Just wanted to chime in with a couple things... I finally got around to trying out slimkat 4.4 beta 2.4 (latest) and ran into a couple issues.
I flashed the rom and latest beta 2.x gapps but upon first boot the phone was roaming and stuck at the activation screen. I got around that by wiping and flashing the rom again without gapps and manually changed the data mode from NV to RUIM/SIM. Can you make it default to this since it's what USCC uses? It would allow us to flash gapps at the same time as the rom.
Anyways, that's kind of moot because Now it seems to be stuck in a boot loop. It'll fully boot and about a minute later it will reboot itself. I suppose I'll try to flash the rom one more time, but looks like I'm headed back to 4.3.1.
---------- Post added at 03:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 PM ----------
Yep.... same result after a clean flash. After the first manual reboot it just bootloops about 15 seconds after the launcher shows up.

Roaming issue is fixed for next weekly. For reboot that's odd what recovery are you using. I've been running as well as others without issue. I also take it you did a clean install formatting system manually?

Using the latest CWM recovery (6.0.4.5)... and yeah, clean install, wiped data, cache, dalvik, formatted system.
Does TWRP play happy with kitkat yet? I switched a while back because I heard it had issues.
No errors on the flash though... and it restored my 4.3.1 backup correctly *shrug*

Yeah your on the right recovery. Did you restore apps and data? If so how? Also did you enable root access in developer settings?

Pretty sure the only thing I did was unlock dev settings...and maybe turn on root. Can't remember. I did a manual reboot just for the heck of it and that's when the reboots started. The initial bootup after flash seemed fine until I did the manual reboot. Maybe I could try flashing a custom kernel?

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with... Looking to take the jump to 4.4.2 but Carbon and LiquidSmooth (my daily drivers in 4.3.x) are kinda dragging their feet vs Slim

Can i dirty flash 4.1 from 4.0? thanks..

What is the difference between this and the other slimkat you have posted?

I just updated the latest build 4.1 and noticed the new recent app animation where it shows all your recent apps on the right hand of the screen instead of taking up the whole screen like it does in stock Android. My question is how can I revert back to stock recent app animation?
Thanks guys

root issue

I just lost root, as well. I've never lost root before. I've been running my own self-compiled version of this for months, and I just flashed the stable release from work to check it out, and bam.... root = gone. I'm about to try and fix it now.

4.3 mini-FAQ
Q) I'm stuck at the boot logo and/or a boot loop!
A) Make sure you use TWRP 2.5.0.2. TWRP 2.6 and other recoveries can cause boot loops & hangups
Q) Root doesn't work!
A) From a clean build you need to enable root access for Superuser itself. This is different from 4.2.2 in which Superuser by default had root access on a new install. To do this, go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access. If an app attempts to request root access before Superuser itself has access, it may cause problems with that app in the future where root requests are silently denied.
Q) Titanium Backup isn't restoring apps!
A) Change the backups folder to storage/emulated/legacy.
If you use Philz recovery 5.10.0 you must upgrade to 5.11.0 or you will lose radio!
Since the SGS4 is so new, development is happening very rapidly. This should be taken into consideration when flashing any 4.3 AOSP-based builds on the device. Known issues will be listed here.
Well I downloaded the Verizon version yesterday and was just getting ready to install on my ATT device. Good thing I logged in before wiping. Downloading now.

This is not actually up-to-date any longer. Check the features section on the website.
I was really hesitant to upgrade to 4.3 because I am tired of buggy ROMs. (Nothing wrong with buggy ROMs as I am not forced to run them). But I was having major issues with the no volume on calls bug on slim version 8 and older. Once 4.3 was released it was clear that development would stop on the other ROMs so I figured that I had better join the 4.3 party. I am very impressed. Beta 2 has been flawless for me so far. Only issue I had was with superuser and even after going into SU and setting to "apps and adb" I still was having issues with titanium backup not restoring. Switched to SuperSU and have zero issues. I did notice that torch took a really long time to light up the first time but seems to be good now. Great job on the ROM.

Depends on what do you use your phone for? If it's just for talking, texting, internet, and taking random pictures then it's enough for you. If not you have to wait since many apps still don't support 4.3 yet.

Thanks. I installed the ROM without looking in md5 now my rooted device is saying it is not rooted. Does that have anything to do with the md5? How do I resolve this?
UPDATE:
I downloaded SuperSU-0.93-Busyboxxxx.zip and flashed it but when I tried to use applications requiring roots it takes forever. When I tried to use SuperSU it says

Do you have a custom recovery installed? And are you using the latest TWRP to install? You need to have either the latest TWRP or the CWM recovery that is listed in the 1Stop by vincom. The Rom is prerooted so you shouldn't have to install any root fixes. The MD5 file is for use by TWRP or CWM recovery to check the file before it's installed. It ensures the Rom is exactly the correct size it needs to be.
How often does the source get synced with CM? And is it just the kernel or more than that?

