[Q] Just Root - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to just get root access (similar to the auto root with the S4)? All the current methods that I have found seem to combine flashing CWM with root.

In this post there is a root method, for just root. Scroll down a bit and you'll see it.

Nexus root on mac/ one click root...

First question if I do a one click root is there anything else I have to do to get clockwork running?
Are there any very detailed instructions or videos on how to root the nexus s? (i want to root an get clockwork running)
After one click root, Download ROM manager from the market, install recovery using ROM manager, then install ROM.
There are detailed instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865
Thanks alot bro,
Are their any disadvantages to one click root compared to the regular root method?

[Q] s-off no root

Ok I used bubby's simple one click root I got s-off but my phone didn't take the root any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
check in your app folder if you have super user you are in fact rooted....if for some reason it was not installed go into a terminal emulator and type in "su" and you should get a superuser request and that would confirm you are rooted if it works...
Do you have clockwork recovery?

If you have s-Off then you can try re-flashing the rooted stock PD98IMG.zip from bubby's package. It's extracted into a temp dir on your computer when you run bubbys tool.
I'd guess it gets deleted once you close bubbys tool, as its only extracted temporarily for use by the tool, so you may have to start up the tool to get it to extract it, then find it before closing the tool again.
Once you find that PD98IMG.zip, put it on your SD card and reflash it that way.
Yeah I have superuser but it fc's on me and I have clockwork it's got me stumped maybe I'll try and reroot it again

If you're S-OFF and you've got clockwork, then you're pretty much as rooted as you need to be. Just install a custom ROM of your choice through clockwork. Any of the popular ones from the DEV thread should be properly configured for su, etc.

This problem has been encountered before, I believe. I forget the specifics of the fix, I think it's in bubbys thread somewhere, but it has to do with clearing data/cache for the superuser app and/or redownloading superuser from the market.
Check the thread for the exact details. May even be in the FAQ for bubbys tool (linked in post #1 of that thread).

[Q] root after unlock

Can you get root by just installing SuperSU from the play store or do you have to flash something with CWM?
Search for something like 'one click root' in the Development forum. Or go to the top of the dev forum, click on the sticky named '… Compilation' and find the link to the One Click Root thread. Download the One Click Root tool and run it, following the directions, on a Windows computer with the HTC drivers installed. Super simple if you do it right.
You can't run it on 1.85 tho I thought. I was just wondering if after you unlock on 1.85 if you can just download SuperSU to root.
no u need more then that the SU app only controls the SU access , it doesn't make it root
read this tread for one click root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167
orU can install clockworkmod recovery after u unlocked your bootloader , then u can install cleanrom or nocturnal rom and those are already rooted if u want to go that way

Recovery installed, no root...

So I used the Casual one-click tool to root my Verizon S3. TWRP installed correctly but I have no SuperSU. I tried installing it from the app store but it crashes whenever I try to get root access. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Odin back to stock and try the casual tool again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825 but don't do the 1 click option. Root your phone, reboot and see if the installed superuser app is working (you'll be able to install the binaries if you're rooted). And then unlock your bootloader and flash recovery. The first post has the correct instructions.

Thanks a lot. Ended up doing this before seeing this post and now everything is running smoothly. Just figured I'd check back to mark this thread as solved.

Toolkits won't root L at this time. You'll need to flash a permissive kernel too.
