Hi all, just as a matter of curiosity, why hasnt the samsung sgh i780 been added to the forums (i know there are people who have added stuff for the i780 here - there just isnt a link from the main page to a forum specifically for the i789)?
I know the forums are generally htc/treo targeted but the i780 is a windows mobile based device which out weighs the tytan 2 in many respects and performs well as a pda/ppc, surely it would be of interest to many to see what rom updates etc you guys could come up with for this great device from the first page?
I am a wizard owner and am upgrading to the i780 - hence the "mandatory" blowing of its horn. I would love to see what you guys come up with as i never make a move on my wizard without first reading up on it here, it would be a pity to start tinckering with the i780 without first cross referencing here on XDA
This is a forum for htc devices only, people have asked for i780 forum before also, but as i said this forum is just for htc devices. You have to look somewhere else for samsung i780 forum (check my signature).
Hmmm... i always thought it was more for windows mobile devices as opposed to focusing on a single brand of phone, cant complain though - everything here is still awesome.
Thanks Sammy, i think this is the first reply i have ever gotten on xda, hence mu low post count . Im checking out your sig now. Thanks again
hmmm, windows mobile is becoming a standard on alot of devices now. maybe they should consider adding a section for other brands since everyone ends up here on this site anyway.
Not to mention at the moment other brands have posts and threads all over the show making it all very messy.
They can simply add a section and call it : Non HTC brands ... will certainly keep the forum neater.
Maybe someone should make a poll and put some pressure on the guys to do it ?
Well, even though i had given up the query i am still inclined to feel that there isnt any reason phones like the i780 arent a featured device.

Fair enough, but no explanation as to why XDA describes itself as
XDA said:

Doesnt make much sense, it almost implies that htc, palm and treo are the "only" true hybrids... Dont know about anyone else but my i780 whips most of em and makes for a pretty realistic hybrid of phone and pda.
Such as it is though, i am still very appreciative of the people on xda, a lot of time and effort goes into their work - for htc's and whatever else the mobile world pumps out. So essentially if they dont want to waver from pure htc then who am i to argue. Hence i suggested and dropped it.
- by the by, any admins reading this... how do i change my screen name?
yes i would agree with a general samsung phone as there are a few of us here among the HTC user. btw HTC made the hardware for the Palm treo 750 that is why there is a forum for it here.
Along the same lines, Samsung is responsible for the processors in most htc devices.
Im glad someone agrees with me though, even a general "click here for samsung stuff" would be great.
I have a htc like you but I would not be against the idea of a section for other brands
If xda-developers admins dont want to add non HTC devices then how about this: Create brand new site that will host a forum for all these devices. Then just ask the admin to add one dummy category that will guide all non HTC users to the unofficial xda-developers forum.
The problem is there are too many other forums. For example modaco – there are categories for different devices but ROM cookers keeps releasing on xda-devs. I like they are relesing it here but sometimes it's hard to find among all the HTC topics.

Lol... yeah, i have checked out modaco a few times but the reality of it is that they are just adding links through to xda. Doesn't really help the cause. The thing that makes a forum like this so great is that there are so many dedicated developers "HERE" - why would they want to go somewhere else It is weird however that the developers are obviously interested in developing for other hybrids, so why haven't any of them posed the question? surely its disappointing to see your hard work disappear under tons of "i need a great headset" and "my phone got wet" posts?
Well, i made a poll on weither or not we should have a non HTC section, please go cast your vote there. this way Admin can actually see how many of us there are that use other brands and might change their minds ...
go vote here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417812
We have been trying for ages to get them to do this, it is not going to happen. Trust me.
Thanks for trying though.
Rob
I guess we should be happy they dont delete the thousands of posts in Samsung/HP/Dell/Acer/... cooked ROM threads.
ok ok i know im new hear but first impressions. i dont fell welcome.
the problem isnt the users hear. they are great..........its the moderators.
all i see is threds less than 24hours old with no replyes are closed. threads that need to be talked about. also threads that where closed for no reason. or some one has made a mistake and rather than fix the problom they just close it.
why are they doing this?
also after meany pleas from alot of users. they still refuse to make an xperia pro (not mini) thread or a sony tablet p thread
we cant "just use the xperia arc or xperia s forums" as they are still verry different when it comes to rooting ect,
this place moderated in the wrong way. this isnt supposed to be a dictatorship
im shore im going to get band for this but it only proves my point
just a few examples

also they keep crying "USE THE SEARCH".........im sorry but the "search" needs some work in a big way
Welcome.

