You guys think Moto/Verizon will let us trade in for Moto X? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title. Not sure if I'd do it, though.

Not in a million years. I'd rather have the 2012 model anyway, though.

If anything, the software will be better. But I'm fine with my MAXX HD right now.

A lot of things should be and probably will be better than the RAZR HD with the X. But after all your current isn't that bad though other brand owners will tell u it's rubbish Not going to get the option in the UK
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium

I don't think I would trade my MAXX HD in right now, but I can tell you I hope some of the devs are able to port the firmware over. While I doubt I would use touchless controls, the new notification system is something I can see myself using a lot.

i guess two questions pop into my head...why would you want to, and why should they?

If you complain enough you *might* be able to get a alternate device swap for it but it would be rough. If you have an unlocked bootloader on your HD you are giving that up as the Moto X on Verizon does not have an unlocked bootloader. The dev version will though.
I guess the way I look at it is the Razr HD will eventually get 4.2.2 or 4.3 and if I cant wait i will just enjoy CyanogenMod until they do. Now if you have a regular Razr HD and not the MAXX and you have a locked bootloader or dont care about locked bootloaders then go for the X. Just complain enough and they will probably let you switch. I would wait a month though after its released to try as you dont get a new X or any new device as you only get refurbs. Have to give time for refurbs to show up in order for them to think about switching you.

I complained alot and they kept asking me to send my phone for repair. After three sends, I gave up, unlocked the bootloader and installed a custom rom. No more over heating issues now.

To trade or not to trade- insight needed!

Hello everyone, been reading these forums.for a while now. . Recently registered. I have a question you all might be able to help me out on. I've been having fun flashing roms left and right since the unlocking of the bootloader, love this phone. Screen, removable battery, speed, eveverything. Only downfall is my signal issues. Flashed new modem, tried just about everything, still everyone is choppy and.I'm dropping calls. Also been informed people have tried calling me with my phone not ringing. Coming from a razr maxx and before that OG razr, then droid x. My question to all is I have a friend who's willing to trade his razr maxx limited edition (red and black kevlar) and 100$, for my s3. What do you guys think? Stick with the s3? Wait for official JB? Hold out for Razr HD? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Personally, I'd rather have the GS3. But if strong signal & battery life are your 2 number 1 features, then maybe the maxx is better. You should be able to do better than $100 cash in the trade.
You sure it's not that your S3 is defective? If you have access to another S3, maybe try it in the area you use your S3 most often.

I second this.
I'd Odin back to 100% stock/bloated and run it for a little see if the connectivity issue is resolved. If not bring it to verizon and tell them to fix it/replace it. I wouldn't take a step backwards to a Razr Maxx or no Maxx.... ick. hehe

I agree I think I would be extremely disappointed going to the Razr Maxx from the S3...I would think that it would be defective and flashing back to stock via odin, or having Verizon replace it for you would fix the problem...I think your best bet is to see if you can get better service with your S3 first before making a decision some might say your bound to regret.

My mother also has the SGS3, coming from an HTC rezound and is experiencing the same problems call quality/signal strength. Must just be a weaker radio in the samsung devices. All of my motorola devices were flawless when it came to not dropping a call.

Did you have dropped calls with your previous RAZR Max or droid x?
And is 4G coverage where you are good? Coming from a RAZR Max, I definitely prefer gs3.
My opinion - if you're going to trade it in, wait for RAZR HD. It looks slick.

Thanks guys, I LOL'ed at the iphone downgrade. As for the previous questions. The 4g in my area is pretty decent. With the maxx, I was always connected, but more importantly I never dropped a call. I am going to odin back to stock and give it a go for a bit. Ill keep you posted however, the question remains. . . If I continue to have problems, what do I do? I really don't want a Factory refurb. Idk, maybe I'll try dumping it off to someone on CL.

If the MAXX is the red and black employee edition, double check to make sure it can be transferred to another person. There was some fine print attached to the employee edition razors.

Very Nice! Although what it does not say is how long the implementation will take. By that time most everyone here will have most likely traded in their A2 for a Galaxy SIII. Or something more powerful. Look at how long ICS is taking to hit the US A2.
If we don't get JB the $100 offer will be useless to me unless Motorola makes the next Nexus device.
I wonder if they are going to skip ICS and go straight to JB (att version)? May this be what's holding up the ICS soak?

Keep in mind folks, as far as the "developing options" goes, I doubt that means unlocking the bootloader.
We already have a "development options" tab in our leak, remember? That may be why it's on the leak, because Moto was testing it before it was released.
This could be nice. But... if they expect to get the updates out by the end of the year, they ought to start kicking a** instead of dragging it. I'm hopeful.

The $100 credit will more than likely only be for MOTO products...
Wow. Assuming that we didn't end up with jellybean, I would take my $100 credit and buy a new unlocked moto phone as soon as it comes out, sell it on eBay, and put the $100 difference in the BL unlock bounty

Their phones are top notch, but they're locked, which is supposedly gonna change, so I'd take a hundred bucks towards a new Motorola if its unlocked, if not my girlfriend can have it. I'm personally one of the (what seems like) very few people who loves Motorola phones. Samsungs feel too cheap, and Sense causes lag.

add to that, if you bought your phone on ebay, or outside usa, the $100 credit is good for toilet paper.

