Hello all,
So I have TWRP 2.6 for my boot recovery on my Transformer Prime TF300T and just installed CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly build. I couldn't get the 10.0 most recent stable build to actually load up. But the problem that I'm having is now certain applications give me a "Can't download: Error 497" from the playstore. And I get this error with "Goo Manager", "Clean Master", and for some reason "X Comics". But everything else downloads just fine. I've uninstalled, reinstalled the ROMS several times. Done wipes up the wazoo, and so this should be as clean as can be. Like I said, everything works great, but I just can't get those applications. Hoping someone may have a solution.
Thanks.
This sounds similar to problems that I and others are having over here. Does it happen when using cellular data or WiFi? If it's only with WiFi, who is your ISP?
The TF300T is Wi-Fi only. So Cellular isn't an option for me on this device. My ISP is Comcast. Just seems really weird that it's only specific applications.

There are a few causes. Are you using app2sd? Have you fixed permissions? Have you cleared its Data and cache ( under settings / application manager )?
Have you modified your build.prop? Have you modified your dns ( or has another app modified it ) ?
Quoted from a wiki : " Error 497 is related to a downloading category and you usually encounter it while you try to update the applications using a WiFi connection. In this case, adding Google DNS addresses (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) to your router's configuration settings could solve the problem. "
If none of this works, just google for the app as an apk file and sideload it. Its not a fix for your issue but you can at least get the appp you want installed.
Download the following apk files using your tablet's browser. Then click to install. They are all the latest versions available on the market. I downloaded them on my note 2, backed them up, and uploaded to dropbox for ya.
Heres cleanmaster : http://db.tt/GCqaGdO0
Heres xcomics : http://db.tt/TfLdPn0O
Heres goo manager : http://db.tt/QmvZfkAN

I have done a number of complete factory resets, wipes of not just cache but also system and data, with fresh factory images placed down, and I still get the same problem. The only thing that has fixed it for me on my new Nexus 7 has been to use my cell phone's tether so I connect over Sprint instead of Comcast, or to VPN into work which accomplishes the same thing. There's definitely a network issue somewhere, I'd strongly suspect a problem with accessing Google's CDN for app updates.
To answer some of your questions, I have not done any of that, and I'm not sure if any applications messed with my DNS, although I don't have a DNS service setup on my router, so not really sure how that would happen. And I'm not sure if I've fixed permissions yet or not, I'll have to look in recovery and see if I can't figure out a way to do that.
If you haven't guessed by this point, I'm pretty new at all of this. So I'm kinda' learning as I go. I very much appreciate the links for the apk's, and I have downloaded them so you don't need to keep them on your dropbox if you don't want. They work just as expected, so I do appreciate the assistance.
Thanks
If you have a chance, try taking the tablet somewhere where internet isn't provided by Comcast. If you look at the other thread, most of the people there are on Comcast. In my case, as soon as I connect with my phone over WiFi tethering everything works as expected. It's only when I'm on Comcast that I have issues downloading or updating apps.

When I get an opportunity to do so I will. Currently, I don't even know what apps won't work. Since I downloaded the apk's directly and what not, those were the only 3 that I knew were screwing up. But when I get a chance, I'll give the wi-fi a try somewhere else.

Help. I tried to upgrade to latest Google Maps on my TP. First I tried removing the older version with the "remove programs" function. It seemed to remove ok. Then I tried to download the newest version. It downloaded but had problems loading. When I finally loaded it, it freezes my TP each time I try to use it. I have to soft reset. I can't even remove this version or copy a new version over it.
Any ideas?
are you sure you can't re-install it?
Try downloading the cab again and then re-installing it. What error are you getting that won't allow u to re-install?
I've tried a few times. I tried downloading to my laptop, then to the TP and also direct download onto TP. Everytime, (either way) it causes TP to freeze. For direct download method I've used both Opera and IE. When I have finally gotten Google Maps (GM) to load, it freezes my TP when I try to launch it.
I have also tried deleting all instances of GM in registry and using file explorer, but the end result is the same.
I was running version 3.0.x of GM and it was slow but worked ok.
The only other recent change is that Windows Live Search changed over to Bing.
Is it possible Bing is blocking Google?

