[Q] root phone w/ mobile Odin? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is it possible to root with mobile Odin? I was just gonna flash a recovery .tar and go from there, any issues with that?
NM, just realized you need root for mobile Odin lol. Anyone know of a way to root without a computer?

Silly rooting question.

So I'm wondering if there is an easy way to root from the phone? Or any way for that matter. I'm on a cappy with stock 2.3.5 and wow it sucks. Its my wife's phone as I soft bricked my phone trying to flash helly bean over firefly 3.0. I'm guessing I didn't have the gb bootloaders. Though with this phone I do have them and should be able to easily flash helly bean with no problems once its rooted and I flash the proper kernal.

I always go to 4-2ndtwin's helpful links in his signature and use either Odin or Heimdall to install a kernel that will allow you to flash roms. Then you can just boot into recovery and flash.
I think there is a mobile odin on the market.
Ill look for mobile Odin.

Odin requires root. Is there a way to root from the phone?

No, you dont need root to use odin. Make sure you read up and find instructions. Flash a kernel with root and apply via CWM and there you go.

Mobile Odin does require Root.
And nope, no way to Root just from phone.
But there is no need to get Root if u r just gonna flash a Rom anyway. U will however need to use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel with the CWM Recovery baked in. (i recommend KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A ). Once u have flashed that kernel, just use button combo to reboot into cwm and then install ur Rom of choice that u should have already copied on ur phone. Success

Any roms for a Polaroid pmid10c? Or ambitions for one?
Anyone get Lucky enough to pick this up cheap? It has a few bugs but potential to be a really nice device... a recovery I guess would be a start since this is pre rooted...

Just grabbed this cheap from menards. Comes pre-rooted would love to to install a custom rom too.
This is the best I can find, not sure if it works yet as my PC is jacked ATM... It has cmr and bloat removed, pm me for other info... https://a170132.uranus.1blu.de//data/public/d9c188c9d2e5984b774443ddbe44e1b3.php?dl=true
So flash at your own risk obviously and you have to follow the same procedure as polaroid directs to when you first connect the tablet... The link will directly DL this .IMG file... I can't wait to flash it but can't ATM so when I do I'll post results here or if anyone else does please post results...
jr, I see you are in my neck of the woods. any updates on flashing with that rom? I have a couple of these that I am itching to crack the seal the on.
Root Access

Yep, works fine, just whatever you do, do not wipe cache/dalvik cache in recovery or any other way at all. Not sure why but doing so soft bricks...

1. Flash stock rom with mobile odin, select ever root
2. reset binary counter with triangle away and ensure binary counter is zero
3. in superSU select setting -- full unroot
4. done

factory reset ,might help
your tab will be left with rom only, all data, aps, files etc are deleted
Already did that as mentioned before in this thread because it was needed for total unroot. It seems like mobile odin has become a system app.

During reinstall rom from mobile odin previously you should only select everrot option and do not inject mobile odin, that's why mobile odin became sysytem aps
Finally it will be easier if you can find computer and flash trough odin pc

[Help] rooting w/o a pc

Help I'm trying to root or add CM10 to my Verizon GS3 SCH-I535 but I don't have a computer is there a way
I don't know of a way to root without a pc. Casual and Odin both require a pc

I think you are out of luck if you are on a verizon device because they come with a locked bootloader. If it was for another carrier it is possible.

This MAY work on Verizon, but not ENTIRELY sure. The guy who made the thread did say it worked on Sprint and T-Mobile S3's. But this post is all that I know of that provides a rooting from phone method.

Mobile Odin requires you to already have root access to function, so unfortunately he couldn't use Mobile Odin to flash a rooted stock ROM in this case.

The quickest way to do it I think if you didn't make a backup with flashify, which you should next time before you flash custom recovery again....is to CF-AutoRoot, Chainfires program roots with custom recovery then flashes stock right after so you will have stock recovery and stay rooted without doing anything else!
Thanks thats what i used to root so should be easy

No problem broskini! and sorry forgot to mention towel root, ive heard it does not trip knox, I got my phone before towel root. Towel root wouldn't do same thing as CF-Autoroot as far as flashing stock recovery! So do not use CF-Autoroot to get stock recovery if you Towel rooted.
I had my phone before towelroot also i wish id have waited to root for it but oh well still thanks for the info
