[Q] [help] HTC One X wont boot - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ok guys im pretty new here and im not sure weather this is the right spot to post this.
Anyway, i think i messed up. after rooting my phone successfully and proceeded to install cyanogenmod on it. how ever i saw a guide that said nothing about installing a backup program like clockwork mod.
So now i have a phone that when turned on will only go to the htc boot screen and stay there. or when i press the volume and power button it will go to the HBOOT? (white screen with colored writing that) screen.
What do i do??

Install twrp 2.6 for the evita...
Fastboot flash recovery "filename.img" then fastboot erase cache
Then reboot into bootloader and select recovery.
Now you can flash a rom
Don't flash anything other than what you find in this forum or you will brick your phone. If unsure about what your flashing post the complete filename and someone here can verify it's for your phone.

yeah that's correct. i should have watched more guides my bad. Anyway can someone link me a download/ guide link to this TWRP thing

There isn't really a guide, you can just download it here. Put it in your fastboot folder and issue the following commands:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(Whatever the exact recovery filename is)
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can select recovery from your phone screen.
It seems to me that you're in way over your head with this stuff though. You need to do a lot more reading before you really do anything. Check out this guide. Everything you really need is listed there.

Did you flash the Rom first or did you even flash a rom
can We assume you have a recovery? Did you make a back up? Hold the power + volume down. From there go into recovery. See if you can flash ur ROM. If says successful, good to go. If not, flash you backup and start over. Or even go back to bootloader & push image again.

Hold power and vol down.. wait for buttons to flash, and shut off but continue holding. After it black for a sec or two, release power but hold vol down for approximately 5 seconds until you see the white hboot screen with skatin droids. From there enter fastboot

k got into fastboot now what? sorry im new to this...can you say all the steps...im using rebelmod 3.6.6-evita will this work? so i take the boot img out of it?
1. On your computer, extract Rom. Find the boot.img and move it to where you have SDK, adb and fastboot.
2. Rezip the Rom, but delete the boot.img from it first.
3. Enter fastboot from the hboot screen. (White screen with skating droids) fire up command promt where you put the boot.img. enter this command ----> fastboot flash boot boot.img
4. Enter recovery, flash rebelmod. If it's successful, flash gapps.
5. Profit.
If you manage to get to the colorful x boot ani, you should be golden. Report back bro

If your phone still boots up but stops, you should be okay. Just find a ROM for the HOXL and reflash (flashing the kernel through fastboot), and you should be okay.
And on Thursday, be thankful you didn't flash something else like IceColdJelly, or you would have hard-bricked.

I'm missing the fastboot, whats this about?
And Plus, I cant download and add it to my phone since I cant get into it to turn it into a drive
Until you downgrade your hboot you have to manually flash the kernel for each Rom... This is done through fastboot... In bootloader mode you'll see something called fastboot ...go into that now on your comp make sure you fastboot .exe file and others are in same and open up command prompt and type " fastboot flash boot.IMG or whatever you named the boot IMG you have to extract it from the Rom....others can give you more detail on it

Do you have the HTC drivers on your computer? You can't do anything until you do because your computer won't recognize it.
If you can get into bootloader, you're not bricked. It's just a matter of getting the right rom back on there.

Well, I've got TWRP back and I went back and installed Phandroid, Now I'm going to figure out this fast boot ****, So I can get past the boot loop so I atleast have a phone
hold power+volume down till the lights stop blinking, then releasing power button while still holding volume down. That should get you to boot loader no matter what state its in.. Once you hit the white screen with skating droids, make sure it says "fast boot USB".
If you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer, you need to take the boot.img out of this rom, and drop it into your adb folder.
Right click on your adb folder, choose "open command prompt here"
Type fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once successful, immediately choose recovery in boot loader. Proceed to install rom zip and respective gapps if necessary

[Q] Tried to Root HTC ONE X stuck at 'This build is for development purposes only'

Disclaimer: I am a noob!:cyclops: Wont understand jargon.
I tried rooting my HTC device and went through all the instructions as given by an youtube video. 'HTC One X - Root (in-depth)' by 'itvraag'
(I understand no links allowed till 10 posts but this might be an emergency! )
I am stuck at the Recovery section and am unable to get beyond the Recovery mode (screen).
The video says the next step is installing from the .zip file which I have downloaded onto my sd card.
I have got a bootloader screen which says 'Tampered' at the top. So, I guess, its not yet rooted?
I would appreciate solutions.
Thank you!:highfive:
p.s. The phone restarts in the normal At&T mode when done so and hence, its working as in stock.

This is the One S thread. Anyways, at bootloader, where it says tampered, it should also say unlocked. There is also recovery as an option in the menu. Have you flashed a custom recovery yet? If so, select recovery and use power button to select it and boot into your custom recovery. If not, select fastboot, and flash a custom recovery.

[Q] Fresh Start

Hi all, I just wanted to start by saying that xda is the shizz and has helped me through thick n thin. Anywho, I have a custom Rom and am trying to go to a different Rom. ViperX to be specific. I've tried before, but with little success. Extracted boot.img, fastboot flash boot boot.img in the command, put the Rom on my sd and installed via TWRP. Problem is, is that it never boots, only the HTC boot screen with the red writing. Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do? I'm still S-on, but from what I understand, that doesn't matter if you fastboot the boot.img via command prompt. I also have Hboot 1.14.
Thanks.

