Help with stock kernel? - HTC One SV

Hey,
So I've flashed this russian kernel to remove system write protection (so I could change sdcard to sdcard2), but then I realised that my Wi-Fi wasn't working (stuck at Turning on..). To solve this issue I've attempted to flash back into what appears to be a stock kernel (which I found on AndroidFiles, K2_UL folder, stockboot.img). However, it didn't work, Wi-Fi is still stuck on Turning on..
I have the K2_UL model.
What could I do to get Wi-Fi working? Is there a working stock kernel around which I could try flashing?
Any help would be really appreciated :fingers-crossed:

Did you only flash boot.img or the libs too?
Here is stock kernel.

I've only flashed boot.img for the russian kernel.
However, I flashed the zip you linked me trough ClockworkMod Recovery and now it works like a charm!
Thanks a bunch, man! :good:

You always need to flash the libs too, otherwise wifi will never work.

When you load the kernel are you flashing the zimage manually or using a packaged update.zip that includes the wifi module for that kernel?
all im doing is using flashboot to flash the .img.
no idea how to flash it properly, could use your help

Are you building the kernel and boot image yourself or pulling them from somewhere?
I just downloaded netarchys 1.2.4 cfs, and extracted the .img and fastbooted it onto the phone.
What i think you're saying is that this is not the correct method to flash the kernel because the other folders are not being put on to the phone (hence broken wi fi)
If thats the case just need help to flash the kernel properly

Ah, indeed
So, that zip is meant to be applied via a custom recovery (CWM). It will flash not only the boot image, but also copy the newly build kernel modules, create a custom /etc/init.d and install busybox.
By flashing just the boot image you are missing the rebuilt modules and the custom init.d (which mounts /data with noauto_da_alloc, etc and sets windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=72 for better scolling performance. As a result of not having the rebuilt kernel modules when the network module tries to load (bcm4329.ko) the version number won't match the kernel and it will fail to load. If you check dmesg you'll see it complaining
Flash this via a custom recovery and you should be fine (just place the entire zip on your device and then chose it from CWM).
right, thanks that clears that up.
however, i have another problem now!
Basically i flashed the netarchy kernel, realized i had no wifi, did a factory reset thinking ill get back to stock, however im stuck with this netarchy kernel AND ive lost CWM.
3G is being a pain and not downloading properly etc.
Is there any way for me to reset and just flash CM7 and Netarchy 1.2.4
im outta ideas :/ thanks for the help!

When you reboot on a stock rom there is a script that checks recovery and if it is not stock it will reflash the stock recovery. This is an easy fix though. If you want to stay on stock you can flash CWM through fastboot, flash the SU binary and then rename/delete the script (/etc/install-recovery.sh or something like that).
If you want to just flash CM7 then just download the full zip and place it on the phone. Flash CWM through fastboot, boot into recovery and flash CM7 as desired (RC or nightlies). Then go ahead and apply the appropriate netarchy kernel - there's a separate version for CM IIRC. Make sure you do a full wipe before you flash CM7.
Ok so im downloading rom manager onto my phone, downloading CM7 on pc, then will transfer to phone (whole zip right?) then i just reboot in recovery, wipe and flash CM7, and THEN start on the kernel lol
Ok thanks ill keep ya updated really appreciate it
edit
Thanks a lot booted and rooted running CM7 and Netarchy

[Q] Switch between ICS and JB mods?

Hey Guys,
I´m new to HOS custom mods and so I have a question.
Yesterday I successfully installed Trickdroid 9.1 which is JB and would like to try Vipermod which is ICS.
I would do it like this: Go to recovery, clear cache, dalvik, system and simply install the rom.
To switch back to Trickdroid, I have to flash the stock 9.0 Trickdroid rom and then restore my backup.
Is this procedure right?
Thanks alot for all your work, I really like this site!
Sounds about right... Except I dont think you need to flash trickdroid before restoring your backup.
Ive been switching between viper and Dark Jelly a few times by only restoring the backups (+fastboot flash the boot.img's)
Thanks!
I´ll give it a try this afternoon

