I've tried CM 7, 10.1 and 10.2 on my Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V).
I invariably get this problem where during calls, the audio cuts in and out (approx. every second word in a conversation is lost). Sometimes there's no sound at all, and I've had incoming calls not get through too.
Also, there are problems with 3g. Typically it doesn't work at all (on CM 10.2 it does work sometimes), and the only way to get mobile internet working is to enable the "Use only 2g networks" option in the Android settings.
In CM versions prior to 10.2, I wouldn't even be able to see any of my APNs in the list, or be able to add any, unless I had selected this 2g option, at which point they would magically re-appear. in CM 10.2 I am able to have APNs in the list and 3g works for a while, but then stops working. Needless to say, I've been double-checking my APN settings.
I've also tried a bunch of different modems, but it makes little or no difference. I got the modems from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436
Any suggestions? I take it that the behaviour I'm experiencing is not normal?
Seems like the radio of your phone is messed up since you've tried many modems and ROMs. Did you get good signals on stock GB?
Yes, confusingly I've got no problems at all on stock roms of Android 2.1.1 and 2.3.6. I've switched between these and CM many times, and the behaviour is completely consistent - calls and 3g are dodgy on CM and fine on the stock roms.
Anything else I can try? I'm in New Zealand, and the phone is imported from Korea I think. It's branded T-Mobile, and is a SGH-T959V.
No ideas? Other people aren't experiencing this same problem though, right?

none here....sorry!
It's a weird problem for sure. I would guess hardware, or a sim card issue. Maybe it's just bad service. Not many people would know if the problem were specific to New Zealand.

Hello all,
I have a Nexus S GT-I9020A which was bought in Canada and want to use in Germany with the German T-Mobile network.
My problem:
After turning the phone on, sound is completely garbled on the first call I make and just silent on subsequent calls. The phone on other side still rings, but nothing gets through in either direction. Rebooting then gets me exactly one more garbled call.
Now, I know that this device doesnt support the T-Mobile/us frequency bands, see this wiki entry. In Germany, however, it appears that T-Mobile uses the UMTS 1900/2100 bands which should work fine with the 9020a. (see this (Wikipedia article). Furthermore I observed that the 3G data connection works fine and switching to "2G only" mode make no difference. The cell reception status bars show a strong signal. Im therefore sceptic that the problem is simply caused by frequency band compatibilty issues.
I am currently on the newest Gingerbread Stock Rom. Also tried Cyanogenmod 9 Alpha, with no difference.
Does anyone have an idea what might cause this issue and how it can possibly be resolved?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Ok, since nobody else seemed to know what I was talking about, it might be helpful to say how I solved the problem: by flashing another radio ROM.
I had been running the default, stock, UCKJ1 radio version which came with Ice Cream Sandwich. After having a look at this Radio-ROM Thread, I installed XXKF1 which is supposed to work for the i9020T hardware as well as for my i9020a.
After flashing this radio, all my problems were gone.
Hey guys, I haven't done anything to my phone but all of the sudden, the data and phone signal basically quit working. I have a very hard time getting texts, phone calls etc to go though but it will eventually (usually takes a while or a few tries) and as far as data goes, I basically have no connectivity at all unless I'm on wifi. It says 3g or H every once in a while, but it's really slow and usually doesn't stay for long. I'm running CM9, and like I said before I didn't change anything that I'm aware of that would have caused this problem. It worked fine before, and it just stopped. Ideas? Thanks

have you called your provider? maybe its on their end.
I'm having the same exact problem... it shows my 3g it shows all my bars but instead of the bars being colored or the 3g be in color is gray. Also I cannot get back conectivity until I restart the phone. Does anybody have an idea what this is?
Are you on AT&T? I was not having any problems until a certain point in time, and I didn't change or do anything to incite them. I'm not even getting calls anymore, I'll just get all my texts in a wave every few hours. My data is useless, it won't stream, or load web pages, and my phone is frequently saying "Emergency calls only" when I'm sitting at my freaking house (which normally has full 3g and cell signal and is very fast)
This just started occuring with my 9020a on AT&T the first week of March. I switched SIM cards twice, spent about an hour on the phone with ATT, and sent the device back to Samsung who rolled back the software to 2.3.4 and the Radio to UKE1.
I still have the issue. Samsung says its not them. ATT does nothing. It;s liek the phone just stopped working, started dropped calls, missing calls, and the internet connection sucks. I have an iphone for work through ATT as well and have no issues with signal.
ANy help is appreciated.
Hmm
Make sure you have the right, most up to date settings for APN, and flash original radios. if it still doesn't work, make sure you have the i9020A, which has the at&t 3g antenna, not i9020T which has the T-Mobile antenna, vice versa.
Have you tried other radios for your device (make sure you flash the appropriate ones for your model)? Any signal info under Phone Information when dialing *#*#4636#*#*?

Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I am having. I switched sim cards, flashed different roms, etc and nothing. (although to be fair, after the new sim, things work better, but still not well) I'm about ready to pop my sim back in my craptivate and just go with that... or buy an iphone off of craigslist.

I am 100% sure I have the 9020a, but I don't know anything about APN and flashing radios. I have only ever flashed full roms before, so I wouldn't know where to look for the original radio.

I have not tried other radios. The signal info seems solid, sitting at my house, but the 3g is still horridly slow. It taked 15-30 seconds to load a webpage, even a pretty mundane one like google. Messages still come through in waves, and often won't send
About your APN, AT&T should provide you with the proper values to put in under Settings | Wireless & Network | More | Mobile Networks | Access Points Names.
If you are on ICS, they values should populate by themselves.
Can you try flashing other radios and see if you encounter the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Make sure you backup your EFS folder (and all data for that matter).
I had similar problems, they were related to turning 3g on/off with a APN widget while the phone had little signal. As soon as started enabling and disabling 3g on the android options everything was back normal.

the data works most of the time now it's just retardedly slow. I can't stream music even on low quality, nor can I watch youtube without leaving it for 5 minutes to buffer, pages take forever to load, and I was downloading a 6 meg app and it took 20 minutes to download whenI was leaving the phone alone and not moving. I got really sick of trying to fix it and finally gave it to geeksquad to send in to get replaced. sigh.
About 3 weeks ago after installing the update of liquidsmooth 4.4.4 i randomly started dropping to 3g service in places that i normally had full 4g available. It has slowly gotten worse to where if im not on wifi, than the phone is pretty much useless. i normally have full coverage everywhere. so i originally thought that maybe something had gotten messed up on the update, so i did a clean install of liquidsmooth 4.4, and blackbird kernal and same thing still occurred. also tried carbon rom and slimrom, and no luck. so for the fun of it, i went ahead and reflashed the phone back to stock from backups and rerooted it, updated the modems and reinstalled liquidsmooth w/ blackbird kernal, and same thing. i have went through all the mobile networks settings and tried everything and nothing seems to help, idk if that update screwed something up or if its an issue that others have been experiencing as well, or if im just screwed and my phone phone is dying.... any help is appreciated thanks

I'm currently running OmniToad, and ran CM 11M8 for a short while. On T-Mobile at least, with the custom ROMs it's normal to see H+ only when data is being transferred; it will drop back to 3G otherwise. When I ran the stock ROM on the Relay, it would always say "4G" regardless of whether it was in UMTS (3G) or HSPA+ mode. Apps like SignalCheck or CellMapper will tell you which mode it is really in.
On the other hand, if data transmission is only going through as 3G, it could be a phone issue or a tower issue. Is LTE available in your area, or are they just getting it set up? I know when T-Mobile was upgrading the Chicago area to provide LTE, there were a few glitches here and there.
It was stupid for T-Mobile to brand HSPA+ as "4G" but that's a different rant.

