So I just preordered mine but it is available in four different colors, comes with a headset adapter and if you want for $10 more you can get a holster with a total of $89.95. Also looks like they're shipping on the 19th.

Can't wait to read your honest review. The s3 wasn't all that great from the reviews. Hope they made the s4 one better

I ordered one as well. If it works as advertised, it will make the S4 better than the S4 Active in the "everything proof" category. I will post my opinion also after I get a chance to use it for a while.
Im ordering one when I get paid friday

Nice.. but $80?
It's two pieces of plastic.
Does that include some sort of insurance if the two pieces of plastic fail?

Two pieces of plastic and all the waterproof membranes. You're paying for the R&D as well as the quality nof a name brand. It's cheaper than the otterbox armor cases go for as well as lifeproof cases. If it's too much buy a cheap one from ebay and after you submerge it in water and your phone is garbage buy a more expensive case for your new phone.

If you have a couple of days to read this, here is my thoughts (LOL)...
Well, you are correct there is never a 100% guarantee, even if 99% of the units work great 1% might have problems. It reminds me of the S4 Active. The difference is that $90 for this case is a lot cheaper than taking the same gamble for a $600 phone. At least that is the way I look at it.
I'm just looking to use the case as a "what if" type of protection. Hopefully, it will be a lot better than that. I hope it will be good enough to take into the water and take pictures with or drop the phone from chest-pocket high and not have a scratch, but I'm not going to expect it to be that good until I test it to that point...slowly. The case's rating is better than the rating of the S4 Active, but that is only as good as the smallest defect might let it be.
I have square trade insurance, but I would rather not use it. I don't want to take the chance of getting a phone with MF3 as a replacement or even having to re-setup a phone that has MDL. To me, the $90 is worth the extra protection. So even if it doesn't stand up to the ideal standard, it will still be worth it for the extra protection is does give.
You see, I know the case I have on the phone now will not protect it as good as the OBEX will... I currently use the Seidio Surface and it is a real good case, but even if it only lives up to half of the hype the OBEX will protect it better.
Again, it will be a "wait and see" situation as to how good it will work. Maybe I won't throw it in the water right away, but it is nice to know if I accidentally drop it in the water that it should help.
One of the major things I want to know is how well it will handle heat displacement. Under normal conditions, my phone never gets real hot, but in my ibolt car cradle, charging with the sun hitting it through the windshield and using Navigation, it is a different story. I want to see how it handles those situations. So for me, inside forces are going to be more interesting than how it protects from outside forces. But, I will report what I find out.
I like the previous poster's thought process. I have a S4 with ATT and bought the S4 Active the third day it came out. I never used it outside of the house because there were no cases etc for it. After a week or so I started seeing reports of issues. Since I spent $640 on that phone, I thought I could do everything right with this phone and still have it get ruined by using it in a manner that they promote. I returned it after a week.
I then bought the Lifeproof case for my iphone 5 and it was amazing. I was taking pictures and video in the pool! My wife has a S3 and we bought her a Lifeproof case for our beach vacation. I was great having our phones (left my S4 at home) on the beach and the sand and in the water. Of course we tested the cases first underwater without the phones like they recommend.
I will seriously look at the Obex for the S4. The S3 model was too big and they say they have slimmed down the S4 model. $90 is great for the peace of mind near the pool or water which we are almost daily living in Dallas. Not sure I would leave it on all the time but surely on the weekends so hopefully it is fairly easy to put on and remove.
With the money from returning my s4 Active I got a S4 Google Play edition which is an amazing device! That is another post though...

Thanks.
I have the ST warranty as well on my S4 and my wife's S4 Active. I do like the idea of being able to take pictures under water, but the biggest benefit for me would be the dust proofing. I can't stand the lint from jeans pockets mixing with skin oils and getting jammed in every nook and cranny on a phone. It is gross, and eventually eats away at the finish.
I do understand the fact that we would be paying for R&D, and I am no enemy of companies making a profit, but from the consumer side (at least from my point of view) $80 is a bit steep for a couple pieces of plastic that 'may' protect your phone under water.

It is a lot especially since I already payed a good amount for an Otterbox. But my daughter put a cup of juice on my night stand once while I was sleeping didnt know it was there and knocked it over on my droid 2 and it ruined it. I went 4wheeling with my s2 and sunk my quad with my phone in my pocket in a river and it was done for a week and then I was lucky enough it worked again but after a few months started having problems. So its worth it to me that I know if something haopens my phone will be ok. And its cheaper than paying for insurance and a deductible if my ohone got destroyed.

