I was wondering, can flashing a custom rom/kernel change the MSL code?
I was just wondering /c I got a htc evo 3d recently, unrooted it, flash viperROM IC3D Beta 3 rom + AnthraX-htcleak-stockfirmwaretest.zip
then sent the phone to get flashed over to metro, but the guy told me they had trouble getting to the MSL code cause of my rom?
Anybody have thought on this?
does it say virgin mobile all over your phone? namely on the lockscreen banner? there have been LOTS of problems with ppl flashing the firmware leak from virgin mobile on their sprint devices.
if you have access to internet you should try dowloading msl reader from the play store and find out your msl code urself.
I don't think the rom i flashed is the virgin mobile firmware leak, although it is based off of that. and no, it doesn't say virgin mobile all over it.

i dont know too much about that anthranx kernel you flashed but that could be the culprit. go to settings> about phone> software info>more and tell me your pri, prl, and baseband version. also see if you can find ur msl code with msl reader.
dont tell me ur msl code just tell me if there are numbers or just zeroes.
I don't have the phone with me cause I sent it to the guy to get flashed, but he wants to charge me an extra $40 to get the MSL code. So i was just wondering if there was any truth to that.
lol ok as long as he can boot up the phone and go to the play store he should be able to download a free app thats called msl reader. or you can call up sprint and throw a hissy fit until they give you your msl code...i wouldnt pay $40 for that...sounds like B.S. but if you have no choice i guess you gotta. hope this helps
the phone was bootable and playstore worked when i sent it in.
thanks, we worked it out. I'm not gonna have to pay. But I really wanted to know if that was BS or not?
Just got android fever, get ready for noobs questions evryone, I'm new to the forum!
ok, you know what I need to revive this post because I'm upset right now and I need help from the experienced people on this forum.
I sent in my phone to be flashed to Metro and paid $120. it's been 4 days and I've still not gotten my phone back, every time I talk to them they tell me:
"there's a problem with the rom you flashed"
"we need more time to figure out the MSL code cause of the rom you flashed"
"there's problems with your phone cause of the rom you flashed"
"we can figure it out if you pay $40 extra"...
here's the deal. I bought the phone off ebay in "new" condition. it was stock, I unlocked the phone, flashed it with a synergy rom, then got curiousm did a full wipe and flashed viperROM IC3D Beta 3 rom + AnthraX-htcleak-stockfirmwaretest.zip.
Because I'm on hboot 1.5 i flashed chad's kernal to resolve the bootloop problem. It worked and the rom worked. Only drawback was the 3d camera doesn't work and usb doesn't work which was stated on chad's thread.
I brought the phone to an authorized metro dealer and told him I wanted to flash it to metro. He said for $120 he'll bring to his "guys" and they will do the flashing service. I put in a $100 deposit and let things take it's course. now, I've already had 2 htc evo 3d phones flashed successfully through this dealer before (both phones had synergy rom flashed on them before i sent it in) so I didn't expect any problems to come up.
I told them a couple days ago, if it's the viperrom that's the problem then just flash the syngery rom or revert back to stock. 2 days later, they're still having problems and giving me excuse, we're busy, your phone has problems.
I've been able to flash between roms on that phone successfully and ViperRom is a good rom, I really doubt there are problems with the rom like they say, and if they are competent enough to charge $120 to flash a phone, then they should be competent enough to work out this "kink" they're running into.
I've flashed this viperrom and chad's kernel on my sister's phone and flashed back to synergy rom with no problems and she is on metro.
I sent in a perfectly good phone. I'm extremely frustrated with the situation. <end rant>
Can anyone please shed light on this situation and help me figure out what's going on? Is it really because of the roms or are they just incompetent?
For Those of You Who Have an LG Optimus Slider
NOTE: YOU WANT TO FLASH AREAROMQ, THEN FLASH GINGERKERNEL ON YOUR SLIDER. IT WILL WORK.
Special thanks to emkeene for doing hard work.
How to retrieve the MSL (aka SPC) for the LG Optimus Q (Model LGL55C)
Disclaimer: I am formally not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone while you are performing this procedure. With that in mind performing this is totally at your discretion. This method has been extensively tested by myself only, on a rooted LG Optimus Q (LGL55C) running Area Rom v1.3.
This method requires aLogCat (free download from the market).
Download aLogCat here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsIm9yZy5qdGIuYWxvZ2NhdCJd
Instructions:
1) Open the aLogCat app.
2) Press Menu and choose "Filter." Type in "D/SpecialCharSequenceMgr" without the quotation marks. Then press Okay to confirm.
3) Press Home. Go to your dialer and enter ##3282#.
4) You'll be prompted for your Service Code (MSL). Enter 000000. Your phone should tell you "Wrong Service Code". This is normal.
5) Now press Home again and go back to aLogcat. Look towards the bottom of the screen. In the line "D/SpecialCharSequenceMgr( 850): MSL = 123456" the six digit number showing after the = is your MSL, where 123456 is in this example.
*The 850 may be 3 other digits on your phone. This line still contains your correct MSL.
There you have it! I searched the internet for hours this evening to find this information.
This method is not my work. It has been adapted to work on the Optimus Q from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421638 by sarcasmsiempre and marley183rd. Big thanks to these people for posting this helpful information, originally for the Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider.
So my friend (lives in Canada) has an Optimus One one a plan with Koodo. I walked her through installing CyanogenMod 7.1 or whatever the latest was. You know, unlock bootloader, root phone, and get Clockwork Mod to do all the hard work. I... may have skipped over the backing up part. See, I thought you know, her phone got wiped on bootloader anyway, so why backup? Yeah, idiot
So now she can't make calls, send text messages or anything. So I can only assume it's a baseband issue. But, that's where I'm stuck. After reading, some people suggest mik's mod, or something, others give a download to a backup for an Indian ROM. One flow chart suggested installing the baseband from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530 which looks useful. Except... which one do I use? And will it work on Canadian company Koodo? Will the Indian ROM work with Canadian Basebands?
Please, help would be so greatly appreciated

