Hey guys. For some odd reason I'm having issues with my AT&T HOX. I was running the Sense 5 rom and everything was running great. I was going to flash a battery % mod so, I held the power button down to get to the reboot menu to go into recovery. Well I accidently tapped the power off button instead of reboot. Crap! No problem, I thought. When I powered the phone back up again, the phone just sat on the HTC Quiet Brilliantly screen and wouldn't go any further. So, I held down the power button to force it to shut down, held the volume down key to go to the bootloader and then into TWRP. I couldn't get into TWRP. The phone would get to the TWRP splash screen and then reboot. But then it wouldn't even go back into android. It would just stay at the HTC screen. The only way I could get it into android was to RUU the phone. I flashed TWRP 2.3.3.0 on it via adb but now I still can't get into TWRP. The phone goes into a boot loop on the TWRP splash screen. I tried to do a fastboot wipe cache but that didn't help at all. Any suggestions?
You flashed recovery with adb..? You need to flash it with fastboot. Always check the md5 of your files to make sure they're good

Haha, sorry, I meant fastboot. I flashed it with fastboot. When it didn't work the first time. I re-downloaded twrp and flashed it again. Same results.

Did you run the RUU? Which one? Running a RUU will restore stock recovery.
Also, the command is fastboot erase cache. Is that what you did?
Yes, I ran the AT&T 3.18 ruu. Don't worry I have s-off. The phone booted up fine after I ran the AT&T ruu. I then wanted to flash TWRP so I could install a different rom. I went to the bootloader and flashed TWRP 2.3.3.0. I flashed it with the OneX toolkit. I also did a fastboot erase cache when it didn't want to boot into TWRP. When I try to get into TWRP, it gets to the splash screen of TWRP, then the screen flashes for a second and it won't go any further. It keeps doing that until I force the phone to shut down. I am using the phone now but on 3.18 and I can't root it. I am stock. EWW!

I'm not a big fan of toolkits. They let you skip over learning things you really need to know.
Try downloading the twrp image, check the md5 to be sure it downloaded correctly, and flash in fastboot manually.
It's possible something isn't working right with the toolkit.

Just a few minutes ago, I re-downloaded TWRP again and flashed it with fastboot flash recovery. It said it was successful but, it is still doing the same thing. TWRP acts like it wants to boot but it won't. It gets to the splash screen and then it will just blink on and off, on and off until I force the phone to shut off.
Dang I've never seen anyone have that problem so far... That's weird.. You're doing everything correct and you sound knowledgeable.... Have you tried different twrp versions? Maybe try goo manager...
And I'm not questioning your intelligence and mean no disrespect, but are you 100% its the Evita version of twrp?

Thanks man, haha, yeah I am 1000% sure it is an evita recovery. I thought about trying CWM just to see if the situation changes. Before I do that, I may try goo manager.
Yay!! I was able to flash CWM, get into it and flash SuperSU. I don't really care for CWM but at least i got SOMETHING to work. I may try TWRP again just to see if it will work.

The only way I've had any success getting into Recovery with CWM is to go into Rom Manager and boot into recovery from there.

I had exactly the same problem, the only thing that ended up working for me was installing Goomanager and doing it from there.
Menu > Install OpenRecoveryScript. This will install TWRP, and worked a treat for me.
I've noticed that when you first do the fastboot flash recovery that when you adb reboot into recovery, or even manually boot into recovery, it won't boot into it the first time. It will after you try again though. This has happened on 3 One X's so I know it's not a single phone specific thing.
Use TWRP, but don't be lazy and do it from the app, it didn't work for me, and just doesn't feel as reliable as my trusty adb commands. If you need help on what commands, PM me. Only three I used, without a hitch.
I used goomanager to install TWRP and it worked just fine.

Flashing a recovery from fastboot is not being lazy. There's actually more work involved than installing from an app. I think you have it the other way around.

Are both recoveries able to install the same roms? or are some roms only able to be installed through CWM or TWRP?
i'm assuming they both install the same way, so all roms should work regardless. It's just that rom threads say "install using clockwork", but i guess that's just a common phrase now..

yeah install using clockwork is common language for use recovery, since cwm is the more well known one.
Just as an opinion, TWRP looks better to me, because its not all just clicks and such, TWRP you slide to confirm, you can flash multiple .zips one after the other (Useful for AOSP roms where you need GAPPS, and if you change the kernel like I do) etc.
Also, as stated before, its an official recovery on our devices, so we get full support should bugs arise.

can We assume you have a recovery? Did you make a back up? Hold the power + volume down. From there go into recovery. See if you can flash ur ROM. If says successful, good to go. If not, flash you backup and start over. Or even go back to bootloader & push image again.

