One series compatibility, mods and apps - HTC One SV

First, to start off, I love this phone very much, but it saddens me the fact that it's listed as low activity device and therefore i consider it to be underrated.
My previous phone was Sony Xperia Live with walkman, and even though it was two classes below One SV, it had much greater modding community than One SV, and i believe that is due to compatibility with other Xperia 2011 lineup (LWW, Mini, Mini Pro, Active), i.e., more or less same hardware.
So... my question is the following, is our One SV smartphone compatible with other HTC One series phones (One V, S, X etc...) in a way that some mods/apps can be cherry-picked or just slightly modded to work on One SV?
What is necessary for app/mod to be compatible ? Resolution, Android version, Sense framework, drivers ?

Jup, Resolution, Android version, Software/Sense version.
At least there are for sure things which can be ported, but you need somebody who knows how and want to do!

Tbh, i dont know what is needed or how the porting is done. That said, i'm willing to try out some mods from the rest of One family and if proven successful i can share them to the rest.
Since i've noticed you're The man around here, what's your best bet on which devices stuff can easily be ported, i.e. where do i look ? What did it take to port Sense 5 camera ?

There is no easy way or device. This is simply a trial and error thing. But be carefull with things for flashing, cause flashed on wrong partition can brick your device.
Sense 5 camera is simply the camera.apk from a Sense 5 system dump. But there are other things that need more files to be ported, maybe libs or other apks, not only one apk.

Yeah, i always keep nandroid backup around, same as titanium

This one seems to be working perfectly:
Sense5 icons mod, grabbed it from One S forum -> link
From what i've seen, it replaces hdpi images, so no risky business afaik, but nandroid cant hurt
When i find more time, i might cherrypick other simmilar mods and make appropriate threads in app/themes section, but until then i've posted it here for anyone interested to test it.

Thanks for that !
When i was trying to "desense" a stock rom I tried a few mods and apks replacement... Some work perfectly, some don't at all.
Since I have no idea of why it would or wouln't work, I just had to try
If I find any of those I tried I'll post them here.

Also, just to let you know (those that didnt know already), UOT kitchen works great, i've just put custom battery icons (honeycomb style) on my rom.
Not sure if it works on non-deodexed version of rom (i'm using Saturn III that is already deodexed), perhaps someone with more experience can actually clarify that.
In case you're interested, i can upload the zip file that flashes these battery icons, let me know.

Android on HTC Leo (1GHz Snapdragon) ?

I was reading on the internet and it seems that there are a lots of versions of android that are running on Qualcomm`s 1GHz Snapdragon :

Too Photoshop....
I won't rule out the possibility that someone may compile an android that will run in Leo... But given that Kaiser / Diamond port is still an in-progress (as far as I know)... I see it unlikely....
C' mon that is obvious photoshop. Other links are ancient.
I d not see point in paying ms licence for wm, and releasing android on the same device. Don't think it will happen (officialy)
is GIMP..in 1 minute... ..but this was not the idea.....
I am pretty sure that they will release a similar phone with Leo( from the hardware point of view ) but with Android as main SO. Anyway I also think that somebody form XDA will port this for HARET emulator....
It may be easier soon, to get android with HTC sence running on the HTC leo,
android v1.6 supports more screen resolutions, HTC Leo has a capacitive screen, and according to WMPoweruser it appears that it may also have a digital compass, so in theory it does sound like it could be a possibility.
I'm sure there will be some kind of Android port, though I believe that 1.6 or later must be ported, since I don't think the earlier ones supported WVGA displays.
As for Sense running on the Leo, it's probably not going to happen unless HTC releases a WVGA Android device running sense. The biggest problem would have to be the fact that Sense is presently for 320x480 displays, while the Leo is 480x800. So not only would it need to be scaled up, but it would also need to be resized for WVGA from VGA.
As others said, this is a very obvious photoshop.
To get to the point, however, don't hold your breath for a port of Android to the Leo. This is a very common misconception that people need to drop, but simply because it has the same hardware does not suddenly make it simple to port something, especially something like an entire operating system.
Look at the current crop of Android ports: All current HTC phones uses the same hardware, yet a single complete Android port has not been done yet. So far as I know, it's not even close.
If you want Android, then it's best to get an Android phone or wait for a model of the Leo which has Android. To purchase a WinMo device hoping Android gets ported is a lost cause.
It seems that we will have a real 1Ghz Android phone soon...