Hey man, so basically you were right, it's a baseband issue.
Flash version 20g/i/h whatever, I don't remember what letter but it doesn't matter.
Just follow the guide to the letter and it will work fine
Cheers mate!

You're on the right track, use the file attached to that post titled "P500-v20G-baseband.7z" (use 7-Zip/WinRAR/etc to extract).
Make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY. Do NOT unplug your phone until it tells you it's completely done, and don't delete the backup it makes! I got lucky the first time I flashed, I thought it had lost communication and had unplugged my phone, but luckily it hadn't started the wipe yet and I was able to recover it.
Don't worry, you're doing the right thing. Remember to follow every single step (double check twice), and DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB, until it tells you to, as they have said above. Also to add, I have a Canadian Koodo O1, and I'm 200% that you won't have any problems whatsoever installing anything on this forum, whether it's an Indian based ROM, Chinese based, etc. Have fun modding!
so I have a SR I just put a new (used, off ebay but new to me) motherboard in, and it works fine except for no imei/baseband, so obviously no data/voice/etc.
the efs folder seems to be fine...imei folder is in there, keystr file is there...I don't understand what the problem is.
the worst part is, only certain roms will flash...I cannot flash to stock, I've tried with odin and from recovery, a couple different stock versions of GB, ICS, and still no luck. It actually flashes, then does the "android is upgrading" screen, but then bootloops on the optimizing apps part. I've tried to flash to stock probably 20 times now, wiped everything, fixed permissions, etc...without fail it bootloops every time.
the only roms Ive gotten to flash are slim and jedi...no stock rom will flash, nor avatar and a couple others I've tried. but slim and jedi flash and boot right up...just have blank imei/baseband.
I've scoured threads for days trying to figure out what to do here...nobody seems to have my exact problem, and everything I've found about restoring efs/imei/baseband has involved flashing to stock...which I can't do.
anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried flashing different radios (baseband)?

Take a look at this thread, it may help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25172599#post25172599
thanks for the replies...
I've flashed UCM1 and UCLL3 radios, they flash fine but no change...still can't flash to stock and no imei/baseband/service.
That fix thread was one of the first I found, but as I still have my keystr file in the efs folder, I didn't think it would apply to me...I suppose I could make an external backup of my efs, delete it and try one of those methods from scratch.
read through the restore to stock sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398 and go through the trouble shooting sections, if that doesn't help u could have bad hw

Hey, Im facing the exact same problem! just that my imei turned to 0 and basband to unknown after i upgraded to cynogenmod 10.1-rc.2.
It was working fine till suddenly one day i lost network. I tried everything like you did. So far ive had no luck fixing my efs!
What you can do is download QTPS and in it there is a RF NV Item manager to rewrite your efs. For that you need to put you phone into DIAG mode unfortuantely i cant get to that on 10.1nightly cynogenmod that im using.
I m stuck. I know for sure flashing roms or radios wont help at all. the same boot loop problem happens when I flash using odin, it use to work perfectly fine earlier.
Some how the nv_data.bin and such files are missing from my efs>imei folder that contain the imei data.
If you find something please lemme know too [email protected]

will do.
also, you may know this already, but just in case, be aware the skyrocket doesn't use nv_data.bin...I thought it did too when I first started searching around about this, and when i couldnt find it I was pretty freaked out...but then i found out the skyrocket actually uses 3 encrypted partitions rather than a nv_data file. so if you have at least some files in your efs/imei folder you may be in a better spot than it seems. of course if its totally empty, you'll likely have a lot more work to do.
I'll update if I have any luck.

