Couldn't find this posted anywhere so here it is for anyone that needs it.
SamsungApps won't correctly download this package on gingerbread roms so I had to downgrade to 2.2 to fetch it for everyone.
Installing this apk then running it will update your built in camera(s) firmware to version OZ. Install directly from sd card, no need to push into /system (discouraged actually, as this app will ask you to uninstall it after it runs)
I'm not entirely too sure what has changed, but why not keep it updated if the update is offered.
This is the same update offered through SamsungApps. Nothing new, just an installable apk people can use to update their firmwares if they are outdated.
Enjoy.

It doesn't change the camera itself just the firmware. The OS version won't matter. I guess I had already upgraded mine at some point because it said mine was up to date.

Can't tell a difference either. Bit its done now. Don't remember panorama being an option but I musta overlooked it.
All I noticed was slightly better handling the camera. Pictures seemed to be a little easier to blow up and edit. Not a critcal update if you ask me, but haven't delved any further into it.

Did anyone else have this upgrade their Facebook and Miui Music with blue themed ones? I want to thank my camera for it since I have no idea how it did that.
After installing this I was screwing around with my camera settings and ran the update firmware. It said I wasn't running the most current version so it updated something with my camera firmware then installed Samsung apps in my programs.
Not a bad thing I guess, its kind of like a mini market with 20-30 programs.
Light sensor is more accurate and adjust faster in this version.
Yay, this update brought back the ability to disable GeoTagging pictures that was lost in the firmware update that was released around the official Froyo update time.

Is it somewhere else besides the settings when I start the camera app?
Nice, thanks!
I just installed CM 7.1.0 from MikG and the camera leaves much to be desired. There are few features/options, the UI feels like my original Droid and there are no special effects or ability to mute sounds like shutter and what not. Quite frustrating this past weekend when I was at a wedding and wanted to take lots of pictures but it was quite other than them reading their vows and what not and after taking only one picture I put my phone away because it was so loud. I miss the camera from MikG and wish I had the special effects like some of the newer camera versions. Can anyone help me out here? Prefer a Camera app that also has the video in it if possible. Maybe just a newer version of the stock Camera or ??
Thanks!

Alright, installed it and LOVE it compared to the stock one included w/CM7. My only problem is that the effects list is missing the only one I would ever use and that's an HDR setting. Other than that I just need to figure out what all these settings mean. Burst? Shutter? Anti-Shake? Where's the user manual?

Thanks for the information. I think I'm going to use the MIUI camera for the time being so no need to modify any files for the time being.
Well this is what I use on CM7 and this is the "FREE" version but they also have a paid version its better than the others i think. It starts with a grid but you can take it off in settings.
Same issue here as the newer's have the pano effect, etc. and are sweet.
As an alt to the miui one, you should checkout camera 360 also. Used to be a paid app, now free and has a lot of nice features ....

It's free now?!? I used that when it first came out years ago and loved it but the devs did some crazy crap (GREATLY reduced resolution of your photos and a few other things that I personally think is wrong) to the free version to get people to pay for it and so I abandoned it because I don't like those tactics. If it's completely free now then I'm all over that!

Bah! I hadn't yet noticed that. That was a great feature with the stock camera app and I hadn't yet tried the volume rockers. My single biggest gripe with this phone is a lack of physical camera button. PITA when you're trying to take a picture and you can't quite see the screen because of the angle.

Yeah, I was REALLY looking forward to this app being released for Android, but it looks like lots of users are reporting issues with it.
It's not just ICS, it's a Skyrocket issue - there's another thread started earlier here on this in the Apps forum.

it doesn't just FC it completely just deems my phone useless and i have to pull the battery
pain in the ass to take that extra step...

Weird, have a buddy with a stock unrooted 2.3.5 here on a Rogers I727R and he gets a lot of FC's and crashes as well.
I also experience this on my phone, Xperia Neo V, Instagram on Gingerbread works like a charm but always FC on Sony ICS 4.0.3, when applying filters.
Yep, same situation for me. Everything in Instagram works fine until you get into editing after taking a pic. The filters don't load and the phone is stuck in a frozen state. Usually I won't need to restart as phone will FC it after a while, or it will automatically restart my phone. There was only one time after the second update was pushed out for it that my phone could successfully apply filters. However during save it froze then crashed. All the photos still appear in gallery fine.

x2. When I had Instagram on my fully stock Skyrocket, it worked fine. Now I'm rooted and have the leaked ICS ROM and now it freezes and locks up my phone. Bummer! It is a great app!
Maybe its a ics thing. I'm sure the coding has alot to do with it but seems like it's not working on all ics but working on most gingerbread.

If you have patience you can upload pictures now, but it shows up as a black picture in the finished product. They made progress but are not quite there. I tried both quick pick and standard gallery, getting the same result.

I was going to post this in the Droid Kang ROM thread, but I don't have enough posts to post in the developers forum.
I finally jumped ship from stock and ended up on the Droid Kang ROM. I'm liking it quite a lot, but two issues with the camera that I didn't have before:
- Is there any way to make the volume keys take a picture?
- Face detection isn't enabled anymore (which links to focus and exposure)
Is there an option somewhere that I'm missing? Or a camera apk update that I could do?
Thanks in advance!
bump...any thoughts?

On the stock Motorola camera app, we have the option to take HDR pics. However, when I installed the newer google camera app the HDR option is gone. Anyone know why? Is it possible to get it back?

It never was available in the Google camera that I know of for this phone. That's one of the reasons I never made it my daily camera and continued to use the stock camera.

You can't right now AFAIK. It requires too many non-AOSP components (in other words, Motorola components like gallery and others). I supposed you could copy the stock APKs out of a stock image flashed on your phone for both the camera and gallery APKs and then in CM, copy these to the /system/app directory, reboot and see what happens. Worse that will happen is they won't work. But, I'm pretty sure they are compiled against other "libraries" that are not in the AOSP image which is what CM11 is compiled off of.

Now you have me confused - didn't you say you utilize stock motorola as your daily camera? How do you do that when running CM11 then?

Sorry about that. That was when I wasn't on CM11 but on stock. Now that I'm on CM11, I've been searching around for HD cameras from the Play store. One that I'm currently looking at is called "A Better Camera" which has HD mode built in. It's free and if you want other add ons, you can purchase them piece by piece (more controls for HDR colors, high resolution panorama - you already get panaroma mode but not in HDR, group shots, moving objects, etc). For $6.99, you can unlock all those premium features forever or purchase the ones you want for $2.99 a piece if you only a want one or two of them.
So far, seems to be a pretty good camera and just out of the box for free, it offers a whole lot of options that most other cameras would require you to purchase.
Once really nice feature I like about this camera is it does allow you to specify to save your photos to your external SD card and it works under CM11.
Speaking of cameras, I've noticed that the quality of the images I take using cm11 are very noticeably inferior to the stock kit kat images. Is that an OS issue, or the camera app that's installed? I'm using the stock Google camera.

I have no proof for it and my stock days are already a year back, but I swear that any custom rom introduces a "purple haze" to the center of my lense and I also subjectively consider the stock camera quality better.. now for a snap here and there it is ok and never bothered me enough to go back to stock, but I think it is noticeable. I think one chap also posted factual comparison between stock and AOSP.
Probably Motorola knows better how to tweak their camera or whatever.. I don't know.
