Proximity sensor issue? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

AT&T OneXL, rooted and running LiquidSmooth ROM, but I have had this issue on every ROM.
When I am on a call, somehow my face causes random apps or settings pages to come up. Tonight I put my phone in airplane mode in the middle of a call with a client. If I hold the phone at an odd angle (just the top edge touching my ear, angled away from my face) the screen stays off and it works, but I can't get the volume high enough to hear the other person.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions for a fix, either for the phantom face activation or a volume boost?

There is a "sorta" fix for this. When you initiate or answer the call, push the power button to manually make the screen sleep and you shouldn't have this problem any longer.

Thanks! So far this seems to work. I also have started using a wired headset at least when I am in the car, makes it a little louder.

T-Mobile Sensation 4G screenshot bug

So I found a bug where in I was able to take screenshots when pressing the home button. But it would happen everytime I pressed the home button so I kept taking screenshots all the time. This happened when I just sent a message on Gtalk, the keyboard was still active and pressed home and it said something along the lines of screenshot saved. The only way to stop this was to turn it off then on, but the first try to press the power down button, it did not want to turn the screen off.
Anyway, just letting the crowd know out there what they could expect. Seems more bugs that I've personally come across than before the update.
This is annoying the hell out of me!
Since the update I did earlier this has happened numerous times and the only way out of it is pressing the arrow key.
It goes back to normal after a few minutes then acts up again...
VERY odd.
Just checked out some other forums. This seems to be a pretty common error. The update did provide the ability to take a screen shot by holding the power button and hitting the home key.

Mine was doing the same, hitting power made it stop.
Hi there. Im from Russia and I had this bug for a several times too. I have original non-operator version of Sensation 3g, so I don't think the reason is your operator or 4g ability.
Freaking hate this bug!

Mine only does it when I use gtalk with sound or video. Other than that it never happens. To get rid of it I have to restart the device.

If interested, there is a temporary workaround if you are rooted.
That is, edit your build.prop file (/system/build.prop) with terminal or file explorer with root privileges and look for the line "ro.htc.framework.screencapture = true".
Either comment this line ("#") or change "true" to "false" then save build.prop and reboot twice.
THIS WILL DISABLE BUILT-IN SCREEN SHOOTS!! But it will also get rid of this bug.
Now go grab an app from Market if you need to take screen shoots, but don't like this bug.

I have this bug too and it's VERY annoying. I would rather HTC fix it than me having to disable a function of the phone!
I have the same problem!
Also the power button doesn't always turn the screen off and vice versa, it doesn't always turn it on. The screen comes on by itself at random times and sometimes when you press the power button, the screen turns off but then back on by itself.

I've not rooted unfortunately
Has anyone heard more on this? My girlfriend's phone is doing it and she's afraid of voiding her warranty by rooting it.
Is there a way to stop this bug without the rooting of the phone ?
Mine just did this for the first time today. I didn't even know the Sensation was capable of taking screenshots until the home button just randomly started snapping them today. That was annoying.

[Q] Weird clicky noise when typing?

Hey guys,
Over the past few weeks I've realized a weird clicking noise when typing text messages. I do have "Vibrate feedback" enabled. Every time the phone vibrates from touch feedback, not only do I hear the normal sound of the vibration, but also an audible clicking noise. Is this normal? This sound was never an issue prior to a week ago.
Thanks
I get that too. It sounds like it's coming from inside the phone, not the speaker. But I think it's a common HTC one x flaw, because there are ALOT more people who have it also.

Try settings, language & keyboard, HTC Sense input, sound feedback.
On or off?
Sorry if I'm being captain obvious here, but I've overlooked simpler things myself.

probably the camera lens. put your ear next to the lense and lightly shake your phone. it's how the phone was designed
The noise surely isn't coming from the speaker. Maybe something loose within the phone? The lens noise is something I've noticed from the start, but this is unrelated.
Not something that is crazy annoying, but I was wondering if others had the same issue. Shaking the phone won't replicate the noise, and when I turn "Vibration feedback" off, the click will go away upon touching the screen.
It's a defect with the vibration motor. Of the 5 HOXs that I've gone through, 3 of them had it including my current one. It's annoying but it's the only problem my HOX has so I'm dealing with it.

Luckily I don't have this because I'm typing all the time. Seriously a lot. The camera lens click did worry me at first before I read this thread.
I occasionally get a clicky screen on the top though. Don't really press up there much.

yeah, it's how they designed it. I'm not sure the reasoning, but I do know that it was intentional
Using Swiftkey, I noticed that if I had my vibration duration too low (I think the default is 10ms) I would get the clicking and barely any vibration. Ramping it up at 20ms makes the vibration actually noticeable and the clicking stops. I think it may be the latency between you hitting the screen and the vibration motor kicking on that causes the clicking since (pulling numbers out of nowhere here...) the vibration motor may take 9.9ms to kick on after receiving a vibrate signal but at 10ms it receives an off signal so it just studders and causes a clicking noise.
Yea I get this too. This is my 3rd hox and all three have had it. I stopped worrying about it too much since I realized it has to be common. I noticed it after flashing different rooms since the vibration feedback when typing seems to feel more pronounced than on stock sense.

SwiftKey you can edit your own feedback. I set it to 20-25ms and it's fine.