True.. however don't you also need the insurance in addition to this case if you live such an active lifestyle?
I am not knocking the need for the case. I just don't see the company selling all that many at that price tag. Surely they could easily cover R&D with quantity. There's maybe $5 in materials in it... purely from a business standpoint, for a more attractive price they can lure people away from the cheap knock-offs.
the case does look pretty solid, though. I doubt there will be many complaints about the quality.

I see your point brother, but I know I'm getting it after I see a third party stress test it before I pay for it.
I work for a cell company and the case we sell the most is the lifeproof and the Atlas (also $89.99 price tag) , and at least 50% of my s3/4 customers want that option, of course I live in a rural state so lots of hunters and outdoorsy types, but point is there is a demand for them, I want mine for the waterproof, me and friends regularly go to the river on days off.

In general the Obex for the S4 looks better than the one for the S3.

I've got my S4 in the Seidio Surface and with the Convert for outdoors etc. Would love to get the OBEX for those water days, but being that summer is almost over and wont see much water here in NY except for rain and snow I'm having a hard time justifying another $90 for case and holster when I already have 2. All I'd be adding is waterproof. My Convert already protected me from a 6 ft drop to cement floor.
Also thinking for those that are planning this as weekend case, what effect adding and removing the case so many times will do to its waterproof capabilities.
I just got an email saying my case has been shipped. Hopefully it has actually been shipped and not just a label made up waiting to be shipped next week like they originally said. I would like to get it before Wednesday because I'm going to the shore for a few days. It would be nice to have it.

I wouldn't try it. Every time you remove the batter cover, you'll have to reapply. If you keep your phone in your pocket, who knows when that stuff will wear off the phone. Just look for a water proof case, if your afraid of getting your phone wet.

This is isn't true for Liquipel. Their technology works a bit different in the fact that they ionize the phone in a vacuum with the chemical they use for waterproofing by releasing the chemical then release the vacuum so it bonds itself to every nook and cranny the phone has, making a waterproof bond at (I believe as far as) the atomic level. Very interesting technology... Though, it does NOT make the phone capable of just being completely submerged into water without being affected. They still recommend letting the phone dry out if it is submerged, but the water itself won't affect much. Hence they're "worry free" motto.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... I was just curious to see if anyone had any personal experience with the products?
It's not like I'm particularly worried about my phone getting wet, but over the years I have spilled water/drinks on various phones. Fortunately, I've never had one suffer any kind of permanent damage.
Also I'm not too keen on stuffing a phone that has it's thinness as one of it's features into a bulky case.

I personally haven't, no, but people have been raving about liquipel since CES saying it's the best behind actually getting a waterproof case.
I also contacted them a few weeks back wondering if they will liquipel Skyrockets even though they're not on their phone list and they said they will. All you have to do is select a phone on the list and state that you're knowingly sending a different phone in the notes. I'm tempted to get it done, but I need to wait until I have a SR that isn't so jacked up with these screen lines.. Haha

Used otterbox defender before and it is very water resistant but no means water proof.
I have used it during heavy rain without setting the watermark-void my warranty trigger. Even with a waterproof cover not sure I would take it 3ft below sea level snorkeling.
But maybe liguipel and an otterbox commuter would be a lighter alternative

You guys need to check out lifeproof. Much better case, its waterproof; not water resistant like liquipel and aridion or p2i or hzo. This is the ONLY way to protect your phone from the elements.
demonstration at the beach for more information.
We resell these cases to small dealers @ $60.00. They retail at best buy for $79.99. We retail for $74.99 + shipping. 305.349.3678.

Wow, I didn't realize this service was offered anywhere...without a case anyway. That's pretty impressive, although I'm not sure I'd ever fully trust submerging my phone. It would be great in case of an accident.

