Camera stopped working on AOSP roms. Flashed a new version of PacMan which I've been running for weeks, and camera suddenly stops. Won't work on any AOSP rom. Flashed back to TW momentarily, and it works fine however.
I've tried:
Numerous clean installs
Fixing permissions
Clearing gallery data
Re-installed newest baseband
Half the time I get a "Cannot Connect to Camera" error, and half the time I can appear to take one picture and then the device goes black and/or freezes.
Any ideas for a fix???? I've got a 1 year old, so the camera is not really optional for me at this time. Never had so many problems on a phone that couldn't be resolved with a clean flash, making me miss my trusty Gnex and almost starting to regret this phone. Thanks in advance!
Fixed... Odin back to stock and re-rooted.

Hi,
Since last week my camera didn't work well anymore. I used to have no problems but since somewhere last week, my camera would crash my whole phone upon starting. This was with ARHD 6.6.4. Then I flashed 6.6.7, and the problem was still present. So I cleared cache and app data, and still, no working camera.
Yesterday I flashed OrDroid 9.0.0, hoping this would clear the problem, but it didn't. When I click the camera-app (camcorder as well) my phone hangs, and about a minute later reboots itself. When clicking main camera in Z-devicetest the same happens. Using the mirror-app, my phone keeps working and gives a clear image from the front camera.
Any advices?
Well, today my camera worked several times... But I cannot get it running again. I tried lots of different things, wifi on/off, airplane mode on/off, bt on/off, full battery, on wall charger...
I'm afraid it might be a hardware malfunction. Can anybody give some advice?
I used to have a camera problem it used to crash when I opened it. Someone told me to uncheck face detection on the camera settings and it worked. You can try that

I don't think it's a Rom issue, did you uncheck face detection ? If it's the Rom that should do the trick. I'm running ordroid 9.0.0 and I have no problems with the camera. Make sure you uncheck face detection, if it's still giving you trouble it could be a different issue. Check your settings. Could be a problem in settings. This is known to happen if face detection is on. So uncheck it and let us know if that did the trick. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Well, I thought I found it, but it wasn't the battery. When the batt is full, or nearly full, I haven't had any problems, but when ~<80% my phone just crashes and hangs or reboots...
I did uncheck face recognition and geotagging when it worked, but this hasn't fixed anything.
Are you on a custom kernel or not? I have experienced flashing different roms affects the camera as well.
Bump
Same issue on several different ROMS (Sense and Senseless). Camera will work for a while then freeze and crash to the home screen OR occasionally crash and reboot. This also happens with other camera apps, not just the stock app. If I don't find a solution soon I am going back to the stock ROM.

Just as sudden as the problems appeared, they disappeared... The camera functioned for about 2/3 weeks without any problems, but now last week, all of a sudden, it started crashing my phone again whenever I start the camera app...
I was having random restarts with my Collective 4.1 ROM, so I decided to install Avatar 2.8b 0426 release.
Now the restarts are fixed and I'm running 4.2, so I think I'll be keeping the ROM. However, the one problem I have found is that the camera doesn't work. I get a "Camera error" that says:Can't connect to the camera, at which point I press ok and the app crashes.
::EDIT::
After following the setup procedure a 3rd time, the camera is functioning again. After letting it settle over night and testing it this morning, so far the ROM feels very snappy and stable with all features working.
Hi everybody I am a Skyrocket user. Some days ago I flashed stock android 2.3.5 on my phone via Odin, just to check some performance and old apps. A day later I flashed back JellyBean 4.1.2 stock but I noticed this problem. When I flip my phone to landscape, it rotates quickly and smooth like it always did. But when I flip back to portrait, it stucks in landscape for some seconds before rotating. This is a problem it doesn't always do, sometimes it rotates immediately like it should. I turn auto rotation off as I don't always need it but some apps like camera and youtube still autorotate. I thought it might be a problem with calibration but it didn't help. I'm on stock JellyBean, no rooted.
(If it helps: I was rooted after flashing the firmware and removed some system apps but only AT&T apps like code scanner, mog music etc, and I later unrooted the phone. Tried factory reset also re-flashed the firmware again to see if it might help with the problem but it didn't.)

If you tried odin back to stock, and the problem is still there on complete stock then it's probably time for a new phone unfortunately.
a few tips:
1. make sure you check the MD5 to make sure those files downloaded ok and aren't corrupt.
2. make sure you cable is good & you're using a USB port on the back of your PC
3. Ebay phones. even sold as new might not be new even though they look new. Could be just brand new replacement parts and new packaging, etc.
4. Check Vincom's troubleshooting thread! read the stickies! if you haven't, maybe something you overlooked as well.
screen rotation problem solve easily this trick working on all phones.
Use Spirit level pro software to calibrate your phone. sceen rotation problem is horizontal calibration fault, you solve screen rotation problem eaisly to use this software. Download from play store and download from attachment. Try this..

Hi kristikoroveshi is your issue solved if not pm me i faced same issue
Hi All,
So I've been having issues with my rear camera on Nexus 5 (my front facing camera works fine). Currently the camera and the flash will not work and basically stopped working some time around the upgrade to lollipop. While on lollipop, I tried uninstalling the app updates, restarting, clearing the cache...all the usual suggestions I've found online for dealing with this issue, but none of them work. Now, I'm currently running 6.0 and still the camera/flash are not working. Tonight I tried wiping the phone and reverting all the way back to kitkat 4.4.4 to see if that would fix it. I tried this multiple times, wiping and reflashing to various versions ranging from 4.4.0 to 6.0 to see if any would somehow fix the camera issue, but none worked.
At this point, I'm back on 6.0 and its still not working. My phone doesn't even show the default camera app in the app drawer. I have to access it through the shortcut on the lock screen and when I do I get the "Can't connect to the camera" message. I'm assuming its a hardware issue at this point, but wanted to know if anyone has any insight on this. From what I can tell, the flash is not part of the camera module, so if the camera itself broke, it seems like the camera flash should still be recognized and functional (its not in my case, not even an option for the default flashlight on the taskbar pull-down screen). I am wondering if its worth buying an oem replacement camera module and installing it to see if this fixes the issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Still looking for an expert's take on this
I have the same problem

Okay so a couple of days ago I had an issue when my device bricked but I managed to bring it back to life (thread for reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help/bricked-z5-t3338860).
I'm now having a new problem. Since updating to MM my cameras don't work, front and back. The stock camera app just FC straight away, the Cyanogen camera app opens but it's just black with all the buttons on top, snapchat has a black screen too. I've tried 3 different stock MM FTFs, I've tried the slimstock rom, I've tried the RomAur MM rom. I've tried it rooted and completely stock. I've tried going back down to 5.1.1 with the .200 firmware. I've done fresh installs wiping everything. Nothing. Both of my cameras have just stopped working. If I open the AR Camera app I get a toast notification saying 'Camera not available'. In the service menu it says 'Camera not connected' and secondary camera says "Device does not support this function'.
Any suggestions?