Well this a good place to cross-link threads: the Support My Moto Campaign - I see a few of us have already been over in that thread... not sure what we will really get out of this, but it's a good consolidated effort I suppose.
And, what you all talking 'bout? We already got some jelly beans for our phone (cm10 - pretty good start, so far) - and, I am pretty optimistic that we will get some other flavors of JB too.. so, I guess the news is not so disappointing.
On the other hand, I will be taking advantage of Moto in any way I can, so gimme that 100 virtual bucks!
Probably use it for my wife's A2 - she don't need unlocked bootloaders - heck, she wants me to put her back on GB after a week of ICS
Moto seems to make good quality phones/handsets.. but I will most likely move on to another manufacturer and keep my A2 as a backup.
Edit: We are on that list, but the plain ol' RAZR (xt910/912) is not?!? That's just wrong...

Yea man. The best way to do it, if you WANT a phone, save up the money and pay what you have to. Contracts get way out of hand when it comes to the small things. I'm currently tied down myself, but not for much longer. I'll most likely keep the A2 as a back up though since its still a very good piece of hardware AND I've grown quite fond of my A2 community (good people). And, honestly, I may or may not go with another Moto phone. It just all depends.
But all in all, this whole deal with Moto really doesn't bother me as bad as others are bothered. I mean come on, this phone is the shiz, and Moto really does make great phones. Its just from a developers point of view where things get sour.
Yes I went off topic a bit, but sometimes its needed for others to read and relate to.

My dilemma. To upgrade or not.

So I got a new att HTC one x last week for 9.99 from att. I love it! But now I'm liking the Lumia 920 and the x+ that's coming out this Friday for 200. I still have a week to exchange my phone...what should I do?
I already rooted and have cm10 running. And I'm happy other than battery life. But that's ok I always have a charger near by. I only like the true Google experience and hate the sense ui. But I did like my old wp7 phone. What should I do? Keep my one x or exchange it for the one x+? Our the Lumia 920?

lol I would love to work for a carrier... First thing I would do is load the bootloader up and check, but also boot the phone up just incase. Then if i see a custom rom, tempered/unlocked bootloader I'll just laugh and procede with the return/exchange.
Android to wp8 won't be a sweet transition so i would say that you go and get x+ if at all they happen to take it back !

I personally not invest any time or money in a phone OS that has a 1 to 2 % market share, such as in the base of Windows Phone (market data showing WP at just under 4% market share actually include those that are still on the old Windows Mobile platform, and have simply not updated their devices).

I say wait till windows OS matures (maybe a generation after this one) because they don't have many important apps in their market ecosystem, currently. HTC One X is a good phone and you won't miss much except for the wireless charging plate included in the Lumia 920; uses the same processor too.

Thanks, was hoping maybe someone has heard something. The moto x and g both have 4.4.2 so our droid lineup is left awaiting the update
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium
For the last two OTAs, the Droids didn't see a soak test until 5 to 6 weeks after the first X received the OTA, and definitely after all of the US carriers had the OTA. Verizon and AT&T Moto X phones still don't have the OTA, and it's only been a couple of weeks since the unlocked X got 4.4.2, so I'd just relax until the second week of March or so, if history repeats itself.
The G never had 4.4 - it went from 4.3 to 4.4.2, probably because Moto started working on the update after 4.4.2 was released. But, really, the X and the G are Moto's flagship phones. I think the Droids will always lag those two for updates.

Lol how does it have anything to with being used to break news? If you don't have anything positive to contribute why post? At least I'm willing to ask questions instead of sitting around wondering.

Every device has one of these threads where people whine that the oem isn't providing ETA of the next update as if there's a requirement for them to tell you. Calm down and enjoy your device and know it will be updated when it's ready. If you're in a hurry buy a nexus.

I do enjoy my device, aside from the known bugs which are a constant annoyance. The Moto G and X have received the update so obviously the question arises is it in the works for the Droids..
No there's not a requirement for them to say, that's why people ask. Its a simple question, not "whining".
Like I said if you have nothing positive to contribute keep opinions to yourself

Go right ahead, no need to be arrogant about it. So what, my opinion is different from yours. I don't go around telling people to stop whining when they ask a question. I'm sure you can make better use of your time

I'm running 4.4.2 right now topsnake ported it from the moto x you need an unlocked boot loader but runs great.
What are the significant differences from 4.2.2 >4.4 >4.4.2?
I just went to 4.4 and haven't seen anything too noticeable. I think a few of my games play better. But some apps like eBay are acting a little wonky.
I guess the UI is a little snappier.

There have been changelogs posted. I think that we can look at the Moto X changelog for 4.4.2 to see what the Droids might get from 4.4.2. Not much - mostly bug fixes (battery life problems, exchange mail sync problems I think.)
4.4 changes were mostly internal stuff. BT 4.0 and BT LE devices are now supported. Emulated secure element for NFC, so Google Wallet tap to pay now works. Full screen mode. Camera touch to focus update. There are now printing options. The rest of the stuff in the changelog about the Gallery app is updated, since the gallery app has been updated a couple of times since then. There are also updates to Touchless Controls and Active Display. And a bug with the home key, that has the phone respond as if you pressed the home key twice.

4.4.2: http://support.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/moto-x.pdf
(Strangely, the update changelog on VZW's site has been pulled and is now showing the update for the first OTA, 12.7.7, that came with the phone last August.)