A couple months ago I dropped mine in water for a few seconds with a regular case and rebooted it a couple times before taking out the battery, then blow dried it immediately for a while on high heat and left it out for 8 hours before putting battery back in, then used it the whole day and it still works perfectly haha
I was wondering if this is really "long lasting", ....I remember there was nano coating for cars and it disappears after a while.
I believe that it works but does it work one year after ..or two?
They promise (liquipel) a lifetime more then the gadget itself, but this I don´t believe.
I found some other stuff, regarding making electronics water proof, a german engineering company liqui-tech.de
they recommend liquipel but offer something similar, but to protect the gadget you have to disassemble. Not easy to get it back assembled .
But much cheaper, a can for 14€
A zip lock baggie and you're good to go! Cheap too

We know from the Technobuffalo teardown video that many components are extremely easy to replace, but it is also noted that the Gorilla Glass 3 could be extremely expensive. So the question is, for a $650+ phone, what are your thoughts on insuring it? Are you going to risk it or go with a squaretrade when they give a 30% off code, even with the $99 deductible?
the other parts are never a problem the real problem like you said is the screen which is very expensive so if u can be careful around the phone no need for insuring it anyway for me i never need insurance since i always take good care of my phone=my love XD

Definitely not worth it in my opinion. Squaretrade has a $50 deductible too.
Take care of your phone, it's as simple as that. My iPhone 4 fell a few times, but I had a pretty light case from Speck and a screen protector.
Zero scratches and zero dents.
Also do note, after 2-3 years, most people will be upgrading their phone.

I agree but accidents do happen. My GS3 had been in a case from day 1 with screen protectors etc, not a scratch on it. it fell from my lap onto a concrete floor, the case protected it, not a scratch. within 2 hours the screen was turning black because the fall had broken the lcd on the inside and the fluid was leaking out. I got the screen replaced (using the same glass) and it still looks like it just came out of box. I know it was an unusual case, but it does happen.
btw, the squaretrade deductible is $99.
Samsung tends to have very rugged build quality. I can't speak for the S3 as I've never had it, but I have a GS2 for a couple years, no case no protection, I dropped that thing so many times from all different heights and on different surfaces such as concrete, wooden floors, tile floors etc, my phones tend to get abused, and it never broke from any of those drops. Just a bit of barely noticeable scratching on the back plastic and around the edges of the phone. If I decide to get the S4, it's going to be treated just like my S2 was. I've never had the need for insurance and I would not get insurance this time neither.
I don't think the insurance is necessary given my experience, but, it's your call. I think you will be just fine without it providing you take care of it.

Ill second that. But the S2 ( I9100) is the most sturdy Samsung smartphone of them all by far. That thing is nearly indestructible. I dropped it, it slews on its face. dropped it again from different heights and I never even had a scratch ( seriously). However the S3 is total opposite. While it's a great phone as far as battery life, user experience, support ah blah blah, the phone is so fragile. You drop it once and it's a wrap. The Note 2 is pretty good, much better than the S3. But yeah, the S2 has really strong plastic and the front was also very strong.
You can be as careful as you want - and accidents can still happen. I purchased the S3 and the NOTE2 when they first came out - and when traveling - moving thru airports each time, the phone slipped - landed just right and cracked the screen. I would never buy a phone this expensive without having insurance.
Let's say you insure your S4 with Asurion and after about a year you drop the S4 and the screen breaks. The S5 is already released so would paying your deductible get you an S4 or S5? After about a year of owning a device I begin being more careless about it, not that I don't take care of it anymore, its just I don't baby it anymore.

Yeah i am debating the insurance myself. I am extremely good with phones and repairing them but accidents do happen. My wonderful wife decided to start fostering dogs and one of them picked my phone off the table and bit practically through it. Samsung galaxy s2 screens are super expensive can't fix it for that kind of cost.

I get insurance for a year through square trade. For as much as I enjoy using my phone, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I only keep phones for a year max so moot point after that.
I also don't like having to worry about screen cracks or accidental water damage.
Plus, tech is a hobby of mine so I spend a little more than an average consumer and don't mind the cost.

Well, I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active onto a concrete sidewalk. I am not as careful as I should be since I would drop my SII without worry since I had the Ballistics case on it. My new Active had no case. It fell directly on a corner, and of course missed the hardened rubber/plastic part and hit the outer metal shell directly. It knocked a snap out of the bottom right corner opposite the impact point. I took the case off and installed it again and everything snapped in normally.
My screen is fine and everything works normally. Aside from asthetics, nothing is different than before the drop. I have read about some regular S4 screens breaking from far less. Maybe there is something to the "rugged" nature of the active.
Anyways, a picture is worth a thousand words so here are four pics. My first time uploading pics here so hopefully they turn out ok.
Ouch! My sincerest condolences.
I would be terrified while picking it up..

