Installing Clockworkmod/Rooting from external MicroSD - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I was wondering how I could root/rom my friend's Galaxy Tab 2 without plugging it up to the computer. His cable will only charge/work from the wall outlet and I don't have time to order a new one. Can I do this through SD (IE making a bootable sd with clockworkmod or w/e)?
Thanks!

USB charging and USB Host/micro SD with one cable

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a galaxy tab 8.9 for my car but I'm still skeptic.
The plan is to have one cable from the tab to the "car" which is charging the tab when the motor is started. This can be done with 5V DC/DC converter and a USB cable I'd say...
But now I noticed that this tab has no micro sd slot so I want to have a possibility to extend memory with usb or micro sd. I know that there are some adapters for usb host or micro sd but all off them I found are using the the standard samsung connector which is already used for charging in my case.
I found the pinout and it seems that this connector has everything on it which anybody needs. But I need charging and usb host at the same time!
Is there a cable which has multiple ends for USB host and client and micro sd (and maybe also hdmi, analog audio/video, ...) ? Just, one cable that can do everything which is on the samsung connector. That would be cool...
Anybody knows of something like this?
I'd be happy just finding an adapter that is just microsd... everything I've seen is full-size sd or 15 different bulky slots. You might check dealextreme. they just added galaxy tab accessories. they dont have what youre looking for, but maybe they'll have some combination that works just as well. they have some stuff i've not seen elsewhere.
I would say one of these kits from Samsung with the SD card and get a microSD with SD adapter and you should be good to go I would think.
Galaxy Tab USB and SD Connection Kit:

If you go to "features" it says:
SD or micro SD Compatibility The USB & SD Connection Kit comes with a SAMSUNG micro SD Adapter, allowing you to convert a micro SD card to work in a larger physical slot. Just insert your micro SD card into the SAMSUNG micro SD Adapter and you have a standard-size SD card compatible with the SD Adapter.
As for other adapter ends you might want to check out Belkin or Re-trak and see what they offer. I know that I got a Re-trak multi-adapter kit with HDMI cable a few weeks ago. It does not have a 30pin adapter unfortunately though my phone actually has a better camera in it so I really wouldn't be needing to play video from the tab.

thx to all...
problem solved.
Now can build my own cable.

[Q] OTG USB SD Card Reader

Does anyone have any ideas of a Card Reader that you can plug in your Android phone and Computer later?
I found the Patriot Cosmos but i want one that protects the SD card a little bit more and is smaller. Thank you
I have the Patriot Cosmos. To be honest, it's tough to get much smaller than that unless you want to get rid of the full-size SD card and only want MicroSD.
You can just get a USB OTG adapter cable that goes MicroUSB male to USB A Female (standard USB port) and that should allow you to use most USB card readers that don't require special drivers.

I see in the product write-ups that it reads SDcards and MicroSDcards but have not seen a picture showing a SDcard plugged in Is it possible to post a pic of the cosmos with an SDcard plugged into it?
Thanks

Since you asked nicely.
The three readers I have on hand: (with USB plug upright, ie not seam-up, pins on bottom)
Patriot Cosmos USB 2.0 reader - SD goes in side face down, MicroSD goes in same side face up above the SD
IOgear GFR304SD USB 3.0 reader - SD goes in side face up, MicroSD goes in end face down
Generic USB 2.0 reader - SD goes in side face up
Of course only the Cosmos has the OTG microUSB plug.
The SD card sticks out the same amount on all of them.
Perfect! Thanks. I was looking for a way to transfer my photos from my camera to my phone.

Another plus for the Cosmos - you can plug both MicroUSB and standard USB simultaneously - though I do not believe you can use the card reader in this configuration. I don't recommend it for day to day use, but if you're in a pinch and have no other means to charge your phone, etc...

OMG OTG is slow

My Canadian S6 is currently making a Nandroid using TWRP and an OTG cable with my microSD plugged in. It's been taking forever to back up the last 10%. I suddenly really miss having a microSD slot. Any thoughts or tips?

Don't root and backup and restore with a nandroid. Use normal everyday backup procedures for photo's etc and let google restore all your apps and settings for you. Much quicker than messing around with old school and old hat methods
I was actually surprised when I connected my 2.5inch external hard drive case with a 256GB SSD inside to the S6 using an OTG cable. It not only powered it, but also mounted it. The file manager transfer was showing speeds at over 40MB/S. I haven't done any actual speed test, but it transferred over 1Gig of files from the S6 to it in just about 20 seconds. I'd now have a solution for baking up pictures off the S6 when I'm on vacation.
You are probably using a cheap cable. Not all cables are created equally.

Good USB OTG for the S6?

Would love to keep all mods/flashables on my 64GB micro SD Card. Any good USB OTGs where I can put in my own SD Card that I already own? Preferably one that plugs into your phone directly, with no wire. Thanks!!

Have you tried the sandisk Bluetooth one? I have it and it works great no need to even plug it in to your phone

SD card reader

I bought an insignia micro USB adapter card reader and I put a USB type C adapter on that and plugged into my Notes but I can't for the life of me get it to read. I've installed several OTG apps but nothing works. Is it the fact I have that micro to C adapter? Or does the SD card not formatted correctly? I'm trying to use this as a way to view my trail camera pictures in the field instead of taking card back to my computer. Thanks for any help
