Screen rotation problems. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi everybody I am a Skyrocket user. Some days ago I flashed stock android 2.3.5 on my phone via Odin, just to check some performance and old apps. A day later I flashed back JellyBean 4.1.2 stock but I noticed this problem. When I flip my phone to landscape, it rotates quickly and smooth like it always did. But when I flip back to portrait, it stucks in landscape for some seconds before rotating. This is a problem it doesn't always do, sometimes it rotates immediately like it should. I turn auto rotation off as I don't always need it but some apps like camera and youtube still autorotate. I thought it might be a problem with calibration but it didn't help. I'm on stock JellyBean, no rooted.
(If it helps: I was rooted after flashing the firmware and removed some system apps but only AT&T apps like code scanner, mog music etc, and I later unrooted the phone. Tried factory reset also re-flashed the firmware again to see if it might help with the problem but it didn't.)

If you tried odin back to stock, and the problem is still there on complete stock then it's probably time for a new phone unfortunately.
a few tips:
1. make sure you check the MD5 to make sure those files downloaded ok and aren't corrupt.
2. make sure you cable is good & you're using a USB port on the back of your PC
3. Ebay phones. even sold as new might not be new even though they look new. Could be just brand new replacement parts and new packaging, etc.
4. Check Vincom's troubleshooting thread! read the stickies! if you haven't, maybe something you overlooked as well.

screen rotation problem solve easily this trick working on all phones.
Use Spirit level pro software to calibrate your phone. sceen rotation problem is horizontal calibration fault, you solve screen rotation problem eaisly to use this software. Download from play store and download from attachment. Try this..

Wow so even after flashing back to stock you're still getting black screen? I've seen the black screen a few times with miui but not everytime. I was hoping it would be fixed with the final v5.
thats weird. the first time a flashed Miui I had that same problem. I just reflashed the same rom and the problem went away. I have never carried the black screen through multiple roms.
Even I flash back to the stock rom by RSD the black screen can't fixed. I already replaced the camera module but not fixed.
Do you use autokiller memory optimizer? I got black screens when I set it above strict. If you do maybe youd want to lower those settings.
I didn't install the auto killer, But even i flash back to 2.1 stock rom without any tweak apps,it still can't fixed the black screen
Hmm, same issue in several ROMs, sounds like an hardware error.
I have found the following in Loyat Forum:
Help! My camera shutter suddenly closed up and can't open anymore. Is this normal or my phone is screwed?
This is a known issue for xt720. Not all of them though but quite a number have experienced it already where the shutter just completely shut. There's nothing much can be done other than sending it back for warranty... OR you can try this trick. Get a magnet and put its South field close to the shutter. Apparently it will open up. Not sure how true is this but yea.... better than dismantle the whole phone just to find out you really screw the phone up for good...
Maybe this could help...

Screen keeps changing from Landscape to portrait on 4.0 Sense ROMS

I don't know why but on all Sense 4.0 ROMs (like OrDroid 7.1.0 and Insert Coin Evolution 1.3) my screen goes landscape and stays like this. I checked and unchecked the landscape mode in tweaks, I checked and unchecked the screen rotation, and calibrated screen g-sensor, but nothing helped. I did perform full wipe before OrDroid and IC, but it didn't help. I don't have problems on ARHD 6.4.4, please help cause I have no idea what to do ;/ I'm gonna hit thanks button like maniac if someone helps.
HTC Sensation
FW 3.32
Kernel stock/faux/Sebastian/bricked
4EXT
Now I've noticed that the screen goes from Landscape to portrait like mad. It changes just like this. Even if I leave the phone on the table. For example it's portrait, I switch off the screen, then it comes in landscape. I unlock the phone, then it changes portrait to landscape and back like mad :/ what the hell?
The best part is, that when I revert to ARHD 6.4.4 it works flawlessly. I get landscape when I want it.

Does this still happen even after unchecking the Landscape option in tweaks?
And how exactly are you getting landscape mode with ARHD?
I meant that the screen rotates into landscape on ARHD, for example in gallery or internet browser. Yes as I wrote, it happens with landscape mode unchecked in tweaks either from shinz or baad (depends on ROM). It is really frustrating.