so did you just post this trying to make your way to the 10 post rule? im just saying... it looks that way because its just a few pages that your talking about, but any way... i just sign up because i got the HTC one x and android forums dont have people on it yet to help with the AT&T X. but you could always try them out... ive always gotten alot of useful info from AF.
Grow up. XDA is free. Most of us here, including mods, do this for NOTHING, except the occasional press of the thanks button.

I'm sorry you feel that way dude, but you have to remember that the primary goal of XDA is development. Lot's of friendly people do their best to help the less tech savvy work their way through how to do things, but the primary purpose is to make it as easy as possible for the developers to develop. That means spam needs to be kept to a minimum.
I'm sorry, but that's just the way things are, and the majority of users are ok with this because they see that the results of this Iron Fist is faster and better development for all.
Isn't that video a part of the sign-up process anyway?
I don't believe so, but it should be. And if there was any place to vote on that, I'd vote for it 100%. I really, really believe it would help cut down on threads like these, especially since it has some humor in it and not everyone knows how to use a forum from the get go.
Hmmm.......I think this forum is great....
Half of the threads that are posted in different sections don't belong there. It's annoying seeing "Why is my phone rebooting?" with a very vague description of the problem, in the General section.
That's why most are closed, they're just in the wrong section.

Well I post this in the Sony Xperia S' forum. But I think it should be addressed here as well. If you're a Samsung fan boy feel free to walk.
Ok folks here's my sentiment about XDA's biasedness towards Samsung. If you're a samsung fan boy feel free to walk.
So the US versions of the Samsung Plasticky s3 have not come out yet and yet there already are forums for them? Sprint Samsung galaxy s3
Verizon Samsung galaxy s3
ATT Samsung galaxy s3.
Tmobile Samsung galaxy s3.
But the Sony Xperia Ion is coming out in the same time and it's the only Sony phone in the US but it does not have a forum? I remember when the international s3 had not come out yet and it had its own forum. What bs is that? I'm not really a Sony fan but I'm so sick of how Android is morphing into a Samsung-only avenue. Why not just rename the forum from XDA developers to XDA Samsung's ass kissers to not mislead newbie Android users? I know I will get warnings and stuff but I dont give a crap anymore.
Update: Excuse for not having a Sony Xperia Ion forum:
As I said here a few days ago:

Mainly because the people involved in those kind of decisions will most likely not see it here.
Not every phone can have a home in XDA.
There are many factors affecting the decision, one of them being interesting and continuous development, this is xda-developers after all.
P, U and Sola are relatively new devices, borderline low-end, middle-end at best, so it could go either way.
You need to be patient and in the meantime, try to make the accomodation of more than one phones under the same section bearable.
It is your responsibility to post in the correct sub-section, provide clear and to-the-point thread titles ("HEEEEEEEELP " "OMG wtf happened to my phone" "???" etc, are NOT acceptable) with tags ([P], , [Sola], ) so that the forums are as clean and helpful as possible.
Thanks!
Ion, even though definitely a high-end phone, is just not that popular at the moment. I do not think XDA favors Samsung, users do, so they render their products popular.
Please make your requests here, keeping in mind that they may or may not be met after all.
Thank you!
Now look at the image attached. I call BS on this.
Yawn.

i dont really agree with your sentiment,
Sammsung has flooded the market with their phones they hit every carrier and every pricepoint so there is gonna be alot more users. the GSIII has been a very highly antisipated phone in fact it may even kick the iphone off its pedestal as the single most popular phone.
i find XDA's coverage of Sony to be exceptional the news feed mentions a Sony related item at least 3 times a week. that is impressive because market share wise sony is almost non existant. The forum is very active for most of the Sony models. way more than i have seen on any other site.
What us sony useres have going for us is the fact that Sony has been very accomodating to the Dev comunity and all we need to do is enjoy it and continue to encourage it.
1. I do not see an ATT, VZW or a Sprint dedicated Galaxy S III forum. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place? Using xda app and don't see it under forum alphabetical names anywhere.
2. The s3 is the most anticipated Android phone of all time, it has something like 20 million units sold/pre ordered already.
3. WWWWHHHHHAAAAAAAA (baby's cry)

