[q] Best wifi "prioritizer" - General Questions and Answers

I feel like I've tried many apps and can't find what I'm looking for.
I live on campus and in my room I don't get the schools wifi very good in my room so I have my own network. When I go to class ( and am out of range of my room network) I'd like it to connect to the schools wifi. However, it seems like it always wants to connect to the schools network and the schools network only -- unless I manually connect to my room network.
Are there any apps that can put my home network above the schools?
Thanks

WiFi Internet connection scanner

Anyone found/got an app that scans for open WiFi networks? I don't mean ones that find networks unprotected by WPA or WEP - I mean search for networks that when connected to, actually provide an open connection to the internet...
I'd love to see one too. I'm too lazy to test all "open" networks everytime I'm in a foreign city. Wandering around looking like i'm searching for more beer to chug down.
Found one, but not free

issue: switching between access points in the same wifi network

i'm dealing with this weird issue,
i have set up a wifi network in my home consisting of a router and a repeater, and they have now eliminated the dead spots in my home.
I tested whether mobile devices can switch to the nearest access point when they are moved, while they are connected to the wifi network
laptops switched to the nearest access points as they were moved
unfortunately my arc was not able to...it depended on the same access point as it moved away, even if i keep it next to the repeater it would not pick it's signal.
this would happen the other way around as well if i connect via repeater and bring the phone near the router it would not pick router's signal
any work-a-rounds
HELP!!
Also running doom kernel i had to flash the wifi modules could this have affected in anyway
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
I know this post is a bit old...but a good solution for this issue is Best Wifi:
Description
Do you have a WiFi extender in your home or office, or even a second WiFi Access Point Name (APN)? You do? Then ‘Best WiFi’ is for you!
‘Best WiFi’ is a lightweight application that automatically switches between saved APNs based on their signal strengths. So if while you are pacing in the office or walking around at home, and the signal strength drops below the pre-set level, ‘Best WiFi’ will go through your saved APNs and automatically connect to the one with the best signal at the time.

This app works well to switch between different saved SSIDs that are listed in Android and has eliminated the issue of losing connectivity on my home network due to my phone staying connected to a weak signal and losing its ip address/not surfing.
Thank you
Same problem here, but this app does not do make any difference
Useful app, you deserve a "thank you"

[Q] WiFi tethering bridge to existing access point

Hi there,
At my girlfriend's house there's an existing WiFi access point for their home network and they also have a bunch of computers wired in with ethernet cable. Mobile reception in the house is terrible but I've found one spot by a window where I can sustain a pretty decent dc-hsdpa link. I'm able to tether my laptop to my phone, the phone creates a new WiFi network ap and my laptop connects to that. That works fine.
The thing is, what I'd really like to do, is to have access to the dc-hsdpa connection from some of the wired computers on her home network. To do that I want to have my phone bridge the house network - via their existing WiFi ap - to the mobile internet connection. I'd like the phone to provide a gateway on the house network that could be manually used from the other computers. (I want to avoid using DHCP or anything as it will disrupt the network for other users.)
I know this is technically possible but I'm struggling to find an application that allows for this functionality. I've spent a good amount of time searching around the internet but to no avail. Does anyone know where I can look or of a suitable application? (My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 flashed to run a rooted variant of the play edition KitKat rom.) I'm happy to pay money.
Cheers, Dave.

VPN not connecting on open wifi

This isn't really a problem with my S6, but I wasn't sure where else to ask so hope someone can help!
My work and university both have open wifi networks that I can use to access the internet with my phone. Whenever I connect to an open network I use a VPN for security (TorGuard) but for some reason I can't connect the VPN to either networks. It works fine when I'm on 4G or my home wifi, so think it is something to do with the open networks at work and university.
Any idea what is wrong and how I can get it going? If it isn't doable, are there any other ways I should secure my phone when connecting to an open network?
Many thanks

Can't see certain wifi networks

I just got this watch today and I'm unable to see certain wifi networks, particularly my campus wifi. I am able to connect to my cell phone's hotspot but that uses up my data plan very quickly. I downloaded this wifi manager app that lets me see my campus wifi but still doesn't connect to it.
Is there anything else that I can do to connect to my campus wifi?
Alternatively, can I get internet through bluetooth if my cell phone is connected to wifi? Is there a setting for this?
Thanks
Seems this watch is not supporting 5G network. You may check if your campus has 5G and 2.4G supported.
