I am running a CWM recovery now and want to install TWRP recovery. What is the best and easiest way to do this??? Noob Question, however I had a app when I got the phone and I put CWM on it. I keep seeing everyone favors TWRP and want to give it a go... Thanks and sorry if its out there already.
Edit - For all of those not familiar with fastboot and flashing recoveries, there is an app in playstore called flashify that will flash a recovery or boot images. You just need to d/l the file that you want like TWRP 2.5 or CWM and save the file on your sd card. Select it in Flashify and bam..
That's cool. I wasn't aware you could flash CWM or twrp without a computer using fastboot. Nice.

It's like ROM Manager, the first one I ever used to flash CMW. But never heard of Flashify, nice one there. Just do a zip install of a TWRP from CMW, I don't think you need an external soft to do this D: . They recommend to use GooManager but I don't think there's a difference at all.

I used the one click root method and installed rom manager. from rom manager, I flash clockworkmod recovery, but when I tried to backup current rom. I got an error. Now I'm a bit worried to try installing any roms if I cant backup properly. Whats going on?
pretty sure the ROM manager flash recovery only puts the update.zip on your sd care. you can search dev forum (this should be in general btw) and do one click clockwork so you can boot to it from rom manager. otherwise you can boot to stock recovery and flash the update.zip on your sd to boot clockwork, then you can backup and stuff. but you will need the one click to boot to CWM from rom manager.

Ok, so i installed rom manager to install CWM, then i used odin to flash CWM touch, and it passed, rebooted phone fine, but when i enter recovery its the stock recovery, not CWM, any idea?
I cannot provide insight on why Odin did not successfully flash the CWM recovery as I have not flashed anything but official software with Odin but I highly reccommend using the app in the playstore called GS3 E Z Recovery to flash a custom recovery (after you have unlocked of course).
This is the cleanest way to do it IMHO.

Because there are two scripts that need to be renamed. They replace the custom recovery with the stock recovery on every reboot. They are
System/recovery-from-boot.p
System/etc/install-recovery.sh
These need to be renamed with
.bak added to the end of them. Then u can flash CWM with odin and it will stick once u boot up.
You can also flash CWM and not let the phone boot up and then mount /system and use adb to rename the files. Whatever works best for you.

Why did you use Odin if you already used Rom Manager? Rom manager will completely take care of recovery for you. Like others, I've only used Odin to go completely back to stock.
Open Rom Manager, and click the top "flash cwm recovery" for the regular version, or even better click the flash cwm touch version (donate like 1.99 I think). Done
And FYI, there are lots of problems with ez-recovery versions....I'd stay away from it for now.....

There's no issues with EZ Recovery that I've run into. Its the EZ-Unlock that the newest versions don't work right, you have to use 1.2.

I agree with brian, use ez recovery to flash recovery of choice. Stay away from rom manager or any of those apps until you have a better idea of what your doing.
I have cwm currently but I see threads saying to flash things such as radios and kernels through twrp. And I saw someone say that not to flash the new eu ota radio update through cwm. So I'm just wondering which recovery is better to use and why you wouldn't be able to flash a zip through cwm vs twrp. And is it easy to go back and forth between recoveries. Thanks.

TWRP is for those who can't or do not want to use fastboot to flash the boot.img as it does it automatically, but only on hboot 1.09 and below I believe. TWRP has a feature called HTC dumlock which flashes the boot on higher hboots. It also has a GUI as opposed to just text and takes advantage of the touchscreen. I personally like CWM better (the lack of a GUI makes it feel more "hacker-like ) but until we get S-OFF, TWRP will be what I use because of the ability to flash ROMs without fastboot.

Most people say that the twrp recovery is better in some ways than in cwm, well that I know of in twrp when flashing a Rom if your hboot is below 1.14 then you don't need to flash the boot.img via fastboot, although I'm pretty sure it doesn't work all the time but it has for me so far. As of now, cwm can flash roms/ certain zips, it just won't flash the boot.img for you like twrp does and it isn't hard to go back and forth between recoveries isn't that complicated, just download an app called goomanager for the twrp recovery and I think its called Rom manager for cwm and just ho to install recovery in romanager and install openrecovery script on goomanager and it does the rest for you, but you can't have both recoveries on one phone, they will over write each other if you do tend to switch back and forth, well hopefully I helped you clear up some confusion and if I did just hit the thanks button, and if you wanna know more just ask

ok this explains alot, thanks. im on hboot 1.09, and i just flashed viper rom yesterday using cwm. i did it as they said...flashed the rom then the boot image using the pc. so if i was on twrp then i wouldnt have had to flash the boot image after (so i could cut out the use of a pc?)? i could just flash the rom and boot it up and it works?
Im just trying to get used to this phone, cuz i came form the nexus s and for that all you do is flash the rom with cwm and it all worked, but this phone is way better, much faster and stable

On most ROMs, you are correct. On Viper, this didn't work for me and I still had to fastboot.

Save yourself some future headaches and switch to TWRP. The One S isn't really supported by clockwork, there was one build for it when the phone was first released and that's it. TWRP has active development and can do things that CWM can't.
It's easy to try another recovery or move between them, it's almost the very same as flashing a boot.img with fastboot. If you want to try a recovery without installing it do this and it will boot right into it:
fastboot boot recovery.img
One important thing to consider when changing recovery is that your backups made in one recovery won't work in the other, eg CWM nandroids won't work in TWRP and vv. So make a new backup first thing

Well, no... but it does have a touch interface which is a bit easier to use for those who prefer CWM.
All right, my issue is I have no clue in following directionshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777970 that are listed here, I understand how to get to command line, but I am unsure from there, I would love a good detailed instructions or something to help me out. its simple man if you have a custom recovery already all you need to do is flash the zip file like any other file you would in CWM.
if you dont have a custom recovery already use odin check out vincoms stickie in the developement page and flash the recovery thru odin and that it . pretty simple

the issue lies in that the only way to install the custom rom is to upgrade my custom recovery to the latest one, and thanks for your response!
EDIT: I researched online and found a method with fastboot and the recovery image, I will try this, is this a wrong method or is it possible?
You don't need fastboot at all if you already have a custom recovery installed. Just download the cwm flashable zip and flash it just like you would a rom (install zip from sd card > choose zip from internal/external > choose the cwm zip and choose install, then choose the recovery option to reboot recovery to boot into the new recovery.

You're all jacked up, dude. Just grab the zip file, place it on your sd card, and flash it in recovery.

I installed a custom recovery through the WUG method before someone directed me to the GooManager method which seems a lot easier. They both install the same custom recovery (TWRP). In the app it asks if i want to install a custom recovery so does that mean if i install the TWRP again I'll be able to use GooManager for finding roms and nothing will break, can i download the roms from GooManager and just flash it from there using my already installed recovery (without installing the same recovery from GooManager), or should i just go the long way and install through the quickboot method?
It doesn't matter. Once you have recovery, you have recovery. It's a partition on your device that doesn't care where it comes from.

Like pirateghost said it doesn't matter. But I wouldn't use goomanager to flash roms. Download then from xda and flash them in twrp. Goo manager can be a brick waiting to happen if you're not careful.
Use xda not goo. This is personal opinion I am leery of it and do not trust it entirely to modify my phone.

1) Ditch the toolkit, save a kitten. Use fastboot to install a custom recovery.
2) Ditch GooManager, it's too unreliable to use to mod your OS. Download custom ROMs and kernels from XDA.
After viewing threads of what the ROM manager app had done to some people's phone I would follow Birch's advice.
