Hey guys, I searched for this issue but couldn't find it anywhere. I use to be able to long press on any text in any application and it would highlight the text, then I could move the bars to select more or less text as I needed. Once I had the text I wanted selected I could quick press on it or long press and copy the text. Then I could long press in another area and paste it.
Before I had rooted and installed one of the gingerbread OS, not sure which one. Everything worked great on that ROM build, and I loved it. Recently I decided to wipe my phone, and once again followed the Galaxy Blaze Bible post to re-root and install CWM, followed by this freaking great CM10 stable ROM. However, I can't select text in a game I'm using, when I could before by long pressing.
I know this sounds like a minor inconvenience, and it is, but I sure would like that functionality back if possible. I've tried selecting text in other apps and it does it perfectly and I can paste too.
I'm noticing that if the text isn't in a "text box" it won't copy, and it did before.
I also installed Gapps 4.2. I got the stable CM 10 ROM from the Cyanogenmod website 2 days ago (cyanogenmod dot org). Hope this info helps.
Hopefully, someone has a fix or a work around? Maybe there is another app I can install or if the developers of CM 10 stable have the time to look into this issue and fix it, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for any help you may have.
CM 10 Stable - Keyboard issue
Oh, I almost forgot. Before when I use to type in text, if the keyboard took up too much space the text field would rise above the keyboard so I could see what I was typing. Now in the CM 10 stable ROM, the keyboard covers up my text fields and I can't see what I'm typing or erasing. I've also tried installing the go keyboard and still have the same issue.
Again, if anyone has a work around or an idea on an app that will take care of this issue, that would be great. Or if the devs have time to look into that would be awesome too.
Thanks guys / gals

For the nightly ROM do I have to backup and completely wipe the phone again, or can I just update the stable ROM?
Also, should I just go with the newest CM 10, or should I go for the 10.1 ROM?
Thanks so much!
Update
Ok, I found the update function in my phones settings so I got the latest CM 10 nightly ROM. However, same issue with not being able to select / highlight text in non-text boxes. The keyboard is still blocking my view of what I'm typing as well?
Perhaps there is an app from t-mobile that took care of this issue before? I forgot to mention that t-mobile is my carrier, so perhaps they had some functionality that this build doesn't have?
If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!

As far as the copying of text in apps goes, different apps behave differently between different Android versions. 4.1.2 is very different from 2.3.7.
As for your keyboard issues, that's just CM. My phone behaves the same way. Sometimes, the text field simply doesn't gain focus when it's selected. The workaround: when you select a text box and the keyboard goes over it and hides it, press your back button to hide the keyboard then select the text box again.
I seem to remember this happening more frequently with early versions of CM10 for our device and it continuing until i started fresh. If i were you, i would download the latest nightly and erase you phone completely with Black Hole and FSC aka Gremlin Remover, then reflash cm10.

Release / Update News for 4.14.2012
For this update I've resynced for new commits from the AOKP repo. The new build doesn't seem to crash often like the first build. However AOKP doesn't seem to like live wallpapers. I've just noticed that if you select a live wallpaper it will freeze after a while then you try to change the wallpaper to anything else the background of the launcher will remain black. This can be fixed by restarting the phone. Or it could be something that needs more testing.
I've added in the official boot animation but it doesn't seem to fit the screen perfectly. There was a similar issue with the first MIUI build. I'm still testing to see how well GPS actually works.
So this update seems to be really fast. It doesn't seem to crash or slow down like the first build.
-See how different wallpapers behave.
-Check ROM Control options (I saw some issues with the Navigation Bar settings. I think its a Team Kang issue.)
-Stay clear of the Start-up Scripts options. It doesn't work for now.
Other than that the ROM should be much more stable and faster than the previous release. Try and give me as much feedback as possible.
Thanks
I only tried it out for a few minutes. There was no boot loop, and it seemed to run smoothly. Nice work.
Can someone put up screen shots and working and non working please?

