Hi guys, quick question
I have backed my phone up with titanium Backup, if I was to lose all my data how would I be able to re apply it? Would I just log in to titanium with my user name and upload everything??
I have looked at forums for the answer but have had no luck,

Titanuim backup is an app. If you make a backup through this app it will back everything up into a folder on the SD card.
When you perform a factory reset it will wipe everything except whatever is on the sd card.
So after the wipe, install titanium from the market, and restore all the apps.
if your going to format the sd card, copy over the titanuim backup folder onto your pc or upload to dropbox or similar. Format the sd card, copy the folder back over and restore.

With out sounding to thick what I would do..
I dont have an sd card in my phone, so if I lost everything then how would I be able to get my details back on my phone?
Can I not just copy everything and put in in a folder on my computer, if then I lost all data I could then transfer it back to my phone from my computer
I did a superboot yesterday ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831 ) and when reading other topics about rooting they always tell you to back everything up...
Whats my best option?

sorry im confused ? Are you using the One S now ?? or are you trying to back up files from an older phone to restore onto the One S ??
it doesnt matter if you dont have external sd (One S doesnt anyway) it will be backed up to the internal SD.
All you have to do is plug in USB and tranfer from old phone > PC > New phone

It is best to do a nandroidbackup. You can make a nandroidbackup in the recovery menu. When you have made this backup, you have copied everything on the phone as it was when you started the first time. To make a nandroidbackup you must have CWM (clockworkmod).

To back up full rom..like everything,as the post says above you would boot into recovery and back it up that way at the moment due to not having official clockworkmod..dont know if it is yet,but you can do that way.itll save everything just as you left it.
titanium back up will save apps and there data..
and can save the way you have saved your settings etc.
itll save your profile without needing to login.then click on options..then batch if its apps.or if its system data and apps choose that option.
beware though if you got 100 apps youll be there for a good ten minutes reinstalling lol.
(note--asop isnt around yet fully but dont restore system data from sense roms to asop and vice versa itll just mess your system up)
your external storage( will never be touched with relation to flashing roms etc.the only way it can happen is if your a complete numpty and select that option yourself.
best way to be honest is just play around with titanium youll get the hang of it

if you every run into a problem that cannot be fixed, restoring the nandroid will put your phone back to the state it was in when you made it..

Thanks for your patience, when I go in to Rom Manager I click on backup current rom, it tells me the date and time, I then click ok, the phone then restarts, when I look in manage and restore backups it's just blank??? I am using Rom Manager v5.0.0.6, is it better using a premium Rom Manager as I also have rom toolbox, when I click backup on this one it says that I must upgrade to be able to do this..

No mate far as im aware rom manager isnt supporting the s yet,the cwm had issues,youll need to switch off and boot into bootloader then choose recovery from there then into cwm then back it up.
switch off,hold volume then power till bootloader rocks up..choose recovery then your in clockworkmod then back up
+1 to that !! also, if you have root (i assume you do with having TiBackup) you can use quickboot - available on market for free, it will allow you to boot into bootloader, recovery, without having to do the button combo

No, just turned the phone off, turned back on with vol down, scroll down to recovery then pressed the power button and the phone just turns on,

Have installed quickboot, when I click on bootloader it takes me to the screen, I then click recovery and.....the phone just starts, I tried the other way in quickboot..pressed the recovery button and .......the phone just starts..arrhhh
did you flash the custom recovery ?
Sounds to me that your install of cwm went wrong? Although how are you rooted if it did...strange daft question inbound...you followed all the steps?

Just curious if I put on a custom Rom if it will erase all my pictures and music from internal sd. Also are both cores on the processor working on custom Roma. And any suggestions on a Rom

I just rooted and flashed ROM last night and all my picture are still in.

No, nothing from the sd card, whether external or internal, is ever touched. Only files in the Root directory altered. yes, all roms as far as i know use both cores. There are many great roms, check them all out and chose the one you like
When installing a custom Rom, flashing recovery or unlocking bootloader the sd card will not be touched. However it is recommended to do a full wipe when installing a custom Rom aroma installer normally asks if you want to do a full wipe what I would do if I was you is : root The phone install titanium backup ( on stock Rom) make a backup put the back up onto ur computer and use drop box too if you want to then install a Rom I recommend venom Rom its really good. Then once your on it get the titanium backup file off ur pc and put in the phone and restore you are back exactly to how it was before including pics messages save game data etc

i also copy my nandroids to that backup on the pc as i make them
Hello I wonder if making a full phone backup to PC's hard drive would be possible...I mean something similar to Acronis trueimage of Windows partition...but do this on phone with exclusion of the main firmware. Because of no SDcard slot I need store everything to connected PC HDD...
Looked at TitaniumBackup which probably is close to what I need but I'm afraid it lacks support for storing to networked location. Any working solution is highly appreciated

Take backup using Cwm and u can reflash it using ir phone again.

You need to root (gain root/superuser access) your device and install a custom recovery. Clockwork Mod is one of the (CWM), TWRP is another (having used both, I prefer TWRP - but you can try either/both yourself). You can then copy or cut the backed-up files from the recovery's folder to your computer.
Thanks, probably give it a try if anything else fails. Would it be possible to mount a windows shared drive to phone's internal filesystem? So that TB could access it as internal folder...

This works for SDcard, however the condition to backup directly to my PC's hard drive is not met
Remember I suffer with lack of space on builtin SDcard so I need to exclude it from backup process at all even as temporary location.
One more question about CWM, where can I find the latest version? I have 6.0.1.2.