Just make sure to fastboot the boot.img from the Viper ROM (ie extract the boot.img from the Viper ROM and then fastboot flash boot boot.img)
The kernels for JB and ICS are not the same. you would need to flash the rom and fastboot the boot.img unless you are on a low hboot (ie ver 1.06, 1.09)
Viper provides a flash-script in their thread, so all you need to do (for viper) is extract it and doubleclick flash-boot-windows.bat
Hint: That also works with other boot.img's. Simply replace the boot.img with any other boot.img
Thanks for the replies! Flashing the boot.img with commandline is no problem!
Both work great, but I think I´ll stay with Trickdroid until ViperOneS 2 is released
Anyway thanks for the infos!

[Q] Changing Stock kernels

Hi,
I have managed to put on a kernel that's not working. Is there a way to revert back to the original kernel? I do have a nandroid backup, but re-installing that didn't put on the old kernel.
I am using Liquidsmooth ROM. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
if you can boot into the rom use flashimagegui, if not do the normal fastboot the boot.img then do it again with flashimagegui to get the modules.
what kernel did you try to flash? the only kernel that will work with new liquidsmooth is cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.3.zip. it contains modules, if you aren't s-off then you need to flash boot.img in fastboot then flash again in recovery for the modules.

I did exactly that, presuming that it was working... But I have been facing issues. The phone restarts every once in a while and I have managed to get to this condition after multiple wipes and restoring a backup. Anyways I don't know what the issue is I was just wondering how to revert back to the original kernel.
im running Liquid-JB-v2.1-RC2-evita.zip and cm10.1_vz-oc-linaro.3.zip. there seem to be some general issues with the rom that present as basically glitching and gets worse overtime atleast for me. im pretty sure it isnt related to the kernel. but to revert kernel just load the liquidsmooth zip into flashimagegui and itll pull the needed files, let it wipe cache and dalvik then reboot.

also new stable build of liquidsmooth just got released. you should flash it. imma flash it with a clean full wipe. but you should s-off first so you dont have to flash boot.img separately every rom.

Ya, I saw the new version wanted to try that which is why I wanted to got to the old kernel version. I had tried installing it with the linaro kernel but it gets stuck on the boot screen.
Update: - I installed the flash gui image, then extracted and installed the kernel , factory reset the phone, then installed the latest liquid smooth build. But it is still not going ahead of the boot animation.
Update 3 :- Got the old kernel back. Did a restore. Working fine now . But still for some reason I cannot install the new ROM yet.

you need everything. you don't need to extract the kernel. just load the whole zip file.

I did load the full file and the flash gui image extracted the kernel. The thing is I have the kernel now, but still I can't seem to be able to install the new version of the LiquidSmooth build. I am doing a nandroid backup of this thing and try installing it again.
well new liquidsmooth is nice, im using cwm now as recovery since ive had tons of issues with twrp since version 2.2.2.0

[Q] My problem started day by day

Hello!
Firstly my wi-fi died. (could not connect to the internet, or even get IP adress)[same with bluetooth]
Then I reflashed another ROM, everything went good but day by day again wi-fi is dead.
__________________________
I checked stock rom, and It seems to be ok.
Step by step I :
-flash stock w/ flashtool;
-fastboot kernel w/ flashtool;
-flash phantom/thunderzap with that kernel;
-dirty flash or flash custom rom;
And wi-fi can not even turn on. Why?
So much blue screens occur.
I don't know what to do.
___________________________
P.S. Stock works fine.
edit. Flashed new .ftf and Carbon ROM. Wifi works but LED/flash light/brightness not working.

You need to flash kernel zip again after flashing rom. By kernel zip I mean the zip file that contains boot.img. It contains all the modules that you need for a working wifi.
Also, most roms require a clean flash and not dirty flash. You should check that with the rom though.
Do this:
First flash a custom kernel.
Then flash your rom using the recovery in that kernel.
Then flash the kernel zip(that I told you above). I'm sure your wifi will start working if you follow these steps carefully.
I again suggest a clean install instead a dirty one.
Hope it helps.
Hit thanks if it does.

