Just happened today, Im still on a fresh flash of Nexus JB, Im wondering if I should reflash to a different more stable ROM? Heard this one was the best though.
Anyways, Ive tried everything, from APN settings, reboots, airplane mode, nothing works. I only have texting and calling. Is this a hardware issue? The phone is getting old.

A logcat would surely help..
I managed fixing it, but for future reference what and how do I get a logcat?
Lots of guides all over xda, here is one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42049881
Think of logcats as a way to find errors, there are apps to log but adb is the preferred way as there are much more options and you can see the output immediately

I've been using my Rogers HOX ever since it came out but always had random data drops. Tried all kinds of radios (with or without RIL) and all kinds of roms and the issue is still there. Losing data is not the biggest issue but it also drops the battery real quick because it keeps trying to connect.
Anybody ever find a solution to this?
I'm using the HOX on Straight Talk and lately I have noticed that when I have WiFi on for a while, assuming it stays connected, I lose mobile data. The only thing that bring it back is toggling airplane mode or rebooting the phone.
I am on Jellybean, and I am not sure if the issue was present in the stock ROM's.
Yep still having the same problem on AT&T with every combination of Kernel/ROM/Radio you can think of. I can also say that it isn't a "rooted only" problem because a coworker is having the same issues on 100% stock software. There's always that ONE THING that keeps my phone experiences from being perfect. Grrrrrrrr........

Stock 2.20 on Straight Talk. Have to toggle Airplane occasionally. Especially in North Little Rock. ::shrugs::
OP, have you restored your stock setup to see if the issue persists? Basic question, but for the sake of a starting point.
After so long, finaly found the problem. I don't know if it'll be the same for everyone but the problem was Swiftkey keyboard. The moment I uninstalled it, the problem did not reoccur.
I have the same problem and I can assure you its not the phone, I have used many android phones, iPhones, and regular phones on rogers 3G network and they all have the data drops in general like dropping to 1 bar and no service once and while.
You might want to switch your network to wcdma/gsm instead of wcdma/gsm/LTE. If you dont have the correct APN for the rogers lte network it will keep searching for the lte nrtwork causing the data drop. As soon as I turned my lte toggle off the network stopped dropping randomly though I still get those random data drops caused by the network

We had this issue with the rezound, it actually occurred because you flashed different radios.
You had to flash a ruu or a modified one without the system image. See my SIG
So try flashing a ruu, this doesn't explain someone with a stock phone having issues but I bet that's just tower issues
I don't have any of these issues

Tried all of the listed solutions and nothing worked. I know it's not the network because I don't have the problem with my Note II. Swiftkey was the issue for me, once removed, the issue never reoccurred.

Wow, you might be onto something here. I just installed SwiftKey last night and immediately started having issues. Data has been off-and-on with different versions of different ROMs, and never suspected that my issues may lie within an app that I was using. I was mucking about with radio ROMs and a million other settings, never realizing that SwiftKey was installed right around the time I started having issues on each ROM.
I'm going to jump back to CM10 this evening and see if this was my issue.
THANK YOU in advance! (Thanks button has been hit!) Nice work!
You gotta be sh***ing me! After all this time scouring xda and numerous other sites.starting my own tread it was SwiftKey all along? Wtf? I did a thousand different things. Nothing worked, took off Swiftkey, bam, flawless. I've got a T-mobile GS3 incase anyway was wondering, no, apparently it's not just with htc or AT&T/Rodgers. Weird though cuz my wife has a AT&T GS3 with Swiftkey and has no issues whatsoever... Did you dl your version from the playstore or from a 3rd party? Thanks a million for posting your solution. This was absolutely killing me. God do I hate this stock keyboard though...
So recently in our area cellular services are blocked from time to time due to security measures. Now the really annoying thing is that my phone does not automatically catch signals when the service is back and when I reboot they are back. I have tried switching back and forth from airplane mode but to no avail it just needs a reboot. Infact yesterday when the services were back my data connection started working but there were no signals in the status bar and I couldnt make a call.
What could be the problem? I am running rooted stock rom 4.1.2 with matrix kernel. Or is this possibly a problem with the cellular company?
What version nexus s do you have? What radio is running?

Its the i9023. Radio I dont know but I have never fiddled with this stuff so I suppose its stock radio. Only think I have done is root and custom kernel.
I used to have this problem, wanna know what happenned? My NS died (hard brick).
Most likely won't happen to yours.
The solution might be to flash a new radio that is compatible with the i9023. Radio's can alter your network performance and signal quality. If you're interested, here is a thread with different radio's:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884. Remember to always backup before flashing, and you can revert to your old radio by flashing it. To check your current radio, go to setting-->about phone, and look for baseband version.
An alternative is to try to flash a new rom, if you dont want to flash a radio.
Another alternative is a factory reset.
BUT, there is a possibility that our phones are designed like that, and none of these solutions will work.
Good luck! keep me updated
I have the KI1 radio. Well I asked a friend with an Iphone 4 and he says it "sometimes" happens with his phone as well so I suppose it's not something completely abnormal.
I don't actually have any signal problem apart from this issue. I never have to restart phone to get signals unless this specific timed ban on cellular services happen, I don't lose signals with some regular very short problem with network. I suppose it's just better to live with it than flashing new radios?
I might flash a custom rom soon so the factory reset solution will be tested then.
Did your Nexus S just randomly died? How do you suppose it had something to do with this problem?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I don't think it has to do with the problem, but i never found a solution because it died. Let me know how the new rom goes!