Hold power and vol down.. wait for buttons to flash, and shut off but continue holding. After it black for a sec or two, release power but hold vol down for approximately 5 seconds until you see the white hboot screen with skatin droids. From there enter fastboot

k got into fastboot now what? sorry im new to this...can you say all the steps...im using rebelmod 3.6.6-evita will this work? so i take the boot img out of it?
1. On your computer, extract Rom. Find the boot.img and move it to where you have SDK, adb and fastboot.
2. Rezip the Rom, but delete the boot.img from it first.
3. Enter fastboot from the hboot screen. (White screen with skating droids) fire up command promt where you put the boot.img. enter this command ----> fastboot flash boot boot.img
4. Enter recovery, flash rebelmod. If it's successful, flash gapps.
5. Profit.
If you manage to get to the colorful x boot ani, you should be golden. Report back bro

Htc One S bricked
Hi im relatively new at rooting and am currently experiencing issues with a bricked device.
i have two htc one s devices
my personal one is running cm10 ville with clockwork touch recovery and is working perfectly
however the second one i was using the same exact files.
this one is bricked
its in a constant bootloop.
i can get back to my recovery just fine and get to the fastboot in the phone fine
i cleared my cache
wiped my data and wiped the dalvik cache all perfectly fine when i try to flash the cm10 official rom back on it cannot mount the sd card
i would try to install a different recovery and try again maybe using viper one s
but i cannot get the phone to power on
it doesnt showup on the computer when it is plugged in while in fastboot
when i try the cmd fastboot flash recovery it says waiting for device
any advice. this is not my own phone so i need it repaired pretty quickly.
any helpful information would be much appreciated.

make a nandroid and sdcard bu NOW and put them on pc,
obviously leave a copy of nandroid on phone also
makes it a lot easier if you get in trouble again

Flash it, erase cache & and Dalvik...Blah blah blah. Flash boot.img in fastboot, and there you go.
Everybody, please remember this and there won't be noob q&a anymore...

Are you on HBOOT 1.14? Did you flash the boot.img in fastboot?
Do you have a backup? You can get back to recovery by holding volume down and pushing the power button for ~15 seconds. When the capacitive buttons stop flashing, release the power button but keep holding volume down. That should get you to the bootloader screen. You can choose recovery or fastboot there.

Where did you perform the factory reset? All resetting needs to be done inside twrp.
If that is all truly gone, you need to try and mount the phone as storage when you plug into your pc. From there, reload the Rom you wanted. Go back into twrp and wipe all cache. Then do a system wipe. Finally do a factory reset INSIDE twrp.
Now go to Install in twrp.
Select your rom zip.
Swipe to flash.
Follow Aroma Installer and select your preferences.
Be patient and let it do the install as it will take a little while.
Let it finish and follow steps to reboot.
Once rebooted you need to again be patient as the first boot will take a while.
Enjoy!!

Follow Aroma Installer and select your preferences.

also thankkyou as i was able to get a quick rom from your sources and i appreciate all the help given!
Of the many things I've learned from fellow xda members, research the heck out of things, ask questions before jumping in head first and if that doesn't work-stay calm and come back here.
Everyone here is so knowledgeable, eager to teach and filled with ideas. We are all glad you got your ROM up and running.

I'm not sure what I did, but my phone is stuck in a constant reboot. my bootloader is unlocked, but I am not root or s-off. Is there a way I can restore to factory settings and start again?

what were you doing? did you install an app or something??
if you really want to factory reset there's an option under settings>backup & reset
Were you trying to do something when you got stuck? Flashing a ROM or mod? Custom recovery installed?
Not nearly enough info for us to properly help.

I tried flashing a custom recovery, and I couldn't get that to work. Then I just tried flashing a ROM, and that's when I got stuck in a boot loop. I can boot to bootloader, however

That doesn't make any sense. How are you trying to flash a ROM, if you don't have a custom recovery installed?
Try going into fast boot and flash twrp. After that flash super user. Then you will be able to flash a ROM but you will have to flash boot image manually.

fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
I tried flashing twrp, and after I rebooted it showed the splash screen, and then it restarted, and is looping again
Twrp is not a ROM. It is a recovery. You still need super user and a ROM.

Yes. But, it shows the twrp splash screen then reboots, and loops
Bad download. Try checking sum or finding twrp 2.3.3.1 it is better suited for our phones.

I've been hit with this same bug on my phone. Try booting into the Rom again and when it boot loops go back to bootloader again and select recovery. It should boot into recovery then.

I had this at one point, I was undervolted to 800mV and was overclockin to 1944MHz. Sh** was crazy. I was freakin out lol. Don't ever try that without a "faster" cpu. Stuff gets really unstable even with a faster CPU.
