[Q] Inspire stream to PS3 via DLNA

I was wondering if anyone has tried to stream from the inspire to their PS3 or even Xbox. It's supposed to support DLNA which should let it stream media to either device but I have had no luck with my PS3 so far. I've even tried changing settings on my router with no luck. If you've gotten it to work please let me know if there is anything specific you did or if it worked out the box. I'm hoping its something simple I'm just missing here. Thanks for the help in advance.

I ended up downloading the Twonky app. It's free and it will allow the PS3 to access the files on your phone. I was even able to play videos recorded with the phone. DoubleTwist didn't work as well for me.
Seems to be an issue with the PS3 as there are a ton of discussions on the net. The way is should work is that the phone should act as the controller like it does with windows media player, not letting the other device pull info.

Google TV Help - from Canada Eh!

Hello,
Wondering if I can get some general help, I know the google TV is american only but I like to have some fun as well.
First, I can't download the google TV Remote app on my samsung galaxy i9000, I've tired downloading an .apk but it just didn't work, any suggestion or how to guides on this.
The Google TV works better than I first though it would in canada I can control my PVR some what and I faked an american comcast zip code and the search feature works some what but of course the programming and channel numbers for comcast don't match my Shaw Cable account, is there any way around that, in the settings I noticed it was pulling that info from some file, any idea how to trick it?
Also I am quite disappointed with the way I can't play almost any media files on my computer, the closest I have come is using my playon media service and the m.playon.tv with my lan on the google chrome but its so bad, was getting some Hulu access if I was running my VPN but I kept getting time out errors, worked fine on my phone browser tho. Any suggestions or other programs or ways?

Bump!/Update
Very much thanks to BluechipJ for sending me the google TV app, worked out great.
So more of the reading I've done seems that this box just doesn't support local media files very well, I've tired a few media servers,
TVersity worked somewhat good, some play back on all files but still couldn't get a great all around experience.
Playon which has been my main media server works the best so far, but only on the mobile side, if you use the browser and go to m.playon.tv and have it setup on your computer you get access to hulu (with VPN) and all your media. Interface is not very good on the m.playon side but it works. Still having problems getting complete hulu playback and have issues with larger MKV files but I had those issues on the PS3 so still have to figure out whats causing it.
If anyone has any other suggestions or experience I'd like to hear some more.

Just wanted to do one more and see if anyone else had any suggestions, after more reading and trying out some new things finding Twonky is a good media server pick, for both the google tv and your phone.
Whats great about Twonky if they have your Twonky Manger on the computer which Logitech revue will recognize and mainly works in logitech media player, MKV still an issue if you have the right audio code it would work, I've switch to downloading MP4 files as I can still get good quality and it works well.
Also there is Twonky mobile for your phone, works well with the logitech revue as you can play videos music and pictures right from your phone to the TV, the Beam option doesn't work to my knowledge but isn't a big deal to me.
I'm sure lots of people know about Twonky already but it was new to me and worked very well with my Galaxy S and Logitech revue and seems to be a good system, the app is free but Twonky Manger is $20 I think, also works great with a PS3 system as well.
Hope to get some other suggestions or Ideas, kinda weird updating my posts all the time.

How to use Play To Feature?

I have been trying to get this feature to work for a while now, Microsoft has been no help because all of the tutorials involve using media player on desktop win8. The option comes up when you select a music file in windows explorer under the Play tab in the ribbon. It is supposed to allow you to stream to dlna devices or other computers on your network. I have the proper media sharing options enabled on both my win8pro laptop and the surface, but I can not get it to ungrey going either way (play from laptop to surface or surface to laptop). The normal tutorials involve creating a playlist in media player then using the play to option in it, which is still grayed out on my laptop. The surface can see the laptop over the network, and the laptop can see the surface as well.
Later I am going to try turning on the server option in services on the surface and see if that works
Anyone else gotten this to work? It just seems like such a great idea, have your laptop plugged into the stereo and then play stuff to it remotely from your surface. I wish that Microsoft had implemented this as robustly as the play to Xbox option because I don't want to buy an Xbox just to stream music while I have other computers that could do that just as easily.

Make sure the media sharing services are running and permitted through the firewall. Beyond that, I don't know. I've never actually heard of the functionality like you describe - PlayTo is intended for devices (i.e. "not computers" where a Windows RT tablet is a computer, but an Xbox 360 is a device). There are (much) cheaper DLNA receivers than Xbxoes, incidentally.

I use the play to now and again, I stream video files to my DLNA TV. Though I tend to prefer to use my laptop for this due to its support for mp4/mkv files. Just ensure the device ur streaming to comes up in the devices part of the metro settings, and as mentioned, ensure your firewall isn't blocking it.