Bing would have no affect on GM.
I would suggest making sure you have a good internet and GPS signal as it may be trying to access your comm ports on startup.
Also, how are your system resources? Do you have enough to run it?
Not sure if you're on a stock or cooked ROM, etc. but too many flashes w/o flashing back to stock can cause strange anomalies as well.
Bruce,
I'm not sure about the exact signal, but this seems to be failing at points before program starts up. The old version worked ok. Would deleting the program and its settings file cause any issues?
As for Roms, I am using original ROM version: 1.94.710.2 WWE
and radio version: 1.02.25.19
Does the newest version of GMaps have any issue with these?
As for resources, I have about 240mb free - storage
and 120mb free - Program
when I am trying to use or load GM.
Maybe this version is conflicting with something on my TP?
Where can I get a slightly earlier release of GM than this newest version?
I thought I had an earlier version but I only have the OEM package.
If you google it you can find earlier versions.
You might want to try flashing a newer version of your stock ROM if its available to rule out any software conflicts.
I have absolutely no issues with GM.
Well At least Google Maps is only Crashing your Touch Pro instead of your Car.
Jimmy,
Give it a chance. I'm sure with some tweaks, GM can have me driving off bridges in no time.
Now I have another problem that may be related.
When I use Bing, if I try to update Categories, I get an error message that says
can't update categories please check network connection. I have access.
Everything else about Bing seems to work.
Any ideas here?

Have you cleared your proxy and verified your connection settings?
I can't update categories or collections. Bing keeps asking me to check my network connections. I did and they seem ok. I haven't changed them and can connect to internet.
What am I missing?
Problem solved!!
On a MS forum, I received the solution that fixed my Bing problem. All I had to do was delete the cache files for Bing (Bing and Live Search). Once I did that, Bing was back in the lineup.
Thanks to those that helped me with this frustrating problem.
Would one of the Dev's be willing to tackle getting VPN PPTP with encryption (mppe 128 or 256) working on the G-Tab? Right now it is either not working or working as unsecured PPTP (depending on the ROM). If anyone knows of a ROM where this is functional please let me know.
What little I have found on the history of VPN in android indicates that the last version with encrypted PPTP was version 1.6. Google was having problems keeping a connection to the VPN server.
Reference: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4706
For myself and my coworkers this has become an important need. If we can't get the feature we may be forced to get iPads (*cringe*). I for one am willing to make donations to Dev(s) who can add this. Some ROMs have the option but seem to be lacking the module (unconfirmed) to handle encryption through the included PPPD.
It is possible this may come back in Android 3.0 since it is geared toward tablets but I haven't been able to find any information either way.
Thank you for your time.

Did you try one of clemsyn's latest kernels - they have the tun support. Also on market place there is an OpenVPN app that attempts to install an openvpn binary - that same dev also has an OpenVPN settings app that you can use to create your tunnel. Perhaps that will work for you.

I can currently get a VPN connection, but the server refuses it because it isn't encrypted - even with the encryption option on. I'll try clemsyn's kernel. I noticed he posted one specific to the ZTab ROM recently.

No luck. Tried the new kernel and still get the same error. G-Tab shows connection lost. Server log shows same error (port 47 blocked or unable to negotiate encryption). Since our laptops all work I'm going to assume port 47 isn't blocked on our network. Maybe not enabled on G-Tab?
Which ROM are you using?
EDIT: nevermind - I see zpad rom. Did you try the vegan rom or tnt rom?
I am setting up a server with two cards and windows server 8 and an accesible ip just as test lab for this. If any dev wants access pm me.

Try this, I enabled everything re: PPP in this kernel including PPTP and also enable MPPE (Microsoft PPP Encryption). I hope this helps. BTW, this MPPE is experimental in the kernel but I hope it works for you.

Brillant! I have a connection! From home even. Many Thanks! (but I can only hit the button once...)
I'll keep an eye on it and see how long the connection lasts. That seemed to be the bug that killed Google's interest in this. With luck it wont show because someone tweaked over it.
I'll spread the word. Thanks again!!
Update: Unfortunately the data traffic stops within a minute. The connection stays up and reports a server connection just no data passes. This is the same issue as Google has in it's bug report. I"ll look at the server logs in the morning to see if anything is reported, but it is at least a step in the right direction.
BTW: The GUI seems a bit faster. Were there any other tweaks in that kernel?