This is built from Slim Source, which is based off of CM source. (Correct me if I'm wrong on that.) This is just kind of a preview for now .. They're making changes to the source almost daily. The kernel source comes only from CM and I always sync before i build. Made it most of the way thru last night and had an error. The guys who took over the project for Mike Ramsay, are working hard at getting it right. So you can expect a few builds before it gets anywhere close to final.

Thanks very much.
1. Yes, I do have custom recovery installed. The one I am currently using is TWRP V2.6.1.0 which I used to flashed CM 10.2.
2. Regarding the md5 file, what do I do with it? Do I need to flash it or just put it on the phone? I had it placed in the same folder as the rom itself.
Thanks.

That's all you have to do. Unless you've changed the options it should look for the MD5 file automatically. There is a new TWRP 2.6.3.0 out on Goo now. It has some of the bugs out of it. They have a thread and the title has been updated to reflect this. No problem.

BOOM! I was hoping for a pure AOSP and/or Gummy.
I've heard some good things about Gummy. Can't wait to try it out. But before I go through the trouble of flashing and such, is there circle battery w/ percentage on this? That's ultimately the deal breaker for me so far on KitKat

Yes, circle battery w/ percentage is included. Using it myself right now.

Everybody make sure you are using the latest recovery . twrp 2.6.3.1 works for kit Kat previous versions do not.

Have you tested any of the custom kernels? I assume BMS and KT work, as they work with all the CM11 builds out there, but I thought I'd ask.
My deal breaker would be with Tap-to-Pay. Will this work with Google Wallet's TTP?
Downloading now. Really hoping this one doesn't have the FC and random reboot issues like some of the others.

No Verizon phone will, due to the ongoing disagreement VZ has with the Google payment method. Don't expect ANY rom to come out with functioning tap-to-pay until Verizon works out their beef with Google. You can try some of the hacks people have posted for 4.3 roms, but I haven't seen anyone report that it worked on a 4.4 rom; make sure you use one of the older Wallet versions, because all newer versions for VZ devices have that functionality broken.

Other roms have got TTP to work.
Also, does FB sync with the contacts?

Yes, other 4.3 roms got it to work, through using the hack and an older version of Wallet.... which I already said was the case. No one has successfully had T2P work with Wallet on a 4.4 rom on a VZ Samsung device yet... at least not that's being reported on xda. You will not find T2P working on a flashable rom until Verizon and Google settle their dispute; devs are not going to incorporate the hack because it works for some and not for others.
If you need T2P, try the 4.3 hack and report back to us if it worked... otherwise, stick with a hacked 4.3 rom if you need the functionality.

FYI... just flashed and didn't get a data connection. Tried the usual techniques to get it to work, but no dice. :/
On it an loving it. Great work. Only other thing I need on this ROM is RAM Usage Bar on Recents and a notification status bar toggles.

Data has been working well for me. Sometime it takes a few minutes to hook up but has always come on eventually. Check under status your IMEI and see if you didn't lose it.

Ahh good call. I believe my IMEI was there (I glanced really fast), but it might not have been. Does a firmware flash remedy that? I've never had that issue before.
No a firmware flash won't do it. Best to flash to a backup where it was there. Then make backup of the IMEI. There is a script I think on xda that will do it. I keep a copy of the back on my PC too just in case.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM dev that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't (or don't want), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Octo-Kat

A Note about the Team OctOs GApps
We in Team OctOs believe in choices. We believe in leaving the fundamental decisions about your phone to you.
In that spirit, Team OctOs gives you options for your GApps experiences. While any ODEX'ed GApps package should work, we offer you the choice of using some of the same GApps packages that we use ourselves, and leave the choice up to you.
You can find our Team OctOs GApps packages here, and break down into the following types:
GPe - Google Experience
Regular GPe GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced GPe GApps
AOSP
AOSP GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced AOSP GApps
The Dalvik-Enhanced packages are NOT ART compatible. If you plan to run ART, don't use those.
We will only update the thread with Stable Releases, whenever possible. This means that the thread may be behind non-milestone releases. If you have an issue with compulsive flashing, or feel the need to live 'life on the edge of brick', we invite you to follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter. Any dailies that can be released, we will release there. Please note, we pull these releases after a day or two, so if the latest link posted there is empty, simply wait until the next one.