So do you think that just because a manufacturer releases a phone that XDA should open up a new forum for it? Got news for you, XDA is FINITE. Hard decisions have to be made about where to allocate resources. That is why there is a specific thread for this purpose. It is sticky noted to the top of the general XDA-developers.com subforum.
New Device Forum Requests
Perhaps if you can get enough people to request a new forum for your device then the admins will see enough of an audience to warrant allocating those resources.
:crying:This time I was in the community have understood many things and I lose myself much to the world never ceases android say that my first mobile was a nexus s android that which I am filled with great satisfaction and pride, as the developers have always given to whether to form a large family and help improve the mobile to be having a good performance speed and duration. I maybe fires me now but I always take a pleasant effort with your questions, details along with everything that makes up the different way to search the solution to all .. I am infinitely grateful that I have helped during this time, maybe I moved to Galaxy Nexus or S2 or any other phone, but the experience I have learned here I will never forget and I will be always going to find out what's new. 'For me it was a little hard that if I loved a lot but you know you have to move forward .. Thanks guys ..

These aren't necessary. XDA has over 4 million users. If you haven't contributed anything your absence will not be noticed nor will your presence be missed.
Closed, imagine the spam if every one of our members said "goodbye" when they changed phones..
Hi there new userThis website isn't familiar with you, is it? Well let me introduce it to you my little fellow, this is xda-developpers.com, a forum where -previously android enthusiasts, now smartphone enthusiasts- share content, ask questions, give advices and answers, in order to customize our phone expirience. XDA has been a home for small project before they became very successful, one of the best examples is @zx2c4 's WireGuard, that has been integrated into the linux kernel now and will be available natively in Android 12 (source). zx2c4 has been developing this project in its early days for Android and ROM integration here at XDA. All of that to say, XDA is great, because of the community, and also the Moderation team that work their asses off to maintain XDA as spam free as possible. (am a mod now lol)
You know, I had the feeling that you'd come here first and start frenetically posting about how you feel, but there are some RULES (ta da) that you'll have to follow before posting about why you only buy product red iPhones in a 100 lines post. Here are some useful links to learn how to properly use and post on XDA.
Before reading them tho, finish this post first (there's a surprise down there),and go check out this one minute video to understand what xda is all about.
Read tha RuleS
You know the rules, and so do I
Welcome to XDA
you can use the report button, it's not snitching, it's asking for help
how to properly name and write a post
Your "career" as XDA forum user
The rest of the link are here
Now that I got your attention with the surprise thing, keep reading. I perfectly know that you will click on the first link and read half of it, because those are really long reads, but trust me it's worth it in the end. I'll make a summary of what you absolutely need to know before doing anything:
1-Questions about iPhones belongs here, xda has to keep the forum organised, every sections has a title that needs to be respected, for example "Android Q'n'A" is for Q'n'A related to ANDROID, do not post pictures of di.. I mean dogs, or questions about iPhones or about your Roomba not working. This is the most common problem with newbies on XDA. If you post properly, you won't get bashed by experimented users.
2-Press that frickin thank button
each time someone helps you, it's very important (you can give 8 thanks per day)unlimited now
3-Don't discuss anything else than android, in android forums. This means NO POLITICAL DISCUTION
3bis-You can't sell anything on XDA, and for paid software, there are strict rules before promoting them on XDA. Read THIS
4-You need at least to read the rules, I know this isn't funny and stuff, but you have to. And follow the rules! Otherwise you'll feel how hard the ban hammer in the hands of a powerful user (@T.C.Stockdale, @coal686, @xanthrax, and much more fearless hammer wielders)
5-You can't change your username once you chose it, so choose wisely (also you can ask @MikeChannon through PMs to change it, so please stop asking)
6-Be nice, even if some users are kinda bashing you because you're a n00b, and don't worry, if you read this you won't be a n00b anymore, but a new user, and I'll have a talk with these users after that (it's the "Quick message for you fellow "old" XDA users" in the title)