Customizing

Hi, I got a KF when it came out last year. I wanted to give it to my niece this year for her birthday. I'd like to put something other than the KF OS on it. Maybe CM9? That seems to be popular around here. Also I'd like to customize the screens so that a 4 year old can get to what they need and not get lost in all the extras.
Q1: Can anyone recommend an OS for it? CM7, CM9 or other. I don't need it to have all the gadgets or widgets. Just wifi, video, sound and the google market. Maybe I can strip down something already made?
Q2: I guess I would have to make some sort of custom theme for it. Does anyone know of one for kids? I want to get rid of the carousel and do maybe 3-5 BIG icons on the main screen. No extra screens (swipe to next screen). And a password protected settings icon.
I've done lots of windows and Mac programming before, but no android yet. I've got the SDK and have gone through several beginner tutorials ("Hello World", ect.)
Thanks.
Im using Cm7 currently, i suggest you to use the same! Very cool, smooth and fast.
Cm7 is quite stable, and its been fun customizing it to my liking.

Ok cool. I'll start on CM7 then. Do I need to modify the source code to customize it or can I just manipulate the configuration files and graphics?
MIUI
I'm using MIUI.us, It's still quite buggy, but it promises lot!
If it's for kids, maybe the easier way should be:
Keep stock rom
Root KF. do not register in order to keep out amazon's further upgrades
Install the apps you like
Set another launcher as default and customize it as you like. Hide/unistall what you think the kids don't need
No need to flash roms, IMO
Put the MoDaCo Rom on it. It comes preloaded with the Android Market and uses the regular Kindle Fire OS. I've used it and I think it would be perfect for your niece!
Here's a preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2QtQeOdOZg
He says in the video that the Rom is v6.2.1 (Gr2), but it is actually been updated to v6.2.2 (Gr6).
Here's the Rom: http://android.modaco.com/topic/350682-24-jan-gr6-622-modaco-custom-rom-for-the-kindle-fire/
CM7 is the only one that can do video for now. I recommend you use GO Launcher or the stock one. Don't go too overboard trying to make your own. Actually did one a few years ago for my brother to browse the internet.
Desktop VisualizeR lets you do "stickers" and put them where you please and then point them to an app. Kinda like this:

}
That's a really nice screenshot you have. Is that with the stock KF OS? or did you put something else on? I've downloaded the app, but the icons I get are always small, even when I give it a big image. Do I have to buy their image crop app or another one of theirs to get mine to look as good as yours?

[hero s][ROM]Heroic Hero S V 0.9.2

I am not responsible for any damage to your phone. Flash at your own risk.
Get this phone it's own forum on here.
Hi everyone, this is my first release for developing on any phone.
I know it's nothing special, as it's just a stock rom that I've debloated and tweaked just a bit, but like I said, it's my first attempt at ever doing anything like this.
I would also like to first off thank all the very helpful, and patient people on here, and at the sdx developers forums. All I've learned in this short time (which isn't much really) would have taken so much longer if I had to play around with no guidance.
Working:
Everything as far as I can tell. I've been using all the updates on this as daily drivers on my phone, and have not come into any sort of bugs with it. Again though, that is likely because I didn't really change anything system wise.
What's not working:
Nothing that I've noticed.
No Wimax if you load onto sprint evo design.
What's different:
ICS Roboto font used.
Removed the US Cellular default WP and replaced with the Sense 4.0 default WP.
Added in Green overscroll.
100% battery icons.
New screen transition animations.
Removed all the bloat apps.
Moved some of the apps that could be considered bloat that were kept off the system so they
can be uninstalled. (Amazon app store, etc..)
Added some other useful apps like google voice, etc..
(Added google voice because US cellular doesn't have a VVM app like sprint, but I found setting up VM to forward to google voice works even better for that.)
Updated some of the apps to the newest versions.
Newest version of Google play store.
Rooted, and busybox installed of course.
I'm sure there are a few other minor things I've one, but I can't remember off hand.
I was unable to completely figure out the widget placement and shortcut placement so I decided to go ahead and put this out without messing with it too much. I could move existing ones around just fine, but couldn't get new ones to show up.
Changelog:
V0.9.2
Removed a few widgets that the corresponding apps had already been removed.
Changed the battery icon.
Added in new custom skin.