It's not a rugged phone ladies... It's the same as an s4 just water and dirt proof.
You drop it and it will break just as easy as a regular s4.
Ouch!
Ouch that sucks! Yeah I just got my Active today and I need to get a case and screen protector ASAP.
I didn't think this phone would be drop proof. It was advertised as waterproof/dustproof.
At least the screen is not cracked.
Ouch! At least a case will cover the damage and the screen is not cracked. One of the reasons I returned mine. It is a bit slippery. The ATT manager asked why I was returning it and I said no cases, no support and he scoffed at me. I then asked him when is the last time a Galaxy Device was launched and cases were not available on that day at the store? Even my captive had a case at ATT the day I bought it...It has been over a week and you can't even get an overpriced cases from ATT? No thanks.

That is what I was thinking. With a case it won't even show. I did buy the Best Buy protection so supposedly I can get unlimited exchanges but still...
I know it wasn't made with drop protection, but it did hold up pretty well. If a case ever comes out I will have no worries at all.
I dropped my s4 in a puddle 2 days ago fully submerged and my heart sunk. Ripped it sort let it dry. Used some alcohol to get water out and it works fine. Not an active though.

people will do amazing things to get what they want. that said, perhaps food ought to be prioritized over cell phones/random crap you want. how did you break 3 s4's? you must have the worst case of butterfingers ever. i usually buy mine off contract or unlocked, but i have yet to accidentally destroy any cell phone. not everyone has the money to shell out for new stuff whenever they need it.
fortunately i dont have to worry about money, ever, but i still take very good care of whatever i have, and i have learned not to lend things out or let people use my stuff (especially drunk friends and cell phones or idiot friends and new sports cars).
seriously, how did you manage to break 3 already? i know one guy who drops his iphone about once a week.

Sounds like the case of "I haz monies." Paying full price 3 times sucks really really bad. I would hope you mean breaking the original, then breaking it at repair, and one more for good measure. Still, that's just crazy butterfingers, but I digress.
Op, I seriously doubt "rugged" means unchipable, or even blemish proof. If phone meets concrete from even three feet and the right angle, you'll either chip, dent, or scratch. In thing to be happy about is the glass or screen shattering. I'll take dents and chips over exploding screens any day. Still, not having cases for it is highly questionable. You'd think even Sammy would release a case, just to collect more money.

I cannot believe how ****ty the active is, this phone slipped out of my pocket and fell from about 10 inches up the day I bought it. The screen cracked in two places. Upper right corner and right below the back button.
However, I called at&t and they sent me a regular s4 free of charge and let me keep the mildly broken active. Never charged me or anything. If only I could find a replacement screen.

At this point, Samsung may be able to replace it cheaper than buying parts. Of course it's on the assumption you want it fixed today.

I don't understand why people who purchase this phone seem to think it is shock proof, drop proof and crush proof. It's marketed as being waterproof and dustproof.

I wish it had drop protection. But a case should fix that. I'm just thrilled about it being waterproof.

One of the reasons I got rid of my old S4 was because people were having the screen crack while in their pocket with no trauma. I haven't heard any such reports on the Active just yet. Honestly, the one time I cracked a screen it was on my Note 1 and it was a drop of similar height and I had a Trident case on it. It sucks, but I can't see blaming an electronic device when I'm the one dropping it.
Purchased original in November. Charging port door split into pieces, just got my replacement in the mail last week. Then I had it in my pocket playing music last night and the rubber stopper came completely out. This is just ridiculous. I regret my purchase. Thought I'd share for anyone debating purchase.

Oddly enough I never had that issue, just crappy build quality issues.

Mine is the fre. I believe they both have the same rubber stoppers though. My husband's fre also had the charging port door split into pieces.

