. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do about this? I have turned off animations, live wallpapers, and am running launcher pro (which has been force closing a lot). The home screens and app drawer are occasionally laggy, but the browser is really bad. Again, this is the one area where the iphone kicks the **** out of android. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

LG's crappy code is probably to blame. Flash a custom ROM. CM7 if you want extra features. EaglesBlood 2.3.3 if you want stock feel.
To add to that, am I the only one who thinks froyo was smoother and faster?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I was having the same issues. Just last week I rooted my phone and installed xboarder's rom based on the ota update 1.2.2. My runs smooth, and it runs cold even when I play on it for hrs at a time. My phone started randomly rebooting after the official gingerbread update from LG. Clearly LG programmers are incompetent. My phone runs much better rooted. I suggest you do the same.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I am running xboarders rooted rom. Sorry I didn't mention that. It's not like it's unusable or anything. I just hate how powerful these phones are and that they aren't greasy, buttery smooth. I just feel like android in general should run better than it is today.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
What exactly is being "laggy"? Switching homescreens? Scrolling? Opening/closing apps? Other things?
G2X CM7
Try ADW Launcher, I've found it to run better than Launcher Pro.

Try miui or cm. Anything that didn't start life with LG is completely smooth in my experience.

I like Go Launcher...it's really nice on Xboarder rom.
Lag??? There might be something wrong with your phone, cuz this is the fastest phone out hands down, my phone don't lag at all
I recently switched from Launcher Pro to Go launcher. I liked LP but development is growing stale to keep my interest.
None are really perfect but some work better the head others especially at optimizing stuff like switching screens.
I like the Lp widgets but the themes with Go.
AdW launcher has the most options but I can't settle on it for some reason. I bought the EX version.

If you think the iPhones browser is smoother than Android, you obviously haven't used the most powerful Android device to date. The SGSII which uses a hardware accelerated browser. Its browser is the fastest mobile browser I've used to date. It loads pages and flash content twice as fast as my Sensation and G2X. The phone as a whole just feels so fluent. Whether you like Samsung or not, there is no denying they know how to code and optimize Android. In my opinion, they are the best when it comes to optimizing there Android devices unlike HTC and LG.
LG will never catch Samsung in the TV market in terms of display quality and they will never catch them in the mobile market.

G2X is pretty close to Galaxy S2 in general speed but stock browser is far behind. Maybe you should try other browsers like Opera Mobile/Mini and Dolphin HD.

The next update will have hardware acceleration. Ill tell you why it hasn't been implimented yet. It is a lot harder to code a operating system for multiple hardware configurations than it is to code for just one. It takes so many more man hours to figure out how its going to work on current handsets and cuter handsets.
In the end, if Android was only on one handset, it would already have hardware acceleration.

I know it doesn't help you a whole lot but in your OP, you compaired the iPhone to Android as a whole. I felt the need to tell you that it is not smoother than Android as a whole because there is a Android handset that bests it when it comes to overall smoothness, not only in the UI but also in the browser. If you would have said, "this is one area where the iPhone beats the G2X" instead of "this is one area where the iPhone beats Android". I wouldn't have brought it up.
Get it?

Jellybean full of stutters for me.

Even Google now scrolling between cards is stuttering. Droid-Life.com stutters, sipping between home screens or to quick sins page is also stuttering. I thought project butter was supposed to make this phone buttery smooth.
Sent from my MAXX HD.
I would sbf then try again. Jb works great for me.you're the first saying it has stuttering problems.

Try a factory reset first
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
Quick Settings and Manage Pages definitely still stutter as they did in ICS. It's a moto thing, other launchers are smooth.
Everything else seems to be very smooth, for me at least. Is anyone not having those same stutters in the moto launcher?

I'm having the same issues especially coming from the Note 2 damn I should kept my Note 2

Definitely more stutters than there should be on this phone, not sure what's up. Kind of thinking I shoulda got the s3. Usually just on the home screen but sometimes other places too.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
Every time there is a major software version release, I completely wipe my phone to factory defaults & wipe the cache partition.
That way you can at least rule out a "faulty" upgrade.
This phone really should not have any stutter or lag on JB...
Where is project butter in this upgrade?
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
My phone was generally wonky and had plenty of stutters after the JB OTA. I held off for a while but finally did a factory reset last week and it made a HUGE difference. I also use Apex rather than the stock launcher and froze a bunch of bloat.
Sent from my Razr HD Maxx
Stock launcher is worst launcher i have seen in a while. Circle widget and Side settings page is awesome ... but what the benefit if it lags as hell!.. JB update on this phone is a fail. Not sure how it helped us to get better performance.
Google now and the launcher are the main problem...generally speaking, most other programs and animations are *usually* OK. Every once in a while animations stutter for some unknown reason, but is not common. That being said, I don't really see the effects of project butter. Coming from a windows phone, this is not as smooth. I do still love my new phone for other reasons, though.
And if Google and Motorola can't push out an update without users having to factory reset, there is a problem. From a consumer standpoint, factory resets are a huge hassle and commitment of time...it shouldn't be necessary.
Sent from my A500 using xda app-developers app
I think the poster before me is correct about the stock launcher and Google Now. In addition to using the Apex launcher I have GNow disabled. I can feel the Project Butter after being stuck on Gingerbread on my old Thunderbolt then starting out with ICS on my Maxx HD.
As far as people having to factory reset after the JB OTA I don't think that's been the case for everyone. It made a big difference for me, but I agree that I should not have needed to do it at all.