I tired changing them from root explorer! pasted someones else's efs folder! but still I cant fix my imei is stays 0.
i donno how to get to diag mode with this rom, otherwise i could have tried my luck with QPTS.
Incase you have broken your imei without backing it up, there is another way. And yes it is legal.
Here's the tutorial http://goo.gl/wtW29 and here's the needed tools (software & hardware) http://goo.gl/54mtk.

I actually have octopus box as well as the z3x samsung tool installed, however, they're both server activation based...the software is useless without an $89 (octopus) to $120( (z3x) activation.
I'd rather not spend that kind of money for something I'll likely only need once, so I'm gonna do as much as I can in the way of free solutions, and if I have no luck there I'll probably just send it to mobiletechvideos for their $40 efs/imei repair. I'm guessing they use one or more of these repair box programs themselves anyway, and will do the same job for only $40.
thanks for the suggestion anyway though..

There's this polish guy who probably also has all the same boxes and he takes €10 for imei repair by remote desktop.

And finally you could try helping the op of this thread to add compatibility for skyrocket, this would be free.

Isn't there any way to fix my imei on my own ?
Mt efs folder also looks good now with all the files it should have but still the imei remains unaffected.
Also i'd like to know that the qualcom nv tool showed my esn as dead and mied as 000....000 does the dead thing mean it isnt repairable ?
I tried using QPTS but this is where I get stuck.. (img attatched)

People want money for it because it's mostly used for making stolen phones work again.
That means real life risks like fines, jail etc.
Of course there are lots of examples when people experiment with this or that and delete their imei accidentally, or want to change the imei for some other reason. But these are more rare.
An update...
I managed to finally get flashed to stock...still null/null imei & baseband unknown. Efs folder is still there with files, keystr file is on...not sure what else I can do myself at this point so, I guess its time for the Polish dude or mobiletechvideos.

so, i just got a broken SR with a cracked lcd off ebay for $50 and used the motherboard from it.

Ohkies.
Did you ask the polish guy about the reason why he was not able to fix your mobile. Coz, I'm just having similar problem like yours. I tried working with all the local samsung service centre guys, nothing worked. One guy said that my mobile IMEI is locked in some database, so it is not picking or detecting my SIM, hence locked. I know that my mobile is unlocked and is valid, I ignored his comments.
I assume you changed your MotherBoard of the mobile with the new cracked SR's, so that it could take new IMEI instilled in new board. Is it so?
Also, please suggest me about any alternatives on how to fix this problem.:crying:
Hi.
I recently flashed the iNfinity HD V2 rom on my Blu Life Play.
Since then I have not been able to get my sim to be recognize in the sim 2 slot.
It worked before I flashed the rom and I'm at a loss as how to resolve the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert on this, but here is my guess.
There are 2 versions of the Blu Life Play. One of which supports 850/1900 3G bands, the other working with 850/2100. Both of these versions of your phone have 2 sim card slots. My guess would be (and odds are I am not right) is that you flashed the ROM corresponding to the opposite version of the Life Play that you have, and that caused some sort of issue. Like if you had the L100a, you might have accidentally flashed the L100i ROM, or the other way around.
Check the thread or page that you got the ROM from. That 2nd SIM card slot issue might be a known issue. Usually ROM developers will post a "What's Working" and "What's Not Working" section on the thread or page they made for their ROM. Check to see if the SIM card issue is in the "What's Not Working" section.
Hope this helps!

If it is really necessary that you have the 2nd SIM card slot, just go back to the stock version of Android that came with your phone, and then from there try to get another ROM. That way, even if you are unable to find another ROM that doesn't have the 2nd SIM card issue, at least you will be running a version of Android that does support it.

My main issue at the moment is actually getting the phone back to stock; every time I flash it there seems to be remnants of the old rom.
I cant' seem to get it back to stock.
I managed to get the phone back to stock including the recovery.
I still can't get the phone to recognize the sim.
After reading some threads here I think I flashed a rom for L100i instead of L100a.
I think the problem is to do with the modem.
Can anyone help me please?
I think I have the problem narrowed down to not having a IMEI number.
I have no back up of it.
Is there any way I can get a the IMEI back on my phone?
Phone is no longer rooted and having trouble rooting again.

