hello guys, im asking for opinion in several subforums for the devices with qwerty kb and touchscreen
Are you happy with this phone?
I'm hesitating particularly with this one due to the lack of development and support, which its doing me reluctant to consider it, as for the stratosphere ii
These are my options.
Anything important i should know about this device?
In your opinion, should it work in spain?

it will work in spain.
it's a nice device, the worst thing about it is the pentile matrix display imho. out of all the ones you listed, it's the best.
the only qwerty slider that is better than relay is the photon Q but it requires hardware modifications to work with SIMs
last but not least, the relay has an *amazing* dev team. if you however expect to have the same amount of roms as more popular phones like sgs3/4, well, you're out of luck with any qwerty slider then

hello
thanx for your answer. I didnt know about the pentile matrix display. I've been reading about its pros and cons.
and yeah i read about the modifications that you have to do to the phothon Q as well. It comes with attached sim, or something like that.
well, im kinda new over here and also new with android stuff. I was a nokia n95 user till recently. But if i compare the movement in this subforum with something like the one for the captivate glide or this thread for the se xperia pro thread, it seems to be a bit slow. Still more options here than the offered ones for the stratosphere 2. And yeah it seems to be one of the best mobiles of its kind.
I take note of what u said. Thank you!

Personally, if you don't have a place like xda to help enjoy your phone then it's not worth getting another phone that you can not customize above and beyond the typical parameters. I don't know too much about LG or Toshiba's support sites out there but I often stick with HTC because xda.
It's not just about the phones specs but the people behind the phones that matter more. XDA is that community that keeps me close to HTC.
Do research using the various website like GSM Arena to figure out the best phone....but don't stop there. Find out the support Groups that are willing to carry you and your device to it's furthest limits.
Hope this helps.....
Well said band27! Definately check the HTC devices & hang out on XDA!

Thanks ......and yes, if it wasn't for xda, I would have left HTC by now.
Viva XDA! Viva las vegas! Either one sounds good, yes?
I probably should get some air as I've been on this site for some considerable hours today.......lol and loving it!

Hi there
I have a LG IQ (Canadian eXpo). I have never had a HD or a tg01 so I cant compare them directly but I can comment on the eXpo.
I very much like my eXpo, but as other posters have said, the big thing you lose going to another manufacturer is this communities support, although several on this forum have stated that they will work on ROM development when it becomes possible. There is a fledgling web site www.lg-expo.com and a special interest group here, where discussions about development can take place.
things I love about the eXpo:
The keyboard - as good feel as the Touch Pro 2, but with a few less keys
The screen - colorful and bright but I havent used a HD
The SPEED of the processor -1 GHz and you know it when browsing or booting your device. You also know it when using processor intensive apps - doing things like browsing a large music collection.
the camera - 5 Mpixel, flash and it works quite well for a phone camera.
I am looking forward to the coming availability of the projector attachment.
the hardware multi-tasking button, and LG task manager works better than anything else I have seen on WM
the fingerprint reader - yes this works for security - and it works fast so I actually use it, which wasn't the case with the password systems and in my situation I really should use security of some type.
After TF3D or Sence, the S Class user interface is different and needs some getting used to! I have grown to like it but it was a rocky road the first week.
The bad...It has no internal stylus, so you have to use your finger nail sometimes. With 6.5 I find I can live with this since I don't end up wanting to use a stylus too much.
good luck and cheers,
Stay with HTC!
Go for Leo or Rhodium
So far the best 2 devices to this date