Once I get to a desktop I'll upload some screenshots. Right now everything moves relatively smoothly but some bugs do exist. For example, spell check is not working right now and most words are considered mispelt. Also, the Play Store did not sync correctly and I had to download all apps manually rather than the automatic sync. Some usability bugs such as freezing screens do occur, but not enough to be a major nuisance. The special AOKP settings work fine. If you prefer the software buttons of the Galaxy Nexus they will work, although the action overflow button does not seem to show up in the bar and the physical menu button must be used. Backlighting on the keys works while the softkeys are enabled as well. I am yet to encounter any of the screen blowups Kemikal referred to in the OP. Benchmarks (for you benchmark nerds) will arrive with the screenshots.
Edit 1:Never mind about the later comments. Screenshots are attached.
Edit 2: Found the screen blowup in the battery portion of the settings. Music and mic are working.
Edit 3: Once the ROM seems to run for a couple hours without a boot or anything the system bogs down and system ui crashes occur at a relatively high frequency. Home screen redraws are more prevalent than Jocala's CM9 ROM.

I've noticed there is an issue with like a sleep of death where the screen stop working randomly except you can see what's on the screen during the CRT animation.
Gerrit style bug reporting. One person to report something another to review and confirm the issue. I didn't get much of a chance to test everything before I released it.
This is in Alpha stage so expect some bugs out of it. This is built from the same source as CM9 so in theory there should have been any other than a borked camera. Yet something must have messed up during the compile process and minor parts are broken. The touch drivers were half baked. I'm assuming from your reports that somethings also wrong with the dictionary files.
Some things haven't compiled properly and they cause issues.

Camera is bad from CM9 so its the same source so its broken here too. New thread so I haven't completed reviewing the bug list.
Also, The issue with your apps not auto-redownloading from the market is something I've seen on many different ROMs on many different devices. I have no idea what causes it. I believe its more of a universal issue for Google to address.
hmm this seems nice ill try it out
Thanks for working so hard for us in making this ROM. I think that if you can get everything working on this one, I might stray away from cm9. Big thank you to jocala as well.
Thus far, the main things that I have noticed issues with are as follows:
No notification for wifi networks,
Start up tweaks do not remain enabled,
Dictionary believes that no words except for a select few simple ones actually exist.
Automatic time zone thinks I am in the middle of the Pacific ocean instead of in Atlanta, GA.
There are some other assorted small things, but I'm more interested in helping you test out the major issues.
I have not yet tested the GPS. Work and sleep make spending the amount of time I want to on these things impossible. I hope that this info is helpful to you. And thanks again.

Yeah same here. First lock was set by GPS accurate to 20 meters. Second lock in different location was set by Network Triangulation, accurate to 40 meters. Maybe its just because I'm indoors. I'm expecting to release an update on Saturday. No word yet on what might be improved or fixed.

I had this same problem when flashing to a rom, and then going back to stock. I found this solution:
1) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>google services framework>clear data also go to >all>market>clear cache and force close finally to all>market>clear cache and clear data then Reboot phone
2) Open and sign out of GTalk, then re-open and sign in.
3) Open Market and accept agreement. Let it load your apps. Close Market.
4) Go to market.android.com and sign in. Go to My Market Account>Settings tab>Edit>Nickname your phone and click Update.
5) try Installing application from market.android.com

very good, great options in rom control.
i did have a glitch, and since you asked.....
whilst connected to wifi, and using opera mobile, and, big buttons keyboard,
i attempted to type in the embedded google search box.
this proceeded to cause opera to freeze.
whether opera,or,big buttons was the cause i can't say,but the rom did not seem to like this combo.
LOL I never thought my moms phone would be getting ICS I'll flash it on her phone in a bit!
I just flashed to this rom to try it out, runs great and has very cool controls. But I still prefer CM9 AOKP feels like a overly customizable launcher but still nice!
I just got the phone 2 days ago and have been browsing around for answers and come up with very little....
First off, if I were to do the root, unlock bootloader, etc., am I still only limited to ROMs specificially for the AT&T phone or can I use ARHD for example from the other forum?
Second, is there any way to use the real ICS keyboard instead of HTC's or one off the market? I had a galaxy nexus and really like that one. I am currently using a copy from a while ago from the market and its not as good.
Third, I like the revamped messaging app, but doesn't have the emojin support. Was wondering if there was anything on the market besides GOSMS or Handcent, etc. that could allow that with the stock messaging app.
Appreciate your time and thanks in advance

I also came from a gnex, and love the stock ICS keyboard. The easiest way to safely get it for free is to download one of the latest CM9 nightlies from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=nightly
Then open the zip, go to system/app, and copy LatinIME.apk out. Put it on your one x and install it. You'll then have to go into settings->language/keyboard, and enable the keyboard.
After that, go to any text field on your phone (like your browser's URL bar), make the HTC keyboard pop up, then drag down your notification bar and you'll see the switch keyboard notification.
No root required, nice and safe.
That is an awesome trick lol...Do you have any other apk suggestions I can use from the CM build?
It works perfectly! Thanks again

I haven't felt the need for anything else from my gnex, so I didn't attempt to use any other apks. I know a few people were requesting the stock sms and dialer, but you really need to be careful pulling system/app apks out, since there could be dependencies.

