[Q] Unlocking After Changed Mainboard - Asus Transformer TF700

I have a TF700 with unlocked bootloader, however
My TF700 died a while back, I sent in and got it repaired.
They "relocked" my bootloader, and I'm trying to unlock the device again, and
i'm getting an unknown error.
Is there any way to unlock the bootloader again?
Thank you!

I would recommend you try the ASUS site and look for the "boot unlock" utility. You will most likely need V8

bad news
I've got some bad news for you. It is quite possible you won't be able to unlock the device.
I had a problem with spurious touch events on the screen when I held the sides of the device and sent my tablet in for repair. Recently I decided to unlock it and the unlock tool failed constantly. I always had the same network issue. Someone at asus confirmed my serial number was fine but that for some reason my MAC address didn't match in their database.
Because my new tablet was also having spurious touch events I sent the tablet in a second time. Received it yesterday and still no success.
I've seen suggestions that you should try the Asus Device Tracker to see if your info is right in their database. It has never worked on any of my tablets.

[Q] Serial Number Unknown

I've just bought a second hand tf300 of Amazon and saw it still had ICS on it. When I tried to OTA update to JB it wouldn't. Closer inspection showed that in settings status the serial number is listed as unknown. I've now updated manually to JB and CWM was not installed so I dont think its unlocked and rooted. However I just want to run it with stock receiving OTA updates. Any ideas how I can fix the serial number issue or bypass to get OTA?

Here is my guess. You are unlocked. You can't load something like cwm if you're not.
I'm guessing before you got the tablet, the previous owner unlocked it, screwed it up, sent it to Asus for repair, and Asus returned it working, but loaded code somehow to eliminate the serial. This has happened to others, or so I've read. Feel lucky if you're unlocked. Users who have been reporting this problem have said their tablets are locked, and since there's no serial, they can't use the tool to unlock it.

CWM was not installed when I received it but is there any way of knowing if the unlock tool has been run previously? If I'm stuck doing manual updates how long does it take the ota updates to appear for download on the Asus site?

When you boot, do you see "this device is unlocked" in small white text on the upper left corner? that's how you tell.
Btw, unlock doesn't mess with the serial number.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk
The guy you bought it from bricked the unlocked tablet and send it to Asus for repair. They then performed a full reflash but forgot or didn't repair the partition that holds the device ids. You can send it back to Asus for repair and they will fix the serial number issue but even after that you won't be able to receive OTA updates and you won't be able to unlock the device again.

I don't see the "this device is unlocked" message on booting. I tried to run the unlock tool but get an error message. Guess I'm screwed for OTA or unlocking then. A newby question though, if I just want to root (mainly to install adblock and titanium backup, 6 axis etc), do I still need to unlock? If so, will there ever be a root without unlocking ie Debugfs?

You do if you're running jb. If you found a means to do it without unlocking and on jb, please post it, and I don't mean carrying over root from ICS. Some don't have that option.

I think that the best solution for you is to return to Asus your TF300 with the invoice, cause you bought this second hand on Amazon, and normally they should repair it to you without problem.

At the moment, you cannot root only your tablet if it's on JB bootloader.
If you want a root on JB bootloader, you need to unlock before
i have a TF300 that is having the same problem, i can not unlock the bootloader with the asus app... now is there another method to unlock the bootloader?
unfortunately not. You are stuck with Stock.

Can ANYONE unlock these days?

Just got a TF300 (US), locked and running latest 10.4.2.18. Unlock tool gives me the infamous "unknown error" problem (see 40 page thread in Prime section). Has ANYBODY been able to unlock lately on JB? I know the history of possible RMAed devices being an issue, but I have new unit and same issue. Just wondering if I should hang out and wait or know that I'm screwed.
If you've unlocked successfully, where did you get your device, what SW version were you on, and what version of the unlocker tool did you use (I tried v7)?
Yeah,i also cant unlock bootloader too,4.1.1 10.4.2.13 US.this is so crazy.