Translators Needed!
We are currently looking for translators to help localize OctOs into other languages.
Many of the main ROM components are already translated (built-in), but anything that we've changed or added won't be. Currently, we are "English predominate" speakering team, but many of the users may not be!
If you would like to help bring OctOs to your language, check out: https://crowdin.net/project/team-octos-octo-kat-android-ro
You can sign up as a Translator and then start translating the OctOs project. This makes it easy to identify and translate the individual strings.

In case anyone is having issues installing using TWRP 2.6.3.1 you need to wipe everything and then reboot recovery and then install. You shouldn't have any issues after that.

The last time we thought of rushing a release and by-passing the testers,it didn't turn out very well. Luckily I was the first to run it because I soft-bricked my S4 ;c) We will typically run the releases on our personal devices (where applicable) before even our Testers get it. If something bad is going to happen (and it easily can), we'd rather take the bullet than someone else.
That being said, Richard and Scott are working hard to get an update out. The fact they are the only S3 device owners (and even then, they don't use them as a primary) means its slow going. The testers are great, but when it comes down to methodically changing piece by piece to fix an error, there is only so much we can ask of them.

Rom Information:
The Paranoid Android team tries very hard to create new and exciting features, while remaining faithful the the AOSP design philosophy and aesthetic. Notable Features:
Pie Controls
Halo (Discontinued - Replaced by Hover)
Hybrid Properties (Per-App DPI settings) - Not yet implemented in current PA builds. It is planned for the future.
Current Major Features:
Quick Settings
Immersive Mode
Pie Controls
Peek

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I "dirty flash" updates to Paranoid Android?
A: Usually, yes! I will try to make a special note next to the download section when clean flashes are recommended, however I am not perfect and may forget. Please always read the information in the latest Changelog to avoid any hassle.
Q: The Paranoid OTA app says my gapps need updated. Is this really necessary?
A: Nope! Google Apps are automatically updated via the Play Store, and therefore do not need to be updated manually. Additionally, if "dirty flashing" a new version, Paranoid Android automatically backs up Google Apps and restores them, so they are not necessary. However, when clean flashing (if you manually wiped the system partition), it is recommended that you use the latest gapps from the Paranoid OTA app.

Stay Paranoid!
I love how stable AOSPA has been for me in the past. I've had the least amount of issues running it. Only thing I would love to see is quiet hours built in like CM11 and notifications on the lock screen like Carbon. Other than that, I can't wait for 4.4.3 to come out.
One thing I want to point out before it does come out is CM11 is having an issue with aftermarket kernels when it comes to changing the LED; it causes Settings to FC. Now on Ayysir's builds this never worked but if someone else were to attempt this, maybe they can look into that before syncing with CM11 and releasing the next version?
I'm having no trouble with lean kernel 9.7
I haven't really used PA a lot, but I've always liked it. (My devices were always crappy, unsupported devices) Does PA usually support lockscreen notifications, like PAC-man does?

Not officially, but there are apps on the app store that do this.
Here is a popular one (free version, paid offers more features): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.knock.knock.demo
I dirty flashed from the previous build and had no issues. However, my friend clean flashed and did not have a keyboard. We had to flash the previous build and then dirty flash the new one. The MD5 sums of the ROM and GApps were both correct.
Where do to go to change your answers to those, "ask me again later", questions?

Yes you can certainly try dirty flashing if you want. I'm just passing on what the PA team recommended in the Changelog.
Sometimes flashes just Bork and you have to try again. Also using custom kernels can introduce more bugs sometimes.
Glad you both got it working!

Yes that's the latest right now. With that package you should at least have the stock AOSP keyboard. Not sure why it's not working. If you really want a clean flash, you could try using the stock gapps package, or add in the Google Keyboard with the full modular package to see if that helps.
Three devices (d2vzw ML1) all loaded PA 4.4 Beta1 (with PA kernel).
Got through initial setup, then loaded KT 06-03 AOSP kernel; no problem.
One (mine - work phone) will not boot with KT kernel.. again, same install procedure..
> adb shell
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
All devices were previously running TW (old&slow 4.3) - with KT.
Suggestions?
(boots with lk for KK - fwiw..)
---------- Post added at 11:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 AM ----------
4.4 Beta 1 - TIBU complains about su binary being out of date..
Suggests SuperSU..
It will boot and run w/ lk; but that stutters when I'm typing; running with the default PA kernel till I can work out a resolution.
I've always used LK with no problems. I suggest trying the newest lk 9.7
Unfortunately I have no experience with KT, so I can't speak to it directly
I was a little confused in the OP, does this have hover, but not theme manager?