If all you did was restore a recovery-made-backup, I don't think that will restore original baseband and stuff. If this is how you got back to stock, that means that although you are running stock BLU-Android, you are still using the broken L100i incompatible baseband.
I am not sure if this phone is compatible with ODIN, but if it is and you can find a tutorial on how to restore your L100a back to stock with ODIN then this is what you want. I am not sure what ODIN stands for, but it's a download tool used for not only restoring a phone's android operating system back to stock, but the other things that a plain old recovery-backup doesn't cover like kernel and baseband. ODIN requires a Windows PC with the correct phone drivers installed. So in this case you need the your phone's drivers from BLU on your computer, so that when you plug the phone in it is recognized as a BLU Life. Again, I am not sure if there even is an ODIN image for your phone since generally BLU phones are not that popular on XDA, but if there is then follow the instructions and use that to restore back to stock instead of just using a recovery backup.
IF YOU DO FIND AN ODIN IMAGE FOR IT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE OF INSTALLING THE "I" VERSION INSTEAD OF THE "A" VERSION! MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE ODIN IMAGE IS THE EXACT ONE FOR YOUR PHONE!!!!
EDIT: I just re-read your post and realized I didn't exactly answer your question. Sorry about that.
You should do the ODIN thing I mentioned above, just to make sure that you are on the right baseband. However I do not think this restores your IMEI as well. I Google'd how to restore a lost IMEI on an Android phone and got a couple articles on how to do so. One of these articles tells that CHANGING THE IMEI OF YOUR PHONE IS ILLEGAL!!!!! However It doesn't sound like this applies to you according to what you said, because you are only trying to restore a lost IMEI number, not change an already existing one.
Have a look at this article.
Good luck! :cyclops:

All I'm trying to do is get the IMEI that came with the phone back on it; nothing illegal.
Mobile ODIN is not compatible with my device.
I would like to get back to full stock; can anyone help with that please?
I have seen that SpFlashtool might be useful for me.
The only problem is is that I have no experience with it.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to use it safely?
I'm not sure if people have any interest in this, but I think I have have the problem resolved.
I flashed octarom_kk_iq4410_v3_fixed which seem to give me a baseband then I used SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1328.0.183 to flash a secro.img.
after all that my imei's were restored.
Edit: I got it back to proper firmware, but now have an issue with re-locking the bootloader so that I can install an OTA and make my sim card recognizable again. "Still waiting for signed boot.img"; can anybody provide a DL link to a signed boot.img for my specific model? [PCO29.114-54-2]
I'll try to keep this short and simple. It's my first post to these forums (hi), so sorry if I say stuff that sounds really simple or silly.
So, for a while now, I was dealing with a lot of really minor issues on my phone that I was told by those I asked was corruption in the android stock firmware. It wasn't anything major, but the issues were building up, and factory resets weren't fixing any of them. So, with my phone already out of warranty, I decided there wouldn't be any harm in trying to fix it myself. After reading up on it a little, I unlocked my bootloader, then I decided I would try flashing a custom ROM.
Well... I didn't even get that far. I was trying really hard to use the TWRP to back up my phone, but it kept getting errors. Looking it up, people said you just have to delete corrupted files to make it work, so I went back and forth wiping the files that gave it issues, until eventually I just decided to give up because there were so many corrupted files, just in the boot folder alone. When I went to turn the phone on and throw in the towel... I got the dreaded bootloop.
I freaked out, and decided that since I could still get into fastboot mode, I would try to stock the flash firmware to fix it. So, I went online, just found stock firmware, ran a batch file that did it all automatically, and...
When I turned my phone on, it was for the complete wrong carrier. Previously, it was a device I bought from T-Mobile, and thus, I was using a sim card and all that from them. Now the device is tied to Cricket, and so, of course, that stuff doesn't work.
Weirdly, there's other issues on the device now too, like when trying to add a Google account, the phone just closes out of everything...
Well.
I do know there's a guide here for how to flash the phone back to original firmware (although they don't have my firmware (M3DE6) listed), but there's other issues now, too. Stuff like the IMEI are totally wiped from the phone's memory now, just being listed as "Unknown" in the phone's settings. Not to mention, everytime I turn on the phone, I get text that says "bad ID" and it takes an additional 10-15 seconds to turn on. Is there any way to fix all this stuff? I don't mind if I have to restore it to OG stockware or if flashing a custom ROM will fix the problem- I just really need my phone to be able to work with my sim card again so I can take and make calls/texts.
I've still got to pay on my phone for a year still via the contract I made with T-Mobile, so it'd really suck if my phone got stuck in an unusable condition like this. If there's anybody who could just help me get it back to WORKING condition (calls/texts, google accounts, etc.), then I would greatly appreciate that. Thanks.

I did find my device's actual stock firmware from another website and installed it, but now the sim card doesn't work. I've heard that if I perform an OTA update, it'll make it work again, but... I can't perform an OTA update because the bootloader is unlocked. I can't re-lock it, because everytime I try, it gives me a message that says "Still waiting for signed boot.img".
Someone said to use the rescue and smart assistant app, but it doesn't recognize my phone, so that's a no-go.

I tried a ton of different fixes and approaches, and I still can't get it to work. I'm gonna make a new thread now since I've got a new main issue to deal with. This is... a mess.