You might want to check out the forum at sdx developers. There is actually some decent things happening on this phone, they just won't give us a forum here for some reason.
I'm up on the ICS and just can't post to SDX from taptalk. There is something simple that we are missing maybe the ICS kernel Idk.

Been looking practically all day. I thought it would be in the standard places such as in the framework-res.apk but no luck. I even looked in the Launcher.apk. Shouldn't be this hard.
Long press on empty part of screen. Wallpapers, Widgets and Settings will appear at bottom.
I have the default one pulled. Is there a place where this sort of thing gets posted for XDA?
You can upload it in a post here under attachments in a reply. Depends on the zip size. Or use a file sharing site and post a link.

Hi there. Been looking for the stock wallpapers since the day when idol 3 has been announced rootable. Personally I don't own an idol 3 since it still isn't available in my region. Otherwise I'd do a system dump from idol 3 to pc to check those extracted apks files one by one.
According to my previous experiences on extracting stock pictures from various devices. I'd specifically look into apk files with large sizes. Not just the usual launcher.apk systemUI.apk, framework.apk and framework-res.apk, but gallery app, weather app, dailer app, even camera app etc. as well. You never know how many gems might be hidden and left untouched.
From what I understand of the recent trend in terms of customizing and theming by Chinese android manufactures (Alcatel mobile is a branch of Chinese brand TCL) is they tend to incorporate a second modular Launcher2.apk and framework2.apk alongside the original launcher.apk and framework.apk which contain all the themed 3rd party icons and wallpapers. Thus you can't find the stock wallpapers in the usual way.
Edit: There are chances wall pics are separately placed in archives such as /media as individual add-ons. For instance I own a TCL M2M which runs a modded ColorOS 2.1 firmware ported from OPPO R7t. Under root/system/res path, there are 3 1080p photos for LED testing. They don't show up in the gallery, nonetheless are still worth looking at.

Adding support for official Keyboard Cover in ONE UI ROMs

[Same thread in S8 Q&A forum]
I asked this in the specific Hades android 10 ROM thread, but mabe this solution works in any One UI ROM.
AFAIK the steps to find a solution would be:
1. Figure out the processes involved in making the keyboard cover work.
2. Extracting them from a (or almost) stock ROM.
3. Flashing on top of the ROM in TWRP
4. If it doesn't boot up or is unstable, try editing the ROM myself replacing the new apps with the old ones.
5. Flash again
If it works, then perfect
If not, find a workaround with some external apps.
7.Make the keyboard stay always on screen.
8. Set up a keyboard that exactly matches the case. Maybe the native samsung keyboard from Pie itself works with this.
9. Lock the screen rotation.
10. Have a quick toggle to add and remove the keyboard cover settings and link it to the bixby button for convenience.
I have absolutely no idea about ROM development, so any help would be most helpful. thanks!

Hello @corsicanu and congrats on the great ROM.
I'm asking you and anyone who has some experience in android ROM developement if it could be possible with a bit of tinkering to add support for the keyboard cover.
I know there's some remnants of code of it in your ROM cos in first boot, in the setup wizard it was attatched on the back side and a message popped up telling me I could not use it while setting the phone up (as it said on first boot on Pie).
AFAIK, there would be several processes involved in supporting this keyboard cover, from the Samsung keyboard app itself to some other system processes. Probably some background log registers which processes start runnig in a stock Samsung ROM and from then i'd have to export them to Android 10.
I don't know how hard is to grab them from a pie ROM, replace the Android 10 parts and hope it all work together while fashing in TWRP, or just have both apps in the same ROM and disable the newer ones and start tinkering.
Is there some signature or something required while flashing it?
If you could guide me to some material to start figuring this out, It'd be most helpful. Thanks!

Hi!
How's it going trying out to make the case work?
I recently found this case on Amazon for $10 and had to get it although I don't own a S8+ myself. Next task will be to buy a not too expensive phone and start to experiment. I have no knowledge either of ROM development but will try out different ideas on how to make the case work. Would be nice to have it still working on an recently updated phone.