Because you are S-ON with hboot 1.14 you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS need to fastboot flash boot boot.img from the rom you are flashing.
That being said, Sounds like you are on TWRP 2.4.x please confirm.
If so, fastboot flash twrp 2.3.x.x
then fastboot erase cache
then wipe cache, dalvik, system, factory reset
Install rom and fastboot flash boot boot.img
Keep me posted.

Yes. It would hurt anyone with a one xl as 2.4 does not wipe our device properly. I tested 2.4.4 myself.

ok, well I found another problem you might be able to help me with, but I'll shoot it to you anyway. I just found out my phone was originally a One X when I got it from the ATT store. Now apparently after I flashed the Rom I got (odex-JB-Sense4+.zip), It's saying my phone is an XL. Seems to me I have a whole new set of issues. Did I flash the wrong Rom? I though I did enough research to find a compatible Rom. How do I find out for sure what's going on with my phone and how to fix it properly?

No problem you have the correct ROM, if you had flashed wrong one it would have not worked correctly. Depending on the ROM sometimes it will show XL instead of X.
One xl is the proper model name, code named Evita, not to be confused with the real HTC One X international quad core version.
So in other words, nothing is wrong. This is normal. If you flashed the wrong rom you would know as you would now have a paperweight
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
ok cool, I was kinda confused there for a sec lol. Ok, now for the TWRP. I'm assuming you were referring to 2.3.0.0? just because there is a 2.3.0.0, 2.3.1.0, 2.3.3.0, and a 2.3.3.1. I just want to make sure I have the correct one for Hboot 1.14
Doesn't matter which one. I use 2.3.3.1 myself.

Because you are S-ON with hboot 1.14 you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS need to fastboot flash boot boot.img from the rom you are flashing.

Except for ViperXL (and old builds of CleanROM, which may also happen with future builds if/when scrosler gets AROMA back in there) which is intended to flash the boot.img in AROMA.
Although, it doesn't always work for some folks, so they have had to flash boot.img manually. So yes, if at all in doubt (and you have a boot loop) flash boot.img manually.

[Q] Can't get into recovery

Hey guys. For some odd reason I'm having issues with my AT&T HOX. I was running the Sense 5 rom and everything was running great. I was going to flash a battery % mod so, I held the power button down to get to the reboot menu to go into recovery. Well I accidently tapped the power off button instead of reboot. Crap! No problem, I thought. When I powered the phone back up again, the phone just sat on the HTC Quiet Brilliantly screen and wouldn't go any further. So, I held down the power button to force it to shut down, held the volume down key to go to the bootloader and then into TWRP. I couldn't get into TWRP. The phone would get to the TWRP splash screen and then reboot. But then it wouldn't even go back into android. It would just stay at the HTC screen. The only way I could get it into android was to RUU the phone. I flashed TWRP 2.3.3.0 on it via adb but now I still can't get into TWRP. The phone goes into a boot loop on the TWRP splash screen. I tried to do a fastboot wipe cache but that didn't help at all. Any suggestions?
You flashed recovery with adb..? You need to flash it with fastboot. Always check the md5 of your files to make sure they're good

Haha, sorry, I meant fastboot. I flashed it with fastboot. When it didn't work the first time. I re-downloaded twrp and flashed it again. Same results.

Did you run the RUU? Which one? Running a RUU will restore stock recovery.
Also, the command is fastboot erase cache. Is that what you did?
Yes, I ran the AT&T 3.18 ruu. Don't worry I have s-off. The phone booted up fine after I ran the AT&T ruu. I then wanted to flash TWRP so I could install a different rom. I went to the bootloader and flashed TWRP 2.3.3.0. I flashed it with the OneX toolkit. I also did a fastboot erase cache when it didn't want to boot into TWRP. When I try to get into TWRP, it gets to the splash screen of TWRP, then the screen flashes for a second and it won't go any further. It keeps doing that until I force the phone to shut down. I am using the phone now but on 3.18 and I can't root it. I am stock. EWW!

I'm not a big fan of toolkits. They let you skip over learning things you really need to know.
Try downloading the twrp image, check the md5 to be sure it downloaded correctly, and flash in fastboot manually.
It's possible something isn't working right with the toolkit.

Just a few minutes ago, I re-downloaded TWRP again and flashed it with fastboot flash recovery. It said it was successful but, it is still doing the same thing. TWRP acts like it wants to boot but it won't. It gets to the splash screen and then it will just blink on and off, on and off until I force the phone to shut off.
Dang I've never seen anyone have that problem so far... That's weird.. You're doing everything correct and you sound knowledgeable.... Have you tried different twrp versions? Maybe try goo manager...
And I'm not questioning your intelligence and mean no disrespect, but are you 100% its the Evita version of twrp?

Thanks man, haha, yeah I am 1000% sure it is an evita recovery. I thought about trying CWM just to see if the situation changes. Before I do that, I may try goo manager.
Yay!! I was able to flash CWM, get into it and flash SuperSU. I don't really care for CWM but at least i got SOMETHING to work. I may try TWRP again just to see if it will work.

Now that recovery is working again, you should be able to switch using goo manager.

I tried re-downloading from a different source and flashing TWRP 2.3.3.1 again....Fail. It does the same thing. Flashed CWM again, works like a charm. What the heck is going on??

I would try Goo Manager, then give up if it doesn't work. CWM is okay for this phone now.
