[Q] Has anyone been able to root the Verizon 4.1.2 OTA? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think the title says it all; I have posted in the development forums but it seems the Xoom forums are slow these days...
I have the 4.1.2 stock OTA and I prefer it to any of the ROMs. I have installed recovery and the bootloader is unlocked. When I attempt to root with the universal root tool it states it is successful; but upon reboot; rootchecker says no.
Any help is appreciated.

Success!!!
Downloaded the su package from post 2 in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1825753
Flashed and it worked fine.
Likely an incompatibility with the SU package for ICS and the modded one someone made for JB.

Bad link
Looks like a bad link. I get a 404 error when I try to follow it. I can't seem to get my Xoom to root on 4.1.2 either.

Use ViperMod (Option 1) to root. After which use RecoveryInstaller to flash CWM recovery

You can use Nachoroot to root then OTA rootkeeper to keep root. The use settings/ update/ check for update.
While waiting for replies I found transformer root toolkit v1.7 which worked great. updated recovery asper post i followed then installed ICS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514658

So while waiting for replies you were able to find your own answer? Usually searching precedes posting new threads- hopefully you will heed this protocol in the future, as the fellows who commented to help you basically just wasted their time didn't they?

[UPDATE] Rooted US Transformers 9.2.1.11(US) to 9.2.1.17(US)

Typical stuff, I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your device. That being said much love to Roach2010 and KTWombley for their work which led to my insignificant contribution.
Long story short this update is for the US version of Asus Transformer TF101. This upgrade applies to those who are running stock firmware that is rooted.
If you removed any stock applications or did anything to your stock installation this will fail.
I tested this update on my own tablet and my daughters who happens to have the keyboard dock and all was good. US only but if anyone wants to forward me other packages I would be happy to add them.
Try at your own risk.

I guess i need CWM to flash this?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Can someone please post a step by step for running this update? been a while since I rooted and want ICS
thanks in advance... I rooted but left things unmodified
do I just flash the update like any other rom?
Yeah you can flash over.
I installed OTA Rootkeeper and made a backup of my root, then I flashed the zip like anything else. After I the update was finished, I went back into OTA Rootkeeper and noticed that I no longer had root so I used the app to restore my root and voila, all updated and rooted.
I flashed this via CWM and it all went well.
How do I remove the message in my notifications? Also, OTA (even with root keeper) doesn't seem to work with CWM installed.
Is there a ww version of this update?
Hi,
kookooktchoo, thanks for the info about OTA root-keeper!!! Unfortunately I didn't read the rest of your post, I too flashed this update and lost root. lucky I had installed and backed up my root using it.
thanks a lot !!!

Go into your apps in settings, find DMClient, then clear the data and cache, then you will get no more notifications about updates.

I think it will appear later this week.
You can still use ViperMod primetime option 1 to root after the flashing the update. Just did it myself .

Sent from eee pad Transformer running ICS
Works perfect.. I did not lose root either..
Anyone know a way to get this to not check a current app? I only changed the SystemUI and cant find my backup of the original. It hangs on that. I tried the rooted+stock full version of the first ICS release but it apparently didnt blow away my ASOP SystemUI because its still failing.
No reboots or hangs so far. Good stuff.
Update the new firmware using the normal route. Still rooted after the update. No problem at all.
Worked great for me. Thanks!
The OTA kept failing on me so I tried this and it worked great.
For an 8MB update it took a little longer than I expected to flash (+5 mins).
Apparently this doesn't fix USB mounting of internal and removable storage on PC though. I was hoping it would. Guess I'll search out the separate fix. I know I saw it around here some where.
Update failed
Doesn't work for me, update says:
assert failed: apply_patch check("system/framework/framework.jar", "019f4fa7de941375127daceb8342fca208512e9f", ....etc

[Q] Rooted and can't update anymore

So I've rooted (the day it came out, so before the first update) and can't update anymore. It'll fail when attempting and reboot me. It wouldn't be an issue but I don't like getting popup reminders about the update. I've searched around but haven't found this issue and am hoping I don't have to reflash the stock rom to update again, I'd also like to keep all my stuff you know. Hopefully someone knows a solution. Sorry if this is dumb

Unroot, install update, reroot.
How to Unroot:
Thanks shabbypenguin for posting this.
You can manually unroot your Droid by using a root file manager program (such as root explorer) and mountsystem as R/W. Then delete the following:
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/bin/su
and if it has it
/system/xbin/su

Thanks! Unfortunately, it still fails about 10% of the way through the update. Since JB just came out I'll have to just flash to stock completely and try updating legitimately, then rooting it again, I guess.

You may have solved this problem already but did you try using voodoo root keeper? It's a pretty straight forward way of backing up the root, unrooting to install the update, then rerooting when the update is installed.

I'm running into the same problem. Did the flash back to stock and subsequent update to JB work for you? If so, were can I download the stock OS?

Hey there, I had the same problem. Rooted, unrooted, frozen, deleted, restored, couldn't get anything to get JB to work. Eventually just gave up and flashed to stock. Used the amazing Utility presented here
just make sure to gain root access before going to the JB update. there is no present method for getting root on fresh phone with JB update.

Root not working

I've just tried to root the device using the debugfsroot.bat method and it is not working.
I have followed the instructions, reread them to make sure I've done it correctly but no joy.
Anyone else had this problem?
That doesn't work anymore on JB.
If you want to keep your locked bootloader, then downgrade to ICS again and root it. Then use OTA rootkeeper to keep root after upgrading to JB.
Search the forum how to downgrade.

the RootDebugfs.bat file has a number of error condition handlers, what error are you getting when attempting to root?

It is not apparent that there are any error messages. I've attached two screenshots, including the final one which claims I have root.

After you finished, you have to launch (open up) the superuser app, then download "root checker" from the market and use it to verify that you have root.
Well it seems as I've managed to solve the problem. I went into Superuser after doing the root, then under info, checked and updated and now root checker says I have root!
Just upgraded to Jellybean following instructions in one of the threads and have root as well. Now to install CleanROM!

ATT Tab 3 7.0 4GLTE version now has KitKat

seems like a nice update so far.
just need to get root back...
mine keeps hanging up at 25 to 27% its only rooted ive tried to remove root and re update still same thing did you have to do anything to get the update?
i have the same tablet, but i do not see the update. Do i need to unroot the tablet to get the update?
I was rooted and had quite a few /system mods such as the LG G3 keyboard and at one point Wanam Xposed. Once I un rooted the update installed 100% but gave me an error on boot.
I downloaded the stock 4.2.2 tar file and flashed via Odin. This did not wipe /data and left me with a stock 4.2.2 un rooted device.
At this point the update installed perfectly.
Is the update speedier than the 422 stock?

Where did you get the 4.2.2 TAR file? All I can seem to find is every tab 3 7.0 EXCEPT the AT&T version.

Seems they may have removed it then. Is there anything besides "T217A" that it might be listed as? A compatible model or something?
I'm 99% certain it was sammobile. You'll want to search by device type or something, not just T217A.