Guys, even after a hard reset, stuttering still present for me... Will at least RSD lite flashing help in getting my device to work as it should?
I am on 4.1.2 JB O2 Germany stock ROM.
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
Update - flashed again, using RSD lite, and still stuttering... Will do it again, with another ROM. Any differences between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 versions of JB?
RAZR HD via Tapatalk 2
This is very strange, mironiko - can you take a video to show us the stutters please? Interested to see on which actions it is stuttering the most.
Don't have a device to make the video... For instance, it stutters in Facebook, during usual scrolling, in Tapatalk, even in Gtalk or other system apps - animations are rather choppy, and I can't really see the Project Butter effect here...
Thinking of flashing Telstra ROM or some other, but don't know if it is gonna make things better... I don't see a reason for O2 Germany ROM not to work as good as the others, or even better, being 4.1.2.
May some app be causing that?
Sent from my XT925 using Tapatalk 2
Ah, I've read quite a few times that Google Currents on the Nexus 7 was causing stuttering if background sync is enabled - do you use this application?
No. Not even Google now. When it comes to Google apps, I only have Gmail, Gtalk, Search, Maps, Street view and Earth.
I really don't know what to do. I'll hate myself if I do a new flash (Telstra ROM, for instance) and a hard reset, and it doesn't help...
RAZR HD via TT2
I would assume everyone has stutters but some noticemore than others.
It is not due to specific apps, it is just apparently poor coding on Motorola behalf, which is a shame I otherwise love the phone.

RAZR Maxx HD laggy after installing a lot of apps

My RAZR maxx HD has started to lag a bit after I installed around 87 apps, is that a lot of apps for the phone, should I delete some? Why would the number of apps on my phone make the RAZR lag if those apps are not running. I've only had this phone for 2 days now.
Sent from my DROID RAZR Maxx HD using Tapatalk 2
Of course I can't say if this the case for you but I think often when people experience lag its related to widgets. Try removing widgets temporarily to see if it does a difference.
The number of apps should not induce lag.
BR.

I currently have 3 widgets running which are HD widget, the Pandora widget, and the Verizon data widget so that I can know how much data I've used. I'll remove them to see what happens.

New phone, laggy...

Hi everyone, I just got the max HD and my complaint is that it feels very laggy Compared to my wife's s3. Thanks!
I'm running liquidsmooth and I really like it so far..... I ran PAC for a few days but it had quite a few f/c's and lockups. I should mention, I've only installed two roms... So Might not be much help..
I had a lot of lag issues with the stock 4.1.2 firmware then installed slimbean and haven't looked back.
Great ROM, very snappy.

Concur on slimbean. I haven't tried anyone else yet and in no rush actually. At some point I probably will just out of curiosity. Anyway slimbean is super nice and much more fluid than stock. I love the idea of the rom being lightweight, still no real sacrifices made. It is also officially supported and with weekly builds. I recommend real dark slim for totally pure black look.
I'm running off Liquid Smooth on my XT926 and it's really smooth and snappy but I'm experiencing problems such as certain apps not working, random reboots, and apps freezing and crashing as well.
Currently running AOKP_xt925_unofficial_2013-07-26 - very VERY stable, snappy and great options/customization
Imo Carbon and Liquid are the best, im on the 7-31 nightly (Liquid) and there is no lag and none of the reboot/freeze issues most of the previous nightlies had. Haven't had a single crash in 3 days
Sent from my XT926 using Tapatalk 2
I recommend to try out the very new CyanogenMod nightly you now can find on the official homepage. It is not the most feature filled room but I am amazed how smooth everything is. This is exactly how stock should ought to have been. So far no crashes or any problems what so ever. If you want more features I recommend something like slimbean but cm is a really good place to start. Cm has demonstrated to me for good that the hardware in RAZR HD is perfectly adequate, if there is any lack it is only because of software.
I noticed you guys have Slimbean. I highly recommend it. I got it running on both of my devices, and If I get this it'll be running Slimbean.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288532
It's fast, sexy and it gets the job done.
I'm also back on slimbean again. There is no fault with CM. For some it will be the perfect alternative to stock. It's smooth and simple. Slimbean is perfect for me. It is also smoother than stock and in addition has a ton of customization options to play around with. I'm currently on the last beta or alpha (I'm not sure) that there is a link to in one of the last posts in the slim thread. Despite the status as experimental, it has been completely stabile since I flashed it. For me it took almost I year before I unlocked (fear of loosing warranty etc.) but I'm really happy to have done it now. It's almost like getting a new phone. I think razr HD development is thriving quite well now.
yep the official slimbean build 8 is now out. super easy to install and manage and i am an amateur.

Just take that ish back my friend and get a new one. I had no problems with mine. Use stability test on play to test processor my MFLOPS was 620. Let the test run for an hour or something. If its messing up post the errors on here. I ran it for an hour on LiquidSmooth with no probs.