Btw there was also another problem that I didnt mention. Sometimes my phone refuses to turn on data connection and it only comes back with a reboot. This ONLY happens very rarely when I switch from wifi to data and never happens after data connection has started.
Did you have this problem? I just switched to CM10 yesterday and it has once happened so far but its not related to the ROM since it very rarely happened before as well.
I actually did have this problem! With my old ns. How long have you had this phone?

Its about 6 months old. I am experiencing this problem more whenever wifi is on for an extended period, so far I have had it 3 times with CM10.
I went back and forth to airplane mode and it started working so atleast didnt need to reboot.
I think this could be a 4.1.2 problem for me as I dont remember this happening previously.
Maybe try an ICS ROM?

Alright, I'd like to start off by saying I am very familiar with everything as far as root/rom, etc. I am not a noob, please don't talk down to me like I am an idiot with no clue what he's doing. Thanks.
So here's the problem,
I was getting bored with my Illusion ROM, and wanted to try something new. I flashed a MIUI rom, and everything was great until I realized I had no service. I did the whole 4636 thing and selected the LTE/CDMA/GSM/AUTO (PRL), still nothing. rebooted phone, still nothing.
Flashed to a CyanogenMOD 10.1, was able to get mms and internet working, but no calls.
Restored a backup of my stock ROM, was able to get mms and internet working, but no calls.
So now I am stuck with a phone that I can't use as a phone...
Any ideas?? Did the MIUI screw up the radio somehow? Am I missing something??
Alright I fixed the problem, Finally...

I'm having the same problem. I flashed carbon and I got stuck in a bootloop so I went back to bones and now whenever I'm in a low signal area it just goes away completely. Even in a strong 4g area I still lose connection. My calls won't even go through. Anyone know how to fix?

I have installed ViperOne and Clean Rom and I have the same problem with both. After a while of inactivity my data will just quit working. The icon will still be there but the phone won't connect at all. I have to place it into airplane mode to fix this. And just fyi sleep mode is off and power saver is off. It's just like my phone forgets how to connect after a little while. I had ZERO problems when I was stock. And now this.....please help me!

Oh and I have also done factory resets between each Rom install so everything was clean when it was flashed.

Read santod's post here

then respond in this thread. scrosler doesn't want us to discuss this issue in his rom thread. This is the perfect place to continue.
I can't wait to try it because I have the same issue on my travels but will have to wait until I get home and to my PC. Would love to read more success stories...
In essence santod says: flash the stock recovery, do a factory reset from hboot to restore the VZW radios, then restore your setup. Should work with most sense roms, but so far the people solving this issue all flashed a RUU.
Anybody have a link handy for the stock recovery?
i've ruu'd back to "stock" and am trying this now.

Stock Recovery: Link :good:
You can find that and my firmware links in this thread.
Did the stock recovery so far so good but I won't know for sure until I get out and about today. It seems I didn't have the issue until it dropped from 4g to 3g back to 4g and have a decent 4g signal at home.
For now it seems as though that did the trick. I didn't loose data all day, we will see though.
Well it didn't work, I had to toggle airplane mode several times today to get data to work again.

Are you going to RUU?
That's what I plan to do tomorrow. It's getting to be extremely annoying. Not even toggling airplane mode or mobile data on/off does anything. I have to reboot every time.

RUU'd, stock recovery, flashed radios, and new SIM. I've tried everything. It seems as though if I'm in a low signal area where I go from 4g to 3g to Wi-Fi it happens. It's like there's a handoff problem between all the radios. Will show 4 bars of 4g but under mobile data in settings says disconnected.
Mine just started doing this. I'll RUU when I get back home to Texas.

I can confirm that it did fixed the issue, I didn't loose data all day no matter if wifi, 4g,3g, or 1x,
Same here. In the last 5 days I travelled in 3 states, large cities and very rural areas where it dropped to 3G or 1x - it never had problems to return to 4G (or getting a data connection at all).
This fix proves what's so great about these forums! I probably would have ditched a phone I totally love in all other aspects due to a problem that OEM customer service would not even acknowledge existed!
I have a VZW M8 and it seems that after I leave Wi-Fi coverage, my mobile data will stall. I believe it is Wi-Fi disconnect causing the issue because if I leave Wi-Fi off, I haven't noticed the stall.
The only way to regain mobile data is to either restart which works every time, or if I go to mobile data settings and change from LTE to GSM, which works most of the time. Toggling data does not work.
I apologize if this has been discussed before, I searched and found nothing. I am s-off, rooted and running nV Rom. I asked in that forum but got no response. I also ran the GPE rom and had the same issue.
I don't remember this issue when I was stock, but that was such a short time, so I can't be sure.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they were able to remedy it somehow.
I've had this issue on previous devices and it was usually caused by a specific rom, but many times it had to do with the baseband or even kernel. I know that the GPE roms for the VZW M8 were ports from the unlocked variants so that may have modified something like the baseband. If it's a consistent thing throughout several roms, I would literally go back and flash stock firmware and then reroot to see if that fixed it. That used to do the trick for me.
Worth trying, I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks
Well, I restored my stock nandroid, but I'm still having the issue. Maybe I will RUU to stock and see what that does for me.
On a side note, could it be one access point causing the issue? I don't remember it happening off of my router at home, but 75% of the time it happens all the time at work.

Actually, try forgetting the access point and then re-add.
I ended up not using Wi-Fi at work for a short time, and then re tried and it worked. Nothing changed, other than I forgot and re-added the network. Worth a try.
