How can I make my android show up as a landline??? - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone, I'm new at this so bare with me.. I'm trying to find an app or something that I can use to get another number that will register as a landline. My company says I have to have one. I have apps like pinger and Google voice. Is there an app like those that can give me a new number that will register as a landline when they call??

(Req) fake caller id (older version)

Seems no longer in the market, but this app lets you dial someones number and you input the display number as a exact number from their phone book. Also allows you to change your voice. So if the user dialed your number but inserted your mothers exact number as the "calling number", when their caller id displays their mother is calling.i know its out there, but IDK where. Any help be great, thanks

are you talking about youmail, or visual voicemail plus?
arent those kind of the same thing as google voice?
I like google voice, you can check you voicemail online, it transcribes(usually poorly, but but better than spring vvm, when i had my epic.)
Google Voice.

you make a lot of threads >_>
yep google voice. sux that any visual voice mail on att not on the iphone is considered a forwarded call and thus uses your minutes but atleast it's not a surcharge like on sprint to use call forward or use sprints transcription service. i used youmail a while back because for some reason on a stock captivate rom that phone wouldn't set call forwarding up to the google voice number for the life of me. if would just fail for no reason. yet it worked for the youmail number. on an i9000 rom my captivate set up google voice just fine. go figure. what i will say is that toe youmail transcription service works better but it is not free, they may still have a free trial for it though.

there is no other platform that has the 3rd party app support and dev comunity. the iphone ui sux. they are constantly doing hacks to get andriod features but they are never as good. meego looks good but few phones have compatable bootloaders.
I can't forward my voicemail at&t number to GV voicemail. On GV app setup when I click configure voicemail and choose GV, it just bring me back to configure voicemail,
I remember when I had my iPhone 4 and some called be on my att number and was sent to the voice mail, the voicemail was forward to GV voicemail.

I had trouble too. Just came from iphone also. You need to log in on your PC not the Google voice app and set it up there Google.com/voice . You should be able to find where it says activate voicemail. Click it and it will give you a long number to call mine started with a *. Enter that # as if you where making a call and press send it will activate your account. I tried and tried to get it working from my phone but ended up going it this way. Good luck

[Q] Any way to make/receive calls using data connection?

Is there an application (or other method) to rout all incoming/outgoing calls through the phone's data connection? With texting this is already possible with Google Voice, but GV uses normal phone connection for voice. I'm looking to get around that.
Specifically I'm looking for a way to use a tablet plan (just data) on my phone while still being able to make and receive calls. So far I've seen Fring and Skype Mobile, both of which cost money. Has anyone used these (or any other similar service) and if so, do they work? Do they drop calls and/or not complete calls? Do they use the data connection exclusively? Are there any similar things that are free to use?
Thank you in advance!
The best one i have used is toktumi.
It's has a monthly fee of 10bucks but gives you a new number and texting all on their app.
It's been around a long time on. Apple before they crossed to android. I used it personally and it wasn't to bad. It's only 60-80% reliable when i used it. Maybe now it's alot better.

There are plenty of ways to make outgoing calls with data, but having a number that it's possible to call from any phone to ring yours is a lot harder. And google voice DOES use minutes; here's proof: Link
Try the free trial app from toktumi and you will find out that it's the best SIP app you can get

Has worked well for me the few times I've used it!
I can vouch for Skype and how well it can integrate with Android, though you must be willing to pay for some services.
2.99 a month will get you unlimited calling to the US and Canada. You can get away with only using this IF you don't want your own mobile number and don't care to receive incoming calls or voicemail. Not to mention when you call someone it will say "Unknown" and I've seen people don't tend to like to answer calls from an unknowable number. Most people obviously don't fit into this category, not sure if you do.
19.99 a month for your own mobile number where you can receive incoming calls and voicemail.

[Q] Is there an app that would notify me on phone A about activity on phone B

Hi !
It's kinda difficult for me to explain but it's fairly simple:
I have 2 android phones:
1. Phone "A" with number I use all day and carry it with me.
2. Phone "B" with number I use rarely and usually it stands on the shelf all day long.
I receieve calls, SMS and other things on phone "B" occasionally. Sometimes entire day passes until I see that I have missed call, SMS or other notification.
Is there an app that would notify me on phone "A" that I have some activity on phone "B" ?
Thanks in advance ! :good:
Im looking for a same aplication too for android. Can anyone give us a clue??

Google voice with lycamobile?

Is it possible to get google voice working with any other services besides the ones they have listed? I want to set it up with my lycamobile number. So is there a way to do this or is it not allowed unless they officially support it? I Google searched and all I could find was how to transfer your Google voice number but nothing about getting it working with other companies. Thanks

When I tried setting up google voice and texting and calling on my computer it said choose your carrier from a drop down list. The list only had certain big ones. Lycamobile wasn't on there but it supposedly runs on tmobiles network so do I just choose tmobil?

I never had to select a carrier but I set mine up a few years ago. Maybe things have changed. If your provider runs on T-Mobile network I would choose it

OK I'll try again and see. Last time I tried was a about 2 weeks ago so I don't remember exactly what the process was.

It didn't work. It says mmi something then error or something like that when I put in the activation code. It says prepaid T-Mobile plans not supported and my plan is prepaid so that might be the issue.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand what activation you are having to do. When I set mine up, I simply put in the number I wanted to verify from, what number would be used to forward to and that was it

They must've changed it then. Or maybe it detected yours was already supported. I wanted to set up the voice mail feature but it said. Your carrier may not be supported. Set up from PC or something along those lines and have me a link.

Se situation
Abdel, I appear to be in the same situation as you. I am able to receive calls/texts using my Google Voice number, but I wasn't able to make calls using the number because Lycamobile isn't on the drop-down list on Google's "activate Google Voice on this phone" page. BUT then I just changed the setting in GV to "Making calls: Use Google Voice to make all calls" and it works perfectly, showing my GV number on phones I call and ringing my phone when people call my GV number. It even seems voicemails are handled by GV and not Lyca.

Awesome thanks. I'll try that. So after setting it to make all calls you don't need to do anything from the computer? And does it let you text people with it too?

Correct, nothing else onthe computer. I'm using the GV app for all my text messages, not the normal Android texting app (soon to become Hangouts, methinks).
If this is working for you, hit the thanks button. I don't know much compared to some people here, so I'll take any boost to my thanks meter I can get.

So I was able to get Google voice working by using groove IP lite. It uses my Google voice number. It doesn't even need the voice app installed. In just going to have that set as a sort of personal home phone. What sucks Is in may apparently Google won't allow those apps anymorw