Your G Sensor is probably not working properly.
Where are the places you have noticed this?
ie Have you noticed this in a particular application or all apps?
Also, if this is happening with Google Chrome, I'd like to inform you that Chrome is currently not working properly in Ordroid 7.1.0
First after I've flashed OrDroid after Full Wipe there was everything ok. So I went to take a look at the Sense 4.0. I firstly checked the gallery, and when I wanted to edit photo, all the Sense went Landscape. I couldn't change the Landscape to portrait by any chance so I've rebooted the device. After that, the system loaded up, the sense. 4 seconds and bam again. So I thought the ROM is broken and checked InsertCoin after a Full Wipe again. And here were even more problems. I left the phone unattended and it was changing from landscape to portrait by itself. It changed on homescreen, lockscreen everywhere. I'm really pissed off, because it looks really nice. To bad it's unusable on my device. I made device g-sensor calibration, but even when I made it succesfull it went wrong again. Either with landscape mode checked or unchecked. Maybe there is some option I can disable in applications? The ICS brought the option to disable some stuff. I don't know why it happens with landscape mode unchecked in tweaks, and autorotate unchecked in screen options. I'll look for some g-sensor measuring apps in Google Play

SuperCID and try flashing a different firmware. That probably could be causing some problem.
Now that sounds reasonable. I've got stock firmware from stock 4.0.3. Then I've done htcdev unlock and jbear s-off. Now I've flashed OrDroid 7.1.1 (previously was 7.1.0), and I'm waiting for the results. Is there any other firmware than the stock 3.32? Can I flash it while I have OrDroid, or do I have to change firmware, make a Full Wipe and flash OD 7.1.1 again.

no flashing firmware wont touch RM...so after flashing the firmware you can boot to ordroid again and can use it normally
for 3.32 firmware get it from this thread
get the one w.r.t your CID..if you are superCID then get any 3.32

[Q] Camera crashing

Hi,
Since last week my camera didn't work well anymore. I used to have no problems but since somewhere last week, my camera would crash my whole phone upon starting. This was with ARHD 6.6.4. Then I flashed 6.6.7, and the problem was still present. So I cleared cache and app data, and still, no working camera.
Yesterday I flashed OrDroid 9.0.0, hoping this would clear the problem, but it didn't. When I click the camera-app (camcorder as well) my phone hangs, and about a minute later reboots itself. When clicking main camera in Z-devicetest the same happens. Using the mirror-app, my phone keeps working and gives a clear image from the front camera.
Any advices?
Well, today my camera worked several times... But I cannot get it running again. I tried lots of different things, wifi on/off, airplane mode on/off, bt on/off, full battery, on wall charger...
I'm afraid it might be a hardware malfunction. Can anybody give some advice?
I used to have a camera problem it used to crash when I opened it. Someone told me to uncheck face detection on the camera settings and it worked. You can try that
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
I don't think it's a Rom issue, did you uncheck face detection ? If it's the Rom that should do the trick. I'm running ordroid 9.0.0 and I have no problems with the camera. Make sure you uncheck face detection, if it's still giving you trouble it could be a different issue. Check your settings. Could be a problem in settings. This is known to happen if face detection is on. So uncheck it and let us know if that did the trick. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Well, I thought I found it, but it wasn't the battery. When the batt is full, or nearly full, I haven't had any problems, but when ~<80% my phone just crashes and hangs or reboots...
I did uncheck face recognition and geotagging when it worked, but this hasn't fixed anything.
Are you on a custom kernel or not? I have experienced flashing different roms affects the camera as well.
Bump
Same issue on several different ROMS (Sense and Senseless). Camera will work for a while then freeze and crash to the home screen OR occasionally crash and reboot. This also happens with other camera apps, not just the stock app. If I don't find a solution soon I am going back to the stock ROM.

Just as sudden as the problems appeared, they disappeared... The camera functioned for about 2/3 weeks without any problems, but now last week, all of a sudden, it started crashing my phone again whenever I start the camera app...