I have the SAME exact thing. Definetely not the camera lens. Seems to be near the bottom of the phone. It's this clicky, poppy, tapping noise as if you are pulling apart two sticky objects. I agree that it seems like the vibration motor.
I had it on my desire gsm. I think its due to vibration kicking in.
Well I can try later, keyboard vibration off and see if it makes a click.
But never did annoys, I'm loving it actually, just like a typewriter.
Guys. It's the vibration feedback when typing. The response time must be different than the program time and it only kicks a little. I set my SwiftKey keyboard to 25ms vibration when typing. It's very nice. No clicks because it gives it enough time to vibrate and it feels good. Trust.

I'm have this same problem on a new HT 27 batch model. This is not just a SwfitKey typing issues a the capacitive buttons and the dialer all make the same clicky noise. I getting really bored of swapping my HOX now this is my third and what I thought was perfect is not. I will have to send my to HTC as it's out of the 28 days grrrr.
Mine has the same problem, it sounds and feels really wrong like it's scraping against something. I heard a friend who has the EVO 4g LTE say he has the same problem.
Makes me feel really bad about the phone, like they didn't care enough to test it properly.
Mine also does this if the vibrate feedback is enabled. I just disabled it and now I'm fine.

I have an HT25 i never get a click but aosp roms have much more intense vibration then sense roms. Wish i knew how to lower the intensity in CM10 and other aosp roms.

Cm10 earpiece volume won't lower

I love cm10 but I have one issue which is obviously in the title of the thread. I can not turn down the earpiece volume for a call and people across the room can hear my conversations. Anyone have this issue? Is it known? I did a search here and it didn't turn up anything. Is there a fix? Thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Known bug that's mentioned on almost every page of the CM10 nightly build thread.
Click volume button once, use the volume slider on the screen.
Slide it all the way to the right, then back all the way down to the left.
Volume should be a bit quieter now, but still loud.
Have to do this each time as the setting isn't saved between calls.
Thanks, but I have a job and a busy life so I don't have time to read threads. I figured that's what the search button is for and as I mentioned, I tried multiple searches pertaining to the problem. I did what you mentioned before I posted this and it is still way too loud. It's so loud that it's uncomfortable to have even a short conversation. I was hoping there was more of fix but I guess I'll be using a different rom until then. Thanks for the answer nonetheless.

Stuck power button

So my galaxy s2 skyrocket has a stuck power button. Lately it getting worse, because multiple times a day it just turns off and vibrates until I do something. I'm currently on vacation so I can't take it apart here. Is there any easy fix and/or app that can replace the turning on the phone with a different button? I have done anything about it because I'm getting a new phone soon.

Power switch troubleshooting, teardown and fixes
Suddenly I had the power button problem too yesterday. I was watching the screen and it locked and vibrated like a FC. Then it shut down into a permanent 2.5 sec. intervals vibrating boot loop.
Recovery and Download modes were therefore unreachable. I could see one Samsung logo on the way to Recovery or quickly tap volume up at the Flash Warning screen and see the download Android go by before forced restart. Good, because the correct troubleshoot is that simply inserting the battery begins the loop. (It's your power button then!)
The external power switch remained spring loaded (physically operational), but ineffective. The problem is more internal. Tapping it on the table edge didn't help. I took out the battery, SD and SIM cards and seven cross head screws. Unsnapping the i727's back cover was easy using my fingernails; beginning with the slack space surrounding the volume rocker with the opposite hand clawing gently in the battery well, then threading your way around the case edge. The rocker freely floats out of position, so don't let it fall too far!. It is easily threaded back into position for reassembly.
Inside the external power switch's location is the plastic power button (short cylindrical nub on molded plastic block). That too was still spring loaded and physically operable, but ineffective versus the boot looping.
In my case, the hardware fix came by peeling up the corner of the mainboard nearest the button and blowing a few times, with the button edge facing down so gravity helps clean out any dust.
I tested by inserting the battery (voila! no vibration) and booting before shutting down for reassembly. I had a good soft screen lock button on my home screen's Widgetsoid custom widget and had largely ignored it. Now I have added the Smart Screen ON app and will use both. SSO offers both functions if you like. Thanks to the members who pointed out the troubleshooting, teardown and fixes detailed here.

[Q] Power Button hard to press

For the last year or so my lock button has gotten harder to press and doesn't have that "click" feel to it. Does anybody know why this is or how to fix it?
EDIT: my power button stopped working all together. If anybody knows how to fix this or turn my phone on without adb(to switch batteries), it would be greatly appreciated.

take off you back cover and see if the plastic button got somehow trim
try also to press the power button with a toothpick or with your finger
to check if you have the same hard pressing
I have 2 back covers and both of them seem fine. How can you tell if they got trim? I used my finger and a sharp object, they both turn it on but it feels the same

hmm, i don't know what else to suggest
did the device ever fell from your hands and hit in that spot?
if yes maybe it can cause that issue
well i tried to clean out the dust with a can of air and it blew out this little film thing and now it doesnt work at all hahaha but i got the device set up to use the vol up button as a power button but it is only recognized when it is powered on. does anybody know how to boot the device without adb? im currently using adb to start but its a pain to have a computer around to start the phone. i switch batteries a lot so its really inconvenient. btw i noticed that the phone doesnt turn off if you remove the battery in bootloader if it has a usb cable plugged in but i cant select any of the options without a power button
Bump