Hey,
I've still got my forum training wheels on, and so I'll just put this Q here (rather than the directly related thread).
I've seen a few people ask this, but haven't yet found a conclusive answer.
I use my TF with this ROM and think it's great, not had any issues to speak of. However, I did love the HC/ICS (4.1) screen layout, where the notifications were in the bottom right along with the clock etc. There was no status bar at the top and Nav buttons were in the lower left. My question is... Is it possible to get this back, whilst still using the 4.2 ROM?
Hopefully somebody knows the answer....
I understand that this would require 4.1 launcher to be ported to 4.2, but I could be wrong.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I have that tablet running that ROM, but I've gotten used to 4.2 and haven't looked for a way to change it.
You should ask this in the TF101 forums.
I'm not sure how much a launcher could really do, but I'd Google "get back tablet layout in 4.2" or something to start checking it out on my own.
I'm not sure this is that easy. I use Apex launcher on that tablet and ROM and the layout doesn't change. I'm thinking that's a deeper layer than a launcher works with. I think you'd need a ROM with that baked in.

Hi Pennycake,
Thanks for the reply!
I've done lots of forum and Google hunting, but had little success...!
I've no grumbles using the phablet style layout. I just think that it was neater having everything on the navbar (tablet style).
I'll keep on looking and maybe stumble over something.
Cheers
Impossible...!?
So this is looking like it's not really possible without work being done to the SystemUI.
Withing the Eos Control Centre (This comes as part of the TeamEOS 4 ROM for TF101), there is a tablet option, but this leaves the status bar at the top.
I'll keep digging, but i won't hold my breath!!
Case closed...
Sweeeetttt...!!!
News just in...
timduru said:
Well yeah, we still have the code for tabletUI in EOS4 too.
Just that it has not been updated at all and is completely out of sync with all the EOS specific modifications, so most likely will crash.
But I might have a look at either bringing TabletUI back or implementing a new navbar from scratch to go with the phabletui.
That way we get rid of the navbar lag.
I'm also hopping that having to dig through the code even more with cornerstone, I could spot something.
But I've been thinking more and more about rewriting part of the window manager.
The original google code is Sh*t, and the more I look at it the more I come to the conclusion that PhabletUI is not made to work correctly on big screen / tablets.
On top of that code there's the EOS customizations which just make things more complex.
With cornerstone it's adding another spaghetti layer on top of the google spaghetti pile.
So yeah *headache*.
But yep I would say that the way PA has done it and rewriting part of the window manager & policy is the good approach.
Maybe I'll just resume work on Phubuntu instead too, and make a real multiboot that doesn't require flashing all the time.
We might benefit more from that, and it will have multiwindow support
Ahh so many things and so little time ;P

Problems with nightly ROM 111
I have a TF101 and finally decided to root and install the JB ROM. I started with EOS JDQ39 Nightly 108 and gapps_4.2.2_TF101_20130323b. This worked fine but when I updated to the nightly 111 I noticed that I Google play was not working. I would click on the app and it would start to load but disappear. It appears that I am not logged in anymore because gmail does not work either. I have tried to delete data from the gmail app and google play store from settings but the did not work. I have tried installing gapps again. Does not work. I tried another gapps, gapps-jb-20130301-signed and that just freezes my tablet on the EeePad screen.
Any ideas on how to get signed in on the tablet without a factory reset?
Complete newbie here. After a lot of reading how-to's here and other sites, I managed to migrate from the stock to CM10.1 (JB 4.2).
Like almost everything except the rough 'screen scrolling stutter' for example in facebook, browser etc. The stock ROM on most devices (for example my other LG escape with android 4.0.4) seem to be buttery smooth. Is there a setting (would that be some kind of h/w acceleration?) or something to make it smooth?
Though I love the new ROM, this is almost becoming a deal breaker and makes me want to go back to the stock rom.
Thanks for any help.
ps: Sometimes, it is so bad that when I flick the screen up, it would try to go up and then rebound downwards...
What version of cm 10.1 are you on? You might try the latest nightly. If your browser is chrome, it seems to be an issue with chrome, others have reported that problem. I'm on the 7/25 nightly and it's running well. I don't use chrome though.