Issue with the display - post official ICS update

Hi,
I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy R today to the official ICS version. The phone was on the stock ROM (Gingerbread) earlier.
I did the update using KIES and the update went without any errors. Post upgrade, my Samsung Galaxy R's screen isn't working normally when viewing things involving pure black background. For example, when I open the "Settings" and try scrolling through the list that is shown in the black background, the text leaves streaking effect (leading to multi color dots in the black areas). As a result, the text in the black background becomes scrambled. This problem also happens when the phone is powered on and the start up splash screen (samsung logo in pure black background) appears. The weird fact is that the screen looks absolutely normal when there is no "pure black" element involved in the display and all other colors looks okay.
Just to confirm, I installed the Gingerbread version again (using custom ROM) and the screen works perfectly okay even when scrolling through the various settings with pure black background. Splash screen at the start up doesn't leave any streaks/dots either.
Finally, I tried to install ICS once again in OTA mode and the display issue started happening again. Please find attached the image that shows the problem.
Could you please let me know if I am missing something.
P.S: One more interesting point to note is that the problem happens only when the screen is kept in the portrait mode. The moment I turn the phone to the landscape mode, the screen becomes perfectly clean.
Thanks,
KB.
Hi,
I have attached a couple more screenshots that illustrates the problem.
The issue gets fixed once I put the phone in landscape mode and the issue doesn't happen when displaying colors other than black.
Thanks!

Hmmm..Its may be lag of ICS. can you give me details like, is it was happening to you in GB as well..??
Or have you flashed any other ROM for the fix..??

Hi Vikesh,
I am not facing any issues with GB. The display is absolutely perfect when I tried out GB. I tried the following sequence:
1. The phone was working perfectly in GB and I decided to upgrade to the official ICS
2. Upgraded my phone to ICS using Samsung Kies. Found the display issue the minute ICS started
3. Worried about the problem, I tried flashing the stock GB ROM. This fixed the display issue
4. Tried upgrading to ICS once again - without KIES this time (using Wifi - OTA). Upgrade went without any error, but the display problem started once again after the upgrade
Currently I am using the ICS and it works fine except for the aforementioned display problem. Even the display is pretty responsive and I don't feel any lag while using the phone. Display issue gets sorted the moment I turn the phone to the landscape mode and the problem happens only with black backgrounds in the display.
I am not sure what I am supposed to do and I am thinking of moving back to GB.
Please let me know if you need any other information.
Thanks,

buddy, This kinda problem I never faced. Might b few problem while updating your device, is occurring (which is not reporting as error). So, My suggestion is can you please use ODIN V3.07 & flash it using Offiline mode. i.e. Flashing ICS using ODIN.
Procedure is here -> Click here
First 3 question & answer will let you know everything.
If still problem persist, then do visit SSC or flash latest cm10.1 & based ROM over it.

Gravity sensor suddenly stopped working

Hi, it appears that recently the gravity sensor in my Nexus 5 stopped working.
At least it is what it seems by using sensor testing apps. And this makes it impossible for the phone to get its orientation (compass is not working).
Screen rotation is still working fine though.
Here is what happened exactly: not long ago I was using Google Maps, but the phone was a bit sluggish so I decided to reboot it.
After rebooting I opened Google Maps again and immediately noticed that the orientation indicator was missing (the blue "beam"), while it was present before the reboot. But I didn't care about it, and just thought that the compass needed re-calibration.
After a few days the orientation indicator was still missing, and the phone never asked me to re-calibrate, as it used to do before instead.
Then one day I launched Google Sky Map, and noticed that the view does not rotate automatically.
So I fired up a sensor test app I had installed (asd.vector.sensor), and no data is displayed for the Gravity sensor. Also orientation is not displayed and the info says that the gravity sensor is used to compute orientation, too.
Other sensors are ok, and as I already wrote screen rotation still works great.
Any clues about this issue? Did anyone ever experience this?
I'm afraid a system restore would not help...
I'm using Resurrection Remix ROM, Android 6.0.1.
Thanks.
If the problem exists on a stock ROM, it could be a hardware fault.

Ok yes, but I still do not know if it exists on a stock ROM.
Taking it the other way around... Do you think there is real possibility that it is a software fault?
I mean: did it ever occur to anyone? Is there really any hope that resetting my phone to stock will fix this?
I HATE having to reset my phone...
Thank you.
I stopped using custom roms a while ago because of minor problems that would suddenly appear.
I don't think there is a way to really tell if it is software or hardware unless you reset or use a stock ROM.

Well, that's a little hope at least.
I will need to find some time to re-stock my Nexus and try.
Thanks .
Ok, I restored the phone to stock and all sensors work again now!
Thanks audit13 for pushing me in that direction .
That's great that it was a software bug in the custom ROM.
Now you get to hunt for a custom ROM that works with a minimal or zero number of issues