Unfortunately, it has to be a Microsoft-certified DLNA receiver for Metro apps to be able to share to it. There are a bunch of those, but it's not quite as easy as just getting a DLNA receiver. You can use Play To to a non-certified receiver from the desktop though.
For the original poster, to be able to Play To a laptop, you need to enable an option in Windows Media Player and have that open. The option is "Allow Remote Control of my player" under the Stream menu (in WMP12 at least).

@jhoff80: Cool, thanks for the tip, didn't know about that feature!
@Doggydude: Be aware that Windows RT doesn't include Media Player, so it may be unable to receive DLNA. The other direction should, in theory, work after enabling it as jhoff80 suggested.

Thanks for your input guys, I will continue to work on native play to, but courtesy of a pm from neoncell who doesn't have full permissions yet there is an app called play to receiver in the store that should do what I want fairly well.

@gooddaytodie I might look into a receiver, but I'd rather just use existing hardware. My stereo and tv are too old to have even basic internet support. I wish that Microsoft had implemented other device options other than just an Xbox for native media streaming in their music and video apps.

My Samsung TV is not Microsoft certified. Does that mean I need this Play To app/program to stream video from my tablet to my tv? How do I get it?

That means you have to do it from the desktop. Right click (tap-and-hold) on the MP3 audio file or MP4 video file that you want to play to your TV, and it should give you the option to Play To, with a callout menu that lists your TV. That will give you a small set of controls to play the video or audio file, with playlist functionality there as well. (Looks like they just pulled the necessary parts from WMP).

I highly doubt it, you need an app that has the ability to stream.
Microsofts media apps for win8 have xbox streaming built in

HTML5 video is supposed to work that way, but I've never tried it myself.

Measy U2A crashing on doing heavier jobs in XBMC

Hi,
I have recently bought the Measy U2A, only because I wanted to play XBMC on my non-internet TV via HDMI and connect this to my NAS.
This device seemed ideal as it was stated to be Neon-compatible and it was stated that this device could handle XBMC perfectly. Now, as I have tried to install every different version of XBMC for Android on it and I always get the same problem: XBMC crashes and gives a black screen from the moment that I let it do some heavier work (for example when he has added a location with movies and is scraping the content of this location). Any idea what could be done about this?
My sole purpose for the Measy was to use it as a mini-HTPC and the summary lines of this device made me believe it was possible so I hope I am overlooking something or that there is a solution to this problem. (I am using the standard skin, so even without using the heavier Aeon Nox skin it still crashes)

Shield like streaming except to PC?

I've had such a positive experience with shield streaming even remotely it has renewed my interest in streaming to multiple platforms.
Has any software come out to low latency stream one PC to another PC? I'd love to be able to use relatively cheap laptops which have massive battery life and use my home computer to do all the computing like with the shield.
Anyone have any experience with trying this?

The best you're probably going to get is using Splashtop. I've used it to play games that were on my desktop, but had problems with a couple occasionally.

Limelight
These guys have worked on porting the the protocol and tech that the shield uses (Gamestream) to other android devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505510
They are currently working on porting it to PC. There is a pre-alpha build of the program in the thread but you should note that the program is in its very early stages.

Splashtop 2 is the best I've used, well worth the sub, especially if you own multiple machines.
One thing i have noticed since I started using the shield is that splash-top now streams games just fine to any of my devices in true full screen, it used to tell me full screen was incompatible with splash top but ever since i started streaming with the shield it works just fine. It must be something related to the shield/geforce experience streaming software that tricks the slashtop into working in fullscreen.

Hm if I want to use splashtop I'll have to re-setup vpn again so I don't have to pay that remote cost. I wonder if someone ever wrote a program like the shield proxy to forward just the stuff used by splashtop to my PC to avoid slow VPN.
Let me know how that kainy.com works out seems a bit sketchy to me lol

You can also use Limelight for remote streaming. It works with Shield Proxy just the same as the real streaming software on the Shield itself. Just run the Windows binary on the machine that you'll be streaming from, setup the port forwarding, and you're set. Whenever you connect remotely, specify the external IP address of your router.

Well my shield works fine what I'm trying to do now is do shield quality streaming to another PC. I have this very powerful desktop and a bunch of fairly weak laptops would love to stream to a laptop to use my desktop quality gaming anywhere for those games which need a keyboard and mouse and cant do on shield.

Yep, there's a PC port of Limelight that uses the same technology as the Shield. There's more info in the Limelight thread.

Well that's worth a look it seems people have got streaming to work to their Rasberry Pi and here i was worried about using a very low powered high battery life laptop.