I might have to take a pause on this since I'm having issues with my Gtab at the moment. My screen turned white and I can't see a thing. I was playing angry birds and noticed that my screen sensitivity turned bad and a few seconds later it turned all white. I might have to get a replacement for my Gtab
I can build the kernel for Vegan tab but there is no way for me to test it but it should work fine
I read a post that doing this might fix it:
Add the following to /etc/pptpd.conf
mru 1280
mtu 1280
Please try and see how it goes.
More Info
I had our network admin look at the VPN server logs for my connection. No errors or warning from the server.
One interesting thing to note, it seems that when the data transfer between the tab and the VPN server stops it's only one way. I was able to send mail out from the tab, but not receive mail or view web pages. I'm wondering if the decryption side (incoming to tab) of MPPe is broken. That could explain why the server keeps a connection, but the data flow seems to stop.
Could we steel code from a linux kernel that works?

I don't have a pptpd.conf in /etc. What is the file syntax? I'll make one and copy it in. I'm assuming this is ./etc and not ./system/etc.
Edit: Never mind found info here: http://www.linux.org.au/~quozl/pptp/pptpd.conf.5.html
Edit Edit: Ok I think I have reached the level of my ignorance. How do you get a file copied to /etc? I have tried a file manager with SU permissions, and a terminal with SU permissions. In both cases I am getting a permission denied error. What's the secret?

So close ... I think Google may need to work out a few of their bugs first.
First off a big thanks to clemsyn for the hard work. (I used Root Explorer to copy the file pptp.conf)
Using the latest kernel posted here for VeganTab I was able to connect to a MS PPTP VPN and ping for a long while however just like my Samsung Vibrant the VPN appears to die once a burst of traffic is shot through the tunnel. The tunnel I have discovered is not disconnected but unusable through the Android system. If I disconnect the VPN session remotely the log files indicate that the remote server killed the connection. Not sure much can be done as now I feel I am hampered by Google's inability to care for VPN access. I am sure the developers here can figure this out but why should they have to figure this out when it seems to be a fundamental issue with Google's code. Maybe this disconnection does not happen with OpenVPN? Anybody use it? I am tempted to setup a test OpenVPN server just to see how long I can keep my connection.
BTW ... After remotely killing the VPN connection the VPN services crashes and throws up an exception in the back ground when terminating the service.
Not working. I might try without the encryption in the server side to check if that works. It actually connects (pings) a couple of seconds with the LAN computers... then it nevers connects again... even with reboots. Does the pptpd.conf only need those two lines?
I found this site which may help
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6402
A user stated this:
"Hey! Saw another post elswhere in the forum. For Microsoft VPN using PPTP, I think it helps to disable Software Compression in Routing and Remote Access Manager on the Windows server hosting VPN. After I did that, I was able to connect to VPN.
In Routing and Remote Access Manager, right click on the server in the tree and select Properties. Then, under the PPP tab, uncheck Software Compression. I am the Sys Admin at my Co, so I was able to do this myself. Others may have to submit a request to your respective Sys Admins. Besides, who uses compression on VPN's since the death of Dial-up?
Good Luck!"
Just yesterday I updated to 3.2 and flashed Tiamat 2.1 ROM and Tachi Kernel also. I am not able to access certain sites such as fb, xda, xoomforums ets. But youtube loads fine. This problem was present in 3.1 also. But it solved by itself. What is the issue?
Thanks in advance.

Please correct me if I am wrong
Upon reading your request and reading about 2.1 Hammerhead and TACHI (url's are where I read) I am to believe that you have the 3g Model of the Motorola Xoom, and not the Wi-Fi only one.
Before you flashed the ROMs, when you were on STOCK, you were able to access the Web Pages and had this trouble before but it fixed itself.
Here is my list of questions to help us, help you!
Are you using the Browser that came with the tablet (Not Opera/Firefox/Dolphin/Etc)
~If no, then which broswer are you using?
~If yes, Have you tried to clear the browser history/cach/cookies?
~~I ask this because when I have lock up for downloads it is because of too much information being stored in one place...
When you use your Youtube function, are you going to WWW.Youtube.com, M.Youtbe.com, or the APK? Same with the other websites that you use too please
Are you in a 3g zone and have you not gone over your allotted package that you pay for through your carrier?
I hope we can help you fix this as soon as possible!