Yeah specially N1 thats coming out lol there is some stuff on n1user.com
So, looking at switching to AT&T, but may not go for an iPhone. They offer the HTC Pure or HTC Tilt 2, so wonder which one is more feature packed, user friendly, upgradable, etc, for the cost. I can get the Pure for 50, or the Tilt for 150. I know, duh, go for the cheapest. But I believe in the "you get what you pay for" theory.
This forum has been a HUGE help in just dealing with my iPaq (I know, but the programs here work great on it!), so figure you guys are the experts. Any and all opinions are wanted!
Honestly there is not much difference between the two phones. biggest ones would be the tilt2 has a hardware keyboard and is bigger. and the pure has a 5mp camera they both have same processor memory etc. So really your decision should be based on whether you want a hardware key board or not, personaly, I have to have my HW keyboard
both devices are well supported here with many custom ROMs so upgrading will be no problem
Good Luck
Thanks Splinter. Now regarding ROM upgrading, I tried that with my iPaq (thanks again for trying Spaatie!), and wasn't able to. My concern is that if I go with AT&T, ROM upgrade wouldn't affect the phone portion, correct? And would I be able to get ROM's that simulate UI's like the HD2's, or would I just see if Androkkid would work on the phone instead of risking ROM upgrades?
Keep the opinions coming folks!

That will depend if a hardware keyboard device is a must for you, if so go for Rhodium!
It´s a great device
If you don´t care about keyboard you can go for Topaz...
Both are great HTC devices
yea, I would love to fork out the bucks for the HD2, BUT I need a phone that works with AT&T (plus 700 bucks is way out of my price range...actually....my wife's price range )
So just looking at Pure or Tilt2. Sounds as if its strickly a keyboard issue?
Yes, they have almost identical specs:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=1750&id2=1751
Thanks Orb3000! That link was pretty much what I couldn't find! So, it looks like IF we go to the dark side, I will be getting that phone. I like the Tilt2 comes with a bit more accessible memory (though not ROM, wonder why), stereo speakers and an FM radio?! Thats just cool.
Thanks again, I knew you guys were the best at this stuff!
Now, 5 months from now, I may be back on wondering what ROM upgrades to do next to it!
i suggest looking into the device specific forums to have an idea of the options you have. rom upgrading is extremly easy now and many chefs have great roms.
just make sure you have the hard spl for the device. im kinda in the same possition as you are, my upgrade is available in april so i'll be getting a tilt2 to replace my fuze, and will be flashing it with energyrom as soon as i get home lol.
The Touch Pro 2 is a much better phone slightly bigger screen and a button qwerty keyboard, unless you dont care about the keyboard in which case the Pure might be better because it's slightly thinner.
Hello All. I am just wondering about how developers feel about the bootlock from Motorola versus the lack of support from Samsung, and the battery woes of HTC. What kind of phone are you guys planning on getting?
My personal view seems that Samsung makes a pretty good phone, and who cares if they don't support it because DEVs make better roms anyway. What do you all think? What is the phone of choice?
I'm curious about this as well. I'm looking at all the next gen stuff and wondering which tablets and phones will end up being supported by devs and most of all CM. I'd like to get an xoom or a galaxy tab 10", but if all the devs are planning on buying the HTC flyer I'd go that way just to ensure I have the the dev's device of choice. I guess the best bet is to wait for everything to be released and see what happens?
Bump ........
Well I'm no dev, but I'm planning on sticking with Samsung more than likely. You're totally right- even though Samsung doesn't support it, devs do (better than Samsung ever could), and the hardware is better than anything out there.
Anyways, why do we all root and use custom ROMs? Because we're dissatisfied with stock software. So company support doesn't matter much to me.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You asked about phones. IMO, tablets are a different topic entirely (different use cases, different pocket! ), so all I'll say is that when I get a tablet, I'll just get the best one for the best price I can afford
As for my next phone: I'm kinda bummed. I'm VERY happy with my Desire HD, but NFC has caught my attention, so my next phone will be:
-slightly smaller than the DHD
-have NFC
-have the best screen (outdoor visibility) I can find
-last a full day with heavy usage (my DHD fits the bill after using JuiceDefender and SetCPU)
As for who makes it: I don't care, as long as it's rootable (and everything seems to get rooted ). But my last couple of phones have been HTC, as they seem to jibe with my upgrade curve
wow... Guess Devs aren't reading my lowly post. haha
Wow this area of the forum is getting busy, last week there was just a few of us, now the numbers are increasing fast. I knew this phone was going to be popular, just wait till the USA gets it too
Welcome new O3D owners.
Pete
i was just thinking the same i'm a member since yesterday but i followed this forum a few days before that and it's getting real busy awesome
mmm, when is supposed to be out in USA?
I guess we all just know a good phone when we see it.
Can't believe I was considering a Galaxy S2 or an HTC Sensation over my O3D. What was I thinking?!