Yeah, you need to be able to access files in the phone not on sd card, the phone has a seperate memory he wants to access, I think he is asking how to put the phone (everything) onto PC.... im not sure how to do this myself but I will look into it for you, I believe you can access that info but im not sure where the files you want are.
The backup is saved into /sdcard/clockworkmod/blob/ but the problem I have with it is that used soace in internal memory is over 1.5GB while free space on Sdcard is usually several 100s MB...

I need to return my Note for service and I was just wondering, what is the best way of doing the backup of all the data in the tablet.
I have few games with SD Data downloaded and few games I want to save the savegames and game data and also few apps with the informatoin edited in them (it is approx 8gb of data all together).
I have only 2GD sd card so backing up to SD is not an option.
I would like to retrieve these games and apps in the state they are now when I will have my tab back (current with memory cleaned or new one).

Carbon backup lets you backup app data to the cloud as well as restore from cloud storage..... but....... you have to purchase the full version to restore from cloud.
Carbon does not need root but you do need a computer if you don't have root.
There is one thing I don't understand....... you have a $500.00 tablet right?
So why don't you just buy a 16gb micro sd card they are only about $15.00.

once done backing up restart tablet
plug your tablet up to your computer
transfer the backup files folder to your computer.. done
Now when you get the tablet back.. copy the backup files back to the device and Restore thur Recovery..

I need to do a factory reset (to see if it solves a problem that Asus could not solve) and in anyway I read it's safer to wipe data before sending to factory for repair.. So I'd like to make a full backup before this wipe and before the sending to repair..
I installed free Titanium backup (my tablet is rooted), but I'm confused on what I should do before doing the reset and the tutorials I found on Titanium even confused me more..(if you're aware of a nice tutoriel, link would be welcome, because I found none very explicit on xda and even on the web..)
-first, should I use the Asus tool for backup or Titanium ?
- Should I perform a full backup of apps only or apps+system ? I read that system restore could create issues in case restore is not done on same firmware, and I don't know with which FW my tablet will come back from repair.. so should I use apps+system anyway, or make 2 backups (apps first then system or vice versa ?) I'd prefer to restore my tablet as clsoe as it is today, even if possible with bluetooth pairs and wifi connections..
-Should I backup manually my personal files (videos ,various docs, pictures,..) before using Titanium ? (for instance to save space and make nbackups smaller?) If yes, how do we know which folders are backuped up by Titanium and which are not ?
- My sdcard is already largely used with only a few GB left. Can I ask Titanium to save directly to a PC ? Or should I use another sdcard (but then, what will happen to apps installed on sdcard ?) ?

There are several different options for you to choose from but I will share the way I usually back up my tablet. I flash different ROMs frequently and have had to use backups quite a bit.
I usually use Titanium Backup to backup everything but only restore non-system apps and data. You're right that restoring system data can result in problems if restoring to different ROMs, not necessarily firmware. It depends on how much the firmware has changed. Since there might be big enough changes that it might screw everything up then I'd avoid restoring system apps and data. If your tablet is backed up to Google, it will sometimes keep the WiFi and Bluetooth pairings and restore them once you log back into your Google account. Not always though. Also I'm not sure that the free version of Titanium Backup can save any place other than an SD card. The paid version can save to Dropbox and Google Drive.
If you're sending your tablet in for repair, you should move all of your personal files to your computer or SD card, deleting them off the tablet. At least, that's what I'd do.
There is one more option which would make saving a lot easier and that is if you have a custom recovery installed like TWRP or CWM you can create a Nandroid Backup of everything, System, Data and all. With all your pictures, etc the file would be huge but you could move that to your computer and restore it when your tablet comes back. That would keep an exact copy of your system and replace whatever ASUS does to it with what you currently have. If I wanted to keep my tablet as close to how I set it up, this is what I would do. Of course, your tablet has to be rooted and unlocked to do so.

Regarding the TWRP custom recovery, I understood that since I am already with FW 10.4.4.25 (android 4.1.1) and only rooted, there's no way to install customer recovery. Did I understood properly, or is there a way to downgrade to previous versions first, istall custom and upgrade again back to current FW ?

You could make as many backups as you wanted. Titanium Backup allows you to restore whatever you want it to so you really only have to make one backup. You can restore everything but the system apps and data or everything. You can even use it to uninstall or freeze what you're not using (as long as it's not an integral part of the FW of course). It's not an all or nothing deal. I would still move all of your personal data to a computer or SD card so nothing happens to it.
My understanding is that installing CWM or TWRP require your device to be unlocked using an app that is provided through the ASUS website. Just being rooted isn't sufficient. If you don't want to unlock your device then you're stuck with using the Titanium Backup method. Just make sure it is saving your apps to an external SD card and not the internal one.
And yes, I was referring to the setting that you already have checked about Google backing up your data. It doesn't always restore everything though so you might have to pair everything again anyway.

I don't think it is a good idea to install a custom recovery if you are about to send the tablet to Asus - I assume for a warranty repair. You would have to unlock your bootloader and that negates your warranty. So just forgettaboutit.
Google backs up some of your data: Calendar and contacts mainly, but also all the apps you have downloaded or bought from the Play Store.
But it is much faster to restore apps with Titanium instead of downloading them from the Play Store.
So backup apps and data in TiBu and move the backup to your PC.
I don't quite understand why you want to backup system data. It's always potentially disruptive to mess with system data yourself. And you are on a pretty old rom and bootloader - so you're due for an update anyway.
Pictures, videos etc, I would just move to an external drive/card or your PC.
When you got everything backed up, do a Factory Reset. That will wipe your data partition.

You're right. I was asking this for future, when tablet comes back from repair: at that time, I might want to have a stronger debug/backup using a custom recovery (at least that's what I understood it's very helpful at): I'm soon at warranty end, so I can wait expiration.
It's a good news that the unlock tool of Asus can still be used to allow installation of custom recovery. I'll need to read more on how to do it, etc.