Anyone know if they (Germany) contact the same ASUS servers that US does when unlocking? I'm still amazed there isn't more discussion on this. Brand new tab and can't even root it....
there were many users with the same problem. Normally it is because your serial is not listet in the Asus Server. So contact Asus and tell them you arent able to get updates(because they will not support the unlock tool). They have to put your serial in by hand another time and maybe you are lucky.

Has this actually worked for anyone?
Is there a good contact at ASUS (Tien used to be one, not sure if still is)?
unlocked on JB shipped
I'm unlocked on JB shipped. I had 4.1.1 but version 10.4.2.9 shipped. I upgraded to .18 when i searched and saw hardly any post talking about .9. A few weeks ago, someone finally posted a straight question on how to root/unlock with JB and someone gave an awesome straight answer and it worked. This was before the new JB root stickies started showing up. I think I used the unlock tool thats in big sticky in the general forums. Its v7, wherever I got it from. My device serial starts with C9OKCT. worked on the first try. Got it from Office depot on black friday. US version.
got my tf300t a few days ago - couldnt get unlocking to work and got the network error issue. Then I registered my TF300T on the asus homepage and sent an email to asus tech help to add the serial number of my tf300t to their unlock database. This monday i used the unlocking tool again and - voila, unlocking worked just fine. btw, my tf300t had ics installed and i upgraded to jb before i used the unlock tool

I unlocked. Got mine with ICS upon release. Upgraded OTA to JB then unlocked.
Just got mine today. Updated to the lastest, messed around with it a bit, then downloaded the unlock apk. Worked fine the first time. I didn't know people were having problems with it, that might have scared me a little hehe. I hope you guys get it figure out soon. CM 10.1 is rocking right now.

I purchased my tf300t from Bestbuy at black friday. I've been trying to unlock without success. I finally registered my tab on the 23rd. I've tried unlocking throughout Christmas break, and now it finally unlocks. So if you guys haven't done so already, register your tab and give it about 3 days.

Says rooted, but no super user

So I have the TF300T Transformer Prime, it has 4.2.1 jelly bean installed, and I was trying to just root the device. I was using the Asus Utility Bootloader Unlock application and now when I boot the device, it says that the device is unlocked in the upper left as it boots. But then I don't get any super user rights when I get into the device itself. And I can't run the unlock application again as it gives me errors regarding unknown network problems, even though I'm connected to my network. After a little while, I did a factory reset on the device hoping that it may some how fix the problem, but to no avail, not much of a surprise really, it was just kind of my hail mary. So that's where I'm at. I'm hoping to get CyanogenMod 10.1 on there, but at the moment I can't even get the device unlocked. Hoping that someone may have some advice.
Also please recognize I'm -very- new to this. Still trying to figure out how everything works in regards to the recoveries and flashing what system files where. So if a responding answer could be as detailed as possible, I would greatly appreciate it, or direct me to some literature would be fantastic.

"Unlocking" the device could mean 2 things
Bootloader unlock - so you can flash custom kernels
Sim unlock - speaks for itself
In your case thats bootloader unlock
In neither of those cases you get root, unless you root it by yourself (motochopper) or you can also flash a custom kernel to get root.

Unlock fails after replacement of motherboard

Hi, I hard bricked my ASUS Transformer TF300T (my fault) and sent it to ASUS to repair it. They replaced motherboard. So now I have it back with fresh Android 4.1.1. I tried to use ASUS' app to unlock bootloader (stock ROM without root is not usable for me), but when I agree and tap to "unlock", it only says "unknown error" and it doesn't work. It also says it might be problem with network, but network is working correctly. I think the problem is related to replacement of motherboard, but I don't know how. Does anyone have same problem? Some advice? Thanks in advance...

You want to use v7 APK. If the device is busy doing something else, it'll return with unknown error. That being the case, you need to wait until after the tab has completed updating all the apps.

When I try it, tablet is doing nothing else. I'm sure I use correct version of unlock app. All apps are updated using Play. It doesn't show updates of Android (it has 4.1, id doesn't see OTA to 4.2). Anyway, thanks for advice...
It was solved by ASUS - I had to write to their customer center and wait little bit. But it works fine now.