yea LTE has been in this area for quite a while now, i had it with my S4 and it worked perfectly, i never had a problem with the service on the relay either up untill a few weeks ago the internet speed and and data coverage was great, not quite as fast as the LTE on my S4 but it was still more than adequate, i used to use the hotspot and stream netflix on my laptop. now i can usually get a text to send but calls usually fail and if i try and use the internet its impossible. it almost seems like its doing the exact opposite of what it should be doing, as soon as i try and use anything (not while connected to wifi) than it drops coverage to 3g/edge/ or to nothing at all. Im leaning towards the hardware failing side, but i figured i might as well give it a shot and post it and see if maybe i wasnt alone. thank you for your reply.
small note of background on me: first time posting ever in this forum but have been using the tools and roms from it for a long time, so im not a complete noob, but i definitely still have a lot to learn.
Coping/Pasting from a US Cellular page due to XDA being quite a bit more active. Any help is greatly appreciated.
So I had an old Verizon Galaxy S3 that was laying around, while I was using an old USCC Galaxy S2. Of course I wanted to update, so I picked up a Lollipop rom to tun on the S3 and it works beautifully. Smoothest OS I've had on my phone. This includes custom and/or stock roms. Well, I've been using this rom (CM-12.1) for almost two weeks now, with no issues aside from the normal Camera not connecting, lack of MMS, and no 4G. Camera issues is common with CM12, MMS is just APN settings (I'm hoping), and 4G is due to the different type of 4G radio in the Verizon phone compared to the USCC variant of the S3. I can live without the 4G though, but it would be nice. MMS is kind of annoying, having to tell my friends/family to "send it to me on Facebook". So that's been my experience up until last night...No comes the issue. I flashed a d2usc rom to my d2vzw device last night, and everything went smoothly (aside from the normal issues I mentioned above). It connected to 3G without me having to adjust/change any of the APN settings. Sadly, this rom was QUITE unstable. Programs freezing up and crashing left and right. So I ended up going back to my original d2vzw rom. Now...I can't seem to get it connected to 3G. I can text and make calls just fine, but no data. Every time I attempt to edit the APN settings, nothing happens/connects, or the APN setting i'm working on gets deleted. I've noticed that on the APN setting websites I've found, that there is one setting that is different than mine. Where it tells me to change the MMC, I have MCC. Everytime I change the MNC setting, the APN gets deleted. Let me know what information you need in order to help me get this issue resolved. Thanks for any help in advance!

Sorry for the long post
I’ve had the 1+ since 2014 now, I am rooted and have used various Android 7 and 8 (recently) roms on the device until recently (probably 7 months ago) my 1+ started playing up. I would not get any signal whilst at work; although the building I work is generally poor with mobile signal however I use to get just enough signals to receive a call.
About 7+ months ago this started fading and I would get 0 bars, at first I thought it’s a modem issue so I tried all the different modems and made notes on which one was the best but in the end none of them helped with the situation. I then did what most people do and googled the issue and found that there are lots of other people with similar issue with the oneplus one not working on LTE, many suggested to make sure I visit the engineering menu *#*#4636*#*# and change the connection to LTE/GSM Auto (PRL), however this was already set and yet it was not making any difference. The main issue was not being able to make or receive calls when the device is connected to LTE.
On the odd occasion I was able to make/receive all on LTE when leaving the building but it would be not stable, at times I would get a call but people could not hear me, then sometime I would dial out and the screen would be stuck at “dialing” and nothing would happen. Then I would try few times and it may work or not work at all. So I switched to GSM only (via the secret menu) and the phone would work perfectly, no issues calling out at my work desk or outside and getting all calls without any issues. The issue with this was that on a reboot the settings would go back to LTE/GSM so it was a constant change. On top not being able to use 4G Data speeds was making life harder.
Even when selecting 3G in network settings the phone would not switch to 3G only. I also tried different network provides like 3 UK, Vodafone but still the same issue.
I’ve now come to a conclusion that this is something software related (perhaps?) as the device is failing to switch to 3G when making/receiving calls. When I check the secret menu I see that DATA and VOICE connection is LTE. Now I know this device does not support VoLTE so I thought it would always first aim to connect to 3G signal?? NO?
As a result i’ve moved to Pixel 2 device because I tried everything from different roms to modems, going back to kitkat, CM12.1 and 13 as well as Oxygen OS but was still getting the same problem.
I’ve also come across posts (on google) that people with different oneplus device are suffering from this so not sure if something has been switched on/off on my phone when flashing different roms to have caused this issue or is this a hardware problem?
I’ve spent numerous hours trying different things suggested by many on google but haven’t got anywhere. I have given up trying to get to the bottom of this.
If anyone is out there who have had this issue and have found a solution please let me know, I still very much like the oneplus but with this issue it’s hard to use the device.
Thank you for reading…..

I can relate to you. have similar issue and also tried most of the things you have done. don't know what to do. if you have found something, then reply.
I think I have the same issue here in Italy too.
I tried all modems in the list and downgraded to kitkat but with no luck.
same issue reproduced on lineage os 16.0 India /Airtel

No calls incoming/outgoing over LTE network lineage os 16.0, when changed to 2G network calls works just fine
while LTE no issues with Data connectivity .
any luck for anyone.
Thanks
I don't have the phone anymore (in fact, the same issue made me get a new phone), but maybe try updating the modem?