Second problem was LED and other lights... It's rom (Carbon) problem, waiting for fix. Staying on Omni rom for now.

[Q] Rom question regarding Lollipop.

Hello guys,
I'm still relatively new to rooting stuff on the Nexus 5 (and 7). Running a rooted stock android 4.4.4. with Franco kernal, but with Lollipop now available.. Of course I want to upgrade. I am looking for a stock android 5 rom with prepoot. Is there a prerooted rom available? And do I have to flash stock kernal first before flashing the rom?
Thanks in advance!

Not exactly no. L root is different from KitKat. You have to flash a permissive boot.img (kernel) before flashing SuperSU in recovery.
There are flashable zips. There is one linked in the "guides and info" link in my signatrue (see section 6)... But you still need to flash the chainfire or @sykopompos Permissive boot.img

Thank you for the quick reply. The rom over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...-android-4-4-3-ktu84m-rooted-busybox-t2557523 may suit my needs indeed. Although he's saying "-Don't install SuperSU (won't work, must use CF-Auto-Root)"
So, in my situation.. what I should do would be:
Factory reset
Flash rom with TWRP (my recovery)
Flash radio
Use the latest CF-Auto Root (for Lollipop)
Do I keep my Franco kernal?

I wouldn't use CF autoroot myself. Its similar to a toolkit which we don't recommend.
All you do is flash ROM.zip
Flash Permissive boot.img (kernel)
Flash SuperSU (It will work in this case)
I'll see if I can find a link to @sykopompos boot image
No, I don't believe franco will work. I would recommend trying ElementalX though. You flash it after the permissive boot.img. You jeep the permnissive stuff as ElementalX doesn't replace RAMdisk (just modifies it) so you get best of both worlds.
Plus ElementalX is a great kernel. You'll also be running teh same setup as me then

Thanks allot for the explanation! Alright, to do:
Put rom on internal memory
Boot into TWRP recovery
Whipe everything, cache, system etc.
Flash the rom
Flash the radio
Flash permissive boot.img
Flash Elemental X kernal
Flash SuperSU
Then reboot
Is that the correct way?

Sorry for bothering.. I think I've got everything setup up.
I've downloaded the files:
bigxie_hammerhead_LRX21O-signed.zip (rom)
LGD820_LRX21O_RADIO.zip (radio)
N5_+LPX13D_ModifiedKernel (modified kernal)
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.01 (SuperSU)
ElementalX-N5-2.03 (ElementalX)
Is it correct to flash it in this order? Did I get all the steps? The files I have downloaded are partially for L developer (such as SuperSU) preview.. does that matter? I also see reports of sd card not showing up.. any problems ahead?

Guys, I got myself in some real trouble I think.
First of all:
I came from 4.4.4. stock rooted with Franco kernal
I did make a backup in TWRP, files are on my pc.
Process:
First of all, I did a factory reset in TWRP
I flashed the rom, radio, kernal for root and supersu.
First boot went fine, although WiFi couldn't be found.
I decided to boot into recovery again to wipe my SD Card
Upon rebooting, phone is looking all black without a real 'launcher', sd card not found etc.
Than:
I managed to push rom, radio, kernal and supersu to /sdcard by adb in rocovery mode
I reflashed all of these, but the same problems occur
What should I do now? I'm ****ting my pants..

Exactly same problem here, using the same rom. I only flashed the rom. All was fine in the first boot. The problem appeared after I formatted the sd card recovery TWRP version 2.8.0.1.. I tried also to reflash the rom with a full wipe from recovery, but nothing .. black background, no navigation bar, no sdcard and no sim is found.
Try updating TWRP to 2.8.1.0. Wipe system/data/cache/dalvik under advanced and then flash the ROM.
Sorry, only way I know how to flash a recovery is with fastboot, no zips...
Or fastboot flash the factory image but do each img separately as I hear there are still issues using the flash.all script when it comes to the system image.

I fixed it! Please check this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56743199&postcount=10 and follow the instructions.. you may have to flash the seperate .img files though, like I had to.