The problem was, that after replacement of the motherboard, the tablet was locked. When you use the ASUS unlock utility, it connects to ASUS server and makes there entry, that your tablet with respective SN is unlocked now. It is not possible to relock tablet or unlock one tablet twice. Obviously. But when I've got it back, it was locked, but in their DB they still had entry, that it is unlocked, but in fact I couldn't unlock it. So I wrote to ASUS service and after exchange of several e-mails we found where problem lies and they enabled me to unlock it again.

Hi, I didn't find way how to do it myself. At leas not with 4.2 bootloader. It was done fully on their server side. They confirmed me they correct respective entry in their DB, so I could use the unlock app to unlock it again. I don't have any ASUS account and I don't want any.
On the beginning I wrote them I'm not able to unlock it again after exchange of motherboard. They told me, that in their DB it shows as unlocked - so that I can't unlock it again. After exchange of few mails Czech ASUS support contacted Taiwan HQ and it was done.
Now I'm happy with Baked ROM.

Check your about tablet screen for a serial. I've heard when some get tablets back from Asus, the serial is all zeros or nonexistent which is required to unlock. No fix is known for this to my knowledge.

[Q] Unlocking bootloader - impossible

Hi,
I belong to those who cannot unlock the TF300T bootloader (in my case probably because I sent it once to Asus Repair Center and after getting back the serial number was removed from the device). I've tried to unlock plenty of times with the Asus Unlock Tool -- without any result.
I can root the device and I can flash any factory ROM, downloaded from Asus website -- but I cannot flash any custom ROM. It would be essential since the official ROM (any of them) becomes laggy and slow very soon after flashing and I am tired of flashing and re-doing the setup process every month or so.
The Service Center certainly does not recognise its responsibility and does not want to help.
To tell the truth I could not follow day-by-day the TF300T threads of the Forum, so let me ask: Is there any new method to unlock? Or without unlock is it possible to flash a smoother and quicker custom ROM to my device?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
I have the same problem....
If you are rooted, you could try flashing a custom recovery via the command line, but it will probably not work with a locked bootloader (can't test, I am unlocked).
But I saw several people report that they succeeded with unlocking after contacting their local Asus representative.
Obviously they can request an update in the device database, then the unlock tool works.
Don't give up and keep nagging the Asus guys, till they look into it just to get rid of you!
I'm a member of this awesome non-unlockable group. I hope Asus burns in hell! I've spent the past 4 days and countless hours f**king with this thing. I'm so fed up with these assholes. I'm never using ****ty android again.

Hi.
Are you sure of it? I've bought my tf300t few months ago (it was a refurbished tablet). The unlock tool didn't work for me. Two weeks ago i've sent a mail to asus support and they told me to send them some screenshots (with my SN and mac adress etc.). After that, they updated their database and told me to retry to unlock the bootloader.
It did'nt change anything for me. I still have the network problem. I've tried the asus device tracker website and it tells me that my serial number isn't correct but when i write it in the product registration on asus website, it's automatically recognized as a tf300t and the support told me that everything was ok for them and the guy was able to read informations about my tablet...
Did anybody encounter the same problem ?
PS: sorry for my bad english.

For the TG, for T they just don't support unlocking, the Asus policy is simple now, quantity first, they stop cats about quality and didn't train the support to help you with complex matters, plus unlocking voids the warranty and they are instructed not to help you with it, also rma the tablet to unlock it will cost you 350 euro for shipping, replacing the motherboard, voiding the warranty and all that without shipping warranty and no telling when they will find time to do it, too many defective products

Well... The warranty isn't a problem anymore. It's available only for pair of months now. They knew my tablet was a tf300 T. Different people have been requested in asus support to solve the problem. They have updated their database with the necessary informations... If the app wasn't supported anymore, don't you think that one of them would have told it? I've asked it to the support guy, i'm waiting his answer.... I'll don't let them like this.
I also can't unlock and ASUS refuse to help.