I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=945 to update to 3.2. It says wifi only. Also since I connect to an ad hoc network which the stock HC doesn't support, I'm unable to check if my wifi is broken unless I go my friends home which has a wifi router.
That aside.
-I am using the stock browser. I tried Dolphin but the same problem persists.
-Tried clearing cache, cookies, history and even application data. Even force close, factory reset, reboot Nothing works.
-I navigate to www.youtube.com from the browser itself.
--> Normal apps can use the internet normally.
-I share the 3g from my phone and my plan hasn't run out
--> I tried uninstalling and installing Joikuspot, restarting the phone etc. Issue is not with the phone. Else why woud only a few pages load on my xoom but on my laptop it works fine.
PS- When this problem happened earlier I was on 3.1 with the team tiamats rom and kernel. The whole reason why I upgraded was hoping this problem would go away.

Hypothesis: XDA and other sites use advertising banners which might block loading while their content is loading: sometimes their servers are slow.
(I have this issue occasionally on my Xoom, but not on the same sites with my desktop/netbook because of adblock plus.)

Ok, you are using stock browser, which means that it is trying to load up pages as a ANDROID PHONE/TABLET which makes pages read funkly because they are not coded for mobile. (Examples of mobile pages are but not limited to - M.Google.com M.Facbeook.com www.53.mobi and so on...) I asked if you used Dolphin because it has a setting in the browser that allows you to change the Reader to emulate a desktop computer, a IPod Touch, an IPad, and so on. (Opera Browser Also allows you to do this.) I am actually talking to you on my Dolphin Browser at this current moment on the Desktop Setting!
There is a way to test to see if this is the problem with pages not being able to load in the Android version of the code reader on the Stock Browser (as Dolphin and Opera are just a slight copy and epic change of it.) Here is the list of steps --
Open Stock Browser
type in to Address Bar, without quotes -- "about:debug"
Go to Settings for the browser though the menu key (the drop down at the top right of the tablet)
Go To Debug On Settings (at the very bottom usually)
Go to UAString (Towards the Bottom) and when you open it, you will see Android, Desktop, Iphone, (or something close to this)
Select Desktop and back up to the main part of the browser (This will save the settings)
From there, go to www.facebook.com and if it does not change your url to m.facebook.com, you have sucessfully changed your browser to emulate a Desktop Browser *Please note, that if you are not wanting to do this, Please use the settings in Opera Browser or PDolphin, where they openly state this process in roughly 4 clicks in the settings!*
Please let us know if this helps and if it does, WALA keep the settings (or do what I do, get Dolphin/Opera/Firefox and make them the Desktop Broswers and then use the regular browserfor pages that I know are mobile!)
GOOD LUCK!
Do you have a T-Mobile US device that redirects you to T-Mo's site whenever you try to wireless or USB tether your computer? Here are two work arounds to stop that:
Difficulty: Easy. ROM: Any. Description: Spoof computer web browser to say 'Android' when loading web pages.
1) Install an EU ROM. Any ROM based on T-Mobile US has a script that will block tethering if Android is not recommended.
2) (SUGGESTED) (Avoiding the script) No root needed. No APN switching (because that sh!t does not work). You need to spoof your computer's web browser to an Android device. Go on your add-ons/extensions installing page (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, maybe more) and search for a user account spoofer / switcher. I am on Chrome and I use 'Chrome UA Spoofer'. Select the Android Motorola Xoom device to spoof to. Tether via wireless or USB and it works constantly. The only downside is that some pages load in mobile view. You can easily select to show full web page. I used this for multiple hours, multiple PCs, multiple different times and never was redirected to T-Mo asking me to add tethering to my plan.
Why does this happen? Ever since Android 4.0, they added a script in the OS which does this. You cannot uninstall it because it is located very deep in the system (maybe you can, but no one has figured it out.) If you have a EU ROM (no wifi calling), then you will be fine to tether with no problems and no spoofing. Please click thanks if I helped
The APN thing does work; I use it daily for my Fire, and my laptop on occasion. Not to mention the FCC just smacked Verizon for $1.25M for blocking customers from tethering with third party apps, so T-Mobile should follow soon to avoid a similar fine.

