Got a weird bug that's started today. When I receive a message I have my little screen bubble with a smiley in it for handcent and no a black and white envelope and my ring tone plays twice too? I disabled notifications in the stock app so no idea why I get this other notification? It stays there until i clear it or click, and clicking just takes me to handcent??
Anyone help?
Just upgraded to CM7 on HTC Desire HD btw
do you have any other message app installed on your phone that shows the messages or otherwise?
oh and if you have handcent set up as default message application, that will be why it goes to handcent. to me it sounds like another app notifying you. one that comes to mind for me would be pure messenger widget. or another app that uses multiple messaging methods (e-mail, sms etc)

No I dont but I figured it out. I went through and unistalled a couple of apps i installed last night. turned out it was beautiful widgets pack 2? couldnt access this app to change settings etc, but tis all fine now!
I have a Samsung Charge, and I have noticed that every time I receive a new GMail message, I get two notifications.
I started turning off various notification sources, but I still get an audible ring & phone vibration whenever a new GMail message arrives.
Where is the mystery / duplicate notification coming from?
Thanks,

Which notification sources have you turned off?
The GMail app has its own notification source. And, I *think*, you can set it per account (not sure).
There is also Sound setting Notifications, not sure if GMail leverages that or not.
Are you using any third-party email applications?

I have my GMail set for "Email Notifications" disabled. I would think that would be enough to prevent getting GMail notifications.
I also have ADW Notifier installed, but it doesn't really have anything about displaying notifications other than the number bubble. Regardless, I uninstalled ADW Notifier, and didn't see any difference.
I also have K-9 Mail. I turned off all notifications on that, and also saw no effect. K-9 doesn't even interface with my GMail, so I don't see where it would make a difference anyways.
I don't have any other apps that should be associated to my mail programs.
Bump.
I have found that I only get the "Notification That Can't Be Killed" now just with new GMail messages. No other "mystery" notifications are occurring.
To see if I could fix this, I started using the TouchWiz Email application to consolidate all my email accounts, including GMail. I got rid of my K-9 mail app.
Now, I get a silent GMail notification from the TouchWiz Email app (which is what I want), but it seems like I still get an audible default notification tone from Google's GMail application whenever new GMail arrives.
I can't figure out why the GMail app Notifications are occurring. I think I have them all disabled, but I must be missing something ...
Please help ...

I have found one solution to fix this problem, though it shouldn't be necessary:
I purchased "Bloat Freezer", and "froze" the Google Gmail system application.
I'm curious (though, I didn't see many responses to this thread), has anyone tried turning off their GMail notifications in the Google GMail app?
I am wondering if turning off GMail Notifications even works on the SamChg.
I'll try later this evening when I'm not at work.
I actually always run my phone in silent mode, I am kind of against ringtones, chimes, etc. and thus have never had any issues with Gmail notifications because I've never needed to really turn them off.
I'll report back.

Thanks, burningembers! I'll be interested in what you find out.
BTW, I don't know if this is important, but I am running the Debloated v.4 ROM.
Sent via my Borg implant over the VZW network.
I have another nugget of information on this problem.
I unfroze the GMail application, and set my SamChg to sync my GMail again. However, in the GMail application, I set a different notification tone than the default notification.
Now, when I receive a new GMail, I get 2 audible notifications: One for the newly selected notification tone in the GMail application, and a second tone that is my default notification tone. Sometimes, they will play simultaneously.
I'm guessing that undesired, second "default" notification tone is generated as a result of the Google "account sync" itself.
How can I turn this off? And, again - Can anyone test this out for me to see if it is a global problem, or just my configuration?
Thanks!
Hey guys,
So my phone ran a bunch of app updates last night (including one to ChompSMS, my default text app) and now I'm not getting the little popup window or notification icons (on the status bar). I've tried uninstalling Chomp and clearing its data (and the stock SMS app's data) and using the default messaging app with the same result. I tried using another text app (Textra) and that didn't work either. Gmail notifications still work (that's the only email app I use).
One thing I'll note is that sometimes when I have a couple text messages the notification icons will appear only after I go into Chomp and open one of the new messages. It only seems to work when I have multiple unread messages.
I'm running MOAR 5.0. Any suggestions? no problems with this (or anything) until now. I'd prefer not to do a reset or restore since I spent a lot of time customizing things.
Update: seems Verizon Messaging had an update that messed with the notifications for other text apps. Notifications for Verizon Messaging still worked when enabled. I had been using it for group messages, but now that ChompSMS has it I've just frozen Verizon Messaging. Everything is back to normal now.
When I get a new text and have unread texts my phone will repeatedly play the notification sound as many times as there are unread texts. I am running evolvesms, smart launcher pro 3, on android 5.0.1. Default notifications are turned off. how do i change this to only alert me to the most recent text?!

yep!
yep tried that. even have uninstalled and installed new sms apps to no avail. Thanks though!
I'm new to Nova and liking it so far but I can't get numerical unread numbers to appear on my BlueMail icon.
The counters appear - and work - for messages and WhatsApp but not for BlueMail.
BlueMail is enabled in the TeslaUnread settings and the App Icon counter is setup correctly in BlueMail Global Settings.
Same problem on both a Moto G6 and a Oneplus 3
Anyone know what I'm missing??
Thanks

I think you need to look in the settings, and find the "permission notifications" item. I had a similar case on another launcher, I did not see the call of the subscriber, I had to look for it through a third service https://ukareacodes.org/ , but it was a long time ago, and I was a layman) It turned out all was much easier

Excellent pointer - thanks.
The launcher needed app permission to get email details.
Now working