Try fixing permissions and then wipe dalvik/cache. if that don't work, redownload the newest nightly, CHECK MD5, reinstall
I flashed the stock 4.1 ROM back. It was not all that different from a scrolling smoothness perspective. So it seems that the other phone (LG escape) is doing a better job either by s/w (most likely) or h/w.
Given that, I moved away from the stock again, this time to slimbean, and I like it better than the cyanogenmod.
Thanks.

I would say more tasteful/minimalistic customization options. As a very small example choosing to display the battery percentage does not unnecessarily show a battery icon in addition, and also it was customizable to be of different colors while charging/not charging...
More importantly, the notification light via the hardware keys worked on slim bean and not with the cyanogen. This was nice since the skyrocket does not have a dedicated notification light.
Other differences I saw include:
1) The HDR option in the camera is missing in the slimbean, but that is understandable probably since there is no stock HDR option on the camera, and the HDR option that the cyanogenmod came with did not account for even tiny handshake and was unusable.
2) Asking to upgrade to the prime launcher (for $4) was a bit of a bummer with the slimbean. Only the upgrade allows to hide apps etc.
3) On slimbean, press and hold a app icon gives you a small menu to edit/remove/uninstall which is nice.
4) One slightly annoying thing on the slimbean however is the wake up delay after the screen turns off. I have a thread on that here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383338
5) On slimbean, I also like being able to turn off the screen by long pressing the menu button (configurable) instead of reaching for the power button.
6) The APN settings on cyanogen worked right out of the box, whereas on the slimbean I had to add a new APN and choose that to get data connection.

As to 1-HDR isn't really possible with the Skyrocket's hardware due to its slow shutter speed.
As to 2-It would be extremely unethical, and probably illegal (not a lawyer, so I can't say for certain) for any developer to distribute the paid version of an app in a release without compensating said app developer for the distribution.
As to 3-Install Nova on CM and you get that option back.
Hello Friends:
After using the Galaxy S3 for 6 months or so I decided I couldn't stand not having a keyboard anymore and picked up a Relay from Amazon. It came with Jelly Bean preloaded out of the Box. I've already rooted it thanks to the fine people on this forum and though it's noticeably slower than my S3, I smile every time I get to use a keyboard again. (battery life seems pretty amazing too and I'm getting almost as much life as the genuine extended battery 3000mAh I bought for the S3)
However I'm having an issue with the keyboard. For most apps, like XDA, Messaging, Google Search Bar, etc.. the keyboard works fine. However if I am on the Internet, say for example the google home page and use the search bar on the actual page, I have to hold the alt key in to access the secondary characters instead of just pressing it once like you do normally. This becomes annoying when I want to us the @ symbol and have to hold the alt in on the left side and cross my right hand all the way to the left side of the keyboard to get that symbol. I also noticed this in the Netflix app so far.
After some searching, it appears that some Relay users experienced this problem post Jelly Bean update but my phone came with Jelly Bean preloaded so I don't have an ICS backup to go to.
Does anyone have a work around? (I can't use CM-10, if that is a solution because I depend on wifi calling all day at work)
Does anyone have the Stock ICS ROM? If that's a solution, I'll take it.
I also considered perhaps remapping the voice search key on the right side to have a second Alt key on that side of the keyboard, but I'd like to do that as a last resort.
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
EDIT: Sorry I didn't realize I put this in General instead of Q&A. Please feel free to move to the correct section.
RE: Alt key issue
Don't worry, CM10 is not the solution. Stock browser does same thing in it.
Check here for possible stock ROM, or I have restored my phone to ICS using Kies, not sure if that always works for newer versions of phone or not though.
What might be simpler though is use a different browser. I do not have the problem in Firefox on CM10. The ".com" alt shortcut still doesn't work, but I don't mind that much. Maybe Chrome/Opera/etc would also work?

I actually tried Chrome before to see if it would be a work around and it was not. You were right about using Firefox though, that did solve the problem! Thank you so much! Oddly enough though, the .com button does work in Firefox for me in a quick test on the Google home page.