T-Mobile should be stopped for that. But I have to say the the APN did not work for me. It worked for about 20 minutes, then I was never able to connect again.

Actually they don't have to allow tethering, nor will they be fined. This was a rule specific to LTE implementations. Since T-Mo is on HSPA+, those rules in no way apply to them.
Also, to the OP -- this works, but you need to keep in mind that it only would apply to web browsing. Tethering is detected via packet identification. The combination of the TTL (time to live) and the device (Android vs computer, etc) gives tethering away. If you were to use bittorrent on your computer, the packets would be identified as computer, and with a computer TTL.
Dang, that sucks. I thought it had to do with data limits, since they aren't required to allow it for their unlimited customers.

It's been figured out over on the Sensation forum. It's a tether apn set to be hidden in the apn.xml found inside the framework.apk, if I recall correctly. Steve from the Elegancia Rom should be able to help.

How did you get FoxFi to work? I tried it and said it won't work on this device. And when I use bluetooth, the tethered device can't do certain things outside of the browser.

It doesn't work on unrooted HTC Sensation (T-Mobile) for me so still trying to find something that does.

Then you are using the wrong rom,I was using Elegancia rom and it worked for me. You can't just root the stock rom and expect it to work, there is a separate hidden tether apn built into the framework.apk I believe.

Hope there is still someone checking in here that could give me some ideas about a little problem I'm having. Running an (obviously) rooted continuum,Ciscogee's deodexed EC09. Everything seems to work just fine, really well in fact, until I flash Trailblazer101's EC09 Everything_SpearoidBLUESOFTKEY.zip. After flashing this, I have problems with the browser FC'ing when trying to open HTTPS links, and I get a Nullpointerexception on a couple apps that working fine before. It seems to have something to do with the CertificateChainValidator. I've tried different Browsers from the Market, and they will open the HTTPS links, but I still get the nullpointerexception on the two apps, one is my mobile banking app and the other is a mobile app for Microsoft Outlook. It's not critical that I have these apps working, but it would be handy! I'm hoping that one of you "code gurus" know a relatively easy fix for this. I think I've attached a screenshot of the crash report, but I'm kinda new at this whole forum thing, so forgive me if I didn't get something right. If anyone has time to look into this and needs more information just let me know! I appreciate any help I can get!!
On a side note: Don't want anyone to think I'm complaining about either of these mods, in fact, even if I can't get this problem fixed I'm still going to use them...the "coolness" factor outweights not having a couple apps working!

The way that I fixed this issue personally was to go into Browser, then Settings, go to the Search Providers, and click "Bing". Let me know if that worked for you!
Thanks Trailblazer, that did fix the browser issue, but still having the FC with the apps. Do you know if the Everything mod changed/moved/removed anything concerning SSL or the Certificate Chain Validator? From what I can see the apps are complaining about something either not being there or already being used by another process, but I can’t even find where it is. To say I know nothing about Linux/Android programming is an understatement, so I'm kinda shooting in the dark Thanks for the help, and I appreciate the work you've done on this phone!

This has been brought up before by other people, and I can assure you that I didn't change anything to do with that, haha... There are a few guesses: I did change the Browser App to remove the "frozen" links and bing as the search provider as default... That modified apk is sometimes included in my packages... You can try restoring the original, but I don't think it'll help.... What fixed everything for me was doing what I said above... The other guess is that there may be something wrong with permissions, idk...
But I can promise you this: I didn't do anything to the Certificate Chain Validator, which in fact is a smali (source) file within the framework file...
Oh well, it's just my mobile banking app... get tired off looking at how much money I DON'T have anyway... and my work email, so no big deal. I have other secured apps that work fine, so it must be something about those two. It's worth not having those just so I'm not always accidentally hitting the ticker history and weather!