Really dude, what were you thinking. Forget about the 3d, Optimus is still better than them. Tri-Dual and the Omap4 is the key
I noticed so excited when I purchased my LG because I'm not so sure whether it is true the right smartphone for me and if it gets the community it deserves. But what amazes me it goes fast because it is not yet available everywhere. I think there are still some great things to come
I'm very close to buying one.
My main concern is that the standard 2D 5MP camera is going to be rubbish up against the Galaxy S II. However, my software support fears have been alleviated by the fact CM7 has been confirmed.
I hear the 3D really is quite excellent.
See this thread if you have a decent pictures to share - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174827
well i started in this forum with my HTC Elfin, then Xperia X1, then Motorola Milestone, then Galaxy S, then Galaxy S2 (for two weeks) and now my journey ended with this masterpiece of a smartphone!
looking forward to flash and test and flash and so on

its so much more than just themes. there is deffo no malware protection. most manufacturers would probably describe it as malware!
cyanogenmod is a completely from the ground up customised version of android operating system designed for the power user with the intent of maximising the control over and performance of the raw hardware. it allows you to fully manage the settings and behaviours of your device to suit the way YOU like it.
i will honestly never buy another phone that does not have cyanogen available for it, its that good.
Things do seem to be picking up now in these forums which is nice to see.

well it's not that easy...
cyanogenmod is a opensource version of android.
normal customroms are basing on firmwares of the company.
cm7 not. its based on the officual code from google.
on the one side the programmers are able to change the code more easyer and deeper than the firmwares, on the other hand its harder to port cm7 to a new device with all the hardwaresupport.
and yes cm7 is always rooted
pros of cm7:
faster (not from the beginning on)
more funktions
cooler
cons of cm7:
at the beginning there are always bugs (due the different hardware)
some functions never work (for example tv-output of the galaxy s)
at the beginning batterydrain
so at the beginning the cm7-ports to a new device are buggy, slow, batterydraining and don't support the full hardware.
but after a lot of new releases it's really great! blazing fast, cooler, batterysaving and and and
Just got my P920 hope the amount of users will grow everyday
So I love one thing, and that is to have a phone with a qwerty hardware keyboard. I've had many many phones over the past 8 years, but the ones that I will never forget are my ADP1(Dream), and my Nokia N900. Right now I dumped my M8 and got back with my N900. But I do want the speed and hardware of newer smartphones, I see projects like the Neo N900 and I drool.
Of course blackberries and their PRIVacy which doesn't allow rooting are a no-no.
Anyone knows something I don't?

The current times are leaving devices like that behind just like with the old flip phone. Get used to it and get a touchscreen phone.

True, it's not like I expect to see a whole new line of phones with physical keyboards, but every now and then something has to come up. There has to be a device coming up to cater to the needs of people like me! I know I'm not the only one who would love this.

Things like physical keyboard are a thing of the past, so much so that I doubt there will be many more devices that have them. Think about it, it costs them more to make devices with physical keyboard plus it leaves less room for screen space. Touch screen with software keyboard is the smarter, cheaper, better option. Plus, non keyboard devices makes more marketing sense given that competitors kill them in sales.

Yeah I see that, that's why I'm looking for a device that's not too deprecated. As in the best qwerty handheld device out there for someone who can't let go of hardware keyboards, excluding a certain sprint-locked device(that's you photon q). Unless someone has seen something about an upcoming hopefully rootable(if android) qwerty device.