Not sure if this will help you but the rubber headset stopper can be reinserted with a needle if you tie thread around the plug and pull it through with the needle. That headset plug is definitely a problem if you intend to carry your phone in tight spaces where something is likely to pull on it; other than that it works fine and does provide the water protection.
Oh yeah we learned that last night. My hubby ripped the first one in half pulling it through but we scavenged the stopper out of the case with the split charger port. It's much more fragile now though, but at least the case is usable once again. I'll just need to make sure I bluetooth music, really limit my headphone usage.
I never was too fond of lifeproof, it just seems too gimmicky. Living on the beach in Miami, I never needed to being a phone in the water (not the typical facebook/Instagram addict or whatever they use nowadays). Not sure why I even need a phone when in the water? Maybe for underwater pictures? Lol
It's just a trend that I'm sure will die out soon. Best bet would be to go after the reputable brands like seido or Otterbox. Thanks for the headsup.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if your case breaks, even though it's related to build quality and not being manhandled.... Is that you must return the defective case back to Lifeproof *at your expense*. Perhaps I've just been spoiled by Amazon and otterbox but for the price of the case you'd think they could not nickel and dime the return process.

Your welcome keep in mind I had a positive experience with my iPhone 5 Lifeproof for a solid year. It was solid and even though I complained about losing that screw 8 million times it was vastly preferable to this new rubber system. I think they cheaped out with the galaxy cases but kept the prices the same.
Had some of the same issues. Deployed a handful of these cases to my group and they were pure trash. The sound quality was so bad one of our executives was on a call and had to jam a pen though the membrane in order to hear and be heard. It became the norm that before you made a call or answered a call you had to open the charging door to at least stand a slight chance of the person on the other end understanding you.
A couple connections from Lifeproof told me that the defect is known about. One has been holding out on upgrading to the S4 because their case is having so many issues. Their products have unfortunately degraded quite a bit over the last couple years.
I got the LifeProof Fre during the Thanksgiving holiday. I returned it about a week later. I don't think it is a very good quality case and the top layer is very flimsy and the plastic distorts the pixels. The rubber earplug is also not as durable as the iPhone version. I think the case was rushed out the door. Mine also started leaking water after about a week. Buyer beware.....

I haven't tried the Otterbox but I had a lot of problems with Seido and returned it.
My son loves his Lifeproof so I hope he doesn't have these issues down the road. I don't need the water resistant feature and am very pleased with my Body Glove case.
2/16 Update, my replacement case has fractured in the same area as the original case. Makes no sense whatsoever why this case can't handle daily use in this particular area. Again, my iPhone 5 Lifeproof case did fine for a whole year, but it was made of more flexible plastics, I'm thinking maybe whatever material they switched to do for the galaxy series is more brittle? Just sent another warranty case to Lifeproof, this is getting ridiculous.
not much around in the form of waterproof when it comes to the note 4, so i'm gonna order one of these ebay specials.

I would trust a zip lock bag over that cheap looking POS to keep my Note 4 dry. Just my crazy opinion. :silly:
I've got a Spigen Tough Armor for general everyday use, shame the mainstream case makers don't do anything IP Rated.

Ghostek Atomic Waterproof case for Note 4
I found this on Amazon, i can post links yet. But does anyone have experience with this brand on previous devices. Its on preorder for 14.95, regular 79.95. I thought i would give it a try since lifeproof has no plans for making a case for the note 4, according to there reply to user inquiry on facebook.
I asked that question too and got some not to good replies. On Ghostek. They seem to sell a lot of other companies cases just rebranded is what I took from it.

This case looks badass. But it really urges not to submerge which is probably the only reason I'd buy a water resistant case :/
I've had the case yesterday, left it submerged in water about 1 foot deep, all night! With some tissue paper inside and no water got in.
The case is cheaply built hence the price, and you can barely hear through the ear piece, but works OK on speaker phone. Only wanted it as an occasional case if I know I'm going to be in a wet environment. In the meantime I'll be waiting for UK supplier for SUPCASE waterproof.

Ordered same as op and tested it without the note 4 inside and it worked so I trusted it with the phone also and it's been holding up very well. It's call audio is shot though but I don't care as I'll only be using this for underwater photography

Did you ever get to use it underwater? Did you shoot any video? I would like to use this at a water park. I bought the ghostek for my note 4 & it appeared to be working fine. However, I recently caught it leaking water in a 4th test I conducted. When I submerged it, I immediately noticed tiny bubbles escaping from the flip cover at the bottom. My Spen was wet. Now, I am hesitant to use it as a cheap alternative to a GoPro. Also, the responsiveness of the screen underwater is very hit or miss. Very difficult to get the camera button to operate. Thanks in advance.
Yes I've used it underwater pleanty of tines. Never leaked. Only thing that annoys me is the ****ty sound that comes with all underwater cases