7-Enjoy the forums, there's so much to learn here! Although it's android only for the moment, new developers from the iPhone community will come (hopefully) and share content with you, so you can enjoy
Here is the surprise: ?, you deserved it, now you're a little more aware of what you're doing
Now for experimented iPhone users, hello there !You may know already everything I've said above because I guess you're coming from another forum to check if xda is just garbage or if it's great, and since you're experimented, you've had the curiosity to read all of this until there. Well let me tell you things that you'll be interested in. First XDA is kind of an old forum (if you want the full story: part 1, part 2). This interface isn't 2020, in fact it's has been designed and applied in 2015 (not so recently lol). And this forum uses vBulletin right now. So if you know what I'm talking about, it sounds like xda is outdated, but don't worry, it's now time for Xenforo and XDA 2020 interface (check this out). You're the core of the iPhone community, and you know it. As you make mods, find jailbreak exploits and other cool stuff, you allow other users to enjoy for free (most of the time lol) your content. XDA is all about sharing knowledge, content, etc... and has a huge community, so your work will be taken to a whole new dimension since you'll now be able to be directly in touch with a huge part of the community. I'm sure that you had your own favourite forum, but try out xda, it can only better the experience, because if YOU come, other developers will too, and make iPhone and Android Developers cooperate to make, who knows, one of the greatest piece of software ever created. I can't wait to see what is going to come out of this!
Now, a message to all fellow "before iPhone forums" XDA users:If you're really old, you may remember this video, I got a flashback when seeing this forum opened lol.
This is crazy, I'd never have thought XDA would open iPhone forums, yet they did.
I use both Android and iOS, and to be honest, I've tried iOS, and it's way less "featureful" than Android, the design language is appealing, but having a phone with which you can't even access internal storage is kind of a joke to me.
But each of us have our own opinions, right ?
The thing that'll really change here is the community. I think that the Portal team and XDA admins thought this decision through for a long time. Because since XDA is well known around tech enthusiasts (Android or Apple), Apple enthusiasts will eventually popularize XDA among the more unexperimented iOS users seeking for a way to have [MOD INFINITE VBUCKS FORTNITE LEGIT 1000% WORKING read the description], and that's what I wanted to talk about.
More seriously, it'll bring some of the very experimented users that will eventually provide this forum with very useful guides and Mods, but it will also bring A LOT of newbies. XDA was also known in the past for n00b bashing Android beginners, and now it's the Apple ones...
I know that sometimes it's hard to hear the same questions over and over again and not being infuriated and upset, but I'll ask you, please, to don't bash the crap out of iPhone newbies, if they become developers who knows how they'll improve our experience with maybe cross-plateform development. I know what I say isn't something that you didn't heard before, but please be patient with them, I mean they're not so weak that they're scared by the first critic that hits them, but if we can keep this clean and have a good relationship with them, maybe our two communities will finally end this war that has lasted for eons before us.
Well thank you for reading this until the end, you're very brave. My teachers always said I couldn't be concise when saying something, well they were damn right. Hope you have a good day.
Edit #1: Typos, a lot of them !
Edit #2: Updating color for dark mode user of XDA 2021, the look changed, the rules are the same !
Edit #3: Removing cringy poll
Edit #4: Updating some link here and there

Thank you for mentioning me with these other two great guys. I prefer not to use the ban hammer; the carrot is better than the stick.
Welcome iPhone users! We hope we can get some good iPhone discussion and development going on here. :good:
On behalf of the portal team and the wider leadership team behind XDA as a whole, thanks for this message! It sums up everything really well and we're excited to see how these iPhone forums go.
If anyone has questions about the iPhone 12, feel free to ask (I am using one right now)!
I am now using the iPhone 12 pro max as my main phone and something said go check out xda. Glad to know there’s somewhat of an iphone section. I’m sure I’m not the only one that realized there’s an iPhone developers site but it’s dead.
